  1. This was more cathartic for Mr. Knowlton than a letter actually intended for Bo. That's my take, anyway.
  2. Message boards can be a place to start a search, or develop a story idea, kind of like Wikipedia is a place to start research on a project, which you then back up with information from a reputable source. If I were a sports journalist I'd be cruising threads on these forums daily.
  3. You'd think if he was out of town - they would have simply said he was out of town as the reason for the teleconference. Yet another gaffe by the Nebraska PR world. The fact we are still wondering a week later is...well..Nebraska for ya. Depends why he was out of town. Remember there may be a pending issue pertaining to the (now former) staff. There aren't a lot of reasons I can logically think of why Bo would choose to skip the LOI presser, and that's one of them. Complete speculation on my part, though. Zero foundation.
  4. Yep. People forget how unknown guys like Papuchis, Ekeler and Dobson were around here. Today they're household names and everyone's on board with them, but back in the day there were several threads airing concerns over these guys. Some could argue how well the Ekeler hire turned out but that is for a different day. Els is not new to the coaching game. He has been around for 27 years. That is a far cry from bringing up Ekeler and Pap when Bo took the job. I have no problem with giving Garrison a FT gig. But once again hiring him to his first position coach gig is not the same as bringing in Els after 27 years of coaching. How could Husker fans not know who John Garrison is? Odd IMO. I also think including the Strength and Conditioning Coach hire in the list of unproven people hired by Bo is strange. Besides Boyd Epply can anyone name some proven Strength and Conditioning guy? I'm sure that's all very interesting, but it doesn't obviate the fact that people very openly questioned Bo's hires when he assembled his staff, much like they're doing now. Today, as then, a more prudent way of looking at things would be to let them fail before griping about the hires. Of course, if you know more than Bo then by all means please gripe. The angst is entertaining.
  5. I will double-dog guarantee you that the writers from LJS, OWH, ESPN, CBS, etc look at message boards for material. The larger organizations probably have interns do the trolling, but what we say here and on HuskerMax and HI and other forums gets read, and it ends up coloring some of the articles.
  6. Do we even know if Bo was in Lincoln on LOI day? I'm guessing he was out of state dealing with hiring/recruiting/other issues.
  7. You could be right, but then what's the theory on why we either struck out with so many candidates or never contacted anyone with Beck in mind all along? Is Beck that good? Is Bo just comfortable with him? Did we approach several others and get rejected? That I do not know, and nobody's providing names of candidates.
  8. That I do not know. I would hope Carl is up to speed enough to allow Bo to spend equal time throughout. As a defensive guru the thought is that Bo would know how to dissect an offense - and what an offense can do to put heavy pressure on a defense. It depends on Beck's ability to run the show. It would be nice to have some kind of hint at the Spring Game, but that's highly unlikely. More likely we won't see the fruits of this move until October.
  9. So we're going to find out if Bo is Warren Buffet or some schmoe local banker. I'm hoping we hired him because he's more Warren than schmoe. We'll see.
  10. Yep. People forget how unknown guys like Papuchis, Ekeler and Dobson were around here. Today they're household names and everyone's on board with them, but back in the day there were several threads airing concerns over these guys.
  11. We finished 39th in Scoring Offense and 44th in Total Offense. I suppose instead of 10 wins you could say we won 71% of our games (or lost 29% depending on how you look at it), but as you said, the point is the NU offense was a disaster.
  12. He's had a standing offer for sometime. . he just hasn't chosen to accept it. Gilmore was the one who we were waiting on as he's the one who stepped away more or less on his terms. I can only pray Cotton is afforded the same opportunity in the near future, but alas I'm going to assume he'll end up with the RC duties and that will probably prolong his stay on the sidelines. And in all honesty. .. that might be an excellent place for him because he's very very very excellent on the administrative side of things. Exactly, which is why he's been applying for every HC job in the past two years. He could have walked any time he wanted, and he knew that full well. He chose to stay in 2010, and I don't blame him - we all got bills to pay. But his effort was lackluster at best. We have played softball with Watson to a fault. He should have been fired after the CCG, and nobody in the country would have blamed us. But we played nice and let him stay.... and he couldn't find a gig. So after two seasons of wide open doors and offers to help pack, we finally had to give him a knee in the backside. It's too bad, but it was inevitable.
  13. In the 47 seconds that article was up I already had a report on it. We simply cannot copypasta an entire article, especially from the Old Weird Harold. They are watching forums and have already contacted us about content taken from their site. Nobody wants to be a netcop. But nobody wants HuskerBoard sued, either. Personally, I don't link to their articles at all anymore. If they want to play hardball (which right I support, mind you), then there's no reason to give them free advertising on HuskerBoard. Nothing they write about can't be found somewhere else, either at the LJS, Sam McKewon, Eric Olson or some other source. I'd rather link to the Albuquerque Picayune than the OWH.
  14. The best case scenario would have been for Watson to convince someone to hire him as a head coach somewhere. His tenure at Nebraska being less than impressive, especially when you consider the lack of development of players he's coached and the glaring problems his offenses have evinced, made that impossible. The alternative we were left with was terminating him, which is (apparently) what we've done. As with Solich in 2003, terminating a coach with a winning record makes it difficult to convince another guy to come here. The thought being, if they're firing a guy whose offense led to ten wins, what are they going to do with me if I get eight wins? That limited our options right there. If Watson leaves for a promotion we're in a lot better position to hire. Watson's failure to secure a gig hampered our efforts quite a bit.
  15. Done. No problem. You can edit your own posts, though. Just click the edit button, then Use Full Editor.
  16. All done! The HuskerBoard Starting Lineup - 2011 has finished. Thanks to everyone who participated. Hope you had a good time.
  17. Congratulations, girlknowsfootball! You're our new Equipment Manager!
  18. Congratulations, Minnesota_husker! You're the new Towel Boy!
  19. Agreed. Good post, Hujan. I will say this, though - this blog, errant though it is, does show that this is not a dead issue "out there." There are things which may happen in the future which may make this crop up again, and in an ugly light for Nebraska. It doesn't matter how flawed this blog is, this situation could definitely have been handled better on our end. Let's hope it blows over. I would never be more happy to be wrong about this. But we cannot ignore the potential for damage in future recruiting.
  20. NEVER! It would be years before he could recruit enough wr's to help! If he comes, which is doubtful!! LIAR!!! Just wait, it will all be over soon! YOU WON'T TAKE MY FROST FROM ME!!!! NOBODY WILL!!!! guess who was right, hint not you!! I think someone needs to check the batteries on their Sarcasm Detector.
  21. HuskerBoard has been locking redundant threads since before you joined, you know. 23 out of 40 threads in the front page of Husker Football are talking about coaching changes. How many do we need before you think we're not censoring people?
  22. Nobody thinks Akita is lying. It's the redundancy of the threads, pure and simple. If I really had it in for the guy, I would have locked THIS THREAD, too. Instead, I cleaned up the misspellings in the headline and some of the more egregious spelling errors in the text for him. Not exactly the kind of thing a jerky Mod would do, huh? not mad at you. here is your exact qoute. " You got slammed because you started a thread magino was in lincoln interviewing. When there was a thread already saying the same thing. nobody slammed you because you said watson was gone. everybody thought the ccg was the final nail in watsons coffin." Okay why did source in my 3rd or 4th sentence get slammed. And tell me in my thread where I said Magino was in lincoln interviewing??. Thats it not mad, just tell me where I said that and thats why I got slammed. I dont need a cookie or 15 minutes of fame.Trust me been there done that. Also sorry for my typing I barely graduated highschool and not trying to be a smart ass I really am not that educated.I just post for the Husker fans from what I hear, With strong connects. lets let it go You're right. I misspoke. So it wasn't the redundancy of the "Mangino is in Lincoln interviewing." It was the redundancy of "Watson is gone." And thank you for letting it go. Much appreciated.

I know, right? I'm so mean I even moved his thread out of the Shed so it would get some views over in the Lounge. I must have missed the "thanks, knapp" for doing that. Good thing I didn't miss catching flak for locking some threads, though. Poor, poor me.

  25. It's ALL 3 of their faults. 1A. Bo 1B. Watson 1C. Martinez As I have been saying all along. Where we get sidetracked is when people refuse to admit to the possibility that any one of those three is to blame. The people giving Bo a complete pass are just as wrong as those giving Watson or Martinez a complete pass. And I've gone to bat against all three of them.
