  1. It is a felony to leave the scene of an injury accident. She has already been charged and will be arraigned today. It sounds like she just had an "OH SH1T!" moment, and she drove off. She stopped because her tire was shredded, and presumably at that point calmed down and called the police. About a month ago I rear-ended a guy. The light was red, we were both turning right, he went through the intersection and I looked left to see if there were any oncoming cars or pedestrians. There weren't, so I went, and BAM! I nailed the guy, because as he was 3/4 of the way through the intersection, the "No Right on Red" sign came on (he said), and even though there were no pedestrians or oncoming cars, he stopped, nearly all the way into the cross street. Whatever, it was my fault. We got out, checked damage, and since there was none, we shook over it and went our separate ways. But my adrenaline was still sky-high, and I could have chewed concrete I was so mad. I'm sure he was jacked up, too. You don't get in an accident every day, and you never know how you're going to react until it happens. I really, really wish she would have reacted differently. But it is what it is.
  2. Lauren is in school, went to weights this AM, and she's OK. Cook hasn't talked to her today. He's talking about how this can be a lesson for a kid who is one minute on top of the world, being the #1 team in the nation, and suddenly you lose a game and something like this happens, and it's shocking. And that wraps up the presser. Nothing about the case, and I wouldn't have expected it.
  3. Cook not talking about the Lauren situation at the presser. Makes sense. It's less than 24 hours after the accident, so I'd have been shocked if he had.
  4. Yes, she did turn herself in, and she initiated contact with the police. Unfortunately she still left the scene of the accident. As is normal in a case like this I suspect the charges will be pled down to something less than a felony. I think her prior tickets won't weigh in her favor, but without other criminal wrongs I don't think she's going to have to take the full rap.
  5. For a well-meaning thread, there's a lot of angst in here! And we've just won three in a row, two of which were against traditional Big Ten powerhouses. Let's everyone enjoy the wins, OK fellas?
  6. Who knows. She had a bad moment, I'm sure.
  7. Let's wait and see what Root can do. It wouldn't have surprised me to lose a couple of matches on the remaining schedule with Cook at the helm. We have a TOUGH schedule. We play at Purdue, then turn around and play Minnesota at home in four days. We also still have Michigan State, but it's at the Coliseum, so that should help. Luckily we don't play @ Illinois this year - we got a break getting them just once, at home.
  8. -If- she is suspended for the rest of the season (including post-season) we'll be lucky to win 2 matches in the NCAAs. Root is that bad? I don't think so.
  9. The article doesn't say how badly the motorcyclist was injured. That's a 45 zone, but most folks zip through there pretty quickly. I really, really hope they're OK. That's a scary accident with major injury potential. As for Lauren..... Wow. That is a serious lapse of judgment. I doubt seriously she can play the rest of this season. I don't see how you don't suspend her. Bridgett Root will take over at Setter for Cook. Root is no slouch. She is not as good as Cook, but she isn't chopped liver. We'll be OK, but unless the hitters gel with Root quickly we're out of national championship contention.
  10. Awww, ain't that sweet. Wish I could say the love was reciprocated, but folks in the Panhandle don't have much use for you city slickers back east. :) Now if we could just get that silly Constitution thingy out of the way, our brethern trapped in Nebraska could join up with us in the promised land here in Wyoming, long as state laws were redone to state that anyone born in that part of New Wyoming had to, by law, be a Husk fan. Check the batteries on your sarcasm detector there, WYHusk.
  11. We could end up as the highest-ranked Big Ten team at the end of the season. If we lose one of NW/PSU/Michigan/Iowa, we may be out of the Big Ten Championship. If lost to Penn State, but beat Michigan and Iowa, we'd rise up to around 12-13. Loser of the Big Ten Championship likely drops below us, meaning only one other B1G team ranked higher than us. If that team loses their bowl game, and we win ours, it's conceivable that we finish with the best ranking. It's an academic thought, though. Finishing the season as the highest-ranked team in our conference isn't our goal.
  12. I would hope Big 10 fans would realize this too. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is not only a Nebraska tradition...its a College Football Tradition. Now that this games is going to be played VERY RARELY, you take advantage of it whenever you can. Who cares if it disrupts the Rose Bowl and the B1G vs Pac 12 tradition. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is bigger and more important than that. The Rose Bowl could hypothetically play B1G vs Pac 12 every year for the next 100+ years. Nebraska vs Oklahoma might happen 2-3 times the next 100 years. You play NU vs OU in the Rose Bowl. For most people Nebraska-Oklahoma doesn't even register as a rivalry. http://espn.go.com/s...Id=1&listId=311 just one example. Sorry, add it to your OCS. Don't change our tradition. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/26676228 I would imagine the online demographic that responded to that ESPN link predominantly represent the younger football crowd, not the folks who grew up in the 70s, 80s & 90s watching Nebraska/Oklahoma for all the marbles. Ohio State has The Game with Michigan. If they stopped playing that game this year, how long would it be before EVERYONE stopped caring about it? It would take decades. I didn't even grow up a Big Ten fan and I watched Michigan/Ohio State pretty much every year.
  13. Doesn't the panhandle secessionist movement crop up every decade or so? I think it's come up several times. We'd never let the panhandle go, though. We loooooove you guys.
  14. Thanks, Slack! I had the opportunity to meet several Spartan fans and every one was fun and friendly. Everyone, every single one, told us all about how we were going to hate Michigan, too. It was pretty funny. Thanks for coming to Lincoln. It's great to hear that you were treated well. You are welcome any time, both in Lincoln and here at HuskerBoard.
  15. I would contact either the University or the Bo Pelini Foundation. Those are your two best bets. I believe they were being worn for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Like too many people, I have a significant vested interest in this. Post here if you find anything out.
  16. I pushed for this to be our big "rivalry" game this summer but nobody would listen to me. I called it "The Game For The Name," and I had a trophy idea (large silver "NU" on a wooden podium base, with engraved plaques indicating who won the game and got to use the name for the year). Everyone pointed and laughed. There were some rotten tomatoes thrown. It got ugly. I may have pouted. C'est la vie.
  17. Why would we call them NEB? Their initials are NW. We are NU. We've been NU forever, and I'm a stodgy old codger and I'm not changing. If they don't like it that's too bad. I'm not changing. Harrumph.
  18. I don't get the Arkansas thing, either. Lots of people have been high on them all year and they have played a decent but not great schedule, and they haven't been dominant AT ALL. They have played a weaker schedule than we have, but they're ranked higher in the BCS. SEC bias? I don't know how you explain that. I think we would beat Arkansas on a neutral field. I think Oregon would crush Arkansas on a neutral field.
  19. There are a few people in my row in Sec. 31 that are doing it too. Even in the rain. I can't get my shoes off easy enough or I'd do it. It's harmless good fun.
  20. You could see the knee crack his head on the replay. We're getting thin at DB. With a passing QB coming up, Andrew Green is going to have to go the whole way and have another great game like he did Saturday. If he hadn't had that game against Michigan State, I'd be much more worried about Green with Evans hurt. But the way he played Saturday was inspiring. It's clear he can do it. He just has to do it again. And it's not even clear that Evans will miss any time. And we may have SJB back for NW anyway. One thing is clear - no matter what happens, we'll have UnoLockdownCinco taking away one side of the field.
  21. You could tell BK was talking some smack... the next play, I saw him shaking his head at one of the MSU secondary players (don't think it was Dennard again but it might've been) and the ref came over there to tell him to tone it down. Yep, I just watched this sequence about an hour ago on DVR. BK had some terms of endearment for the secondary after that little love-tap Dennard the Younger threw at him. Darqueze is lucky he didn't connect - punching a guy in the helmet is usually a pretty good way to bash up your hands pretty good. Fonzie threw a couple of haymakers Saturday, too. Only thing was, they were at the football, and he knocked it ten yards away from the WR. Fonzie was in pure BEAST MODE. It was great to see him back to form.
