  1. This kid was a 2 star in high school, I wonder if that was due to his grades or his size. I really have no clue if grades effect the rating system at all. It is great to see that he has worked hard to reach his goals and hopefully he keeps working hard in that classroom too.
  2. Sounds like he is one of the 30 or so high school players that contacted the staff after the championship game. I guess there had been some contact in the past but not to much interest on his part, I guess that might be changing a bit.
  3. Sorry, my post was soooo sweet I posted it twice.
  4. I agree, I mean what does Watson even tell the kids "ummm yeah we run a WCO", well the kid probably just looks at him and goes "why, every freaking high school in america is either running a spread or pounding the ball, are you basically telling me that I wont get to use my athletic ability and wont get to play until I am a freaking senior"
  5. The good news is, kids ranked this high that have not narrowed things down to much are usually more open to looking at lots of schools and taking trips.
  6. Really? Pulling a kid out of Penn is hard enough, but it doesnt look like NU has even been in contact with him. Have you heard something or are you just hoping? Dont get me wrong, I am hoping too!
  7. Sorry, but if we keep claiming it's about the kids that decommit rather than something wrong with what they are seeing in Lincoln, we will soon suck. The kids leaving are not of any less character than the kids committed and will come to Lincoln next spring or summer. They saw something they didn't like. I think it is not just our inept offense but the total chaos as to what is going to be done with the offense. Bo's tirades toward staff and players on the sidelines don't help create the "Husker familY" that many are sold by recruiters. If Bo decided as I'm told Mack Brown does and tell these two players looking around "If you look around you are no longer wanted at NU", he screwed up because they called his bluff. Now those two are water under the bridge. It is now only a few weeks to signing day. Our offense is the worst I've seen period. And what do we have in a recruiting class? A great home grown OL, A TE from Texas that played for a running team and caught very few passes and a two star reciever homegrown. We have now lost 3 four star offensive players. We certainly won't be finding 3 four star offensive players to come in this class to take their places. Talking about who we might get in the 2011 class is silly. We need skill players in this class!! At some point we need to stop blaming the recruits leaving and look at the friction, tension and chaos on our team. Pick an offense, pick the coaches to run it, commit to the philosphy and don't belittle those trying to get it done in public. That would help attract highly talented kids more than anything. Billyball, I got to tell you man, you sound a lot like a BRBer to me. Look at your 4 star talent, cause guess what, it started at QB this year, how did it look? It is amazing that people that dont do this for a living, still want to tell people who do it for a living how to do things all the time.
  8. I hope your right, because on the surface it sure makes BP and staff look VERY incompetent when it comes to recruiting offensive players. It's usually the school who slow plays the kid, but around here it's the other way around....... bo apparently pulled his offer when he got tired of the kid jerking us around. you would think we'd have learned from the older brother, but better late than never. How did he jerk NU around? He committed months ago. What's he supposed to do, wear a hairshirt and crawl to Lincoln to show his faith? Here's my opinion (and go ahead and bring it on): 1. A very poorly called offensive game. 2. The following day's article in the Omaha World Herald - DC yelling at the winning team over and over "You should be ashamed"... chants of "Cheaters".... Bo cussing out the Big 12 Commissioner. As soon as I read that I thought "That's gonna cost them some recruits". I see the point you are trying to make but lets say he watched the Big 12 championship game and was rooting for NU, we can probably assume that. Well, if thats the case then dont you think he would have also felt that NU got "robbed" and if so, dont you think that he would have felt Bo's reactions were what any coach would do? Dont you think that if he was 100% committed to NU that he would have also in a way, felt robbed? I think you could agree that would be a normal emotion. But if he did not feel that, and felt that what Bo did was wrong, then it is clear that he was not 100% committed. If he was not 100% committed, then it seems fair to think that in the end the pull of an instate school and his brother would be enough to get him to mizzo. Maybe you didnt play sports, maybe you did, I would have no idea. But players LOVE coaches that stick up for them and protect the team and its players. Thats why almost all coaches try sooooo hard to never do the opposite. I would imagine you could agree with that too. Now, really what I think it was is that the kid wants to play where his brother is at. Thats pretty normal and maybe he doesnt think Watson is going to help him get to the next level or maybe when he was still kind of in doubt about where he wanted to play, the NU staff finally told him, thanks but no thanks. They probably got sick of waiting for the kid.
  9. Jeremy Crabtree "we have nothing public that has been said but privately it is said that Oregon is a MONSTER leader for him right now, he was down there for the Civil War and they are a MONSTER leader right now" I would love to get this kid, but he seems soooooo family oriented and helps his mom raise the rest of his family and has such a great respect and love for his mom and family that I think he stays closer to home.
  10. A buddy just told me that NU is pushing hard to get him away from Purdue after losing out on Gabbert. Does anyone know any news on this or is this just a rumor? I've hear something about that too. In a perfect world this may be true. But something tells me the ship may have already sailed with this guy. It's unfortunate, but would you want to be a schools "oh sh#t" replacement? Or would you be loyal to the school that committed to you being "the" guy? If they told me from the beginning they could only take one QB and someone else committed first, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Happens all the time. Me and four other guys interview for one position. The company chooses one of the other guys. 6 months later they call me back saying they have an opening and ask if I’m interested? If it’s a good company and I was treated well the first time around, you betcha. A lot depends on the kids maturity, but I can see it happening. I also believe we continued to recruit him as a non QB for a while too, which may help. This is a very good comparison and I think it makes a lot of sense. Like I also said in a pervious post, most IL kids have zero allegience to any colleges, except for ND (they either love them or hate them). There is a chance that he likes Purdue but is not in love with it. Distance doesnt seem to be a factor either but I really cant remember how far Purdue is from where this kid lives.
  11. from the looks of it, Cotton is probably on the way out. so in that case, you are crazy. Thats right, I forgot about that!
  12. Sean Robinson, if he had been "Maroniviched" like Blaine Gabbert had, would be a top 3QB in the nation this year and maybe the number 1 dual threat QB. He is raw because of he wasnt schooled as a QB for 10 years but he has more tools then most kids in the nation. This kid is a flat out steal for Purdue. His early verbal, mixed in with his rawness have kept him a little bit more hidden then he deserves to be. He is a more athletic Blaine Gabbert and problaby a better overall athlete then a Jake Locker. The Huskers made a mistake in turning him away but hopefully they can get in good with him again. The good news is, most kids from Illinios have little allegience to any schools, except for ND (if you grew up in IL, trust me, ND is thrown down your throat!).
  13. SWEET!!! Hey, does anyone know what this kid was ranked coming out of high school?
  14. Hmmm, who was that guy that was calling me crazy for thinking that anyone wanted to play for Cotton? This is great news.
  15. This is all pretty much true, high school stats often times dont mean a thing. Good post
  16. This whole post is full of .. Again, you want to debate this, create another thread and I will GLADLY talk about this. -- In any case, Gabbert is gone. We figured out what the smell was! PM me, no one else wants to read what we talk about. I would be happy to read what you have to say, no matter if its wrong or right. Like I said, I have coached for 10 years, read lots of books and been to mayn high school and college clinics and practices. Maybe you have too, I dont know, I think maybe we could both learn from each other. I know I dont know everything there is to know about football.
  17. The Gabbert issue that I have is that Watson really thought he had him locked up. Most of us Husker fans feel that since we have Andrew Green here that his brother is going to come here, it makes sense right? Well, doesnt it make sense that TG would want to go where his brother is at? It is just tough to pull brothers away from each other, every single day the older brother can chat with the younger one and start to change his mind. I don't fault TG at all, it is his choice and college is a tough choice for kids. I know it was for me. Some of us get on these kids way to much and then we get on the families too, with lines like "His parents should not let him decommitt". Well, think about that for a minute, if you were the kids mom/dad and he came to you and said "I think I made a bad choice, I think I want to go to a different school" would you really tell him no? I mean, its not like he even started school yet. Now, I know there is always the "he gave his word" and I get that. Put it in your own life though, what if you accepted a job and a few weeks later a different company calls and offers you, more money, or being closer to home, or better bonuses or working with your close friends or family. Do you just say no, or do you look into it?
  18. Wish I would have seen this post sooner. First off, Cotton is NOT gonna cost us any recruit. In fact, Cotton will cost us more recruits by being on this staff than he will if he leaves. Cotton is like the HS kid who is dorky and out of date with his slang, but still tries to be cool. Roll that up in a 50 year old man and you basically have Barney Cotton. Barney basically closes more doors than he opens on the recruiting trail. And I've said that since day 1 he was hired. FACT. What people do not realize is that Watson changed his offense mid-season so we could compete. When people asked we stop passing, we did. Once we did, people continued to bitch that we needed to open it up. But yet when we do pass, we are prone to turnovers which puts our defense in a hole. Watson is basically in a no win situation no matter what he does. Watson isn't some schmuck that doesn't realize what is going on. Nick Saban tried his hardest to get this guy on his staff. You can call Saban alot of things, but that guy is no idiot when it comes to coaching. This season was a complete cluster fook from the jump. An offensive line not technically sound and banged up. WRs not ready. RBs hit with dismissals and injuries. And a QB with the confidence of a 13 year old fat chic. Watson has earned his keep here. He has shown what he can do with his offenses and as a position coach. But in one year he went from offensive genius to the point he needs to be unemployed? Gimme a freakin' break. But none of this matters in a Gabbert thread. You want to debate me on this, create another thread and I'll gladly go into this more. -- Back to topic though -- anyone figure out what that smell was yet? HA Okay, so basically you are saying that Cotton is like every other kids father out there, dorky but means well. Yeah, kids dont want to come play for someone that like that. Your post is a mess! Every staff needs the "dorky everyman", they need the young guy, they need the bible thumper, they need the intense guy, they need the super serious guy, they need the "I have been there too" guy, you know why? Becuase they are recruiting ALL THOSE TYPES OF KIDS. Secondly, can we please get over this "Saban wanted Watson so bad" garbage, no, Saban wanted an OC that he could TOTALLY CONTROL. He, like all of us have found out, knew that Watson would run anything he wanted told him to, just like he did at CU (GB pretty much called and ran the offense) and just like he did at NU, with the exception of one year, a year where he had a very good stable of RB's, TE's, Senior WR's and a Senior QB that improvised on 75% of the pass routes. Saban is a control freak and wanted an OC that he could tell EXACLTY what he wanted done. You want to debate it, sure, knock yourself out, start a thread. Hell, first do me a favor and pull up all of Watsons stats as an OC, see if you still want to start a thread. I am not saying Watson is bad, its just that he is wishy-washy.
  19. First off, the spread has been run long before Leach went to Texas Tech. It pretty well has it's roots from LaVell Edwards and BYU in the 70's and 80's. Where did Leach graduate? BYU. Leach has added a little here and there, and is more aggressive with it than many, but it hardly started at Tech, or even within the last decade for that matter. The spread is the most overused term in football today. Leach offense is completely different than Urban Meyer's who's is completely different than Rich Rodriguez's, which is completely different from Missouri's. They may have the similar concept of forcing teams to defend the whole field and tackle in space, but so did Osborne's power running\option attack for that matter, and Johnson's option attack which aren't very similar either, yet get lumped together as option football. BYU was more WCO then spread, its all about hot reads/routes and timing/drops. It is an overused term I will give you that, but it is the correct term, its the idea of getting guys in space, like you said. Anywho, I am not saying you are wrong. I have coached for 10 years, maybe you have too, I dont know. Its just that I do study up, coach and go to clinics a lot.
  20. I think that people are forgetting things, with the exception of TT's spread offense, all the other spreads are starting to slow down with the numbers they put up. Look at UF, WVU, hell, look at every spread team in the nation with the exception of TT where the real spread was pretty much invented. It is clear that the defenses and defensive coaches are catching up to it. It will be next season that you see most spread teams, with the exception of TT, struggle a bit more. The points per game will come down, the yardage per game will come down and the turnovers will go up a bit. Mizzo and Gabbert got lucky that the Illini turned out to be one of the worst teams in the nation and that their non-conference gave them 4 wins. I am not saying that spread attack is done, its not, but it will not be as effective as it was two years ago. Those thinking that Mizzo will be good next year are going to be in for a shock when they finsih with 7-8 wins again. In the end, the only thing that you cant really stop is power football, unless you have a bunch of turnovers or your defense sucks. Just ask Bama.
  21. I wonder, what he would be saying if the Huskers kept trying to pass the ball and finished winning 5 or 6 games. I bet he would be saying that he wants to go play for a winner instead. When you decommit, it usually has to do with the coaches being canned or wanting to be closer to home or realizing that you never really wanted to be there in the first place. This kid has played sports for a long time, he is not dumb enough to think that a school would waste a scholly on a kid they didnt intend to use. He is giving NU the "Its not you, its me" break up speech. "I am not a big 6'3 WR...and I dont fit what you are trying to do..." Kids leave because they like something better and then they have a hard time admitting that so they rationalize it a different way. I think its fine, he should go where he really wants to be, college is a big choice, up until now in his life it is probably his biggest choice ever.
  22. If you had to guess, the statement that he makes about feeling that NU got screwed makes it sound like he feels somewhat attached to the team already.
  23. I would guess that this year, since there is no clear cut favorite, that they will invite 5 people. Tebow Mcoy Gerhart Ingram Those 4 for sure, then Suh Spiller are probably 5 and 6 that could or will be invited. But from what it sounds like, Suh is going to be invited for sure as well.
  24. I was actually seeing a little bit of what you were my friend. I was always taught to look another man in the eye when he is giving you advice, correcting you, whatever. Lee would not look Pelini in the eye. This is the moment he lost my total trust. Either he was that disrespectful that he would not look Bo in the eye while he was talking to him, or he was that afraid of Bo that he would not look him in the eye, which shows no fight. Either way i didn't like it. I have kind of stood by him, but I don't think he is our man any more. Come on man, this is wayyyyyyy over the top.
  25. I will give you that, if you can show me what the ball hit. All I saw was that the ball went behind a camera man, so we dont really know when it hit anything, do we?
