  1. For those interested, I am going to watch Rex play this Friday vs. Irving MacArthur High School. His high school, Plano Senior High, comes into the season state ranked at #2 in class 5A (Texas' largest classification). I'll come back with a report for yall if you're interested.
  2. Is TAMU still actively pursuing him, even though they have largely filled their recruit board? Does anyone know how LSU is regarding him? If a player this good wants to commit you make room for him. Right now I think he's a huge aTm lean. That's just what it's like these days for LSU though, they can literally pick which 5* back they want most and push the other aside. I've heard both C-Michael and Richardson have "noncommitable" offers right now. I hope you're right on the heavy A&M lean though. I feel the same. It would be a huge blow losing him especially after losing Cody Green who was virtually a lock to A&M for over a year.
  3. Is TAMU still actively pursuing him, even though they have largely filled their recruit board? Does anyone know how LSU is regarding him? Chances are looking good that he is A&M bound. He came out publicly and announced he will be making his decision between A&M and L$U by August 29th, his first game. He said he wanted to wait for the new rivals rankings to come out before he committed. Hopefully, if he committed to us, it will bring us added pub since he is now a 5*. People are believing it's A&M b/c he has turned down multiple opportunities in the past month to go visit and workout with LSU. In fact, it is rumored that current LSU 5* QB commit Russell Shepard offered to take C-Mike to Baton Rouge and he turned it down. On top of all that, it's rumored that CM has a "noncommitable" offer right now. Basically, even if he wanted to commit to LSU, he couldn't. More reasons why people are saying he's going to A&M is because LSU is actively recruiting Trent Richardson, 5* RB from Fla. Not to mention the fact that maybe the best back in the country for next years class, Lache Seastrunk from Temple, TX, seems to be an LSU lock. I believe he is originally from Louisianna. All those things I stated could hurt LSU in C-Mike's courtship. Anyways, it looks good for A&M as of right now. It also bodes well for us that he has committed to A&M twice in the past year.
  4. Just FYI, Michael got his 5* status today and moved up to #23 in the country.
  5. Wasn't last year "the team"...and the year before that...and the year befo...? Well, you get the picture. That's just from what Tech fans say. It's always going to be their year according to them. It's just never been their year. Well, this is truly their year. If it doesn't happen this year, IT NEVER WILL.
  6. Coming from an alum of a school from the Southwest Conference, let me tell you a little history on Texas Tech... Since 1955, they haven't won an outright conference championship. The last outright conference title they won came that year (1955) when they won the "Border Conference". They shared just two SWC championships. They never won an outright conference title in the SWC. In order for me, or anyone, to ever choose them to achieve greatness, they will actually have to show it for once. With that said, I don't think they will do it this year. And if they can't win the conference this year, they never will. This is by far the best team they have ever fielded. Unfortunately for them, they have OU IN Norman. If they somehow don't find a way to choke it off before then, they will in this game.
  7. Isn't Oku coming to that game? A rocking Memorial will do wonders in the recruitment of him. BIG game! IMO this is a huge game for Bo especially. The 'skers don't have to win but they must have a good showing.
  8. Axl, Please, I'm a bigger Husker fan than probably 99% of the fanbase. I have more connections to NU than most of yall do. Heck, my mom cheered at Nebraska during the Johnny Rodgers era and went to all sorts of functions at Dr. Tom's house whom yall circle jerk over. It would be one thing if I followed Nebraska because they were so good when I was growing up. I followed them because I was born wearing Red in all my baby pictures and spent every Christmas of my life in Nebraska. I ultimately chose A&M over a full-ride to NU because it's simply a better school. I don't believe that should make me less of a fan because of that. That was the toughest decision of my life. I'm not some fair weather fan with no connections to the university like so many Longhorn fans are here in Texas. They just like them because they are good.
  9. You've said the word "us" when referring to the Aggies and "we" when referring to the Huskers. What exactly are you? I'm thinking in the world of college football, you need to pick an allegiance. Haha, sorry bout that, I need a signature explaining my reason for being here... I'm a Husker fan first and foremost. That's what I grew up on and both parents went to NU. All of my family is from Nebraska. Despite my moniker, I'm probably one of the biggest Nebraska fans you've ever met. I ended up choosing A&M to go to school because it was a better choice for me at the time. So in conclusion, I am both a Husker and an Aggie.
  10. Man I really want to see this guy in RED
  11. Sherman inherited a team that played in a bowl game last year and beat Texas. For some kids that was the only game that mattered. I'm pretty sure Sherman hired Pelini at Green Bay if none of you are Green Bay fans like I am. They both started at the Bay in 2000. But as some have alluded to, I'd find it much easier to be a former NFL Head Coach who runs a school's football program in Texas than be someone who worked for him who runs a school's football program in a low-populous state. As far as commitments and winning, look at Wisconsin. Brand new no-name coach and terrible commitment records, they have only 1 more 4star than us with the same number of recruits. I'm fairly certain they have been beating ass in the Big Ten without their blue-chippers. Hell P.J. Hill was a 2star recruit an had a breakout freshman season. I wouldn't worry too much, Bo knows what he's doing. The big 11 is terrible that's probably why
  12. Sherman inherited a team that played in a bowl game last year and beat Texas. For some kids that was the only game that mattered. Eh, believe it or not, the UT-A&M means very little down here in the recruiting world. It's whichever team has done the most lately and that has been Texas which is why they outrecruit us almost every year. UT dominates recruiting now like we did in our glory years of the 80's and 90's. Not to mention the fact that the two schools are VASTLY different. You either grow up a horn or an aggie here in Texas.

  14. I'm just a little disappointed the Pelini hire didn't create a huge buzz in the recruiting at NU like I thought it would. Like yall have said, there are still a bunch of prospects left on the board and hopefully we can land them!
  15. There are also 10x more 3 stars than 4 or 5 stars. Of course you are going to have some 3 stars outperform 4/5 stars when you have that large of a difference in numbers. BC's WCO worked just fine. The defense is what killed NU.
  16. Well then you answered your question didn't you? How can you expect a guy who started in December to pick up athletes who have already been holding offers from other schools for longer than 4 months? Many of the best will have already committed before he even got hired. At this point Nebraska has the same number of commits as Illinois. I'll start worrying if 2 guys become the norm and not the exception in this class. Sherman started at A&M in December just as Pelini did
  17. I guess the reason for my concern is that usually when a new coach is coming into a program, especially a high profile coach, there is alot of buzz around a program and it causes a surge in top recruiting. Especially at top flight schools such as Nebraska. The only recruit who is truly nameworthy is Cody Green and even he likely would not have made it there had it not been for the depth situation at A&M which he saw was less favorable than NU. Another reason why I am concerned is the fact that this isn't 5-10 years ago when recruiting lasted all the way til signing day. In Texas nowadays, most of the recruits are snatched up by the time the season even starts. Of the top 25 players in Texas, only 5 are still uncommitted. Of those, maybe 1 or 2 will still be left uncommitted by summers end. Madcat- I know coaching is a reason why the same teams are always in the top 15-20. But those coaches can't do anything without top flight recruits. Any coach will say that getting top recruits to come in is #1 when it comes to winning. Kansas has arguably one of the best coaches in CFB and they will never be a great program unless they can recruit. Same goes for Texas Tech. They get all the guys Texas, A&M, OU, OSU and LSU don't want. Most of the guys tech gets don't even recieve offers from those schools I mentioned. 4 and 5* players are just better players, period. More size, more speed. I think Dr. Tom was a great coach but I even he would tell you the reason NU was so successful for so many years was because he had HUGE OLman and incredible RB's and QB's. A village idiot can coach a team to 10+ wins per year if you have great athletes.
  18. It sucks for the fan base who put way too much emphasis on rankings. Pure athleticism is all that's measured, and that at a high school level. Remember those walk-ons Nebraska is famous for? Yeah, guess how many stars they had. Now oodles of them are playing in the NFL. I think stars are more for the fans than the coaches. A coach sits down and says, "Okay, we need player X so he can fit into system Z. The basic characteristics we're looking for are this, this, and this." Since speed and size are always a factor, the star rankings more or less will point to guys we're probably looking for, but that doesn't necessarily mean that a well-coached three star is any worse off than a five star blue chipper. Also, the recruiting season is far from over. Those blue chippers with fifty offers have to see Nebraska on the field with a whiff of success before they starting thinking, "Yeah, that's the way to go." The rankings aren't far off when looking at talent. That's why the highest ranking players on Rivals are usually the ones with the most/best offers. It's not a fluke that by and large, the teams finishing in the top 15 in recruiting year in and out are also in the top 15-25 in the polls at the end of the year. Those players earn those rankings for a reason.
  19. With the Bo Pelini era now officially underway, aren't yall surprised at the lack of "blue-chip- committments? Rivals 4* rankings cut off at 5.8. Anything below that is 3* and below. Nebraska has only 2 guys out of their 10 committments with a 5.7 ranking or higher. 4* Cody Green 5.8 3* Dontrayevous Robinson 5.7 Don't get me wrong, I like the guys we have. But to compete for championships like the 90's again, we need bluechips. So what gives?
  20. Hasn't done Florida State a damn bit of good. Miami's class of 2005 has been something of a disappoint too. I think it stands to reason that 3 years of stellar recruiting for ND will pay off. The sheer athleticism alone will win games. The rest is coaching. Bottom line: you won't win anything if you don't have the recruits. I don't care if Lombardi came back and coached your team, you're not going to win.
  21. Look at the past 3 recruiting classes for Notre Dame. They have some straight up sick talent on that team that is really going to start making a difference. Last years team was gutted from the previous season when Quinn and Co. left. 2006-#8 class nationally...2-5*'s...10-4*'s 2007-#8 class nationally...1-5*...12-4*'s 2008-#2 class nationally...3-5*'s...16-4*'s A lobotomized psych patient could coach a team with those guns to a top 25 year. Yeah, I guess recruiting is the only thing that matters. Bill, is that you? How can you deny that recruiting IS what matters? There is a reason why there is a correlation between rivals class rankings and the polls at the end of the year. The most talent usually wins. That's just a fact. That's why Nebraska is down. The talent level isn't near what it was.

  23. This is true. The rivalry died with the Big 12. Just think about it. The current freshman class was like 4 or 5 years old when the Big 12 formed. It might be a rivalry in the eyes of older fans but to the current players, it's just another big game. It's only big because OU is so good. Sad, but true. I don't think this is true at all. Sure they were young, but both head coaches know the importance of this game and they preach it to the kids in the week leading up to this game. Plus, you've got kids on each team that grew up in Oklahoma or Nebraska that remeber what this game used to mean and that rubs off on the other players. Is it lopsided yes, but the rivalry is far from dead, just ask the f**king hillbillies in OU. It meant something back in the Big 8 (which none of the current players can remember). I'm 25 and older than any player on either roster and even I have trouble remembering the good ol days of the rivalry. Mostly because the games I do remember of OU-NU were blowouts in NU's favor since OU sucked most of the 90's. Outside of 2000 and 2001, OU-NU games have been nothing for 2 decades dating back to when both teams were competing for national championships year in and out. I think it has turned into more of a mutual respect than a hated rivalry.
