  1. And if you look at Syracuse, they fit that to a "T" with the QBs they have. Cam Dantley was horrid last year, bad enough that they'd welcome Paulus to at least try for the job. Their other option was a redshirt freshman who will most likely go in if Paulus gets hurt or stinks it up, so they have nothing to lose by bringing the guy in for one year. Syracuse was 3-9 last year with wins over Northeastern, Louisville and Notre Dame, three schools most people have never heard of (well, Louisville is well-known). So it doesn't hurt them one iota to give the reins to Paulus and see what he can do.
  2. Ah, yes, the "greatest fans" argument. You're not the "greatest fans" if you ever utter something that's not nice! You're not the "greatest fans" if you've ever had a naughty thought! It's like Santa Claus monitors these boards, looking for who's naughty or nice, and if you're not nice by gum, out comes the "greatest fans" line again. He's checked his list twice, Jen, and we're not the "greatest fans" anymore because you uttered a discouraging word! For shame!!!11!!!eleven!
  3. But other than that, you like him, right?
  4. You're right about recent success, but the flip side is that pretty much everyone would trade our last four years for the last four years at USC or OU. It's not a guarantee of success if you have longevity in coaching, just like losing coaches doesn't guarantee failure. The main thing is continuity, and if that comes from keeping your coaches around for a while, that's cool with me. It was always a point of pride that we had such long-term guys on our staff all those years.
  5. Probably not, but I think that's going to be the norm from now on. I doubt Ekeler is here after this season, especially if the LBs really step up. I think we're going to be seeing turnover in the staff every few years, and that's OK, as long as we replace them with quality guys. If that happens, then Nebraska will never be truelly back. With all the great things Snyder did at KState, he really never got a sniff of a NC because of the amount of staff he lost on an annual basis. I fear that you are right. I also fear we may never be "back" because of it. Doesn't seem to have hurt Florida and/or USC much. Oklahoma, too. Ohio State has turnover and they do OK. Just losing coaches to promotions doesn't doom us. It's when we replace the coaches we lose with Craig Bohl that's the problem.
  6. Bo has stated that he intends for all of his Asst. Coaches to get gigs somewhere else and that he'll do whatever he can to help further their careers. But I don't see any teams beating a path to Carl's door anytime soon.
  7. If playing at an elite level and having will and dedication and loyalty and boatloads of talent is all it takes to make a star in most any sport, then Michael Jordan should have done very well in his baseball career. But that's not all it takes, because not all sports are the same. Being a gifted athlete at one sport doesn't mean you're gifted at all of them (ask Michael about his golf game, too), and the four years of rust Paulus has to knock off are going to be a problem. Imagine going into Blacksburg with a QB whose only significant playing time since High School, four years ago, was against FAU and Arkansas State. We'd get destroyed. I wish Paulus well at Syracuse, too. But I don't want him within a mile of our starting QB spot.
  8. Probably not, but I think that's going to be the norm from now on. I doubt Ekeler is here after this season, especially if the LBs really step up. I think we're going to be seeing turnover in the staff every few years, and that's OK, as long as we replace them with quality guys.
  9. Just noticed this is their lead story on their NCAA Football page. Cool.
  10. I don't think that'll be a problem. Keller got hurt two years ago, but I can't remember when a Husker QB got knocked out of the season in-game before that. Someone help me remember the last time this happened...? Frazier and Berringer both had injury issues in 1994. Maybe that's the last time this happened?
  11. I don't think that's up for debate, either. We have to hope that Lee is competent and stays healthy all year. If we're forced to put in Washington or Green, it's going to be a pretty tough year. Who knows? Maybe the defense will rise up and shut everyone down, and we can get by running Helu and Q in non-stop Wildcat formation?
  12. What earlier statement? Your only post in this thread is your crack about "such an advanced opponent in Zac Lee with all his starts and career touchdowns," which doesn't sound like you're giving both equal due. The fact is Lee's resume is far superior to Paulus' and even comparing the two at this point is pretty silly. Paulus is a basketball player trying to play football. Lee is a football player getting on track with his grades. Of the two, there's no doubt who you would want at this point, and it's not even close.
  13. While Paulus was shooting hoops, Lee was completing 64% of his passes for 3,400 yards and 35 TDs en route to the California Jr. College Championship game. Paulus hasn't played competitive football in four years. Of their two resumes, Lee's is by far superior.
  14. Good article. They clearly still hold Coach Wats in high regard over there, and rightly so. He's a good guy, and a good coach. And they're right - if Nebraska does well again this year, and if Zac Lee can be another in a string of impressive Watson-coached QBs, and if (when) Hawkins fails to deliver on his ten wins promise, do they fire Hawkins and come looking for Watson? And if Watson goes to Colorado (a huge "if" of course), I wonder what that would do to the rivalry. Wats is happy here, he respects the Huskers and our traditions, and he knows what kind of team we have and people we are. I can't imagine him doing anything to fuel whatever bad blood there is between the schools, and I could see him going as far as working to make this a true, two-sided rivalry. Wats going to Colorado could be the best thing that happens to fan relations between our two schools.
  15. Greg Paulus being named starter shocks me nearly as much as Sam Keller being named starter. With one year of eligibility to work with, neither Paulus now nor Keller back in the day were going to go to a school where they wouldn't start.
  16. Yep. First rule of look-alike threads...
  17. That's because you forgot rule #1 - always talk to the aquarium man.
  18. You registered before the fiasco on HuskerBoard in 2007, so either you've forgotten the rampant rumors from that season or you don't care.
  19. No, you did not. I have no idea where that facepalm came from. I think you'll find your post agreed-with by about 90% of the people who post here. "Pat Forde is an unapologetic Mizzou homer, who is wrong all the time. No self respecting Husker fan should take him seriously!"
  20. I can answer that in two words: Pre. Season. Everyone is bored and looking for something to talk about until the pads start popping.
  21. Good sir, what are these "adjustments" of which you speak? I know not what you mean...? Sincerely, Bill Callahan
  22. Kansas is getting the nod because they think they'll beat us in their house. It's up to us to make believers out of these pollsters. Screw the pollsters, they don't play the games. All the players have to prove is that they can win football games. Everything else is hyperbole. We're talking about people who pick games. You can call them pollsters or prognosticators or writers or whatever, but you really can't "screw" them when they're the subject of the conversation.
  23. I'll be Bo. I'd give Bo even odds against The Terminator.
  24. I'm not trying to crack on you, man. You're probably a swell person. I'm just saying that, without knowing you, you're just as anonymous as I am. Am I Bo Pelini? Am I Arnold Schwarzenegger? Nobody knows, so nobody knows how much credibility to give me when I post. We're all in the same boat.
