  1. This just proves that ABC is biased against Nebraska, never looking at things from Nebraska's point of view.
  2. Drifting into the top 25 for two or three weeks, as they did a few of those seasons, does not make for a perennial top 25 team. I'm not saying it has to be a consecutive streak week, but it should be clearly more weeks than not.
  3. I'll enjoy sticking it to Fowler again. He puts on an unbiased act, but can't always hide the smirk or snide remark about Nebraska. And he has such a grasp on reality about Colorado. Last year when gameday did a piece on their woes, he talked about what a shock it was for a program that he claimed was "perennially in the top 25". In truth, it had been about 1/2 the time or less, no matter how far you went back in time, and you had to go back 10 years before you could find a year where they stayed rated the entire year, and only twice since then had they finished ranked. A stretch from '89-'96 does not make it one of the all-time powers. http://www.appollarchive.com/football/index.cfm has the weekly AP rankings. Perennially ranked, indeed.
  4. Good show on Hawkins' part. This is nice to see. I'm getting real tired in general of hearing about fan behavior at college football games.
  5. i understand your frustration here, but a lot of these things are pretty sensitive.. notice how whenever a story is broke on ANY news network for the most part, be it sports, national, world, etc. it is an ANONYMOUS source that has given all the information.. yet we believe it then.. Not at all the same thing. News guys put their reputation on the line. Screw up more than once or twice and they're probably out of a job. We know who it is that's reporting the anonymous source and can usually trust that they've done some fact checking and actually have credible sources. Maybe someone knows who gobigred911 but I have absolutely no idea, and zero faith that they even know any ex-players, or if they do maybe they're getting played by the ex-player. Or maybe gobigred911 likes to feel important and makes up stories to see who he/she can get to believe it? I'm not taking any shots at this person, just saying that I have no reason to believe anything you say, or anyone else who gives us this "inside info". There's a HUGE difference between who's reporting these things. Maybe someone here does have the real inside scoop, but with so many people reporting "OH MY GOD THIS IS THE REAL STORY", and they are all different, why would we take anyone seriously? And think about it--why on earth would Osborne give ex-players the scoop when he is telling everyone nothing is decided? you only believe it because its on tv.. or from someone "popular" or whatever you call it.. say that same news reporter came up to you on the street and told you this.. if you didnt recognize the person you would not believe them.. plain and simple.. so you do not know who these people are and who their sources are, and whether or not they have reasons to not give names.. for all we know these sources are putting their very jobs on the line by saying anything.. the point is, telling these people they are all bullsh#t unless they give you names of people is wrong.. dont be an :asshat and blow off everyone just becuase they don't meet your specific demands... If Sipple or whoever puts this in print or on the air, their credibility is on the line. If it's a wild rumor that doesn't pan out, they could lose their job, especially if it happens more than a time or two. You can't be wrong often and keep people listening. I don't listen to 590 at all, but I hear Matt Perrault's been pretty loose with the rumors. How long do you think he'll last? If the guy tells me on the street, I figure if he doesn't believe it enough to put it on the air or in the paper, so it ain't worth that much. If it doesn't pan out for gobigred911, he just gets another alias and posts a new rumor. Is that too complicated for you to understand? I'm going to leave this subthread to you drama queens. Have fun with it. Seriously, if that entertains you, have at it. I'll just wait until I hear what Osborne has to say about it.

  7. Completely agree. Osborne either hasn't 100% made up his mind, or he has and isn't telling anyone. He's not spilling the beans and then telling the press he really hasn't decided. I would believe, but don't know for sure, that Callahan is probably getting some pretty strong signals from the "higher-ups" one way or another. The thing is, one of these rumors will be correct, purely by chance, and someone will proclaim themselves to be the next Jeanne Dixon. If there wasn't the future of Nebraska football at stake, I'd love to see someone who hasn't even been mentioned as the coach, just so everyone will be wrong. Like maybe Cosgrove being elevated to head coach.
  8. I'm all for playoffs, by the way. I just think the conference championship helps us about as often as it hurts in this system. Don't go into it whining about how you might lose. Instead take it as another big win.
  9. And it gave us a championship in 97. That 54-14 win over A&M moved us to within striking distance of Michigan, after the very close call with Colorado. Oregon would've loved another good game in 2001, I'll bet.
  10. If you're of a notion to spend more time, I'd like to see more on the specific wins and losses of each conference (OOC games), and what their records are vs non-BCS teams (games that probably should not be lost). I think I'd put the Pac 10 closer to the SEC than to the Big 12. Cal over Tennessee and Oregon slamming Michigan, plus USC over Nebraska and ASU over CU were all pretty impressive. What did happen to Cal? Talk about an underachieving team! I'm putting the Big 12 closer to the ACC. Miami loses to OU big, but pounds A&M. Nebraska over Wake, but FSU over CU. Missouri over Illinois is the biggest out of conference win of any of them, probably tilts it to the Big 12. Completely agree that the Big 10 proved absolutely nothing out of conference, including 2 losses to D1AA teams and giving up Duke's only win (Norhtwestern), and Iowa's losses to Western Michigan and Iowa State. I'd put them last, behind the Big East.
  11. The Gator must take a Big 12 team twice in four years, starting from last year when they did not take one. When they don't take a Big 12 team, the Sun bowl must. Read http://www.big12sports.com/sports/m-footbl...ffiliates.html/ It's kind of tough to predict bowls when you don't even understand which bowls the Big 12 is affiliated with. I've read a couple places that the Gator gets the first non-BCS pick if only one Big 12 team gets in the BCS, but fall behind the Cotton and Holiday Bowls when the Big 12 gets two teams. I don't know why this is, I guess they were counting on the Big 12 not getting a 2nd BCS game in two of those years but they passed last year. But the Big 12 site doesn't mention the Gator Bowl ever being ahead of the Cotton and Holiday so I don't know for sure what is true. There's a certain amount of "behind the curtains" dealings between the bowls, I think.
  12. But would they think UT was a better draw than OU? I assumed it was a wash in terms of draw and that whichever is ranked higher would go. Is there a precedent for Texas being a bigger draw than Oklahoma? I really don't know. Both "travel well". The Sugar might have the first replacement pick for losing LSU to the championship game, and might snag Texas since it is reasonably close and they'll count on hordes of Longhorn fans to drive in. Or the Fiesta might choose to keep a Big 12 team as it's replacement for KU/MU and pick the highest ranked team as you say. And for Cy and others who cry about all the bowl games, if you don't want to watch these games, don't. I don't see what the problem is with letting other teams get in another couple weeks of practice and another game for their fans to watch. I like watching college football, so shoot me.
  13. It doesn't matter where they are ranked as long as they are in the top 14. If a BCS bowl thinks Texas is a better draw than OU, especially if they are close in rankings, OU drops to a non-BCS bowl. The KU/MU loser could even keep both UT and OU out. The top 4 finish order doesn't affect Nebraska's bowl anyway. OU/KU/MU/UT should get the top 4 bowls, it doesn't really matter which order. Tech should get the 5th. (If Okie loses to Okie State, with 2 straight losses maybe OU drops below Tech.) We're competing for the next bowl after that, so we could get the Alamo Bowl, but I think they'll take a more local team (OSU or A&M), especially if one of them is 7-5. So I'm guessing the Insight Bowl as well.
  14. if the big 12 gets 2 bcs, best case scenario is alamo The Alamo is too ambitious. They are locked into the conference #4/#5 team, and we aren't even close. Let's look at who is bowl eligible in the Big XII, and ahead of us in the pecking order - OU, KU, Mizzou, Texas, Tech, OSU (by virtue of tie-breaker), and A&M (by virtue of tie-breaker). That's 7, so at best we are 8th in the conference. KSU won't go even if they beat Fresno St, because that is the one bowl eligible team that we hold a tie-breaker over. If KU beats Mizzou, then loses to OU/Texas in the championship game, there is a good chance the conference will get their 2nd BCS team with a one-loss KU. This is possible even if Mizzou beats KU, and then loses to the south team. It depends on how far KU falls in the polls after the loss. It is doubtful that if KU wins out that there will be a 2nd BCS berth from the Big XII because that will result in, at best, 2 two-loss teams right behind them in the conference standings. With a single BCS team from the conference, we could be left out, depending on what the Gator Bowl does. They have the option of taking the conference #4 team this year, which could be lucrative to them if it is a good travelling team like Texas or OU, or if Daniels is favored to get the Heisman. I think they will look elsewhere if it is Oklahoma State. There are 7 slots (including the BCS) for Big XII teams. There are two variables here - whether the conference gets two BCS slots or one, and whether the Gator Bowl exercises their option on the conference. Here's the way it looks right now (subject to change without notice the way this football season is going).... BCS (conference #1) OU/Texas or KU/Mizzou Possible BCS At-Large bid - KU Cotton (conference #2) OU/Texas/Mizzou - whoever doesn't win the conference/gets the at-large BCS Holiday (conference #3) OU/Texas/Mizzou Gator (option to take the #4 team) OU/Texas/Mizzou with one BCS slot, OSU (they hold the tie-breaker over Tech to move up in the pecking order) with two Alamo (#4/#5) OU/Texas/Mizzou with one BCS slot and no Gator, OSU with one BCS slot and the Gator takes a team ahead of them, Tech with two BCS slots the Gator taking OSU Insight (#6) OSU with one BCS slot and no Gator, Tech with one BCS slots and OSU going to a higher bowl, A&M with two BCS slots and the Gator taking a team from the conference. Independence (#7) Tech with one BCS slot and no Gator pick, A&M if we only have one BCS slot but the Gator Bowl picks from the conference, the Huskers if the BCS takes two and the Gator takes one Texas (#8) A&M in the worst case scenario (one BCS slot and the Gator picks elsewhere), and we are left out. The Huskers if either the BCS takes two from the conference, or the Gator bowl takes one If we beat CU, there will be at least 8 bowl eligible teams, 9 if KSU wins. There are contracts for 6 slots excluding the BCS. Simple math indicates that if we are 8th best in the conference and only 7 slots are available, our season may be over. There is, however, one other wild card.... Sun (#?) this bowl also has the option to pick from the Big XII. They may chose us if we are left out of the regular tie-ins, or might go with KSU The bottom line is that we need to be rooting for a second BCS bid or the Gator to take one of the teams ahead of us out of the picture.... One and only one of the Sun or Gator must take a Big 12 team. The Big 12 has 7 tie-ins plus one or two BCS bowls. The non-BCS bowls have no requirement to pick teams based on any record or rank. The conference champion must go the Fiesta or championship game, and a second BCS pick must be in the top 14 BCS standings. That's it. No pecking order or tie-breakers.
  15. But remember, it does not matter HOW many spots there are for the big 12 when we are 6-6.. ANY 7-5 team MUST go to a bowl game before ANY 6-6 team is allowed a bid, no matter what the conference affiliations are.. that is something to remember.. i honestly think we'll be fine if we win against colorado.. but ya never know for sure.. Here we go again. Pay attention people. For conference tie-ins, a 6-6 team is in as long as they do not keep a CONFERENCE team with a winning record out. http://www2.ncaa.org/portal/media_and_even..._6and6rule.html
  16. Texas may be the 2nd BCS team, especially if OU loses the Big 12 championship game. I'm almost certain the Big 12 will get a 2nd BCS bowl. Michigan loses ensures that the Big 10 only gets one spot. I don't think the ACC will get a 2nd spot, nor do I think the Big East will. The reason is because it doesn't look to me that any of them will have a 2nd team in the top 14 as required. That means Boise/Hawaii gets one, and one comes out of each of the Pac 10/Big 12/SEC. But there have been so many upsets this year I don't know how it will all end. For one, UConn could still win the Big East and WV could still go an at large. If Boise St beats Hawaii, and Hawaii loses to Washington, both are probably out of the top 16, and I don't know who the last team would be. It may be that the SEC/Big 12/Pac 10 have all of the rest of the top 14 spots and only 2 teams per conference can go in. Who gets the last berth then? No one else would be eligible under the BCS rules. The BCS is famous for not handling all possibilities.
  17. But impeach him if he brings in Buddy Green as his DC. I think Johnson would be a good choice for us. I'm not sure where I'd rank him among Gill, Pelini, Kelly, Muschamp, etc--none of them are returning my calls. But I'd put him in the top 1/2.
  18. My reaction? must wake up....terrible dream....hearing voices....saying that "we moved around well out there"
  19. Kirk Bohls is actually a very decent writer and does not see the world through burnt orange lenses. He's off his gourd on this one though.
  20. Let me put it this way. I think one of the problems in the last few years is that we have some players who don't appreciate what it means to play for Nebraska. I want guys who have either dreamed off running out in the home reds into the sea of red all their lives, or who embrace it when they get here. That's part of the tradition that makes Nebraska great. If we've got guys who need a different uniform for them to get fired up, I don't think they belong at Nebraska. That's my opinion. Besides, blackshirts are a tradition reserved for the defense in practice (when they deserve it). I've heard about the chill that guys get when they are awarded a blackshirt. Does that mean less when it's also a jersey that the entire team that suits up wears every once in awhile? I think it does. And as I've said before, I don't want to adopt some other school's thing of switching up uniforms. I know our uniforms have been tweaked over the years. I remember those awful curlyQ numbers in the late 60s. But we've always been scarlet and cream. Don't mess that up. If you were a Michigan fan, would you say "why don't we change the helmets?" Or a Penn Stater, would you say "How about some bright trim around the numbers, wouldn't that look cool?" Of course not! Same thing here. We are the Big Red. Don't mess that up. I'm sure there wil be a dozen more "I don't get why people don't like this" posts. I've said all I have to say about it.
  21. So in an earlier post you said emphasis was mine to highlight the point. Is this to fire the team up in a big game, or just for the hell of it when we don't need it? Notre Dame's green jerseys worked the first 2-3 times against USC, after that their record has really sucked with them, and they had to pull them out against Army last year to break the green losing streak. It may fire up a team, but after the first hit it doesn't mean squat.
  22. Oregon is gonna go down tonight. Dixon reinjured his knee again, and Ryan Leaf's little bro is in. He looks just like Leaf--the pro version, not the college star.
  23. Good article. Here's another telling line that applies to Nebraska: "The pace of practice is quite a bit slower in the NFL," said USC's Sarkisian, whose team goes "full contact" nearly every day in the preseason and three days a week in-season. "We practice at a very high level. There's a lot of competition going on."
  24. Dont we still yell "Go Big Red" when we are away and wearing our white jerseys? Ha! That's a good one. I can already hear the wheels in the mind trying to come up with a rational retort. All that's going to come out is something like "Well it's still a stupid idea". I didn't think it was worth responding to, but with red trim, red numbers and red pants, you still see a lot of red in the road unis. The red still sticks out. Go Big Red still makes sense. I was just thinking the other week, when I saw some team that changed colors, maybe it was Clemson's purple instead of orange, and thinking about other schools like Miami and Oregon that are confused about what color they wear, and thought how much I liked that Nebraska doesn't stray from the red. ONE TIME, when ND switched jerseys before a USC game and came out in green for the first time (at least in a very long time), it was real cool. Since then, it's worn off. If you think emulating Notre Dame is a good idea, that's your right. My vote is NO.
  25. It would confuse us. Would we stil yell "Go Big Red!"? We don't need gimmicks like this.
