  1. It makes me smile, a field goal at the end of game, for the contest, any contest, is not all about fame. Stoops was stupid, it was plain for all to see, and White, well he wanted Heisman Two, refused to take a knee. Pellini,oh did he complain, but our Huskers were enduring the pain, resulting from the Sooners' playing of White on a 30-0 night. So it's up and it's good did Rose proclaim to all, and next year, oh next year, these Sooners will fall. [Poetic justice of last second field goals must be recognized using poetic devices.] Huskereb
  2. I sense the frustration with Callahan and all, but a new system takes time. Frank's system was like Windows 98, very reliable, but everyone knew the code and was hacking it like crazy. Callahan is better suited to the college game, but getting the WCO to work with a bunch of I-formation recruits is overly impossible. Now that time, a seson (on the field and in the recruiting field) has almost past, we shall be able to see the direction our beloved program is heading. Not with points and wins or losses, but through the caliber of athlete we attract. Things are looking very positive right now, and Callahan seems to have the patience with college men that's needed. He certainly blew up and off the overrated baby men of the Raiders last year as that program self destructed under his guidance. Can the WCO be played successfully? Yes, with the correct personnel. Look at Mike Vick, one heckuva QB, but the WCO has been a style that he has yet learned to adjust to. Other QBs physical and mental talents are more suited to the WCO, and we have made that discovery this season. By the way, last time I checked the U was still a college, not in the NFL. Callahan will thrive at NU and you can say you read it here, today, first. Mark my words.
  3. Keep praying that UNLV gives Frankie the cold shoulder. I don't need that kind of frustration again.

  5. Huskers 28 Bears 10 NU Rush=215 yards NU Pass=205 yards
  6. Tech already played and lost to OU. OU didn't make turnovers and Tech made four. In their losses this season, Tech gave away the ball. Saturday we did in abundance, and they didn't. Sounds like a way to lose the ball game. Cos's system will eventually work, but time isn't a commodity for a 70-10 loser. I don't believe anything other than holding onto the ball would have changed the outcome. We have lost the ball and given everyone great field position all season. Let's see, take away seven points per turnover and we lose 21-10. I think people would still say we stink. Are we more talented? That's worth of debate. Can we will six against D1 opponents? Yes. Tangerine's smell nice and beating the Deacons would be a great way to launch the recovery which is next season.
  7. Well no one has figured out Tech all year, and I doubt anyone will. You could have rushed five or six, but then their speed would have scored on every play. They had the scheme and excuted it so well. The only teams to beat them, won the turnover game. We didn't do that, and Tech won. (Gee, that happens in most FB games-you make less mistakes, you win.) We had some hurries, but not enough. Eight back didn't work, seven didn't, six killed us, and having nine back would have given all day to shred us. Against UNM (Tech's first loss) they shot themselves in the foot, and were just beginning to gel. It would have been a victory if not for a late UNM turnover. UNM has an extra bonus of playing in the somewhat pass happy Mountain West. (The Lobos get to face such daunting foes as Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado State. They have seen 55 passes a game before.) To Nebraska's credit, they sure see a lot of reps against a West Coast Offense; the WCO isn't a fun and gun a la Spurrier and Mouse Davis. Cos and Cal will make Reilly pay-next season very dearly. In the meantime, the Red Raider faithful can look forward to San Diego and the Holiday Bowl if all goes well. The Tangerine wants Nebraska I hear. Well, the ACC loves the pass, so keep this tape close and get out your scouting sheets. We could need these adjustments. By the way, what adjustments, using the players and coaches we have available, would any of you have made. I discounted M2M immediately. A three deep and two out (covering the sideline leaves you 2-3 guys to go M2M with threat du jour. I'd have sent a few more blitzes (and doubled up a lot more-but remember with that risk you have to play M2M into the zone coverage-something we are not used to.) Zones don't work and we didn't have the Man personnel. Given the short field position and lack of momentum, I would have been forced to endure and recover much like the coaches did today. Not pretty but since the players were confused, I'm not sure what else could have been done. Hopefully Baylor doesn't install a fun and gun this week. We will be in trouble.
  8. But he didn't have a better feel for Texas Tech. OU's offense protected their defense by playing errorfree ball. We didn't. Gee, Jason Lohr and those seniors who left after the season played quite significant roles on a now, nonexistent defense. The coaches will learn from this embarrassment and Reilly will pay dearly for years to come, SP and BC will remember. Gee, I'm thinking an Army-NU 1971 (or was it 1970) score. Total demoralization and pull out of Vietnam-type thrashing. Cos will give you cause to support our defense and its glory. Last time I checked most of these guys (10 of 11 starters) are returning next year. Now that doesn't make it easier for us today or tomorrow, but like a well picked hybrid--yield is the final score. A frigging' joke we may have been, but know that everyone from the equipment manager to the orthopedic staff to the head coach to his microphone carrier is working to fix this problem. Otherwise they'd have to close down this bulletin board, because we didn't care. Gee, I don't see a RedRaiderboard anywhere out there. Have a great week, Huskerebel
  9. Redout, I am not a big coach, I have coached youths through HS age in baseball and basketball, and even dabbled in adult league hoop coaching. Any coach at any level knows that team chemistry and discipline are huge issues. Callahan did the right thing, and Richie knows it. I currently coach MS hoops in LV NV.
  10. It was so bad, I even left the TV (with the Tivo on) and went to Hollywood Video late in the third quarter. Coach C will be at NU for a while, and things may get a whole lot worse before they get better. I don't think it will happen, but this could implode like an old-time Vegas casino. Dailey and Davis will be our Qbs for the year, with a slim possibility of an Adams or Goodman sighting. Makes me long for the years with Grant, Clayton, Joseph, and Berringer. We need to understand that we are not getting the best players, didn't get them, but might have several arrive next year. Kids are excited about the Corn Coast, and after tonight's loss, talented seniors at high schools all over the US are moving Nebraska up their list because they know they can play D and tackle better than we did tonight-thereby playing sooner than they might at USC, Ohio State, Florida State, etc. So while we didn't look great tonight, and maybe even terrible, the windfall of talent could be worth the pain. I hope it is.
  11. Snyder is the front runner in a race that hasn't begun. Hamrick will get his own guy from outside. Snyder is only at UNLV because of Robinson. I doubt he'll even get an interview. UNLV looked pretty good last night, but the Huskers could still beat them like a poor child, even after tonight's performance.
  12. What does that mean, after all, Joe and Beau didn't look ready tonight either. Maybe HuskerBob can slip on his number 10 and throw a Dave Humm pass? Or maybe Tommie Frazier can pretend to be back in school, he looked young back then. QB is only one issue, but our turnovers killed us tonight.
  13. BTW I am almost bipolar. Davis was confused with Goodman at the beginning of my last post. Goodman won't see the light of day, but Davis will go somewhere. Beck needs a ball carrier and clipboard guy next year. Stuntz is doing it for Joe right now.
  14. I agree with you Benard, Davis was just terrible. I think Dailey comes back next week, but he's not the guy. Can hardly wait to see if Beck pans out. Davis and Goodman will get more time as the losses accumulate, if they do. As long as Dailey wins games, or we are close (within three TDs,) Joe will play. Otherwise the developmental program (fall league in readiness for spring ball and then the Beck arrival) will rule the second half of at least a couple more games. Nothing like live hits and a real defense to develop a QBs mental and physical toughness. Nothing beats taking a hit for his development. DLs and LBs hold back too much because laps are killers at the end of practice when you hit the yellow shirts. Davis looked bad, but not as bad as Dailey did. If we lose two of the next three, he starts at Iowa State. (I wonder if my local Vegas sportsbook will take action on that one.) Huskerebel
  15. As a coach, it's better to cut out the cancer, which Bill did and Oregon complied with. As for his future, Incognito better learn something here. He's a talented OL who could start on Sunday for many teams right now. Sure he's a flake, sure he's a bad ass in the clubhouse. Talent on the field is talent, and pro coaches want very much to hold their jobs. Someone will invest in him, he'll make a ton of money and Nebraska won't get any credit from him. Who cares? We want talent not trouble. Devaney, Osborne, Solich and Callahan had and have to have team chemistry. Dealing with malcontents like Richie is a distraction for the coaches and team alike. I had a similar situation and it almost killed me. Nebraska's program and discipline in the program will grow because of Richie's absence and their handing of it.
  16. HUSKERBOB gets my votes, if for nothing other than soiling his drawers.
  17. Heard this today, and immediately thought it was a reversal of the Amish in the City show from this summer. Maybe we will see Tommy doing some regular Lincoln things like cruising the bars, hitting on the chicks, etc. As for him playing and wearing a band uniform, have you looked at the drum line guys lately anywhere else? They look like Junior Tommys to me.
  18. Well he is not from Nebraska. Did you think that he would come in here and act just like Tom or Frankie. I sure didn't . I thought he would act like a husker. He is anything but nebraskan. He's going after all west coast players. I think we should change our name to West Coast chumps instead of nebraska huskers. I suppose you wear RED 24/7/52 weeks a year, right? When you mow the lawn or rake the leaves, you're wearing your Corn Coast T-Shirt or Red Nebraska hoodie? (This is Saturday's clothing option. Been there, done that.) You have a Herbie icon tie, and always wear it to church Sunday morning with your red blazer and khaki or black slacks (depending on the week.) Let's see, scarlet Lands End oxford for Monday, Blackshirt polo on Tuesday, Blue demin shirt with Huskers helmet logo on Wednesday, white oxford with wife's embroidered Nebraska-font on Thursday (date night with her, got to score points,) and vintage Devaney-era T-Shirt on casual Friday with jeans (bonus points for the Dekalb hat on the dash of your deep red Chevy Silverado.) Get a life, Callahan certainly has. Corporate logo wear will come with his first paycheck. Bill certainly gets Nebraska, he just doesn't have the allegiance of Solich (which by the way came from a Non-Red wearing guy named Bob Devaney back in the 60s!) Didn't see you chewing him out. Wow, the coach doesn't wear red every day. Gimmee (and him) a break already. Wins don't come from wearing Red, they come from hard work, research, game planning, and talented players on the field. Right now we are working hard, Bill and staff are doing the research and, believe it or not, making the game plan. The talented (loosely applied term after the loss tonight) players play better than I ever could, and I love to watch and cheer them on, regardless of the outcome. Sure the losses hurt, but Bill won't know the difference, heck he probably doesn't even read this bulletin board.
  19. Bob-I can say it better. Baylor should be a victory, it's homecoming after all. 4-2 Might get something out of K-State, in fact I say we beat them. Snyder doesn't have everything he needs to get Sproules out there. Darryl's all they have. I see that as a victory. 5-2 Mizzou will be a challenge, but they aren't as good as we looked bad tonight. (MU 3-0 early in the second quarter) 6-2 Iowa State should be a roll, no matter what the weather is. BTW the Ice Fishing Lake Coast offense will be challenged in this game. 7-2 Oklahoma-well, honestly it's going to be ugly. I'm not going to school on Monday to face my students after this game. 7-3, and luckily they won't throw an extra loss on us because it will be awful. Colorado-They haven't impressed me. Sure they are the Buffaloes, but Barnett undercoaches in big games worse than Callahan does. You heard it hear first, Nebraska gets a blowout win. 8-3. Second time won't be a charm in the Big XII champ game, Oklahoma or Tech will kill us. (most likely OU!) 8-4. Bowl game-Holiday Bowl game-I can go from Vegas easily. Utah or someone else will challenge us, but Huskers win. 9-4. At worst we could go 6-5 (I agree. But this is a Huskerboard, and last time I was in Nebraska, Huskers were eternally optomistic. Bouncing back is something that Osborne helped us learn real well in the late 70's and the 80's.) The biggest question is who is the starting quarterback going into Oklahoma. Beau Davis is our number two now. What's the status of Jordan Adams? Did he disappear from Lincoln like a redshirtted wingback? If he's still in the mix, I think he closes the season at QB for us. Dreading the overplaying of "Boomer Sooner" in November, Huskerebel
  20. We haven't had a good or great recruiting class for a few years now. Frank should receive credit for our losses on his record each time we get edged or clobbered this year. Bill can do the job, but are we willing to wait for the job to be done? Stay tuned to As The Corn Coast Turns.
  21. Rest assured that the sun will come up. And Bill will be on TV, explaining it all away. He better take the flack himself and leave the players out of it. Yes, they got their butts whipped by a more talented team. Let's see that may happen at K-State, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Colorado yet this season. We lose those four and no bowl game, not even the Humanitarian Bowl will take us. (Now that would be interesting-how many Big Red faithful would go to Boise in December?) Each game will continue to be an adventure on offense and thank god that the Techsters have all the speed in the conference corraled in Lubbock (we should at least pray to God and Devaney that't the case.) Oklahoma will humble us in a big way, unless the "O" wakes up and becomes consistent. The defense wore out tonight, and that shouldn't happen again. Will ABC still carry it nationally? I know that Texas A&M-Texas used to be huge and they barely get to be on ESPN now. God, please don't let Nebraska suffer like A&M. Your humble Las Vegas servant, Huskerebel.
  22. Is Jordan Adams anywhere near ready? The Beau and Joe Show appears ready for cancellation.
  23. This season is going to try our souls as Nebraskans were tried pre-Devaney. The program will work, the sellouts will continue, and some of the staff will be gone and we will appreciate it. The Corn Coast Offense will take time, and the personnel will eventually dress in Scarlet and Cream instead of other uniforms. Callahan will lead us to the top, if we give him the time. Beau Davis made some mistakes, just like more notable frosh QB's like Tennessee's Ainge did earlier in the season. Tonight the fans of Ol' Rocky Top are singing his praises. Time heals most wounds, even in Nebraska! Stay the course Bill!
  24. Dittos from Vegas! Pellini would have resigned if he had allowed 70 points to anyone. Tech kept up the pressure and even though we were a top five defense coming in, offensive pressure will always find a way. Not taking Bo at the top spot could come back to haunt The AD. I thought that UNLV looked terrible against Air Force a few weeks ago. Now they are on a two game win streak. (Robinson took the pressure off of them.) The Blackshirts lost them tonight. Baylor is giving Missouri trouble, and will probably be a thorn in NU's side next Saturday. Hopefully their effort will contain Baylor and get the season headed in the right direction. This season is a transition from the old ways to the new, but it's going to hurt seeing more losses mount up over the season. This is only the beginning of the pain. Luckily Nebraska and Nevada are both landlocked and jumping from a sinking ship isn't an option. GO BIG RED!
  25. Not so sure that Solich will even get a look at UNLV. Hamrick wants a wide open attack. After tonight's game, maybe UNLV will want Callahan. Solich could then go back to Nebraska. Seriously, Solich will end up with a great job, and do a mediocre job of managing the talent and retire in a few years. He's a great assistant, but head coaching isn't his forte. As for Nebraska-Texas Tech, I'll post on that in another forum. Still faithful to Scarlet and Cream, Huskerebel
