  1. You've been to more games than me! Lucky you! My top five would have to be (in no particular order): 1. Kansas State game – early 80s: This was my first ever Husker game. My dad took me down to Manhattan with a group of folks that included his college buddy. We sat in the first row, down in the corner of the end zone, and the Huskers ran two or three TDs right at us. The cheerleaders were right in front of us the whole time and I was just discovering girls and thought they were angels. We scored a bazillion points and won handily in a sea of red in Memorial Stadium South. 2. 1993 Huskers vs. Sooners: This was the game that Trev Alberts hurt his elbow in. It was a close game throughout, it was HORRIBLY cold, and eventually we won. The crowd was electric, and I nearly froze my feet off because I wore canvas shoes with thin socks. Pretty dumb. 3. 1992 Colorado game: The pasting we put on the Buffaloes was unmerciful. It was a cold, sleety, rainy game, and we demolished the Buffs from the start of the game 'til the final gun. The Buffs got a meaningless TD in the second quarter to make the halftime margin 24-7, and we poured it on in the second half. Bill McCartney was on the field the whole game, the crowd was calling for penalties on him the whole game, and I lost my voice the next day. 4. 1996: Not sure which game it was, but I took my boss to the game and the seats were so full we were absolutely crammed together like sardines the whole time. Even though I was married at the time (and still am), I wasn't complaining at all. My boss (female) was pretty darned good looking. 5. Not sure. All the rest were pretty fun. Maybe some of the games I went to while in school, sitting in the block with guys from my house. That was a lot of fun.
  2. Penn State, 1982(?) Are you kidding me? Worst call in football history. Agreed, that is the worst call ever, but the topic of this thread is calls that were bad that went in our favor.
  3. My favorite part of that play were the two blocks thrown at the end. Something about those guys streaking in there to wipe out the Sooners chasing Rodgers gets me every time.
  4. Ha ha! Famous yes. Bad call, no. No way that was a clip. I will disagree. I thought it was pretty obvious. At the 44 yard line, 10 seconds in: vJOlzDJiaDw Off the subject - does it EVER get old listening to Lyle Bremser? Man I miss that guy.
  5. Probably the most famous Husker Bias call was the clipping that wasn't called on the Johnny Rodgers punt return in the Game of the Century.
  6. I think help is on the way, especially on our O Line. We should have Qvale healthy and able to play next year, and if he doesn't start he'll provide depth. We'll have more time to pass and better run blocking, I'm sure. I lifted this from another thread, but this is what our line could look like next year, and if healthy, it should be MUCH improved: This looks about right to me. I'd be happy with this line, if healthy. It can't help but be better than this year, and with a better line, ALL phases of the offense stand to be better. However, no matter how good the line plays, it won't help our WRs catch the ball. Those dropsies have got to stop. I would like to see Gilmore and Watson (assuming they're staying) go down to Texas Tech and have Leach teach them how he gets his WRs to snare the ball. I remember something about a tennis ball cannon and running in a sand pit. Those two circus catches in the first drive of our game this year set the tone, and set the Defense on their heels like no other game this year. We get anything remotely like that kind of determination from our WRs in the next year or two and it'll make this offense 5x better immediately.
  7. Big whoop. I've gone through this whole season with a torn tendon in my right index finger, and do you see me taking time off? No! I'm here typing away every day. You gotta play through the pain. Williams should have been an Outland contender, even with a torn pec. Rub some dirt on it, for crying out loud! * * - I'm not using the sarcasm smiley because it's obvious
  8. You say that with sarcasm, but that's not a horrible idea. It's a far sight better idea than leaving the Big 12 for the Big 10 or Independence. College football's top division has WAAAAAY too many teams. It's unwieldy to try to sift through 120 teams to pick two who are most deserving of playing for the title. With legislated parity like we have with the schollie limits, we HAVE TO have a playoff. College football is heading toward a reckoning. The Feds are already poking around the fringes. With the kind of money involved in this sport, it's almost inevitable that the Justice Dept. will end up getting involved (not just the poseurs in Congress), and if that happens, there's no way this system as it exists today will survive scrutiny under the Sherman Act. Then they'll have to change, and if it's legislated it'll be a disaster.
  9. Do calls go our way that shouldn't? Of course, on a game-by-game basis. It's like asking if there's holding that doesn't get called in a game. Every game, both teams get away with holding, in both college and the NFL. Every game the Huskers play there are calls that should go against us but don't. Not remembering specifically which game, but there was even a play that was reviewed and still went our way, that I thought shouldn't. It happens. What kind of groundbreaking discussion are you looking for? And further, show me links to message boards from ten teams across college football's landscape where they have frequent discussions on how they "got away with" penalties in games. It doesn't happen. Once again, you're decrying this fan base for being human, then getting all full of angst when people don't take the topic seriously. Sorry.
  10. I think what he's saying is, Nebraska Fan is the only fan in the country who thinks we get screwed. Apparently he doesn't go to any other team's message boards, and/or lives on a deserted isle and Huskerboard is the only site the computer he cobbled together out of oyster shells and barnacles can access.
  11. Nobody is saying Crick will be the same as Suh. Crick will simply be the better of the two DTs. That's all anyone is saying.
  12. I thought it was deft, too! See? We can agree on something!
  13. Final word? Why, thank you! My final word on this is that you're whining about nothing. You're expecting a level of behavior from an entire fan base that's unrealistic, that doesn't exist anywhere, and that wouldn't be representative of a real-world gamut of emotions that would logically be expected from any diverse group. Further, the team you're defending has exhibited and continues to exhibit behavior far worse than any example you've come up with. So, the ideal you expect from one team you don't expect from another. Illogical. Also, when someone calls you out on that unrealistic expectation, you go into attack mode and start sniping. That makes you a hypocrite, since you're clearly not evincing the behavior you demand from this fan base. You've been shown, by your own behavior, to be unrealistic and a hypocrite. You could improve by acting in a manner you demand Husker fans act in, and by holding every school and fan base up to the same level of behavior you want from us. And that's.... one to grow on.
  14. It's too bad Helu got banged up. 1,100 yards on a bum shoulder is nothing to sneeze at.
  15. If you can't stand the heat.... and you're the ultimate heat giver, right? You say so. I'm just calling you out on your huge pantie bunch. If you think that's the "ultimate heat," whatever. there's one like you on every board. The one that's "above the fray". The one that always has the last word. The ultimate comeback. The one that can discern legitimate discussion from panty bunch. The one who can express his own opinion, yet diss anyone else who might express theirs. God I admire you. I love America. Your opinion matters so much to me. If you could only feel the hurt I feel right now. Oh. The pain.
  16. kiss mine. This from the person chiding me on "pleasantries" in another thread. How hypocritical. Just returning the favor... By behaving in a manner far worse than 90% of the Husker fans you're whining about in your other thread. As long as you're not bothered by your own hypocrisy, and don't mind putting it on full display, it makes for some marginal entertainment for the rest of us. I say knock yourself out. You're doing a wonderful job representing the "right way" of behaving on a message board.
  17. If you can't stand the heat.... and you're the ultimate heat giver, right? You say so. I'm just calling you out on your huge pantie bunch. If you think that's the "ultimate heat," whatever.
  18. kiss mine. This from the person chiding me on "pleasantries" in another thread. How hypocritical.
  19. What kind of cheese do you eat with all of this whine? My god, grow a pair and knock this crap off. All your posts are talking about how horrible Texas is being treated by Nebraska fans. Cry me a freaking river! I have zero angst toward Texas or about Texas. I have friends and family from Texas and currently living in Texas. I've heard the gamut from Texas Fans love Nebraska to Texas fans giving Nebraska fans a raft of crap every day. It happens everywhere, from all teams to all teams, and there's nothing you or I or anyone can do about it. This tired old "I thought Nebraska fans were better than this" is childish. Expecting EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of a fan base to constantly exhibit your idea of proper behavior smacks of such a ridiculous brand of pollyannaism that I can't fathom how you could possibly be old enough to have gone to college, let alone grad school. You're going to have Nebraska fans who don't like Texas and have nothing good to say about them. You're going to have Nebraska fans who have nothing but good things to say about Texas. Wringing your hands over the former like this is just stupid. You knew what would happen when you started a thread like this. If you didn't, it's on you.
  20. As fun as our old offense was under Osborne, let's not only look at it over the final few years. There were far too many times when we got ourselves in a dogfight where we had to score quickly to come back, and couldn't. I want an offense that includes elements of power running AND the real ability to throw down field when necessary. I can't remember more than a few decent passers in the Osborne Option Era - Gill, Gdowski and Taylor. All too often our inability to pass the ball bit us hard when teams stacked the box. Can anyone remember a game where we were down late, had to pass, and were successful at it during the last 15 years of Osborne? 1997 Missouri with Scott Frost comes to mind; the last-minute drive with like 1:17 on the clock and Davison's catch off Wiggins' foot is about the only time I can remember working our way down field under duress like that.
