  1. Huskerballz says "Not enough people on here appreciate or are into basketball like they are football. It's almost kinda sad, if you can support one husker sport so passionately, why not all of them?" Look at all the message boards and its the same way. There are only a handfull of regular posters on each, but after that just filler.... Truthfully Husker BB was a non issue for me until last year when the smallest team in the NCAA was getting those wins....made me want to check them out and see the hows of it. After last years performance it became clear that Doc is special.... This team should be very interesting, its so young that as a fan, getting involved with them now will make watching thier growth that much more fun. Nobody has enough time so you choose your relaxation minutes where you get the most relaxation....and the choices are endless. Finding Husker hoops at the right time is also a big part of it. As someone living in Kansas with Kids at KU, i remember when KU's current big man was a frosh, he looked every bit like Diaz and Ubell do now. Today, the guys a monster, and me thinks our young talents can emerge in thier own rights, under Docs system. Holly and Standhardinger are very interesting players, the cupboard is not bare... a bad attitude as in self fullfilling prophesy about this team, will just make the observer look stupid. Here is to progress......let the minutes unfold.
  2. someone with skills needs to bring a properly formated data set over... Season Totals NAME GM MIN FGM FGA FTM FTA 3PM 3PA PTS OFF DEF TOT AST TO STL BLK PF Ryan Anderson 14 347 56 113 33 43 16 47 161 18 51 69 27 28 29 2 31 Brian Diaz 15 336 56 102 16 30 0 0 128 26 39 65 18 20 9 23 28 Sek Henry 15 372 39 96 28 41 12 36 118 14 42 56 40 19 11 7 33 Lance Jeter 15 442 42 94 15 21 11 24 110 12 34 46 60 26 12 4 36 Eshaunte Jones 15 269 39 81 6 10 23 46 107 9 22 31 20 7 10 2 21 Brandon Richardson 13 273 30 70 32 39 13 33 105 3 22 25 29 11 17 1 23 Brandon Ubel 15 273 30 67 24 31 7 14 91 14 15 29 1 25 3 4 21 Quincy Hankins-Cole 13 154 28 51 14 38 0 0 70 16 24 40 7 14 7 2 31 Ray Gallegos 13 222 21 50 8 12 9 23 59 1 25 26 13 3 6 4 16 Myles Holley 9 95 16 32 9 19 0 4 41 6 21 27 5 5 2 3 8 Toney McCray 3 56 8 15 1 2 2 4 19 2 10 12 2 3 1 0 3 Adrien Coleman 6 58 5 10 3 4 2 2 15 0 4 4 0 8 3 0 4 Ben Nelson 11 41 2 7 6 14 0 0 10 2 7 9 1 2 2 1 8 Matt Karn 9 32 3 5 0 0 3 5 9 0 2 2 3 2 1 0 3 Mike Fox 8 27 1 2 5 6 0 0 7 3 1 4 0 2 1 0 1 Team Totals 15 - 376 795 200 310 98 238 1050 147 350 497 226 178 114 53 267
  3. Good win last night, Diaz did an excellent job guarding Sullivan, did not meet his season averages. Strong performance Skers only had 6 turnovers while turning over SEL 20 times... Post game Doc gave us some indications on his thinking about CS. Doc stated that fans should have tempered expectations on his impact and minutes the first run through the league, 7 games was the specific number...." Meaning Doc wants to find the right combinations and wants CS to play under control according to his game plan. Personally think that Holley and Standhardinger playing together, would add a whole new dimension, we have good guard play already, the Big guys as Diaz Ubell QHC...play up to the gameplan Doc does not play a classic assignment scheme, all players play out of thier positions sometimes....while this makes it harder for the fans to understand, it provides flexibility to scheme opponents man for man (men vs man, as well) creating advantageous match ups. This team has lots of potential, if this team understands the advantages of playing Docs schemes. Year to Date the Big 12 Conference is 132 wins & 28 losses......that is an incredible winning %..... To compete your going to need to think outside the box...There are so many heralded recruits in longstanding programs with winning traditions, that to break through to the top 4 or 5 means you better be able to out scheme your opponents......IMO Doc Sadler is this edge...... The kids need to trust Doc, put Team first, and each one of them will be a better players because within this experience each guy will have feature games, where the stats will shift from X to Y without fans understanding why there isnt contintuity every game... Jeter Anderson already get this, QHC maybe as well....when they are not getting Avg points they are more likely than not Tasked with denying an opponent that persons game......appreciation comes faster when fans understand this simple fact. There wont be continuity as we are the underdogs picked to finish 2nd to last.... .in b12. Continutity is for chickens....for Doc to take this team out of this miserable projected finish...he needs to move each game, his players are the motion within each game, the reuslts will vary....fans coming back to NU BB are rewarded when they start to appreciate what a challenge its been to get all these whosethises playing together and making an impact.. Noticed from reading the varying threads that the critics all want the 1 2 3 4 5 definition other teams have...if we get that, we lose our edge....
  4. About the game tonight with SEL; Their lineup is as follows PG – Damon Forest (6'3” Junior, 11.2 PPG & 2.4 RPG) SG – Gary Dixon (6'3” Junior, 8.2 PPG & 1.1 RPG) SF – Deshawn Patterson (6’4” Sophomore, 4.4 PPG & 3.2 RPG) PF – Robert Tibbs (6’6” Senior, 6.7 PPG & 4.6 RPG) C – Patrick Sullivan (6'9” Senior, 15.6 PPG & 9.2 RPG) Nottice the numbers from the Big man Sullivan, he is built like Ubel and Diaz, lets see if our two youngsters can match up to him. This game should be a good test, size is close to even but a bit more experience for the visitor. We need to put this game away and get ready for B12 play....whole new ballgame and lineups once that part of the season arrives.
  5. Heard that CSH's coach from Germany was here over the weekend....could have some tape? Doc needs to exploit this connection, make sure this guy knows the rules so future recruits can make clear decisions about the choices they make....perhaps the coach can go back to Germany and put on a coaches clinic.... Another observation is that the europeans often appear unorthodx to US styles, even in the NBA you see it...much of the discussion on CS is that he looks/plays unorthodx, but this is just as much a function of what he's been coached up too. Dont think we can take much from his appearance as an indicator, think we need to let him use his skills, and if they confuse others....so be it.
  6. Thinking that the season is unfolding pretty well...After MD eastrn shore gets shuffeled into the win column we can begin to take a hard look at this new teams identity under the fire of B12 play. some observations; 1. Rebounding is up but not up enough, particularly on the Off end. Solution... Myles Holley needs more minutes, and QHC needs more too. Holley is more productive per minute in this category than anyone else so far. His leaping skills are exciting, it will be interesting how he's integrated once the full team gets locked and loaded. 2. Docs game plan so far... Gave the young frosh/RSF lots of pressure ,a trial by fire....its made all of them better, more ready for the real season to begin. No complaints about their progress, each is showing growth from the season start....what is not to like about that? Docs plans will change for the B12.. Once CS is allowed to go, we'll see more combinations of Holley, QHC with CS...together these guys can really impact expectations. this roster motion takes the pressure off the younger guys who still need more time to get physically ready to compete, let the newbys become the depth....and that is a really good thing... because the depth is now more or less experienced....good move DOC> Because rebounding must improve dramaticly for the season to produce a tournament bid, CS QHC & MH need to get on the court together, play together, and hit the boards...it will be one of the primary keys for a successful B12 season. We have not seen what this team can become, because its full arrangment of parts have not been together, and Docs strategy to get the young guys the early minutes has been a good one, because they have all gotten better. Need better shooting %....across the board, Docs system slows the game down.....so you must make the shots you take. Especially Free throws.... Still, the Rebounding must go up....we've only had a glimpse of what could follow.....three or four games into the B12, we should see how productive we can be versus the lowered expectations set by past teams rebounding performance. be sure to print team stats for the season before the A&M game, the real important data will flow from the preseason...to the B12...the rates of change across all categories, will be important, the pluses and minuses....need to be going in the right directions..... Up to now the lineups were in motion for different reasons.....the real season will flip flop some of the disparities in minutes from what is currently being registered within the stats....thats a good thing, BTW. this season may be all about, surprising folks.......
  7. I would like to have Frost back, but calling out a hypothetical date is ridiculous. Ok ridiculous.......there is nothing ridiculous about Frost coming home...we want the guy,,,he was born to be a coach, trained under coaches, and will become a great one once the stops on his itinerary are met and checked off...get him in...lincoln ASAP.
  8. call it intuition....he is the logical choice to complete the circle allowing us to leave this past decade in our wake.
  9. 1. Lester Ward....has real game, 14 yards on 2 carries last night. Style like USC tailback. Kept off field through most of this season, with the offense in hiding...will emerge as a great tandem player with Rex B.... 2. Taylor Martinez....will surprise everyone, his patience and willingness to play any role this past season will create competitive tension among the QB's. If NU integrates wildcat as an offense to grow from ...which makes perfect sense, than Martinez will emerge as 1 or 2 through next season. His Speed, arm strength and team first attitude....will help NU take the Wildcat too new levels...The Wildcat is an offense like the option, but has not had a lot of experimentation or creativity applied to it...NU will be the labratory of what makes a WildCat offense the new decades offense. 3. Chase Rome....stud........RS or Not... 4. Qvalle.....coulda been a difference maker this year...along with new JC Tackle, these two will take the line to the next level. 5. Gomes, Dennard, Prince........best DB's in the country with a deep bench behind. 6. Burkehead & K Reed excell simply because they are flat out the best atheletes at the positions they play...in a hybrid wildcat these two assume multiple identities...tough to scheme roles that are not clear cut. 7. Team D.....the spread is now solved....the future for the spread is not unlike the period when the option was solved....Leach the innovator is now out of the league...everyone rode Leaches coat tails...copy cats rarely do well when the cat they been copying, is no longer in thier line of sight to refresh the hurdles implied by on the fly adjustments.. NU is locked and loaded for the new decade......should be fun.... BY 2011 we'll have Mr Frost back....on this staff, hopefully sooner....
  10. Your right. Texas will do better scoring against Bama than they did us...not saying it will be enough to win, but they will score. the combination of the best front 4 in the country and good enough long enough DB's, killed the passing game...that is what kept Texas on its heals...Bama is good, we all know that, but Tx has weapons that will under the right schemes, produce results.
  11. He won't be at the combine unless it's to do some questions and answers. Anyone seriously considering him will probably check him out in Lincoln beforehand and I'm sure that will be a limited jog around the field. I have a feeling that whoever gets the first pick will either trade the pick or trade Suh after the pick. There probably isn't a team that hasn't thought about what it would take to get him and having the first pick may get you several years of other first round picks. Struggling teams don't need one player. They need several. Unless a miracle happens, the Rams will have the first pick. They have taken d line recently and have about a million needs. I could totally see them trading down to someone like the 49ers or the Pats. Pats could give half thier draft....and still be ahead because of thier skill in free agency. They actually have a youth thing going, but lots of free agents want to go there. A preference for Draft or free agency can shift year over year and not kill a team, its the net combination that determines success. 49ers would be well served to do what they can to get SUH, he would push them into the top tier legitimate playoff team winning with defense and ball control. Me thinks Singletary would get the most out of SUH and would scheme his talent better than almost any other coach. I would love Suh to go with either of these teams, adding strength on strength...versus strength on weakness. Want to see SUH in the pros in the playoffs, not on the sidelines with a team that cant get over the hump, due to the revolving door of poor leadership, no direction back and forth, a consistant mess ....Chiefs come to mind, who never should have fired Schottneheimer, and then kept that boob GM for far too long.
  12. I am in agreement with thread folks who say he should skip the post season combine games.... The Bowl game will have plenty of eyes, if Mr Suh plays to his goal of playing a perfect game, he should just forget the positioning hoopala, because the scouts have all that game film and Mr Suh has nothing too prove. Wonder what he means by a perfect game? Could be the combined total of DL plays, DL plays for loss, sacks by dline... remember the KU game, where his function was to occupy...lets hope the staff places him in a postion to do what comes naturally and his Dline mates....play the game for him in tribute to how he's played so many games for them. One last hope is the refs are given instructions to flag the holding, curtail all chop blocks, and for once let Mr Suh play as if the game were pure....and not a function of manipulation...1 game....
  13. Have this sneaking Suspicion that Mr. M Singletary and the SF 49er brain trust is plotting a way to use the 49ers two first round picks & more; to move up and snatch Mr Suh at #1. Singletary of all the coaches understands what he's seeing when Mr Suh runs laterally and beats the flow side def end to the hit. Colt Mcoy video highlights show just how talented SUH is on at least 3 occassions Suh was running step for step laterally and no one was going to turn the corner on him and no one did. We've seen Suh do so much that he is not supposed to do. NFL coaches with a nose for defense will be the ones who will be salivating to win Mr Suhs attention. Some NFL teams are close enough, that they might even pull a Ditka to get the #1 pick., Suh will go #1, unless a three way deal is worked out where other teams arrange who they'll get in a specific order based on need...bottom line Suh would be the catalyst for the the movement and any dealmaking. St louis could use two first rounders and more, Detroit the same, KC needs O line but would take Suh if they get 1st pick, Haley would trade for more picks. Singletary....has the game, and knows that there are few with Suhs talent, Kiper has OK's McCoy right up there but lets be honest, he's not SUH by a long shot. If I was the 49ers I would be plotting to get the #1 Pick...and would use as many parts of these next two drafts to get him. If Suh plays in any of the post season events, the NFL coaches who get to work with him, will spread the word..... 49ers if they get Suh....look out, whole new ball game.
  14. Your comment is a summary "Wats shows noo creativity on offense at all. It seriously looked like we ran ten total plays on offense against UT." When you are the Offensive corodinator, its your plans and schemes that are on trial. Your supposed to have a plan and an identity that schemes your schedules talent. Please we've been patient with watson long enough... your summary statement illustrates best that his plans and identity are evidence of a drowning man, clueless of why he got in over his head, terrified, someone wont get there in time to bail him out. Under most conditions if a player screws up...he's not long for the lineup, in SW case, all the evidence of the stats over long period of time, demonstrates he does little or nothing to try other people eager to make thier mark, but shrinks his playbook to meet his lowered expectations. Is that because he is not coaching them up? We cant know all the truths of this complex situation, but the huge playbook reduced to 10 plays a game.... ET could use a can and a string to phone that plan home.
  15. You are being disingenuous. The offense has stats that emabarass the program. Me thinks its not at all the quality of players but the quality of the coaching. No other quality team looks as ugly as NU, most of our ugliness stems from a complete ineptitude in schemeing player mismatches. Just as our defense outplays other offenses, the offensive side should be performing at or near the same level, but cant with a game coach like watson. No passses to TE last night...geeesh...the details of the entire season are down right disgusting to anyone who saw the games reads the stats and has any knowledge of the players skill sets. If one were to go out on a limb to really search for a rational reason for this, one could take the high road, claiming its the players fault....thats plausible denyability, an attempt to try and cover for a terrible year of production, or one could take the low road and suggest something much worse. The data of the season is reflected in the situational stimulus response of play calling to scheme situations. Frankly only a brain dead fan could replay any game and not recognize how poorly coached up the players were for the situations presented. Its not on the players, its on the coaches. Watson and Cotton should be the first to go, gilmore next.... Watson showed no creativity, no coaching up, and no adaptability, other than to flip back and forth finding some identity he had not prepared himself to find. His schemes illustrated inept planning for a mediocre performance. He did little substitution of OL all year looking for winning combinations, he did nothing for the team and the teams offsensive production proves it. The data along with the film contain the information....so stop kidding yourselves that this guy has value beyond what the data show.
  16. This is correct and it is a poly sci tactic to use this choice to split the momentum of unfavorables between the lesser of two evils. These threads are being worked by vested interests. Anyone not seeing the data about the offense is just plain stupid. Yep stupid....the data of the season is all you need. If your visual cortex does not have instant replay of the complete stumble bum mess this offense has been, see a neurologist fast, because we are being hosed by the ineptitude of engineered bad choices.. Can the entire offense coaching staff.... Consider Will shields should coach the O line...Scott Frost should be in, get rid of all the non affiliated and especially everyone with a callahan connection.
  17. This TX game showed perhaps the best defensive game plan I've seen...maybe ever. This squad took everything away from TX, the presure, man to man coverage, it was just flat out the best team effort against a highly rated offense this season. Makes you wonder how we lost any games, until you compare it with the lack of schemes on offense. Suh deserves all the acclaim he'll get, what a man. Gomes is the best newcomer on this years squad, he will play in the NFL for years, he has the IT factor. Gomes needs to focus this offseason, take advantage of the position hes in with the facilities, coaches and support....if he can get that focus and hone his natural ability he could be an All American next year. Prince has really showed great skill and tenacity, best any package corner, since Ralph Brown. Dillard manned up.....made huge progress over the last 4 games. Crick is a stud in his own right, his personal challenge will be to continue the momentum of this years interior tandem, with whomever is put along side of him next season. The interior recruits and those on the roster need to watch the film and learn the hand work SUH and Crick showed. Eric Martin will emerge as a leader, his block was awesome, his speed and tenaciousness on special teams illustrates his willingness to TEAM up. Once a player gets that fire he can lead and Eric Martin has done everything asked of him and done it well. Special Kudus to Coach Sanders for making the coverage guys better.....alot better. Clean house on offense and continue building the pride of the defense, and NU will have met the challenge of this forced journey into Hell and back.
  18. Watson needs to go and Cotton with him. Been silent all season biting the tounge. What has the offense has shown this season? Play calling and talent have been benched all year. There is no amount of rationalizing the horrible scripting of plays, the lack of schemes to create mis matches with athleticsm is completely absent since the first 3 games. If you believe we have not had many player mismatches that are simply not schemed, your not watching close enough. This Coordinator does not work up to the standards set by the defense, we have the talent but its riding the pine....hidden behind a mediocre offensive mind, that has shown the ability to scheme to lose. Yes scheme to lose....... Bring in Mangino....or someone who is is not from the callahan school of the bought and paid for. Scott Frost would make an excellent position coach and you know he would not go against team goals.
  19. Your right of course....Niemann was to be the post. Diaz and Ubel shooting forwards, HankCole PF. So it will take another year for all the pieces to arrive and be installed with depth. Liking the team so far. The shooting % is up, rebounding Up, steals, blocks, turnovers all respectable. Hankins C is taking some charges that Velander got for us....all good signs that the system is getting inside the players. CS in January adds even more.....the kids are going to open next season in the San Juan shootout, which will be a hugely positive thing for that turnament. Folks will come in droves, JBD will be a team hero if the kids get a day and night on the town, PR senoritas memorable experiences. CS and Niemann open Germany to Husker recruiting and lets hope Doc can exploit the opening, like the international flavor in recruiting. If the big names dont see NU as a school of choice, so what...move the game overseas and begin to create pipelines....what is not to like about that. When the Brazillian gets here we'll have depth, and all position sizes and skill sets present, ready to compete with a typical lineup which NU has lacked for many years.. Lots of things to smile about when it comes to this team and the future.
  20. There is no need to post the figures from game one, as one game cannot establish a trend. For Husker basketball fans, the truth will be told by the performance against the season averages. For those of the fan base who know each of the various past teams personalities, it wont be difficult to begin making solid observations about this team versus the ones of recent memory. To be honest, Doc Sadler brought my interest back to BB Team. Last years performances were testimony to his system. After hearing the Huskers would field the smallest team in NCAA, my thinking was game set match, no need to tune in as we are in for another mediocre to possibly brutal year. Once the Skers beat the Billicans and then Creighton, I began to tune in, and must say you felt there was someting special about the level of achievement from that group of players. The Texas upset flat out made me a fan and thereafter wanted to enjoy tracking Docs teams over the foreseeable future. Certain posters on other boards began writing about the talent level, and those posters who monitor practice and study film, moved me to understand that Doc coaches skill sets that when applied in his system, will win games. These same posters understood from watching all the previous teams that what they are seeing now is a different product....above average from the past 5 to 7 years. Its clear Christian S, will be a player for us, as will entire group of new guys. These guys just need to understand that the team will do really well under most conditions if they buy/ play in Docs system. With the New center for next year and a healthy Niemann,, sheeesh we are looking at one heck of a team, if this years young guys keep maturing, the draught of post season for nebraska will end...and the special thing about it will be that it will end with a bang and not a wimper. The team deserves support, because it is going to be exciting....noticed attendance jumped for the openner by about 400.......we'll see this momentum grow as more folks rediscover NU hoops.

  22. your right of course. Lots of assumptions We are taller, so projecting that we will get more rebounds isnt such a leap of understanding. You did see last years rebounding totals? We better improve on those numbers and its not a great leap to suggest we will. shooting % last year were only fair. To suggest that these numbers might get better with this group is wishful thinking but not out of the relm of possibility. CS is a player....that is clear. Is he going to be better than Ade? We dont know. If he produces during his limited season up to Ade, we are a better team in total. Jeter & B rich each needs to do better than miller...should not be that difficult. Jeter is closer to Collins of KU than Miller, so measure the tangibles because that is all we have at this point. Ryan now gets to play a more natural position, and Sek as well. Ubell, Hankins Cole and Diaz....all bring missing tangibles compared to last years team...those three add ht, at natural positions, can they play better than smaller guys playing unnatural positions? Velander played miserably the 2nd half of the season.....was his play due to being out of position? Probably some truth in that. that leaves Mccray...MCCray needs to beat his last years production...no leap of understanding to project that responsibility to him unless his injury prevents it, a year of maturity on a team with better tangibles should enable him to surpass his production from last year. If Doc coaches his system and applies his schemes, with this Height improvement, we can and should do better. Team Chemistry, is a wild card, if we find it early we are better off, last years guys surpassed expectations by playing Docs system, even though 2/5ths of them found themselves outside of their natural positions much of the time. your sceptisim is as right as my optimism....
  23. Knappl....nice work and the proper conclusion... the referree function has a deciding impact on games, your data prove it, even though most wont admit it. folks will say all sorts of things to rationalize influence applied..or not applied as programs permit..but those folks, are just mouthpieces in service to self interest. good work.....and true.
  24. Exhbition sets tone for 08/09 team deficit reversal Sadler was pleased with his team's rebounding, especially on the defensive end. The Huskers out-rebounded the Lions 48-26 overall, and had 32 defensive rebounds compared to just seven offensive boards by Arkansas-Fort Smith. 48 rpg x 31 gms= 1468.....reversing the ugly data of the previous year. that will certainly be a Big factor in the 22-7 season.
