  1. The best thing Beck could do to get Reed and Cotton more involved is switch them around in his head. Last year, despite injury, Beck called Reed's number more to seal the end on an Option than to catch the ball downfield. That is a HUGE mistake, and Reed routinely failed at making his (often crucial) block. That's not a knock on Kyler Reed, it's just that he's not built for that type of play. But Cotton is. Despite this, you'd see Cotton downfield in two TE sets as a decoy for the run that went to Reed's side of the field - and the play would get blown up. Cotton never blocked anyone and was wasted on the play. Reed failed in his block, and often his man made or was involved in the tackle. I have been rewatching the 2011 season, and I pull my hair out over and over watching our line play. Our blocking schemes are ridiculous. You want to get these guys more involved? Find out if they're a square peg or a round peg, and fit them in accordingly. That's Step One.
  2. The Catalyst Project at 13th & Q, 10 stories, is going up right now. EDIT - actually, the East Stadium upgrade will be eight-ish stories, equal to the West Stadium. Those would both be on that list.
  3. Bingo. As with Tebow, I do not care for Rush. The ONLY way I hear about Rush is through message board posts, or if I happen to see a headline describing yet another foot-in-mouth situation. I don't like Rush so I don't consume his shows. Pretty simple solution.
  4. agreed. i dont get the praise everyone seems to give C Green, guy has said some bad things about NU and he has been trying to get multiple players to transfer. just doesnt make any sense. Look at the people who have nothing but praise for Cody. They're typically the same people for whom Bo is most often painted in a bad light, and for whom the memory of Bill Callahan is still quite fond. We have a sect of Husker fans who just love being contrarian.
  5. So, 6pm, Brewsky's at 27th & Cornhusker. That's final, yes? Minnesota, if you have to work the Creighton game, you can stop in for one beer at 6:00. We'll be nice and send you on your way after just one - no bar stands or tequila shots.
  6. Believe me, it was implied. I agree with the sentiment of your post. It's absurd that we can't have taller towers in Lincoln. I don't know that it's hampering growth much, but it's not helping. The State Capitol building is swell. But it's not so end-all, be-all important that we have to maintain it as the dominant architectural structure in the skyline. I think it's an absurd law. Maybe it'll change in a few decades, when some of the blue-hairs die off.
  7. It's a line in the sand that doesn't need to be drawn. Sure, in some way I'm sure Tebow would like everyone to practice the faith he believes is the "correct" one, in much the same way that HuskerBoard members kid guys like fro daddy and Bucky about becoming Husker fans. Tebow isn't forcing you to choose his religion - heck, he's not even actively trying to convert you. He's just stating his beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that. I've just never understood the problem people have with this. I don't particularly care for Tim Tebow. My solution? I don't waste time ragging on the guy or getting upset about how he expresses himself, I just tune him out. I don't watch him on TV, I don't read articles about him, and I don't (typically) engage in discussions about him. My life is much the better for it. If more people tried that, the hype surrounding Tebow would die down. You guys getting all riled up about him help perpetuate the mythos. Turn the channel, stop talking about him on message boards and stop reading articles about him. The media will get the hint.
  8. PICDUMP! Just posted a bunch of pics in the Stadium Expansion thread and some baseball pics in the Huskers vs. Hawkeyes thread.

  9. As promised/threatened, here are my pics from the game. I have tons more, but all the middle-inning pics are just Hawkeyes all over the bags. And nobody wants to see that. The Huskers ready to take the field. Prepping for the National Anthem. Josh Scheffert rounding third after his leadoff homer in the second inning. Zach Hirsch ready to deal. Cory Burleson hit by a pitch. The ball is midway between his elbow and shoulder. Pop Quiz - Darin Erstad 1) DOES 2) DOES NOT agree with the call after an apparent pickoff at 1B was ruled safe by the umpire. The Huskers make one of their four calls to the bullpen after Iowa scores. Again. Kash Kalkowski about to smash one of three straight singles in the ninth to build the rally. The ball pops off Kale Kiser's bat for the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth. AND THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING!!!
  10. Took a bunch of pics over the weekend, but this is the first time I've had to post them. Enjoy! Your standard shot from the East. A couple of shots from the SE near Avery Hall. From Ed Weir track. Not a lot of progress on this side for a while. From the plans, I believe this is the final height of the most forward part of the structure. The veranda will be atop this, then there will be the skybox structure above that, another four/five stories high. I took this to once again show how closely the structure will wrap into the old East Stadium, with the piers abutting the original structure. I would love to see them leave that original concrete exposed for offices or conference/classrooms. The circle has been completed on the north side, and they're reaching higher now, with the next tier going up as quickly as the first levels. An expanded shot of the area. The parking lot in the foreground is going to be the new public space called "The Yard" with the video cube and plaza surrounded by shops. CLICK THE PIC FOR LARGER This is a closeup of the graphic visible on the sign in the foreground of the previous picture, showing the future development surrounding the Arena. This is a major facelift for an already cool part of town. I am very excited for this project. Lincoln life will improve tremendously when this is finished. The outer section is beginning to take shape, as the inner bowl has been largely completed. Finally, a shot of the Arena from high atop Haymarket Park.
  11. Rich Kaipust is reporting that Cooper will leave Nebraska. LINK
  12. City of Lincoln zoning rules prohibit any building taller than the State Capitol building. The tallest buildings you see in Lincoln are as high as they are allowed to build.
  13. "Funny." This same picture could be used to ascribe the liberal mentality when pondering any idea originating from the center or right. Or the Conservative mentality when pondering an idea from the center or left. Works all ways, for all things, all positions, depending on your point of view.
  14. Can you order four runs a little earlier in the game next time? Not that the win wasn't exciting, but I could have done with a little less excitement today. I took just under 200 pictures of this game. I'll post the most fun in a little while, including the game-winning hit popping off the bat of Kiser in the bottom of the 9th.
  15. Still need to finalize a place and time. Anyone have any objection to Brewsky's at 27th & Cornhusker, 6pm?
  16. I bought 10 as well. I love the spring game atmosphere and it is really nice for those we little ones (I have a 5 and 2 year old) that want to take thier kids to a game, but not fork out too much dough. Mainly in case they get antsy and want to bail at halftime, the price is right for a situation like that. Can't wait to head down next week....and if it's nice, I'm gonna be cooking some Q. Anyone is welcome to come find Hot Grill on Grill Action and eat some grub! you tell me where to be and ill be there! I'd love to know where you're going to be.
  17. For reference's sake, Volleyball was the only sport that had its own forum for a long time, based on the fact that they have a huge following and they actually win something from time to time.
  18. I think it's bigger, too. That may be a good idea. Also, if that area is an option, I highly recommend Spikes, maybe three blocks NW of 27th & Cornhusker. Very good burgers. Lots of space.
  19. Again, I'm talking about adding four total forums, three if you axe Rumorville. That is not "way too many" and it is in no way "unwieldy."
  20. Huh? Based on what criteria? My proposal would add four (4) total forums. I don't think that's "way too many."
  21. My perfect world: SPORTS Husker Football Football Recruiting --2007 Signees --2008 Signees --2009 Signees --2010 Signees --etc (continue on in perpetuity, maybe archive older recruit forums) Husker Volleyball Husker Basketball --Men's Basketball --Women's Basketball Husker Baseball Other Husker Sports (Softball, Swim, Track, Wrestling, etc) The Big Ten Rumorville (I see a need for this - anyone else?) Other Sports OTHER STUFF (All other subforums would remain the same from here down)
  22. OK, so if it's going to be crazy there/then, should we move it to another Brewsky's? Go earlier? I don't go to bars much, so help me out on the logistics of this thing.
  23. I found video of the accident. As if burritos weren't dangerous enough!
  24. If any sport is going to get its own forum, it's going to be one that has won a few championships - Volleyball. Volleyball >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Basketball (M or W) But seriously - I agree. I don't get to make the forums, though. This is a "suggestion box" topic, so I'm going to move this to the Board Feedback forum so it gets some notice.
