  1. Holy Moly! I just figured it out! SOCAL is Tom Osborne! It all makes sense now - same birthday, they're both Husker fans.... it's so obvious! And you never see these two guys in the same room at the same time. Think about it.
  2. Sipple made an interesting observation about Beck's interview last night: LINK I like to hear this. While it makes me a little nervous to think that we may start 2011 with yet another first-year starter, the bottom line is we HAVE TO put the best guy out there. Nobody is handing Martinez the job at this point, and that's great. He'll have to earn it again, and (apparently) leadership in the huddle/locker room is going to factor into that. I understand that Martinez may be naturally shy, and there's no harm in that. But if the job description of the starting QB at Nebraska includes having the respect of your teammates and being a leader on the field and in the locker room, then that's what you're going to have to be. Talent only gets you so far. We saw what happened last year when talent got thrown out the window due to injuries. The huddle collapsed, and confidence and productivity went along with it. You just cannot have that.
  3. While we're picking nits, it's "nit," not "knit." Nits are little critters that people used to pick off of each other. You see monkeys doing it on NatGeo all the time. They're tiny and a problem easily overlooked, which is why "nitpicking" refers to correcting minutiae that probably doesn't need to be corrected.
  4. I have a sneaking suspicion Beck will get the Fullback in the game a little more often. The kinds of defenses we'll face in the B1G may dictate that need.
  5. Certainly. I do wish him the best, and this is more of an empathetic post than a gloating post. Kid made a decision he felt was best for him and his family, and it's going to turn out poorly. I can't feel good about that.
  6. Lighten up, Francis! - no name calling... If you have an issue, use the reporting feature. You've been griping a lot lately. Don't gripe about things in the forums - that's what Board Feedback and the reporting mechanism are for. And....
  7. Please do not engage in personal attacks. If you don't like the content of the post, argue the point. If you think someone is being a "dick," report it via the "report" button on the bottom left of the post. There's no reason to call each other names.
  8. Here's hoping for many, many more fruitful years, Dr. Tom.
  9. Agreed. We'll definitely be competitive. Bo's defenses should keep us in games for the most part, and if Beck's offense can move the ball at all, we should have a chance to win every game. From there it'll boil down to coaching, individual efforts and the way the ball bounces. But I'm not looking at anyone in this conference and thinking, "We can't compete with these guys." That's a far cry from how I felt about the Big XII as recently as 2008.
  10. Alex Henery > LaVonte David > Terrelle Pryor Since we're comparing such disparate positions, I thought I'd throw that in there.
  11. You can just add this to your sig so you don't have to continually post it you know... I noticed that, too. Every single discussion about Bubba basically starts with, "I know he's not coming, but for argument's sake..." Discussion about Bubba is arguendo and should be treated as such. Bubba is going to play baseball. Everyone here with a pulse knows this. Until that actually happens, we're not going to ignore his presence.
  12. Is he going to make it to campus? I hope so. He'll help a ton with depth if nothing else.
  13. If he starts the first game his freshman year - yup, I'd ask those questions - and hopefully they'd be answered by his performances (which Martinez answered in the early part of the year). But neither GMoose nor myself said anything about starting. If he starts down the road, then he earned it. I just don't see how you relate him coming to Nebraska with Bo promising him a start. If he comes I am going to give Bo and Starling both the benefit of the doubt and say he's coming with the intention of earning the starting QB spot. Maybe you aren't. What you are saying is basically if starling enrolls on 8/15, he MUST be the starting QB because there is no other reason why he'd leave MLB wihtout at least the questioning the possibility of a "promise" and it's myopic to think otherwise. You're reading so much more into this than I ever said. I don't understand the need for all this. Are you just really, really bored?
  14. Tony Pauline from CNN/SI has this take on Prince: Just one more writer's opinion.
  15. Denard Robinson: Pass Efficiency - #20 Rushing - #4 Points Responsible For - #18 (15.08 PPG) Total Offense - #2 (7.82 yards per play) Terrelle Pryor: Pass Efficiency - #10 Rushing - < Top 100 Points Responsible For - #21 (14.78 PPG) Total Offense - #25 (7.70 yards per play) Kind of a mixed bag.
  16. Carter could play his way into a significant role if he has a high-octane motor. We're just not seeing the push from rush end like we thought with Cam and Ankrah. Ankrah in particular I thought would be an animal last year, but he looked rather pedestrian to me. Unless Ankrah steps it up big-time, he's going to be the odd man out with EMart moving over to rush end, too.
  17. I would agree with this. For the sake of argument let's pretend Bubba comes to school to play ball. The only way these two both see the field this year is if one starts at QB (likely Starling) and the other starts at WR (likely Turner, because he'd make a better WR than Starling). Also, presuming Starling comes to play football, Starling and Turner will not both be quarterbacks. That would give us: Starling - FR Turner - FR Carnes - rFR Green - JR Martinez - SOPH As much talent as Carnes, Turner and Starling have, it wouldn't make sense to let one of them waste their career on the bench, which is what would happen unless we have injuries, and you can't bank on injuries.
  18. Have there been rumors of Bubba's discontent with his position on team? No Has Bubba tried to quit the team? No. Is there anything to make any of us believe Bubba feels he's entitled to the #1 QB spot? No Has Bubba even set foot on campus yet? No I guess I can't see how the two are even comparable. Martinez was in his 2nd year on the team, rumors were flying around, Dad was involved, etc. I think it's BS you are lumping Bubba in there. Why not Turner as well? Or Carnes for that matter? Lighten up, Francis! I didn't ask about Turner or Carnes because there is, as yet, no rumor or obvious impending reason for either not to be on the team. Starling has a pretty legit reason not to be on the team. If he ends up starting, you're saying NOBODY is going to raise the question about what he may have been promised? I think that's pretty myopic.
  19. Isn't this pretty much the same thing people were mad at Martinez for last Summer? The rumor was he quit the team, then suddenly he's back and he's the starter, and the allegation was that Bo promised him the starting gig to get him to come back to the team. Martinez took a lot of flak for that. Wonder how it'll be received if the same thing happens with Starling. The perception was Martinez had been handed the starting spot to stay. I don't think Moose is saying he's going to say "eff it" and walk away if he's not given the starting spot - he's saying you have to assume that if he walks away from MLB to play for Nebraska...he won't be walking away to play WR. IF he gets here, he'll be behind center...whether that is as a starter or bench warmer. I have no problem with Bo guarenteeing Starling a spot at QB...all it means is Bo won't force a move on him. Bo's asking an 18 year old to give up millions and millions of guarentee money...it's not too much to say "yeah, I give you my word you'll be a quarterback" - that might be the first string, or the 5th... So you think Starling would walk away from that multi-million dollar contract to be the fifth-string quarterback? That would be a sight to see. To have a chance at the starting position down the road - yeah. He'd have no chance at it as a WR. Are you saying that if Starling decides to play football for NU then he's been promised the starting position by Bo? No, I'm clearly asking, does Bubba get the same flak Martinez got if Bubba starts this year?

  22. Wonder if Owa is beginning to regret his decision yet? If not, I bet he does soon. LINK to full story.
  23. I would think the fact that nearly half of the people answering this poll are voting against "our guy" would show we're trying to be objective.
  24. Plus, if you don't want bad press from whatever Sanders or Glenn or anyone else did...avoid those problems, don't just choose to not address them. Lol... That's like saying you can stop wars by thinking happy thoughts.... You sure as hell can't stop them by acting like they didn't happen. Agree with all four quoted posts. There isn't a perfect solution. I'd like to know more, but I understand the danger in thinking that my donation entitles me to inside information. But at the same time Carl is right - without us, Nebraska Football is UNO football. The fans are integral to the survival of this program.
