  2. The Citrus Bowl still sells bottled beer (and I love being a UCF student because of it) but it's those neat plastic ones.
  3. Just because a team is preseason ranked #2, it does not mean that they are the 2nd best team in the nation. You can only tell how good a team is at the end of the season. Just because a team is assumed to be good does not make it true. As I said before, Tennessee was a preaseason top 10 team last year, yet went 5-6. I don't know many people who would think that 5-6 team is a top 10 team. I don't. I look at what a team does over the entire season, not just which ever couple of weeks fits my fancy. I didn't say whatever week fits my fancy, it's the week we played them. I agree, pre-season polls are useless, but how many of those teams did we play at the beginning of the year? The earliest was Iowa State and that was week 4 or 5. Teams go through hot and cold streaks, and the polls are indication of how well they are doing at the time that we play them, not eight weeks down the road.
  4. That post wasn't aimed at you Addison Mode, just a good way to get my point across. And yes, Mizzou was 25th in the Coaches poll that week. They were at 7-2. Proof
  5. How does it matter more where they finish than when you play them? We played Texas when they were one of the hottest teams in the nation. We didn't get the same Texas that Iowa got. In fact, I'd love to play the same Texas that Iowa played. There's injuries, morale and a million other things that factor into a team slipping as the season goes along. The fact is we're 4-1 against ranked teams outside of the top 10 when we played them.
  6. Actually 4-6 against the top 25. You forgot Michigan last season and I'm almost 100% positive that Missouri was 25th in the Coaches poll the week we played them this season. 5 of the 6 losses have come against top 10 opponents at the time that we played them. So we're 4-1 against ranked opponents outside of the top 10 in the Callahan era (only loss being the Texas Tech thriller a year ago). I'll take that. Now I'm getting extremely frustrated seeing Nebraska lose to the top 10 as well. Could we have beaten Texas? Of course, but we caught a bad break similar to what happened against Tech in 05. Could we have beaten Oklahoma? Yes we could have, but a mistake gave them the momentum early and Taylor just didn't have the tools to beat that defense. Could we have beaten Auburn? Absolutely, but some questionable calls, especially near the end, and once again their D shut our passing game down. It's extremely frustrating, and Callahan has a ways to go, but for everyone on this thread calling for his head you need to get real. We had 5 recruiting classes as a part of this team heading into this season. Two of them were Solich's, and one of them Callahan had three weeks to salvage and bring in a couple four stars. Those classes were ranked 40th, 42nd and 27th in the nation. Since then, we've brought in the 5th, 20th and working on the 8th best. The average for the recruiting class rankings of the athletes in our program this year was 26.8, meaning about the 27th best in the country on average. Our talent is extremely young. If you put this up against the top 10 teams we faced - USC (3.8), Texas (10.2), Oklahoma (6.2), Auburn (12.2) - we aren't there yet. But if recruiting for 07 were to end today and you did the average of Callahan's 3 full classes, we're right at 11, just above Auburn and just below Texas. And if you believe that Boise State could've done what they did if they played in a BCS conference week in and week out then you are just naive. I'm not saying that Callahan doesn't have things to work on, because it's obvious that he does. But he's still young. This was only his 5th season as a head coach on any level. Coaches improve just as players do. I'm still behind Callahan 100%. If we're still losing to every top 10 team we face in two years then I'll change my opinion. But for now, 4-1 against ranked opponents outside the top 10 is good indication that we're getting there. Beating the entire Big XII North when 4 years ago we were getting blown out by Missouri and Kansas State at home is good indication that we are getting there. Going to the Big XII Championship game and competing against one of the top 3 SEC teams in a New Years Bowl game is good indication that we're getting there. A lot of you want to see NCs right away, and we all do, but it just won't happen. Too much parity in college football and we were left in a bad situation in 2004. I'm looking forward to a great 2007. I'm looking forward to seeing what we're made of when we face off against a good Nevada team and two BCS teams in Wake and USC in our first three games. And I wouldn't be surprised if we went out and started 3-0. This team is getting there, and are in a hell of a lot better situation than we have been in since 1999 IMO. I'm sure as hell not ready to throw in the towel and turn into 'Bama.
  7. Exactly. I'm not content with 5 loss seasons either. And yes, we very well could be 11-3 with better calls on the field this year. It's tough, but to call for Callahan's head is asinine. Are we not making progress? Maybe not as soon as everyone wanted to, but I honestly think that we're slowly but surely headed toward consistent top 10 seasons again. Callahan is growing as a head coach, he's very young and very inexperienced, but he knows his crap. He has to get better at several areas of his in-game coaching. If we have another season like this next year, then yes, maybe it's time we start worrying. But at least we aren't losing games that we're supposed to win anymore (besides maybe Okie State, but I knew that would be a tough one headed into the season).
  8. Nice. I put it on YouTube now if anyone wants to put it on their favorites.
  9. Do you want us to become Alabama? Seriously. There was some bad play calling there at the end of the game, and I'm as upset as any of you. Callahan has a lot of work today, but keep in mind this is only his 5th season as a head coach at any level. If you can't see progress being made, then you are blind. I'm not a sunshine pumper, I know our coach makes some dumb ass calls, but he'll progress as this team progress. I don't want to go through a downward spiral every time we have just a decent season like this year and search for the next Tom Osborne ala 'Bama. Callahan will improve, give him time.
  10. It's on his YouTube page now. Cotton Bowl Pump Up YouTube
  11. We DON'T want this kid. I have a few buddies who play for Florida and I've heard nothing but bad things about him.
  12. I'm making a Brandon Jackson video, it's about 4 minutes long right now. Any suggestions for music to put to it that's around that long? I had 30 Seconds to Mars "Attack" on there but it was way too short. Man has too many highlights.
  13. Adi are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay Adi? That's going to be fun to sing over the next four years.
  14. Yeah, I had uploaded them right after those games and then started linking them to YouTube. I may throw a few together after the Auburn game of B.Jax and Lucky, if I have any time. I'll try not to use the red text at the beginning next time, that didn't turn out too well.
  15. My first try at this thing. Tell me what you think... *** Caution --- Contains Some Profanity *** Maurice Purify Highlight Video
  16. Thanks hookem. Big XII Pride. Ya'll go out and put the Big Ten in their place. Hopefully we'll be able to take care of AU.
  17. The "Greatest College Football Playoff" show on ESPN Classic tonight set the 32 best teams ranked by ESPN against each other in a tournament. It was hosted by Rece Davis and had Lou Holtz, Barry Switzer, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Todd Blackledge, Tony Dorsett and Mark May breaking it down as well. All 3 Nebraska teams ('71, '83 and '95) made the final 8. '71 knocked off both '04 USC and '05 Texas to get into the Championship game, while '95 knocked off '01 Miami in the semifinal. The '95 team won something like 88%-12%. Everyone seemed to be okay with it besides Herbstreit, who wouldn't stop whining and taking shots at the state of Nebraska. He said the best two teams in the tournament were '04 USC and '01 Miami, and that's what led me to do this. '71 Nebraska only beat '04 USC by 1%, so it would've been interesting to see how lop-sided the voting would've been in '95 Nebraska's favor in the final if that USC team would've made it. OK, I think I'm done now.
  18. I posted this on Huskers Illustrated. Hope you enjoy... Well since we saw Herbstreit totally melt down and nearly burst into tears like a 7 year old who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas, I've decided to compare one of the teams that he said should've made been in the finals (04 USC) to our 95 team. I swear, sometimes these guys are oblivious to the fact that football was actually played before the new millennium, even if it was as recent as the mid-90s. Anyways, here's what I got... USC in 2004 had 5 games decided by less than 14 points. Unranked Virginia Tech (11), @ unranked Stanford (3), #9 California (6), @ unranked Oregon State (8), @ unranked UCLA (5). Nebraska's closest game in 1995 was decided by 14, against unranked Washington State. They had one decided by 23 (@ #5 Colorado) and one decided by 24 (#6 Kansas State). They had no other games decided by less than 37 (their national championship blowout of Florida was their fifth closest game of the season). USC gets most of their publicity because they blew out Oklahoma. Nebraska blew out Florida by more points (62-24, 38 points) than USC beat Oklahoma (55-19, 36 points). Florida's 1995 team is considered one of its best ever. I'm pretty sure Oklahoma's 2004 team won't. USC also got big publicity because they did it back-to-back. Nebraska also won their second in a row in 1995, but they were undefeated in 1994 and beat a favored 1-loss Miami team, complete with Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp, in the Orange Bowl: their own hometown. USC went 12-1 and beat a Michigan team that went 10-3. Two years before 1995, the Huskers lost one game, in the National championship to Florida State by 2 points. In 2002, the Trojans lost 2 regular season games, to Washington State and Kansas State. 2004 USC @ Virginia Tech…W 24-13 vs. Colorado State…W 49-0 @ Brigham Young…W 42-10 @ Stanford…W 31-28 vs. #9 California…W 23-17 vs. #19 Arizona State…W 45-7 vs. Washington…W 38-0 @ Washington State…W 42-12 @ Oregon State…W 28-20 vs. Arizona…W 49-9 vs. Notre Dame…W 41-10 @ UCLA…W 29-24 Orange Bowl: vs. #3 Oklahoma…W 55-19 Average Scoring Margin: 38.2 - 13 (25.2 Margin of Victory) Average Scoring Margin vs. Top 25: 41 – 14.3 (26.7 Margin of Victory) Average Top 25 Opponent Ranking (Final Polls): 10.3 (3 Teams; 2 home, 1 neutral site) Average Yards Per Game: 449.1 Average Yards Given Up Per Game: 279.3 1995 Nebraska @ Oklahoma State…W 64-21 @ Michigan State…W 50-10 vs. Arizona State…W 77-28 vs. Pacific…W 49-7 vs. Washington State…W 35-21 vs. Missouri…W 57-0 vs. #6 Kansas State…W 49-25 @ #5 Colorado…W 44-21 Iowa State…W 73-14 @ #9 Kansas…W 41-3 Oklahoma…W 37-0 Fiesta Bowl vs. #2 Florida…W 62-24 Average Scoring Margin: 53.2 - 14.5 (38.7 Margin of Victory) Average Scoring Margin vs. Top 25: 49.0 – 18.3 (30.7 Margin of Victory) Average Top 25 Opponent Ranking (Final Polls): 5.5 (4 teams; 1 home, 2 away, 1 neutral site) Average Yards Per Game: 556.3 Average Yards Given Up Per Game: 294.1 I think it's safe to say Nebraska would win this one.
  19. From everything I've heard, this is as good as done. Not official yet so don't hold me to it, but by all accounts it will be him. I'm very happy with this one. Very good, young African American coach who can recruit and has sent quite a few players to the league.
  20. How has UNC's offense done this year with Joe Dailey?
  21. How do you guys get the clips? Is there a way to save videos on Huskers.com or do you just tape the coach Callahan show?
  22. Yeah no shot with Bernstine. Washington could very well end up at OLB as well. Big get for this class.
  23. Incredible what this guy has been able to overcome. Great read, Eric, thanks.
  24. With Armando Murrillo, Shawn Sullivan, Anthony Blue and potentially DeAndre West at corner, we're sitting pretty good. I hope Ross follows through, but it's not a big necessity. I'd rather get another safety (LaTravis Washington) myself.
  25. Wow...are you serious? On the hot seat after going 5-0 against the North and getting us to the Big XII Championship game/New Year's Day Bowl? That has to be a joke.
