  1. Nice first post. If you're here to troll, don't get comfortable. You won't be here long.
  2. I'm as settled in with the Big Ten as I can be. Shockingly settled in. I didn't anticipate feeling so at home so quickly, but it's been like moving to a new town and discovering your neighborhood is full of Nebraskans. Sure it's different, but much of it is the same. The Big Ten feels like my favorite old sweatshirt I forgot, only to dig it out of the back of the closet and find out the fit is just like the old days. I just never felt any "magic" playing Iowa State or Missouri. They were like gnats, games you had to get through to get to the real prize at the end of the season, the Oklahoma game and the Bowl. Everything before that was just going through the motions. It was more an exercise of watching every guy on the roster play than anticipating a great game all week. Really, how juiced were people for Kansas most years? Or for Iowa State, or Missouri? To me, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Iowa easily trump those games. It's not even a question. I'm as stodgy and conservative as most Nebraskans, but when it comes to football enjoyment, the Big Ten is without question more fun than the Big XII.
  3. swmckewonOWH Samuel McKewon Gary Pinkel arrested for DWI last night. Disappointing move from a coach whose team has struggled with DWIs in recent years. KOMUnews KOMU News Boone County Sheriff's Department confirms MU football coach Gary Pinkel was arrested last night for DWI. Gary Pinkel Arrested for DWI COLUMBIA - KOMU 8 has confirmed Boone County sheriff deputies arrested MU football coach Gary Pinkel Wednesday night for DWI. Pinkel posted a $500 bond and was released from the Boone County Jail. Deputies pulled Pinkel over for lane and signal violations on Keene Street near Broadway around 10 p.m. The sheriff's department said this is Pinkel's first offense, and deputies said he was cooperative. Chief Deputy Tom Reddin said Pinkel's name did not appear on the Boone County Sheriff's Department 0700 report due to a computer glitch.
  4. So you're a huge fan of Bo's, right? After all, his November record is 11-3.
  5. I think it's important, as we move forward in our new conference, to remember where we came from, and why. I'm seeing some angst over our new conference and some pining for the old days, from Husker fans and fans of other teams. In the past several years there have been some excellent articles written on the formation of the Big XII, the dissolution of the SWC, and conference realignment in general. Some of these articles are no longer available online, so I've made the decision to repost them in their entirety in an effort to archive events that should not be forgotten. First, an article from The Mercury, a Kansas paper: Next up, an article from the San-Antonio Express News, showing the perspective of the "forgotten" schools from the SWC:

  7. I don't. I'm not going to go so far as to call him a troll (if I thought he was trolling, I would have just banned him, not warned him), but his "wise ass" schtick in Every. Single. Thread. is driving people away from this forum.
  8. Didn't we have a "We suck at recruiting" thread almost daily last year, too? Weren't the same concerns being levied last year - no marquee players, not enough recruits overall, starting too slow, coaches are ignoring recruits, etc? How did last year's class turn out again? Anyone like having guys like Jamal Turner, Aaron Green, Ameer Abdullah, etc on the team?
  9. I don't think I mentioned the terms of use. So why are you threatening me? Because your schtick is wearing thin. With many people.
  10. Really? That's just sad. You feel sad about who and what some other person likes or dislikes? Sad? I felt sad when I heard about the scandal at PSU. Someone takes a shot at the White House? Sad...and angry. JR20 likes Hannity? That doesn't make me happy or sad. Your schtick is wearing thin. Remember that membership is a privilege, not a right.
  11. He's offering you a gift, so you have to take the gift he's offering. It is bad manners to tell him you don't want the gift he wants to give you. It's a gift - it's not a choice. He is not a source for MW3 for you, at least not in this scenario. In this scenario he's either a person giving you a watch or a person from whom you decline the watch. The game never enters this conversation. Yes, you did. The bold is the right sentiment/mindset here.
  12. So tell me about Rachel Maddow. All I know of her is from appearances on The Daily Show and Colbert. I just figured she was the Liberal version of Ann Coulter. Yes? No?
  13. That is a nice answer but you could read the Huffington post on your Yahoo search. Who is it that you tend to read and get your info from? I think I'm capable of realizing when I'm reading a HuffPo article. Don't sweat it. Like I said, I mostly rely on Reuters and the AP. Various local writers, who of course have their left- and right-leaning slants, and some articles from the BBC. The BBC is actually a really good source of info, but of course they have their biases, too. The worst thing you could do is get your news primarily from one source. It's a great way to end up with a sprained brain.
  14. Those stats aren't >80%. Just saying. However, containing D Rob must be of emphasis. Using David to do so makes sense. You are correct! I threw the numbers into Excel and .88 popped out, and I didn't pay attention to the numbers. Turns out I used 3,475 instead of 2,475. So it's 60%, or a little more. Thanks for catching that. +1 It's right around 63%. Jsayin'... It's 63.025%. And I'm glad we have that all cleared up now.
  15. I think we played some really weak teams that year, and the Big Ten was mediocre, but not bad enough overall to warrant dragging down Michigan's SOS. Doesn't matter. What matters is, if we'd have played them, we'd have steamrolled them. Ask Peyton Manning. There was more talent on one side of that Tennessee team (either offense or defense, your pick) than there was on that whole Michigan roster. Nothing was going to stop that 1997 team from letting Osborne go out a winner. Bottom line is this - 1997 Michigan should be kissing Jim Delaney's hind end from here to China, thanking him for failing to jump on board the BCS (or whatever version it was at the time), because that is the ONLY reason they didn't play Nebraska, and that is the ONLY reason they have their little wall plaque right now.
  16. I think every Husker fan wishes we were farther along in the process of "getting back." But Osborne didn't get us "back" right away, either. Took him a dozen years to vie for his first MNC. Nobody is ready to etch Pelini's name next to Osborne's yet, but the takeaway from this lesson is: Patience.
  17. I get this. I kinda do this, but when I'm saying "root" I mean "pull for" or "hope wins." It's a game-time thing, and ends when the game ends, right? That's how it works for me. I pretty much always have a reason for wanting Team A to win and not Team B when I'm watching a game, and often it's arbitrary or even changes as the game ebbs and flows. In general I root against Boise State, but there have been many times I've watched a game and wanted them to win. But in no way am I a Boise St. fan. At all.
  18. No, not at all. Austin's main problem is not the horrendous negativity. Forums definitely need a balance of opinions - otherwise they'd be extremely boring. His main problem is refusing to dialogue on the strong points that others make contrary to his. To boot, he takes contrary opinions personally to a bizarre and irrational level. Like what? It would have been epic if you would have responded, "YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH ME, MAN!!?!?!?!?!?!" Opportunity lost. C'est la vie.
  19. This is almost perfect, except we like to use the word "derp." Throw that in this paragraph somewhere and you've finally got it.
  20. Really? That's just sad. Who do you like? D - None of the Above Like I said, I don't watch these talking heads on TV, any of them. I get 99% of my news from print/web journalism. I have RSS feeds set up and I also cruise the headlines at Yahoo and CNN, but I rarely read CNN's articles - hate the spin/slant.
