  1. I think throwing urine is an extreme example and not indicative of the CU fan base as a whole. I think that if it did happen (again, I've seen no evidence of this from the CU side, either), it was some drunken fool having a mental moment. I think there is a fair percentage of people in Boulder who like to get rowdy at games, and I think there is a fair percentage for whom throwing snowballs is not a problem. But going beyond that kind of thing is rare and not indicative of the fan base as a whole. It's too easy to stereotype a whole fan base off the actions of a few. Now, CU has earned some pretty poor opinions across the Big XII for their behavior, let's not pretend. Nebraska fans have long been a target, but the laser incident with OSU's QB is an example of other incidents against other teams. So do Husker fans expect CU fans to be vulgar/poorly behaved? Yes, but those are well earned expectations. And no, Husker fans don't go to Boulder hoping to be someone's target so they can run home and talk about it to their friends.
  2. Eh. It's probably not a very profound point I'm making about the "contradiction." No matter. Those who deny that there's a rivalry are similar to people who deny the sun rises in the west. If you told someone the sun rises in the west, they'd tell you you're wrong. If you say it again, they'll tell you you're wrong again. Lather, rinse, repeat. That's what Husker fans are doing - there is no rivalry, and we say so whenever Buffs fans bring it up. But every time we deny it, Buffs fans take that as fuel for their argument. It's baffling.
  3. Yeah, just me and the other roughly one million fans who think like me. So lonely.
  4. You just contradicted yourself, you know that, right? First you say you don't need us to validate your rivalry, then you say you like it when we treat you different than any other team. Which is it? Here's the thing - there's no such thing as a one-sided rivalry. It takes two to tango, so if only one team thinks it's a rivalry, it isn't. We call people who pursue another person this adamantly even though the object of their affection doesn't want the attention a "stalker."
  5. Who ever said anything about a police report? How about a news article about it? How about a photo to go along with it? How about an admission by a Nebraska fan that they did it? Because here's where your Husker fan bashing runs into trouble - knowing what we know about Colorado's fans, it's entirely possible that one of them did it to cast Husker fans in a bad light. Preposterous, sure, and highly unlikely, but it's just as possible as your "Husker fans are bad people" nonsense. It's fun to pretend, isn't it? You just keep pretending that the ONLY reason people across the country see us different is because we're the only Div IA school in the state. Have fun with that.
  6. The next person to post something below this agrees that they are automatically wrong. Just sayin'. =D
  7. Those must be the CU fans who don't go online and post on message boards. The few times I've been on any CU message boards, nearly half the conversation was about Nebraska or its fans. That's both during the season, when you're not playing Nebraska next (or just after), and in the off season. So perhaps you're right, but if so, the vocal minority drowns out the majority. This I agree with. It's too bad the Big XII killed this rivalry. It's not even a shadow of what it once was. The only way to revive it is to have the Sooners and Huskers win their divisions and meet in the Championship game every year. Then it will be just like old times, when the game was for the conference championship pretty much every year.
  8. Anyone who knows even a little bit about college football lore knows about the Four Horsemen. Only one team beat the Four Horsemen two times, and that was our very own Huskers.
  9. BC asked for topics a while back for his Deep Red series, and I suggested this one. I was glad to see he wrote about it, and did such a great job. Sipple, Christopherson, Rosenthal, McKeever and Henrichs are a pretty darned good crew of reporters over at the JournalStar. I just hope they get their site worked out. This new version is a train wreck.
  10. Listen, I'm not trying to cast aspersions on you. I'm willing to believe you on a personal level, but I work in employment law where we take nothing on someone's word. That's what evidence is for. You and I both know people make things up, and while you and I would probably enjoy sitting down to a beer and our favorite Husker stories, I don't know you at this point. I could tell you I'm the Pope and you couldn't prove otherwise. And yes, I agree that using murderers and rapists is a HUGE stretch. It's an analogy, and no analogies are 1:1. I'm exaggerating to try and prove the point to junior, who seems to be having trouble dissociating the actions of one with the actions of all.
  11. Suh's announcement that he was coming back was the most exciting thing to happen to this team in ten years. Well, that and the Alamo Bowl.
  12. Got a link to a news article about the "incident?" And why does this one incident tarnish all Husker fans? Are we all supposed to be good little boys and girls who never utter a cross word? We don't make mistakes? We're not human? Do the actions of a very tiny percentage of people, who do things the vast majority think are horrible, provide a true representation of Husker fans? If so, does that mean that we're a bunch of murderers? Robbers? Rapists? Because I can guarantee you I can go down to 14th & Highway 2 and find a bunch of Husker fans in the state prison. Who best represents Husker fans? The majority or the minority?
  13. Just curious, but does that mean people can't do it here for some reason? Are the sites affiliated?
  14. Considering Illinois returns a very talented QB and RB behind a decent o-line with the best receiving corps in the Big 10, I would be very concerned if I was Missou. Missou beating Illinois the last four years doesn't mean anything. Nevada is an away game on a Friday. Nevada's offense can move the ball, but they have alot of questions on D. I look forward to watching both of these games. All true. And I should amend my earlier post to say "any of our non-cons besides VA Tech." That's pretty obvious, I'm sure, but I wanted to be clear.
  15. As long as Jake Plummer isn't their QB, you're gold.
  16. Amen. It's a fact, it happened, and we're listed as co-champs.... but when you get shellacked by the other co-champs 52-17, that's so much less than a footnote it's not worth mentioning.
  17. I wouldn't be surprised if Missou was 2-2 by the time we meet up with them. Eh. That is possible, but I'd put the odds of that about the same as Nebraska being 2-2 when we play. Illinois and Nevada don't scare me too much if I'm Missouri. They certainly warrant Missouri's full attention, but Nevada isn't going to be much worse than any of our non-cons besides VA Tech, and Illinois has lost the last four to Missouri.
  18. It was one factor of many that cost us that game.
  19. yes they open with Illinois, also play a pretty good Nevada team on the road. This is the last time they're doing this series, right? Or is that next year? That was a fun bunch of games to watch - I'll be sad to see them end.
  20. I think Bo will never, ever be satisfied with the Defense, and I think that's pretty standard for competitive guys like him. I don't think anyone was satisfied after the '96 Fiesta Bowl - they were just more satisfied than usual. =)
  21. Then kindly explain why people across the country, media and other fans, continually express that Nebraska fans are different than others they encounter across the country. Explain why Lee Corso (who is otherwise a buffoon, granted) acknowledges that we are different. Kindly explain why you never hear other fan bases across the country talked about the same way you hear ours discussed. The Sal is Dead sign and the urine bombs ARE alleged. I work in a world of legal evidence. Such anecdotal allegations are baseless unless proven. You, however, revel in the fact that these things did happen, and you continually bring up such "issues" as fact. They are not fact because you allege them. I'm willing to not call you or other people liars to their face, which is why I've hedged by saying "alleged," but the bottom line is, prove it or it didn't happen. Further, even if both incidents did happen, they are by necessity done by a VAST MINORITY of fans. The Sal is Dead sign, if true, was done by one guy. Maybe one carload of guys. Five people do not negate the literally millions of fans who abhor that kind of behavior. But to you they do. Missouri's state penitentiary has a Death Row full of murderers and rapists. Some of those folks are Missouri Tigers fans. By your logic, Missouri Tigers fans are murderers and rapists. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Nobody is denying that we're a normal fan base. What I'm sick of is seeing people like you who claim to be Husker Fans continually bringing up the fact that we have issues, as if without you we'd have no idea that we've had some pretty unsavory guys on our team or some pretty unsavory fans in our stadium. Here's a clue for you - WE ALL KNOW THAT. You go find a forum for any team in the nation where their fans continually talk about the arrests of their players, or the boorishness of their fans, and then you can come back and deride us for supporting our team the way we do. When you can't find anything remotely like that, maybe you'll learn that the kind of acknowledgment you seem to be looking for is ridiculous.
  22. I agree that 8-4 is likely this year. I disagree with a lot of his reasoning, though, and I very much disagree that Texas Tech isn't likely to be in the top 25 when we play them. Kansas and Missouri definitely have a chance to be ranked when we play (especially Missouri - it's the first conference game!).
  23. Not nearly as comical as you continuing to throw the entire fan base under the bus because some idiot once threw a cup of urine in our stadium. It's hilarious how many times I have personally told you that the actions of these few individuals do not represent anything the fan base as a whole believes in, yet you continue to act as if the actions of these people negate the positives of the vast majority of fans. It is a given that every group has misfits. What you fail to realize is that Nebraska's fan base is recognized around the country by people completely unassociated with us for our good sportsmanship. You can continue tilting at windmills all you want. Those of us who live in reality know two things - A ) every fan base contains people who do foolish things and B ) Nebraska has less of them than most.
  24. You did direct this at me, though. You did crack on my football team. Note the use of my nym, and the pronouns that identify me. I don't think that's all that unclear. Pointing out the scores of those games, "laughing" about them, is cracking on my team. I question why you bother to "joke" as well. You're apparently not very good at it, or at least this wasn't one of your best efforts. I've enjoyed your posts about 99% of the time here. You have good knowledge and you're not (typically) disrespectful. This really caught me the wrong way, intended or not. I'm willing to chalk this up to a misunderstanding. I'll take you at your word that you were joking, and that I took it the wrong way. To help clods like me in the future, if you could be maybe a little more obvious about your jokes, that would probably stop this kind of thing, at least on my end. Cheers.
  25. Especially Asante. I don't see how someone can get beat so many times and still play!! There wasn't enough talent behind him to replace him.
