  1. Just to rustle some feathers, I'd love to see them come up with a new mascot named "Herb." He'd be like the old Herbie, but he'd be black.
  2. All I can think about is how many points Ganz's game today would translate to in fantasy football.
  3. Well he has the best RB in the nation and his team is 6-4. And don't give me that "the SEC is just that good" crap. There's a reason why Arkansas might bust a Nutt after the season and fire the guy. We don't want that trash, especially after what he pulled four years ago.
  4. This thread belongs in Rumorville.
  5. And not only will the opposing QB or RB not be the Big XII Player of the Week, but a Husker will be!
  6. Right. Osborne has now said twice that there would be a "new coaching staff" (in that TV interview slip and then to recruit Simi Kuli). The only question is will Osborne fire Cally after the Colorado game if we win and have Watson coach the bowl game? I'm guessing he wouldn't fire a coach right on the heels of a win against a rival.
  7. Poor old Billy C can't catch a break these days. Even when his team rolls up an opponent on senior day he still gets . The official AP recap of the game mistakenly calls him "Tom Callahan." How much do you think it gets under his skin to have his and Osborne's names blended? I guess it's understandable since it certainly looked like Dr. Tom was coaching the Huskers today. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=273140158
  8. There's no way he'd resign after being so adamant that he would never quit on his players. The press conference is probably TO announcing he's extending Cally a few more years.
  9. Too bad they decided not to have any recruits at this game.
  10. Every time I've heard Monte Kiffin interviewed he talks glowingly about his time at Nebraska and always has the highest praise to say about TO. Exactly. But I had written off the idea of Kiffin coming back after hearing Barrett Ruud interviewed by Rome saying that he couldn't see it happening. But the fact that his [/i]son said this makes this possibility have some real legs. I still see it as a very long shot, but it's intriguing never the less.
  11. Yeah, I'm not saying it's going to happen or that I would prefer it. But Lane made it sound like Monte would probably have some interest. He also said that Monte probably would've accepted the job when Solich was fired, but Peterson never even called him about the position. Can you believe that we could've had Monte as HC and probably Lane as OC instead of Billy C and Coz? Thanks, Petey!!!!
  12. I assume many of you just heard Lane Kiffin on the Jim Rome Show. He suggested that Monte Kiffin would probably listen to Osborne if he called about the Nebraska HC position. He's 67 years old, so perhaps he could keep the seat warm for a few years while Turner Gill gets more HC experience. Thoughts?
  13. I love Gill and I'm a Christian, but one reason I don't want him to be our next coach is because I don't want to hear all of this God talk every time he's interviewed. Someone should just tell him that we all know that he's a Christian and puts his trust in God, so now he doesn't have to state that in every answer he gives.
  14. My definition of a good head coach is Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights. Why don't we just hire Kyle Chandler to play Coach Taylor and have the FNL writers write some passionate pregame and halftime speeches for him. Then let the assistant coaches handle the football stuff. I'm becoming convinced that Pete Carroll couldn't coach himself out of a box, but he's a "rah-rah" guy that surrounds himself with good assistants. Okay, so I'm only half-serious about hiring Kyle Chandler, but we clearly need someone who can motivate and develop players.
  15. Going out on a limb here...but I guess for the same reasons Meyer was at Utah, Tressell in DII, Schiano at Rutgers, etc. Probably a better question is how do "bad coaches" end up at big time schools. People make selecting coaches out to be an over simplified process. Right, and don't forget that Johnson beat Tressell for one of his two DII titles (though I suppose the players probably played some part in that).
  16. Hmm, something tells me Watson might have an idea how to exploit a defense that overcommits.
  17. Anyone who wears all black must be classy....or metrosexual.
  18. Actually, he said both of these things. But he did make a big deal about how Nebraska will never be a major power again in large part because of the weather. It seemed that the weather was the main reason why he thinks Nebraska is a "convincer" while USC and Florida are "askers." And, as usual, he's totally wrong. Of course the weather is one of many, many factors; but it's not even a primary factor for most. Half of the current BCS top ten teams are located in regions that have cold winters. Cowherd is just another sports radio contrarian looking to rustle feathers. Remember that he's a west coast guy. And as someone from southern California, I can tell you that most people on the west coast think that everyone in the country wishes they lived in a region that doesn't have actual seasons. They tell themselves that in order to make themselves feel better about paying ten times more for their houses.
  19. Seriously. I think the cat is out of the bag that Nebraska fans are not okay with their coaches pissing on their program's proud tradition and running passing it into the ground. Relax. And after those reports about Callahan intentionally tanking in Oakland in order to get a fat buyout, I'm not convinced that he's sincerely trying as hard as he can. From what I heard from someone who regularly attends practice, Callahan hasn't even coached in practices for the last two weeks. He said he only watches different units and allows Watson and other assistants to work the units.
  20. Check the other threads. We've been talking about Johnson since it became clear that Cally must go.
  21. Maybe he's trying to Nutt us and just get more money from LSU. After all Osborne has denied all rumors of his visiting Nebraska. This sounds like Houston Nutt situation all over again. I think captain obvious was employing a bit of sarcasm in his post. But you might be right that Pelini could use Nebraska as a negotiating chip, whether it me against A&M, LSU (if Les Miles does go to Michigan), or another school.
  22. Johnson isn't just an option guy. He didn't run the option at Georgia Southern. He runs the option at Navy because that offensive scheme makes sense with the kinds of players they are able to get. He implements an offense that makes the most sense with the personel he has; so I guess you could say he's the anti-Callahan. callahanera16, it's about time to change your screen name.
