  1. sorry, everytime i see the word "you" directed at something that is a result of something someone posted, it seems to be directed at the person that posted it, no? just the way it works to me.. You said "support your team" wouldn't you then in fact mean to say, students should show up and support their team? or support their peers? or something to that effect? not something that says "your" that is directed at an individual If I didn't quote you then I wasn't talking to you specifically. The students as a whole need to show up and be fighting amongst one another for those tickets. gotcha. just a misunderstanding there then. but i agree completely on that.. nothing else i can do though.... it gets kind of annoying see people do nothing but bash students. Our entire lives we've been talked down upon like we are nothing but little kids, no respect from authority. We're told that as soon as we graduate high school and turn 18 what we say will matter, and people will listen to us. But, still to no avail. Still some people fail to give respect where respect is due. Just because it's a different generation and a different time doesn't mean growing up is easy. Everything has its own difficulties. They may have not had the technology, but we don't have the simplicity and assumed innocence either. There are so many twists and turns to everything. some people actually do understand and respect students, but some just don't..... I completely disagree with that. I'm a college student and I don't feel that I deserve any respect from elders. They have put in their due and I have no problem with them thinking they are wiser than me and not always listening to what I have to say. Respect should be something earned over time not just automatically given out. Maybe people from my generation were just raised differently but I was raised more "old school" than most and absolutely hate when people my age think that they can do whatever they want and the way they always complain about the way older generations treat them. Not saying you personally but people from our generation in general. i can agree with that, but disagree at the same time. how are we supposed to gain respect if they don't listen to us? Our voice has to be heard some how. Look at it politically.... i saw a couple of state county maps for the election last week... i was very interested in things... college towns voted very very heavily for Obama while non-college towns didn't. just generalized there, not absolute. Thats one way our voice was heard. (not specifically mine either, not the place for that). But how else do we earn that respect? Another example i will use is from 4 years ago, those from lincoln may remember the worthless mayor we had.... she was invited to come and speak to the YLL group that year (40 of lincoln and surrounding areas brightest students and those who want to influence the area, etc.) and instead of going through anything political or what it's like to be in office, responsibility, what not, she decides to tell us stories about when she grew up. Uh... yea. Things like that, while it may be an extreme example, just shows me complete disrespect for our generation... Now, i have seen many people that are like "hey you dumb f**kin blue hair wtf do u think your doin you dumb f**kin stupid pile of s**t.." and yea, thats bs. Uncalled for, doesn't deserve respect... but i guess i just distinguish between that, as im sure you do. I can't sit here and not reply to this. I just can't. For starters, I don't know you or your dad, and I have no idea what your dad does or what you're studying. But if you honestly think your dad didn't sleep on weekends, I have some land in Florida for you. I went to college for almost ten years (don't laugh - the last 6 were in grad school) and I don't know a single person who only slept for 2-3 hours a night. I hear things like that and the person that says them immediately loses all credibility. And you talk about wanting respect and wanting people to listen to you - well, take a look back at your posts and ask yourself after re-reading them why we should listen. You may very well be an intelligent and well-spoken person, but your posts absolutely come across as whiny and with a sense of entitlement (I'd go back and grab some quotes but I'm stuck on a laptop and hate the damn joystick mouse thingy). Think about how you will be perceived the next time someone behind you asks you to sit down at a game - you'll get a lot farther with a respectful "I'm standing to support my team - I think the players would appreciate it if we ALL stood up" rather than a smart-a$$ answer. And along with that - do you really have blue hair? You may think I'm sounding like an old fart, but that right there is your first obstacle - right or wrong, older people (actually, just about all people) are going to take some convincing in order to take you seriously if your first impression is blue hair... But the heart of this post is - why didn't the students fill the section? I went to two schools in college, and of the two, only Missouri-Rolla had a football team (if you can call it that). One of the biggest regrets I have is not going to a school with a BIG football stadium I could come to Saturdays. I missed a lot because of that. That's something not everyone gets a chance to do. And even though Neb is down right now, this will be their 4th bowl in the 6 years that any undergrad should be there for - having a winning team is even more of a privelage (can't spell tonight). There is no reason - none - that you shouldn't fill the student section. Repeat - none. Especially in a game as big as Saturday's was. And I imagine Husker Dan's Army over at Huskerpedia would gladly help you through any red tape to donate or sell your tickets to a veteran.
  2. Well, i have been saying it all year, and saying Mizzou would win this year, whihc sadly looks to be right. We played a lot of young guys in Lincoln, they will get better, and other than losing some interior lineman and a few good LBs, we are mostly back. Our may opponents are a Maclin (proabbly) and Daniel free Mizzou and you all. I think we are good enough to beat you in Lawrence next year, but it should be a good game. We will see, we have a little strak against you in Lawrence, as you may know. Isn't Maclin a true soph? Don't you have to be 3 years out of HS in order to be drafted? I though Clarett lost that lawsuit... Oh, yes, and Neb will be even better next year. Watch out...
  3. So which is it? And I think the negativity that gets to people is the "it's impossible" "there's no way we can beat these guys" "I can't think of a single reason for it to happen" type of attitude. I heard it all winter - we're so far behind MU, KU, CU, we can't possibly compete for 3-4 years, blah, blah, blah. Thinking we'll lose and thinking it's impossible to win are two different things...
  4. So like... one out of a hundred? I'd say more like one out of a million ... So you're telling me there's a chance... YEAH!!! I read ya... Wait a minute...what was all that 'one in a million' talk? And I think skersfan should be forced to rename himself "Negative Nancy". I'm glad you don't actually play or coach on the team. We'd go 0-11 every year, since you apparently don't think we're good enough.
  5. Just stay away from the mushroom bacon cheeseburger...
  6. I think the 5% thing is for medical redshirts. I believe once a guy is on the field for even a single play he's burned his redshirt. Like what's-his-name coming in and throwing one pass against KSU in '05.
  7. What penalty? There is no rule change on this. See here: http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/season_...es_changes.html Many bones were thrown, both during the tunnel walk and during the game, and not one penalty was assessed because of it. I think someone's mistaken about some new penalty rule...
  8. Watching him at the game he still wasn't hitting the holes very hard and fast. Now he did let the plays develop a few times which WAS good. However, there were times when he was tap dancing behind the line and not just getting through the hole. What hole? From what I saw, there wasn't much room for any of those guys to run...
  9. hindsight is always 20/20. nebraska went with roger's son terry and turned down barry freakin' sanders. just *imagine* what nebraska could have been like with sanders in scarlet and cream. did callahan turn londen down because he didn't have the potential or didn't have the room? was he offered a walk on? i dunno. thing is, osborne did the 'right' thing and gave terry rogers a shot that cost sanders a spot on the team. callahan did the 'wrong' thing by not paying attention to heredity, looked solely at over-all talent and now londen is looking at nebraska from the outside going in. coulda. shoulda. woulda. it's all water under the bridge now. and gameday cannot come soon enough. True, yes, agree, and totally. BUT...call the guy back. Takes about a minute. "Sorry, Irving, your kid looks pretty darn good, but we think we have some guys with more talent coming in. Thanks for the tape and I hope your kid finds a school that's the right fit. Go Eagles." How hard is that? Disrespecting former players and pi$$ing on the tradition of the program was no small part of what got him fired. Hopefully he remembers things like this when Joe Namath calls.
  10. Where does all this "no talent" talk come from? If Callahan did one thing well, it was recruit. He got a LOT of talented players here and that talent didn't dissappear overnight just because the team quit. THAT was the problem with last year's team, NOT a lack of talent. Yes, they quit and you said it - Pelini wasn't dealing with a team that quit the last time he was here and he won't be this year - BECAUSE HE WON'T LET THEM!!! I wouldn't expect a top ten defense, but I think we'll all be a bit shocked by the improvement. Remember, he took a #52 defense to #11 (or thereabouts) the last time he took over for an incompetent DC. And remember also, Nebraska beat both KU and Mizzou just two short years ago. And I truly believe they outplayed OU in the Big XII title game that year. How much of these teams are the same this year as then? Don't think the talent advantage has swung so enormously in those two years. Nebraka's fallen behind, but not by as much as last year's results would indicate.
  11. Didn't Cally recruit about 100 receivers? I seem to remember that being the case, although with Swift and Peterson as the senior guys now I'm wondering if my memory is a bit blurry... At any rate, the kid is 5'9", so the fact that he didn't get a scholarship offer maybe shouldn't really be a mark against Cally. My big problem here is that Cally never even called Fryar back. And he even coached in Philly for two years while Irving was playing there. I mean, he didn't even pick up the phone to call one of his own former players! What a d*ck.
  12. Caught him on an old Scoobie Doo episode a couple days ago...
  13. Hopefully at least watching it - I'm locked into RCN at my apartment in Boston and can't get the pay-per-view and haven't found anyone here (yet) that's playing it. Damn east coast...
  14. Please keep us updated on this and we'll try to do whatever we can to help. Any updates on where to watch in Boston? I just moved here from SoCal and have heard that the season opener this Saturday may or may not be available on different cable companies and I'd really like to see Pelini's debut.
  15. Je$u$ Chri$t, do I have to do this again? Midway 2nd quarter: NU 21; KU 28 ----- After that: 48-18 Halftime: NU 35; CU 24 ----- After that: 41-16 Final: NU 73; KSU 31 ----- After that: xx NU points (average allowed) / NU yards (average allowed) KU: 39 (16.0) / 484 (318.3) CU: 51 (29.4) / 610 (389.4) KSU: 73 (30.8) / 702 (400.6) Yes, Neb was playing from behind for most of the KU game and some of the CU game. But that's when the offense STRUGGLED, not when it scored all its points. In fact, they put up the majority of their points in those two games while the game was still very much in doubt. And while Neb may have been playing against average defenses in Joey Ganz's games (KU, by the way, had the #5 scoring defense and #14 total defense), Neb hit the average number points those teams allowed BY HALFTIME, so even if they were average defenses, Neb obviously put up numbers that were well above average. Plus, the only team that outscored Neb against any of those three teams was the 55 Mizzou hung on Colorado, so we also know that Neb had better offensive days against those three teams than just about everyone else. And the offense put up 163 points and almost 1800 yards in 3 games, but didn't roll? What would you consider "rolling"? Would they have hit 100 agaisnt KSU? How about 1000 yards?
  16. The NFL doesn't want to do this - it costs money that they don't want to spend, and don't need to, as long as they have the NCAA to develop players. Look at the Maurice Clarett thing - why do you think the NFL fought so hard when he sued them? If he won, then players could enter the NFL draft whenever they wanted and the NFL would lose their FREE player development system. It's also why the NBA recently put in an age minimum - they got tired of drafting raw skill kids right out of HS and having to develop them. And setting up a REAL minor league WILL mess up YOUR college football. Just look at college baseball. It's nowhere NEAR college football or basketball in terms of popularity, simply because there is no REAL minor league in football or basketball.
  17. Agree 100% That's my point about coaching - I have to believe the new staff will get vastly more out of this team's talent than the previous staff. I think someone said this on another thread, but it's easier to switch defensive schemes than offense, so switching up the defense won't be too bad. And since the offense was pretty good and won't change much, I don't think the learning curve should be that bad on offense, either. Disagree. MU sure looks good, but with half a defense Nebraska can hang with Kansas and Colorado. Again, this is where better coaching will help. Although we can't expect a National Title in the first year or two, or even a conference title, I just don't think NU is that far behind and will at least compete next year, and if they do win a conference or BigXII North title I would call it a "turnaround" more than "turning on a dime". And KU hasn't done anything since about 1995, so I'd say they pretty much turned on a dime. I certainly agree with that as well.
  18. Midway 2nd quarter: NU 21; KU 28 ----- After that: 48-18 Halftime: NU 35; CU 24 ----- After that: 41-16 Final: NU 73; KSU 31 ----- After that: xx Nebraska was way behind when they scored most of their points? WTF? It sure seems like the other teams were the ones scoring most of their points in a blowout. And I guess it wasn't too clear, but my comment on the offense only concerned the Joey Ganz games (which is what this thread is about). NU scored 163 points (!!) in those games, and were still in them for 129 of those points. Psuedo-prevent defense? That's pretty stupid when you're down 11 at half time or are getting blown out. I'll concede that NU is behind (hell, they lost the games), but this defeatist attitude stinks and I just can't understand suggestions that we need 3-4 years in order to compete again. I'll still contend that if NU's defense could stop ANYONE that the KU game (and the entire 2007 season in general) would have gone much differently than 5-7. Bo Pelini took a #54 defense in 2002 and, using mostly the same players, brought them up to #11 in 2003. Coz then took them back to #53 (or thereabouts). What does that say about Pelini's coaching ability? You don't think he can take these guys and get them up to top 50? That's not too much to ask at all. I mean, top 50!! How many fewer points does that amount to? Most of the offense is coming back, and it seemed to only get better with Watson behind the wheel, so a dropoff in scoring shouldn't happen. So seriously, how far behind MU and KU are we REALLY? What about Colorado? And don't all three of those teams come to Lincoln next year? How many points is that worth? Aren't we just ONE YEAR REMOVED from beating all three of these teams? Why the defeatest attitude? Why are we conceding that we're SO FAR behind?
  19. Can somebody please explain this attitude NU fans seem to have regarding how low our program has fallen and how it's going to take years to rebuild because the cupboard is so bare? Aren't we one year removed from playing for the conference title? I felt like we outplayed both OU and Auburn at the end of last year and I always heard about how great Callahan recruited, but all of a sudden we've fallen so hard that we have to expect to "rebuild" and "fall on hard times" before we can expect to win again? Until the MU and OSU games this year I thought NU was still on the rise, not going through a 10 year spell of crappiness after a big scandal a-la OU in the '90s. This "rebuilding" attitude sucks and is horrible - that will only lead to a sustained attitude of mediocrity. It's THAT attitude that is the FIRST thing that needs to go and if Ganz can help NU win next year and get back some swagger and confidence, then he needs to start. Period. How many more games would NU have won this year with even a semblance of defense? I honestly think that Texas, KU, and CU would have been wins if NU's D had been even remotely good (look at how many points NU scored in those games). Weren't we ahead of CU at halftime? Are they really THAT much better? Didn't we go toe-to-toe with KU until our defense just rolled over? Don't you think a Pelini coached defense could have stopped KU's offense a few times out of 11? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the cupboard being so bare, and I don't think NU's talent level and overall program has fallen so far that any "rebuilding" is necessary and if there's a defense next year (and I think we all know what Bo can do on defense) that can go along with the numbers Ganz and the offense are capable of putting up (18 total TDs and 1400+ passing yards in only 3 games) then why should NU have to settle for anything? Why can't they EXPECT to WIN? Why do we need to start "rebuilding" and conceding whole seasons before we can get better?
  20. I've always felt the ideal job for him is an OC in the NFL. He knows his football, his business-like, corporate manner wouldn't be such a bad fit in the NFL, if his team quits on him the HC can help sort it out, and as an OC he wouldn't have to do anything on defense, which he seems to just ignore anyways.
  21. When Jim Grobe says he wants to hire his own staff, you say "whatever you want" and close the deal. Can anybody on this board tell me what he's talking about here? I've been in Cali until a week ago, so I'm a bit removed, but I've tried to follow this as much as I can and it seems to me like this dude is just making $h!+ up. Is he really saying that TO offered the job to Grobe, and when Grobe said "I'll take it, but these dudes have to be my assistants" TO said, "Sorry." That seems pretty stupid to me...
  22. Joey Ganz only started against KU, KSU, and CU. Here's his yardage totals against those 3 teams, along with those from the other QBs you mentioned as well as the average passing yards yielded by each team (play along here, I'm bored): Ganz: 405, 510, 484 Bradford: x, x, 112 Daniel: 361, 284, 421 McCoy: x, 200, x Harrell: x, x, 431 Reesing: x, 267, 153 Robinson: 276, 181, x McGee: 244, x, x Hawkins: 287, 223, x Freeman: 305, x, 214 KU: 227 KSU: 259 CU: 262 Joey also threw for 15TDs (HOLY SH*T!!!) in those 3 games and had 66 yards and 3 TDs rushing. Granted, this is very unscientific (small sample size; I could've used a better stat such as QB rating) and doesn't take into account several relevent factors (running game (or lack thereof), NU's D being so bad that the other team scored real quick and gave NU a ton of possessions, etc.) nor does it promise to be a predictor of future success (Gansz will lose his favorite weapon in Mo and possibly also NU's leader in receptions in Lucky and who knows what tweaks Watson is planning), but note that Joey out-threw all of these guys, including Air Raid man Harrell. It's a HUGE stretch to even suggest Joey for Heisman (when did we pass out the Kool Aid?), but don't count him out amongst the Big XII guys. He's been in the system for 4 years now, so the argument that these guys have a head start on him is overrated. I mean, he's older than Bradford, McCoy, Reesing, and Freeman, although all of them have game experience on him. Sorry about all of the parenthetitical comments...
