  1. Ever notice how NOTHING is Shawn Watson's fault? It's either the guy above him (Bo) or the guys below him (his QBs) or the guys around him (the subordinate position coaches), but never, ever Watson's fault. It is impossible that nothing is Watson's fault, zoogies. Impossible.
  2. If I might chime in, the kind of offense were running in 2010 was going to be the stuff we saw in the Holiday Bowl, something which has been more or less confirmed by Niles Paul (and I think Watson himself spoke on it). Plainly, it is not the offense we actually ran in 2010. A change occurred and you could argue how major it was, I'd say it is fairly significant. Again, NOTHING we ran in 2010 was not in our playbook in 2009. Niles may not have liked the direction we went in, but it was there, in 2009's Holiday Bowl, for everyone to see.
  3. Okie is a Tight End. That's what she said.
  4. In some programs, position coaches are responsible for getting their players in the right frame of mind for the game. Apparently you don't feel that way.
  5. So, your fault with Bo is that he didn't fire Watson this time last year?
  6. Wow it sounds even more ridiculous when used in a sentence. They really have to change those division names. Agreed. I feel stupid using it. We should come up with our own nicknames, because Legends and Leaders is freakin' embarrassing.
  7. Facts? Do you mean facts like the fact that Watson was told the offense we were going to run prior to the bowl game last year, was given a chance to find another job if he couldn't get on board, tried very hard to find said job, could not find said job, and was then allowed to remain on staff while we changed offensive schemes, all the while knowing what was coming down the pike? You mean those kinds of facts? Because if we're not talking about those kinds of facts, we may as well not be talking about this. Watson's hands were not tied. Watson knew full well what was going on, and he opted in. The decision was his - find a new gig, step down, or stay at Nebraska in 2010 and run an offense geared more toward a running game than a WCO. Shawn Watson wanted a paycheck in 2010, and when he couldn't get it anywhere else, he took the one Bo offered him. Watson has nobody to blame for that but himself. If he didn't want to run this offense and he didn't want to use the QB we used, the door was available. The decision was not Watson's, it was Bo's. Bo is the head coach and makes all of the decisions. If Bo wanted to change the offense that drastically in a way we didn't have the talent, nor the experience to run, is on him. He should have found a different OC last year. To quote a famous American, what are you, 12? Welcome to football, where the Head Coach calls the shots. Watson knew full well what kind of offense we were running in 2010 back in January. He had every opportunity to move on, in whatever capacity, and he didn't. If you're going to fault Bo because he trusted Watson when Watson told him, "I want to run your offense," then you have problems with Bo that have nothing to do with this situation. The decision to stay at Nebraska belonged to one guy, and one guy only. Shawn Watson.
  8. Far as I know, it's the same thing with Frost - Warinner didn't want to come here on what would be a lateral transfer, and he opted to stay where he is / stability. Beck taking over the OC role probably screwed any chance we had to get Warinner or Frost. Regarding Frost being a douche - I felt the same way back in the late 90s. The guy won games, but he rubbed me the wrong way. Then I met him, had several conversations with him in the past few years, and my opinion has very much changed. Sure, he's a confident guy - very few NFL players lack confidence - but whatever D-baggery I saw or thought I saw in the 90s was gone. He was a regular guy, talking football with me, a very regular guy. Liked his dad, too. Very much liked his mom. When I met Frost he had zero reason to talk with me, but he took time to talk quite a number of times, for basically no reason. I have a hard time thinking he's a D-Bag these days.
  9. Doesn't matter where we're ranked preseason. We win Legends and the Big 10 CCG, we're in the BCS and likely we're in the MNC game. It's all in our hands. Just go win.
  10. It's not clear what Pelini knew and when he knew it. It is EXTREMELY likely he knew Sanders would not be coaching here over a week prior to signing day. Some evidence points to the information being available before Christmas, although it's purely circumstantial. I believe kchusker_chris was the first to mention here that there may be legal issues keeping Pelini's trap shut, and that's entirely possible. But so far nobody has come out and said it. I believe that's a possibility, but not a probability.

  12. If Watson's failure depended entirely on his inability to teach a running QB how to run this offense, and we bring in a guy (Beck?) who can teach that, I doubt seriously if we'll be left wanting. Frankly, if we simply get play calls to the huddle in a timely manner, that will be a marked improvement over the past three seasons. For an OC with such fantastic QB skills, Watson seemed way below average in getting plays to his QB in such a manner that he could get to the line in time to make necessary adjustments to alignment, etc. If Beck is the guy, and he can have plays ready and to the huddle with 20 seconds left on the play clock, that will be a drastic improvement already.
  13. Here's the article: Link with much more If it would have taken play-calling duties to get Frost here, I'm glad we passed. He hasn't shown yet that he's qualified. Maybe in a couple-three years, or if/when Bo leaves, but not now. Prudent decision.
  14. That was supposed to be BEIGE. Nice spelling on my part. The shirt he wore to the presser that didn’t have any Husker crap on it. The Black Sweatsuits are what the staff came out in for a couple games back in 2004 that got some folks panties in a twist. Duh. Now I remember that beige shirt thing. That was stupid, too. So was the sweatsuit thing, although I still don't remember that issue.
  15. The folks saying this weren't from HuskerBoard. Where did you hear this? HI?
  16. Issues are rarely black-and-white. Lots of folks want to make the latest flap with Bo an either/or issue, just like they want to make the entirety of the Callahan Era a yes/no or like/dislike issue. There were a few things about Callahan that I liked. Many that I didn't. Above all I tried to be fair, and held the man accountable for those things which were really his fault or about which he really should have been held accountable for. I do the same with Bo. To wit: Having said that, I find it comical that people think the Sanders issue was a non-issue or a manufactured crisis. It has ramifications. Is it a huge deal? Too early to tell how next year's recruits are going to react when this is used as a tool against Nebraska by teams vying for the same recruits. But it will be used, and it will not reflect well.
  17. Well, we can put the Frost rumors to bed. He's staying at Oregon: LINK
  18. I remember reading something like that, sometime within the past season. It stuck out, because a lot of folks obviously do NOT agree with that. I have no idea where I read it, either.
  19. Doesn't anyone feel it's unlikely that we would know the inside info of the offer made to Frost in such detail? Let's be realistic about that alleged offer. It's someone's pie-in-the-sky guess.
  20. I know Oregon has Nike money, but they're not better off financially than Nebraska. We have boosters who are willing to pony up large chunks of cash when needed. Hell, we could pass the hat around Nebraska and folks would chip in $10 a person if we needed to. It's not a question how much money we have. It's a question of how much we're willing to spend.
  21. Nebraska's 2010 SOS ended up being 39th - FAR higher than I thought it would be when the season started. KU's 2007 SOS ended up 74th. So there's some wiggle room there.
  22. VA Tech was the #3 scoring defense that year as well. KU scored 8 points more than VT averaged in 2007. Only LSU scored more points against the Hokies than KU. The caveat to this is, as we saw in the Holiday Bowl, it's not always the best team that wins. But KU wasn't chopped liver in 2007 - that's probably the most fair thing to say.
  23. That's weird - they won all those games and didn't play in a bowl game?
  24. This is what I would best classify myself as right now as well.
