  1. I met Mason and Justin's high school coach at a random St. George Island bar yesterday. He seemed like a nice guy who just wanted to talk football. We argued SEC/BigXII for a while and he finally commented on Mason and Justin. He said "Mason was a helluva player for us, heard Justin got in some trouble a while back...doesn't surprise me too much." Does anyone know if he is still on the team? I think he was playing like 6th string running back, but it's very possible that I missed his exit if it happened?
  2. I don't care if you believe it or not, and honestly I don't even know for sure if it's true. That was just the word in McCollum Hall, and they've been correct more often than not. PLUS...it's only a potential injury report. It's not like I'm speculating about why Cody Glenn was no longer on the team and making personal attacks on a player. Not sure why an injury is such a sensitive topic??? Enlighten me.
  3. Agreed. Not as flashy as a quarterback or receiver, but probably the biggest question mark coming into next season.
  4. I didn't think he'd see the field in '09 anyways. Me nether. But some seem to think he is the Chosen One when it comes to NU Football. An unfortunate symptom of "New Quarterback Recruit Syndrome." How tragic.

  6. Sorry. No link yet as far as I know. Personally, I hope I'm wrong as well. I'd imagine we'll find out for sure today.
  7. Well, the truth is there are alot of rednecks in Nebraska, so Larry is a pretty accurate representation of us. Although I think there are more Tom Osborne types, than Larry the Cable Guy types. We do...but not as many as in the deep south. Wow.
  8. I think he is a great guy...I'd just rather that he not be directly associated with the Huskers. I know the whole redneck thing is all an act on his part, but he certainly furthers Nebraska's already backwoods reputation.
  9. I'd flip OSU and TT. Other than that, that's exactly how I'd predict it will unfold.
  10. If an internet misunderstanding results in humble pie I am sure that we all eat our share daily! No worries.
  11. I don't know if I buy that. I'd be willing to wager that Helu has more total yards and more ypc. Castille just doesn't seem to have the vision that you see in a top-level back, plus he is way too willing to try to go through a guy rather than around him. He did look good on two runs in the Gator Bowl...but he wasn't really running in traffic. There were HUGE holes to run through, and he didn't have to put a move on a guy until he was already 15 yards downfield with a full head of steam. Go back and watch Helu's highlights and tell me who was better overall (running up the middle, pass blocking, pass catching, making moves in traffic, getting the last extra yard out of each run, etc.) I don't think it'd even be close. I don't care who is more productive for us this year, as long as we are getting it done. But Q is going to get alot more carries this year, and I said he has the tools to be the best, not that he would be the best. Helu has 10x better field vision and understands angles much better, but I think Q will be a much improved back this year. But because of his power, speed and agility, I feel that he could be a better all around RB than Helu. Either way, they are going to be a damn good 1-2 punch this year. Agreed.
  12. ....I hope you guys are being sarcastic. You probably are. If not...it's a joke. A fabrication. And a funny one at that.
  13. Glad to hear some old wounds might be healing.

  15. I totally disagree about Q. I know he has had fumble problems, but he has the potential to be the best back in the Big 12. Power, speed, and agility, make him so much more than a short yardage back. I think Mendoza needs to be on the field, but he will not get as many carries as Q. I agree with Huskers forever. A short yardage back doesn't get 125 yards in a bowl game unless the dude has some serious speed. He reminds me a lot of the body style/playing ability of Lawrence Phillips. Q is fast, agile, and a bruiser to anybody that gets in his way. The dude throws linemen off of him like they are styrofoam. Had he been given a few more carries in the Gator Bowl, I bet he would have gone between 150-200 total yards. I also believe he has the tools to be much better than Helu, but we will see. I don't think he has the vision or the moves that Helu does, but he does bring a more physical presence. I think Helu will get the majority of carries, and I think he will thrive.
  16. No you are not. I have watched his tapes many times, and I saw bigtime agility. He running style reminds me alot of Eric Crouch to tell you the truth. I think this kid is too good not to see the field this year. Will someone embed his highlight video, so people can see what kind of athlete we are talking about here. I don't know how to do it, or I would. I don't know about the "too good to not see the field this year." Sounds like another case of the dreaded "Latest and Greatest Syndrome." (see Green, Cody, and Keller, Sam.) He does look good against high school competition (I know, I know Texas 5A) . . . but so does every other 3+ star player. Let them at least play a college down before they are hyped to be the next heisman winner.
  17. Hahahaha. Excellent reference.
  18. http://www.huskerextra.com/articles/2009/0...b8200777743.txt I wonder if this is the other player leaving (that Sipple hinted at).
  19. Hence the question "Where do YOU want to see Burkhead play?"
  20. Here you go. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/...26season%3d2009 Notice particularly where it says "We're not so sure he won't end up playing safety/strong safety." ESPN supposedly has the best evals, if you are into that sort of thing. Next? I'd say there is at least a 50% chance that Burkhead ends up on defense. But that is just as much speculation as you saying he'd never play anywhere besides rb/slot/return.
  21. That's a well thought out post. I agree for the most part. Also, the OLB thing is intriguing. I remember Scout referring to him as a "junk yard dog." Sounds like he might fit well there.
  22. Link: LJS Blog That's too bad. Wonder what happened?
