  1. Let's keep the offensive line the same as well. We will just end up getting our young QB hurt badly.
  2. Keep trotting the same players out there, who make the same mistakes, but expecting different results. It isn't loyalty. It's insanity.
  3. Bookie didn't decommit because of W-L's, or the product on the field. Bookie brought his whole family with him to the Wisconsin game. You think that is a kid who was worried? Bookie committed to Nebraska in large part because he completely bought into the future of Mike Riley and Donte Williams. He knew where things were, but to him he thought things would change. But even as a 17 year old, he could actually see the big picture. Success isn't made overnight. And to change a culture, and a program, doesn't happen overnight. Point blank -- if Riley and Donte were gonna be here, Bookie was gonna be here. But now we have an administration who had a knee jerk reaction to the NIU loss. From that point on, the negative recruiting has been relentless. The coaches? Nothing they can do answers the recruits questions. I mean, how do you explain to kids that we have a fan base that was more supportive of a guy who told them to "EFF OFF" than a guy in Riley who is universally loved and respected by players and recruits? The next coach? Good luck salvaging a class in about 3 months that very likely will end up with about 4-5 solid commits once everyone else opens things up. That should surely help with the depth concerns. Should be fun few years for him until the knee jerk reactions happen, again.
  4. Young was spying. But it's like asking a Volvo to keep up with a Porsche.
  5. This is gonna be about the Jimmy's and the Joe's. Not gonna get any better tonight.
  6. This is all incredibly untrue. In '03 we talked to Urban Meyer, Butch Davis, etc., they just were not interested. In '07 we talked to Brian Kelly and Chris Peterson, among others. Were not interested. In '14, we talked to Dan Mullen, Chris Peterson (again), and others. None were interested. We have ALWAYS had the money to pay top dollar for a coaching staff. It's why boosters laughed at the idea of worrying about Pelini's buyout. Money isn't an issue in Lincoln. Never has been. Never will be.
  7. It's not solely about Riley. That's short sighted to look at how potential coaches and their agents will look at situations. You're asking a coach, and his family to uproot, move to Lincoln, to allow their first recruiting class to become seniors? That's the amount of time a coaching staff will be given in this situation? Even more, if you do somewhat succeed in this situation, 9-3 may not even be good enough either to keep your job. It's easy to say, "well we didn't want them anyway". But the reality is, they are not gonna want us. The same as they have not wanted us the last few times this job popped open. If jobs were solely about money, we would have gotten a big name coach in '03. Or in '07. Or in '14.
  8. People are really under the impression that if/when Riley is fired, that we will be able to go get a big name coach? We fired Solich after a 9-3 season. What top tier coaches knocked down the door to get this job then? We fired Pelini after a 9-3 season. What top tier coached knocked down the door to get this job then? We fire Riley after just barely 2 years on the job - you're gonna have a repeat of settling for another coach, rather than getting a top tier hire.
  9. Thanks to Oregon for getting ultra-conservative in the 2nd half. Much appreciated.
  10. Adjustments? Nope. Still the same base defense.
  11. If I'm HC, Diaco gets two choices at halftime .. Change it up defensively. Hand over the headset to Bray and he will be calling defensive plays the rest of this game. I can sorta understand getting beat if you're trying everything, and the other team is just simply better. But when you've done the same crap for 2 straight weeks, continue to get embarrassed doing it, and change NOTHING, then the problem is the coach.
  12. Diaco should just wave the white flag. It's quicker.
  13. If it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck right now.
  14. He didn't look for the ball. It hit him in the side of the head.
  15. Our offense is answering. But our defense has about two choices .. A.) Stop playing base defense. or B.) Beg Oregon to at least spit on it or lube us up first while we touch our toes
  16. I said last week that if Diaco was stubborn and continued to play base defense versus Oregon that it would get ugly. Well, hello ugly .. Any of our LBs versus Charles Nelson out of the slot .. just, wow. Who gameplanned that and thought that would be a great matchup for us?
  17. Whether we 'hid' anything schematically is different argument from acknowledging the personnel groupings we ran last night. IIRC, we only went into nickel or dime personnel 1-2 times last night, in all the plays we ran defensively. Instead, in 4 WR sets, we had Newby, Ferguson, Barry and Gifford trying to cover WRs in the flats and down the field. We may learn that Diaco is a stubborn man, but an unintelligent man isn't something I would put on him. So take from that what you will. But one thing is certain, if we do that again next week, we are easily getting 50+ on the board put up against us.
  18. Diaco owns this game. The absolute refusal to get out of the base schemes to go into dime packages to cover the underneath routes was stunning and bordering on inept.
  19. Donte and Elliott together would be an incredible tag team in the secondary. Donte is young and exciting. He can relate well to the kids, and can get the talent here. Elliott is one of the better teachers in CFB. Giving a young coach like Donte a chance to learn from someone like Bob Elliott is invaluable not only to him, but to us for as long as Donte may be with this University.
  20. One of the few times I'll side with the media but it's their job to report all sides...At least it used to be. Maybe weve forgotten with all the fake news these days. Here's the problem - this stuff gets used negatively against the school. That good guy rep Mike Riley has? Schools will now show the articles and spin it as "Riley did this to his best friend of 20 years; you think he's going to look after you?" It's already been a point of contention between the AD and the local media with all the "hot seat" talk during the season. The coaches were having to answer those questions to recruits far too often because the local media will not just shut up. It sucks for Banker. But dude has been an average DC for a LONG time, and has gotten paid quite often out of loyalty more than results. He got $500k a year to recruit his butt off, and put out top defenses. He did neither while he was here. The only thing he was owed when he signed that contract was a whistle, an office, and a paycheck. Banker is right about one thing, we're all grown ass men. So stop expecting to be coddled, and accept the result of your mediocre performances. It sucks. But it's reality.
  21. Our media focuses on some incredibly stupid things. Just hired one of the best young DCs in CFB - nope, let's focus alot of attention on Mark Banker's feelings being hurt.
  22. He's getting another nice little raise this offseason. Yeah, but what I was thinking is if a DC comes in and stays 3, 4 years, maybe Bray gets a promotion somewhere else before then. I mean, if it's the right guy at DC I think that's acceptable. But maybe Bray is that guy already. Either seems like a plausible way to go to me. I guess it's sounding like veteran DC, though. The one thing that got Bo in more trouble than anything else was his constant hiring from within rather than hiring the best candidate, period. Pap wasn't the guy. Beck wasn't the guy. They were just the easy hire. Is Bray a bright young coach? Yes. But is a B10 school, with the history of Nebraska, the proper place for him to cut his teeth as a DC? Bray has a great sense of loyalty to Riley. He's played for him, and coached under him. If Bray goes to a school as a DC, has success, and wants to climb the ranks, Riley can give him another opportunity, and I'm certain Bray would be willing to pounce at the chance.
  23. He's getting another nice little raise this offseason.
