  1. Does this mean I have to forward my mail? I used to live in Blacksburg... now I apparently live in Blackwater.
  2. Shoot, that means I can no longer post anything about the Clemson Kittens...
  3. I just saw Kat Von D (tattoo artist dating Nikki Sixx) wearing a Husker jersey on her show the other day.
  4. Any team overlooking Nebraska this year will go down hard... Losing to you - that can happen. But if we overlook a five-time national champion on the rise we had it coming... I'm sure both teams will be ready to go. Five weeks to go!!!!
  5. Don't kid yourself, VT has a great QB and a stable of running backs that will shoulder this loss. This is the kind of program that can absorb a tough loss like this. Last year VT's offense was pretty young and inexperienced and still managed to take care of business in Lincoln, even after losing Ore. I doubt they'll even be impacted this year either. They just get it done. But, it's still a shame for this kid and I hope he heals well and comes back stronger for next year. Again the Husker nation shows their class! Thanks guys! As you may suspect I am on other message boards and many of the other fan-boards "celebrate" a 20 year old's injuries... I think we will be fine with respect to RBs. Although he is an unbelievable athlete this position is stacked at the moment and may give Williams some serious playing time - starting with Bama. Can't express how impressed I am with your responses to these news. Huskers know what it is like to win NCs so you aren't so "narrow" that you celebrate a surgery-requiring injury of a young kid. Here's to a great season for both our teams and I know that although only one team can be victorious on September 19, both teams are going to kick some serious a throughout the season!!!
  6. I started off wearing my Iowa State hat but got tired of people asking me how the Trojans were going to do this year.... I'm sure they were happy to learn that it was a Cyclone and and not a Trojan that was floating in the pool
  7. Cy, what were you doing walking around with Nebraska hats???? (as for number 3 above).
  8. Haha. I was wondering the same thing since they gave Alabama an "A" for playing us...
  9. Wow. How great to have a solid representative of the Hokie nation on this board. I have been on other Husker boards and the Hokie fans we have there have almost made me embarrassed of being a Hokie. I think most of you visiting Blacksburg in September will experience true fans like hokiestudent. Win or lose, I know you will feel welcome in Blacksburg. As he/she suggests, feel free to contact us should you have questions about your visit. The three days I spent in Lincoln last year were almost unreal in terms of hospitality. In the ACC I have only experienced that kind of kindness at Clemson (did you hear that Killer Cacti?). September 19th can't get here soon enough!!!!
  10. Based on past experience I don't think tickets online would go down too much, even (and God forbid) a VT loss to Bama in the opener. Unless we get blown out at home in week 2 against Marshall I think tickets will remain fairly high. VT fans are loyal and NU is an attractive team to have in town. When we have friends in town they often try to get the tickets outside the stadium on game day and often do better than the prices online. I know that is risky after making the trip from Lincoln, but realistically you may be better off financially. However, with that strategy you are probably guaranteed to stand in the middle of the Hokie fans with all its pros and cons.... On the flip side, game days in Blacksburg are great and if you are willing to make the investment of traveling from NE to VA you probably should secure your ticket well in advance. Not sure if that helped...
  11. I'm sure you all know how I voted... If there was a 40-50 range that would be my choice. Instead I went down to 30-40. I would be extremely disappointed in all of you if the great majority of Husker fans do not expect to beat us in Blacksburg. Myself, on the other hand... I have to be optimistic and believe that we will do what we do with most teams visiting Lane - make them look bad. Day game or night game, it will be one heck of a fight. Your O will have to run the ball on us as we typically don't give up too many plays down the field, especially when it gets loud around here. At the same time, if NU forces us to to throw the ball on every single down you are in a good position (unless your secondary plays like it did early on last year). It will probably be a close game like last year with both teams greatly improved. Sounds like your O is where ours was last year, but with your D being the class of the Big 12 at the moment. I would be extremely happy to get a win against you all, but I think this will go down to the wire. As for the day/night starting time.... This is a 3:30pm eastern time game. We lost one home game in 2006 and one in 2007. One was at 3:30 the other at 7:30. So, I don't think the starting time will affect the outcome of this one. Two classy teams - one will walk away with the victory and the other will still have one heck of a season
  12. Not sure we can compete with you all when it comes to being classy, but we will do our best to be good hosts. Looking forward to having you in Blacksburg.
  13. I don't care if you make it to a game or not. See the glass as half full. As a Huskers fan I would be optimistic as hell. The argument was that you wouldn't make it to Memorial as they expected a massacre.... I think you will lose at Lane, but NU is one hell of a team and I would trade anything in the world to be a husker fan. I am Hokie fan and I will remain one 4 the rest of my life. But I can respect the Huskers 4 all that you are. I just get frustrated to see fans that expect a massacre. Until the game is played, NU is the team to beat in the Big 12.
  14. I'm sure you will be back when the Huskers contend for the conference title and a chance to play for a national championship! Nobody expects you to make it to Lincoln, but to expect your team to be slaughtered months in advance... that sucks. I'm by no stretch of the imagination a Big 12 expert, but I still remember when the Huskers dominated and OU lost to Tulsa and struggled to win 6 games.... Do yourself a favor, do like your fellow Huskers, see the glass half-full or find yourself a team that will be slaughtered. I think Duke needs so football fans, they have won 1 conference game EVER in the ACC and with your mentality you will probably be right every time you predict a game
  15. Win or lose... Being a fan of a team with the history of the Huskers should be enough incentive to go to Lincoln. Be a part of tradition! Enjoying the joy of being a Hokie or Cornhusker has nothing to do with how your team does on one particular day in September or October. I know finances are tight and that making a road-trip is not something everyone can afford. BUT, if you can afford a trip to Memorial to watch the Huskers battle it out with the Big 12 champions I would strongly suggest that you do so. Memory for life for sure. Without mentioning names from my conference (Boston C, Miami...), there are programs with history that will never reach the Huskers to the knees when it comes to being proud. I think what makes the Huskers so unique (and why I check your board almost daily) is that you have been proud of your team even during times of struggle. My love for my team runs so deep that my ex wife would never understand ("why do you spend the student loans to travel to away games?"), but at the same time I understand your frustration when you witness a few years of bad coaching/management. For that reason alone I think you should make the trip to Lincoln, win or lose. You will find 85,000+ who are equally excited about football and the Huskers....
  16. Come on guys.... Suck it up and get your as*es to Lincoln. If you are a true Husker fan you need to stand by your team no matter how the season goes. That's what 85,000+ Husker fans did last year when we were in town. I can't even count how many of you came over and thanked us for coming after the game. We even played pool with your fans at some pizza place long into the morning hours. If you're not willing to make the trip and fork up the money to see YOUR team just because you might lose, you might as well find another "hobby". I travel wherever the Hokies play and we see bandwagon fans both in the ACC and elsewhere. That is for sure not the impression I have of Husker fans. I'd rather see my team go through a "massacre" (as we did at LSU two years ago), than to miss a beat of Hokie-football. Your sell-out streak dating back 40 years (or something like that) is proof enough to me that you all are dedicated fans. Thinking back at the atmosphere in Lincoln still makes me smile, and I hope you all feel the same when you visit Lane on September 19. Do yourself a favor and make the trip. Classy fans, great team, and a great town. Hey, I don't see how you can go wrong! You may even beat the Sooners
  17. Haha. I couldn't agree more!! Some of those issues you mention are going to do a lot more damage than drinking at age 18 as long as they leave their car-keys at home. As Hukser says, that is the trick... We need to find a way to keep those who receive the privilege of both driving and drinking from exercising those rights at the same time (or anyone else for that matter).
  18. Couldn't agree more. Hayes should never be mentioned with greatness. I'm sure Clemson fans despise this guy, but I just cannot imagine accepting that behavior from any coach. Being involved and passionate about the game is quite different than punching a player... I just cannot believe that this guys is on the list 30 years later...
  19. I live in Virginia and I am Husker fan 364 days/year, just not on September 19. I would now like to call KillerCacti out as a SC Husker fan!
  20. As the game is at 3:30 and you want to be there two hours early you probably should leave Roanoke around noon. In normal traffic it would be 50 mins, but leaving that close to the game I think you will be looking at 80-90 minutes. It will probably be a little stop and go once you exit 81 and get onto 460 which is the road leading into Blacksburg. If I were you I would leave a little earlier just to make sure the parking works OK. As I live within walking distance from Lane I usually don't deal with parking etc, but the only open parking on campus is the Prices Fork lot and I would be surprised if there is anything open that late on game day. If you have a pass you may be OK. If you have the chance to drive in the morning hours you will have no problems.
  21. 1. Missouri lost almost all their play-makers on offense and both their coordinators. 2. The Huskers handled Kansas last year, expect more of the same-even in Lawrence. 3. The game with Colorado was close last year thanks to a bone-head fake field goal call. Overall, the read/assessment was fair and I think that given the Huskers recent history, especially considering with the previous coaching staff, that many sportswriters want to believe in Nebraska again. The Huskers just need to win a "big" game to show the rest of the nation that we're in fact back. And, a win on the road against Va Tech or at home against Oklahoma would fit the bill nicely. Let's stick with beating Oklahoma at home! That would work for both our teams!
  22. Hey - we look forward to having you here in Blacksburg. As others have pointed out - nearest airport is in Roanoke (40 miles north along I-81). If you fly in you can catch the SmartWay bus to Blacksburg from the Roanoke airport (and other places) on a daily basis - $3 each way, but $1 on game-days. You can ask if they give a Husker-discount As for hotels, you can pretty much forget Blacksburg. However, I know there is one hotel with availability in Christiansburg (10 minutes away) with rates around $140/night. Radford (15-20 minutes away) also have rooms around that price. If you stay in Roanoke you will have more options at lower rates, but you will deal with game-day traffic the morning of the game. If you stay there you may want to take the bus as you don't have to deal with parking and you can start your hydration-process earlier and not worry about driving
  23. If the Huskers improve over the next two years to where you all expect them to be, and either OU or UT regress to where they were in the 90s the two divisions are already pretty even. If NU is the class of the north, don't tell me that Missouri, Colorado, or Kansas don't have the potential of being as good as TT or OSU (who I would consider to be second tier in the south). Would you have asked for a realignment on a yearly basis back in the 90s when OU lost to Tulsa, and Texas were happy to win 8 games? Probably not. There is parity in college football and the dominance of the south will most likely end as NU starts showing muscle again. I just don't buy into the "all the money goes to UT" argument. Money does not guarantee success. Notre Dame should be a great example of that....
  24. My favorite Husker moment would be watching the TD when the receiver catches the ball laying on the ground after having "kicked" the ball into the air. Although the play probably wasn't called that way the execution of that play was enough to make me a fan! I'm sure you all know which play I am talking about. My second favorite would be the one where Bo calls the ref a "#@*&" leading to a 15 yard penalty. Can't remember the game but I think it may have been against VT....
  25. Jen, didn't you want to invite the Hogs of Arkansas into your conference? With this swine flu scare I would be concerned having them all over Memorial Stadium...
