  1. That's the plan, but it takes months to develop according to the CDC. Antivirals like tamiflu work, and there's a lot of it, and this is a pretty pie-in-the-sky scenario, but it's a possibility so I thought I'd mention it. This may not be the best discussion topic ever. But it's different, and maybe that's good. I think you (NU) have a greater chance of losing BOTH your first two games, be struck by lightning on your way to the game, and being hit by a Hurricane on your way home than ever catching this virus. I think your 300th sell-out will take place when you expect it
  2. Not to worry Got Carl... if they by error send you tickets for any other sections, there are many opportunities to buy maroon and orange gear once you get to Blacksburg so nobody will notice you until you start asking where to get your Runza
  3. Visitor-section at Lane Stadium is in sections 17, 19, 37, and 39, so if you buy tickets in those sections you will be standing near other Huskers.
  4. OK, I try again since the uniform thread was closed... From an outsider's perspective, NU needs to keep a "traditional" look. When I think of NU I think old-fashion, tough, no-nonsense football. As a "closet" Husker fan I always think of you guys as Midwestern tough guys representing football the way it should be played. Although you went through some tough times (by your own standards) you are back to being a team that all of America can relate to (except for some morons over at ESPN). I want to see red jerseys with white stripes and no "extras". That's Husker football to me. On September 19, however, you may wear pink and purple and designs like Oregon for all I care, I will root against you with all my guts, but by Monday I will be back to respecting you for being a program to which I hope my team will one day be compared.

Speaking of unis, Mr. Hokieluv... Any chance ya'll make a maroon version of the throwbacks and use them as your all the time unis? I Love those. Kille cacti, I hadn't seen you on here for a while. Wondering where you had gone. Oh yes, from what I heard we will do the maroon version of the throwbacks this year and introduce them in one of the first home games, which means either Marshall, NU, or Miami. I do love those jerseys. Since we don't get the honor of playing you until the ACC championship game this year I was hoping we wouldn't break 'em in until we see you in December (gotta love those Clemson fans! - oh, BTW, do you still need a turkey leg?)

  7. If Nebraska did not have a football team, I would most likely be a Virginia Tech fan
  8. Okay here are the problems I have with these picks... 1. The loss at Virginia Tech isn't a given. The Huskers damn near beat the Hokies with a team that committed way too many mental errors. 2. This person is obviously basing the predicted losses to Missouri and Texas Tech based on the past and does not take into account coaching changes (Nebraska) and personnel losses (Missouri and Texas Tech). 3. To assume Nebraska will lose in Lawrence is foolish and probably based on what happened in previous years. Now could this prediction happen? Sure. But I wouldn't count on it. We have finally have a great coaching staff, the team has a better attitude, they practice better and the gameplans are 100% better. Oh and not to mention that this coaching staff can actually game plan in such a way where they can put players in the right spots to make plays. I'm working on my PhD with forecasting as my specialty. Take it from me, using multiple regression can predict just about anything, and many of our models are accurate... on average. However, I really don't think any model can accurately predict what will happen on September 19 in Blacksburg, besides being one heck of a fun day thanks to two great teams and two great fan-bases. Just some food for thought... Before Nebraska played Clemson in the Gator Bowl some site simulated the game 1,000 times and Clemson won between 65-70% of the simulations. I predict that the Huskers will beat twice as many teams from Kansas as from Iowa. I also predict that they will beat twice as many teams from Texas as from Colorado. Finally, my models suggest that the chance of beating a team from the Show Me State is greater than the chance that you will lose to a team from Florida. That's what I can get out of my crystal ball!

  10. I live in Blacksburg and I just flew out of Greensboro (NC). It is a 2.5 hrs drive. Typically cheaper than Roanoke. However, at times you can find fairly cheap flights into Roanoke via Chicago. We flew to KC last year on our way to Lincoln from Roanoke very cheap, but if you plan on renting a car you may want to check the Greensboro fairs as the drive is easy. I would probably be more concerned about hotels at this time as they are hard to come by in B'burg. Staying in Roanoke is not bad (and inexpensive) but give yourself plenty of time to drive on game day.
  11. That's a mighty big "IF"... I seriously don't think that "IF" is quite as big as some think. Va Tech will will tough no doubt but let's keep some perspective here: Nebraska, simply playing their defensive assignments properly, which didn't happen in a lot of cases last season, will result in a much better defense. I look for the the Huskers to win 17-7. HuskerJen, we NEVER score 7 points at Lane.... Do you need a ticket? Would love to help you out, but you need to put up more than 17 to beat us in Blacksburg.... Well Nebraska is just a tad better than your usual home opponents, like James Madison... J/K... P.S. If I had the money to travel to Blacksburg for the game I would take you up on that offer... Haha... JMU is really not that bad of a football program, as is Richmond. However, we haven't played them lately. The big rivalry used to be VPI/VMI, but that changed when Tech went from being one of the worst D1 programs to one of the elite programs under Beamer. I am not even going to compare by beloved Hokies to your Huskers. One of my favorite moments last year was having my picture taken under the banner outside Memorial with the 5 time NC sign. As much as I live and breath by VT football I respect a program like NU for the accomplishments and the way that they have remained classy even during times of trouble. I am excited about you all visiting us in September and I can't wait for that weekend no matter the outcome of the game. I am fairly certain that both teams will have great seasons and that this OOC game will just add spice to our love of the game.

  14. GBR!!! What makes football so much fun (in my opinion) is that there is a fine line between an average season and a "magical year". If the Huskers win the games they should win - I think you know which games I'm talking about - and pull two "upsets" (OU and against us in Blacksburg - gotta give us the home-field advantage) you are a Big 12 championship win away from a magical season. What appears as magical is really taking care of business every Saturday and win games that you should win, and then "over-perform" on a couple of occasions. If your uncertainties work out OK you are at least on the way to a great season, which means you win more games than last year. Good points, but I'm pretty sure a "magical year" still means an NC run for Husker fans. Big 12 Champion is a very nice second. Sorry Huskertim.... I did want to imply a MNC... (or at least playing for it). If you win the games you should win, take care of the upsets and remain undefeated after the conference championship I find it hard to believe that you aren't playing for the national title. My point was that taking care of business and pulling a couple of upsets (including the Big 12 championship) has you right where you want to be. It seems so magical but is of course possible. Being a Hokiefan we have unfortunately not been able to do that besides the 1999 season when we went undefeated and lost to FSU. Besides a string of 10 win seasons we have had a tendency to lose games we should win, while at other times not been able to pull the upsets. A couple of losses a year is clearly above average, but also very close to being magical. Best of luck with your season! Love for your Hokes right back at ya friend. Keep in mind we had 23 9+ win seasons before we struck 3 Nc in 4 years. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Vt is prepared, and your window of opportunity will come. That will be your "magic" year. Huskertim, it is funny that there is a thread going at this time about what team to cheer for if NU no longer had a football team... I think Husker fans have hall the qualities that most football fans look for. Love of the game that goes beyond love of your own team. I love my Hokies to the extent where I spend the fall traveling to far away places to see my team play no matter what, and no where I have I felt more at home than in Lincoln. Even after we won the game did I feel at home with "friends". I hope you feel the same in Blacksburg for those who make the trip. I would love to have Huskers over for a pre-game tailgate at my place. Feel free to send me a message if you want a true Hokie welcome in September.
  15. My thoughts exactly. My thoughts exactly tim, which is why I don't agree with the quoted portion from Hokieluv. Just because you give someone an A now doesn't mean that person doesn't have to work to improve so that in the next session or evaluation period he/she can still get an A. In my experience once you reach a certain level, the bar is raised and you have to improve to try and reach a high grade on the next level. If you want to make the evaluation criteria the same for all of the years, i.e. we expect a Big XII title and BCS game every year or something like that, then ok I would agree on the C level grade. However I think everyone is grading Bo on their expectations and in their minds Bo did a much better than average or a great job, a B or an A. Next year if Bo did the same job, I am sure they would all grade him lower because they all raised their standards. I know exactly what you are saying, and believe me I do not want to say that Bo is a C-level coach. First, I do not know your team well enough, and second, I do not think Bo is an average coach at all. In fact, I'm sure that NU does not want to make the same mistakes as during the BC era, and he would not have been selected unless he could lead your team back to the top of college football. If you use a relative grading criteria (i.e., you will adjust the criteria as the coaches get more experience) I can agree that Bo is probably in the B+/A- range based on his first year. My point was that if an absolute grading scale was used, he is hopefully far off his potential. I teach in college and I would never let my students get away with showing potential and adjust their grades accordingly. From what I understand from reading interviews with Bo, I am fairly certain he holds himself and his team to very high standards. I would not even give him grief over what some of you called "meltdowns" (e.g., Virginia Tech incident when he felt Tyrod Taylor was out of balance). I think that passion will go a long way to help the Huskers become the team they want to be. It may have hurt them there, but in the long-run it is hopefully a good thing to have that passion. Just my thoughts...
  16. ? He motherf***s you?...or he f***s your mother? Either way is confusing, but the second is inevitable. I kid, I kid... P.S- Tyrod Taylor will throw 3 picks in a nail-biter against NU. Still don't know who will win. Have you seen that guys TD-INT ratio? WTF? Have you seen Baylor's Win/Loss record for the last 10 years? WTF?

  19. Based on a 9-4 record and a Bowl win wouldn't you be more pleased if a C+ reflected Bo's performance in his first year, i.e., if he could improve from a C+ to an A, you would probably do away with the four losses and play for a conference title and a MNC. If he's already at an A/A- there's not a whole lot of room for improvement. If BC really did bring in talent (as some of you imply) but was a terrible coach, you will have good things ahead of you if he (Bo) continues a tradition of bringing top talent to Lincoln but improves as a coach. Also, it appears as if both the team and the fan base are really inspired by this coaching change, and that in itself will probably be reflected on the field. I don't know your team well enough to give Bo a grade, but from an outsider's standpoint he is clearly above the average, and more encouraging, there's probably a lot of room for improvement. As I haven't guessed on your record yet, I probably should... I expect you will have two losses (OU, and VT), and a loss in the Big 12 championship game. That will leave you with 3 losses and a Bowl win.
  20. It could've happened last year if it wouldn't have been for those pathetic ACC referees who managed to give Va Tech 30 free and utterly bullsh** yards via two ridiculous personal foul penalties late in the 4th quarter. Haha. Could've happened last year. Sure won't happen this year. I think you are selling us short hokieluv. That is fine, keep underestimating the Huskers and watch the Blackshirts hit Tyrod into the turf. He won't have the freedom he had last year. Caveman and Jen, I have all the respect in the world for the Huskers, both the team and fans!!! I spend more time on this message board than most other teams I visit (Bama, UNC, Miami, FSU) since I respect your program so much. I don't think we will underestimate the Huskers. Do I think we will lose games at home this year? No. Do I think NU will be one heck of a challenge? Absolutely! Anything can happen. Our team will be about more than Tyrod this year. At the same time, I also expect the Huskers to be moving forward, so I am not taking anything for granted.

  22. From a different angle, should we be more excited about beating YOU or Bama? (not saying that either would happen with any certainty). On that note, how are you all doing with respect to tickets? How many Husker fans can we expect?
  23. I can't stand their cocky QB Tyrod Taylor. After watching him showboating in the Orange Bowl, I want Suh and the boys to plant his face in the turf. Of course Mizzou has some bigtime payback comming their way. Orange Bowl?? Ohhhh...your talking about last year's game. Cause KU had him on his back most of the night in 2007. LOL. He looked scared that night. Did you guys see that jerk posing with one hand behind his helmet, and the other sticking the football out as he ran in the endzone. I hate that crap, and thats why they are at the top of my list. Also, it would give us huge confidence before we whip you're sorry jayhawk butt's later in the season So Tyrod is a jerk because he was showing off in the Orange Bowl? I can think of lots of jerks on various teams if that is the criteria. I'm sure he looks forward to NU visiting Lane Stadium to show you his jerky side again. He has never lost a game there! Well, I hope the Huskers are the ones to pop his cherry then. Haha. I like that one I'm sure he will play hard to get even for the nice farm-boys from the Midwest!
