Looks legit as a QB

I think we are ok as of now. There are still two months till football even starts. Jus give it some tome. I really think that us NU fans have to realize that NU is simply NOT a "cool" program to incoming high school seniors. Hell KU has had more sucess in the last 4 years. NU is getting the recruits it can right now, they need one or maybe two more good, or very good years to start being on those kids minds. Think about it, what do most high school kids know of NU? They had a sh**ty coach who is gone, they got worked over on TV a few times last year and they dont win big games. Its going to take some time. I think recruiting wise we are doing pretty well. It just seems as though everybody is overly anxious for action. When everything is said and done I think everyone will be impressed with our class.

ESPN Grade of 68 Burgess has good height and weight for the tackle position but must improve his overall athletic ability, explosion and playing strength if he is to compete at the major level of competition. Lacks good flexibility in his stance and not quick off the ball; as a drive blocker his pad level is too high and he gets stalemated on contact but is a battler who works hard to finish blocks. Flashes some ability to gain leverage when reach blocking but will have problems with quick 1st and 2nd level defenders. Have yet to see him pull and trap; shows balance and plays on his feet well in space. Will have problems in pass protection and could possibly be moved to guard. Flashes quick set ability but plays to tall and must improve his knee bend. Inconsistent punch; leans in and needs to improve his hand placement and lockout technique. This is an aggressive player who must improve his playing strength if he is to compete successfully for a starting position. Burgess is a developmental player who will need time and a red shirt year to develop his athletic skills and physical strength if he is to eventually compete for a starting position. I'm from Florida and I cannot stand the hype Tebow gets. He is average QB at best. There were strong rumors that both Cameron Newton and their current second string QB are better talents than him (which was shown this spring game when he got out-performed in the spring game by the second string qb). He's not even the best player on the team according to Dan Muellen (he thinks Harvin was). He is just the face of a program with a Dominate defense, and world class skill players on offense. However he does do something great, and that is throw his arms up in air and scream yeah. But you are right lets go after Carter.

On the LSU boards they had a report on how he did at the camps. I'll paraphrase because I think the clipping Rivals pay info. But according to the analysis, they said that Carter could change at the drop of a dime; QBs had hard times throwing to up because he was so fast; and he had very good hands. However, Carter did have problems with man coverage and they said he needed to bulk up. The last tidbit was that he was all but guaranteed a 4th star in the next evaluation period.

I know we have a long wait on the Green kid from Texas, but I like that kid. And Jeff Luc...seems like he has a slow 40 time compared to some of the other guys we are trying to get at LB. I like guys who have more of a ten yard burst more at linebacker and are smart football players, so I don't like to judge a guy based solely on 40 times. Just something that stood out to me, but who knows maybe the other guys have skewed times and maybe his time was somewhat slower due to unknown reasons and he could be faster than that. It's nice to see the #2 SE guy looking at us though. Yea, I wouldn't put to much stock his 40 time. He looks as though he has enough speed, good range, great short area burst, and the list goes on. My only concern with him is his level of competition. I believe he does not play against 5A or 6A competition. However, he still looks legit and reminds me a lot of this years LB recruit

But I would love it if boliever was right. That would be a mean combo with Luc and Fehoko (who we seem to have a chance with).

Mysterious 'sewer creature' sparks curiosity bryozoan Posted: Jul. 1, 2009 Updated: Jul. 2, 2009 Raleigh, N.C. — It's reminiscent of something from the 1958 science-fiction film, "The Blob" – a beating, pulsating, mysterious, slimy mass that has grabbed widespread attention across the Internet. And it's growing and living in the sewer below Cameron Village in Raleigh. A 2-minute video of the clusters, taken in April, was posted onto YouTube a few weeks ago and has quickly made its way onto other social networking Web sites. The broadcast industry publication TV Week ranked it Wednesday as the No. 1 viral video on the Web. Speculation on YouTube as to what it might be ranges from a marketing ploy to promote a new alien movie to undocumented life form to a sewer monster. But a sewer monster, it is not. The city of Raleigh says the video – of a 6-inch sanitary sewer line – was taken in April during an inspection of a privately maintained sewer line in Cameron Village. Ed Buchan, an environmental coordinator with the city's Public Utilities Department, says the mass is believed to be tubifex worms, which form clusters or colonies of about a half-inch to 1-inch in diameter. Also known as "sludge worms," they are normally found in sediment of ponds and are sold as fish food in both live and dried forms. Thomas Kwak, a biology professor at North Carolina State University's Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, however, says the so-called monster is actually a cluster of invertebrates called bryozoan, which are commonly found in both the sea and fresh water environments. It's unclear how they got into the sewer system, but Kwak said it isn't surprising. The bryozoan feed off bacteria and thrive in cold, dark environments. Those in the video are smaller than a fist, but could grow as large as a watermelon, he said. "These organisms are completely harmless," Kwak said. "It's another interesting aspect of nature that we don’t' get to see every day." Buchan says that because the worm-like creatures don't pose a threat to the city's water quality, the city isn't requiring York Properties, which manages the system and Cameron Village, to remove them. Bo does not seem to be a guy that is up for settling. I get the feeling that they are going for the big fish on their board, now whether their beliefs of big fish coincide with the recruiting sites is up for debate. More than anything the staff is being very selective this year, and sometimes that means passing up on good talent for great talent. But the slowness of this recruiting cycle is frustrating.

I get the feeling that we may get 1 or 2 commits before the season begins. The staff seems to be very selective of who they want this year. But I think on the defensive side the staff is waiting for the season to begin to reel in some big fish. On the defensive side of the ball we should be legit this year, I just hope the recruits take notice.

Urell Johnson has reached double-digit offers By Sonny Shipp Louisiana Recruiting Analyst Posted Jul 1, 2009 O. Perry Walker in New Orleans, La. produces major college football talent as much as any other school in South Louisiana. The Chargers have a few prospects that are piling on the offers for 2010 and one is cornerback Urell Johnson. Urell Johnson made his mark on the field last season for O. Perry Walker and established himself as a lockdown defender when he picked off three passes and recorded 40 tackles. Johnson (5-11, 175, 4.5) gives himself that label and it seems that there are a number of college coaches who agree with him. “I can match up with the team’s best receiver and my coaches feel good about putting me on an island or putting me at safety,” Johnson said. “That’s what coaches have said they like about me the most.” The scholarship offers that Johnson has from the likes of Tennessee, Virginia, Baylor, Colorado, Nebraska, Southern Miss, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech, Virginia, Kansas State and Utah indicates that there are plenty of suitors that would like to land the three-star cornerback prospect. One other school of interest on Johnson’s radar is LSU and he feels that he impressed the coaches when he made his way to Baton Rouge in June for LSU’s camp. “I worked out for Coach [Ron] Cooper [defensive backs coach] and he said he liked what he saw and that I did good,” Johnson said. “He said they wanted to offer me. But I never got the chance to talk much with Coach [Les] Miles while I was there.” Johnson hopes to get more information on the status of his offer during the coming weeks and months when he makes a return trip to Baton Rouge – either unofficially or officially. That will be one of many trips that the country’s 79th ranked cornerback prospect will have taken over the course of the recruiting process. “I went to LSU’s camp then I just got back from Virginia,” Johnson said. “I enjoyed being up in Virginia and being with the players and coaches. [Grad Assistant] Coach [Devon] Fitzsimmons is from the New Orleans area so me and him bonded real fast. Then I met with [head] Coach [Al] Groh before I left and he just let me know that they were holding a spot for me. That was good to hear because I don’t want to rush into this decision.” Johnson has taken his time with sifting through the schools that have expressed an interest in him and at this point in time he doesn’t seem close to making a decision. “You go to places like LSU and Virginia and see everything then you wonder what other schools have,” explained Johnson. “I still feel like I’m wide open with all of this. “LSU is the hometown team and they got it going on over there, but I want to see what other schools have to offer when I take my official visits. ESPN grade of 79 Porter is a defensive tackle prospect who displays the ability to be disruptive in the trenches. He has good size. He could stand to add some bulk, but with his frame it would seem he could easily play in the 290-300 pound range. He gets off the ball well. He can be tough versus the run and is physical at the point of attack. Comes out of his stance and stays in a pretty good football position when engaging a blocker to maximize power. Does a good job with his hands and can create separation and shed. Does a good job of reading blocks and getting hands on blockers. Flashes the ability to get into the backfield and stay square and make a play on the ball. He displays a good motor and pursues to the ball and while he does not have great speed he can offer some support on the perimeter when he hustles. Displays adequate short-area change-of-direction skills. He is a solid tackler, but can over-run the play at times. As a pass rusher he will work to be active with his hands to try and club or rip by. He comes across as a kid who is active as a pass rusher and can supply pressure. Porter has some tools which should allow him to be a tough defender in the trenches. He has good size and a physical nature and displays a solid understanding of how to play the position and is a good prospect. Link

didn't see this one coming, thought he was ours oh well. but stanford is putting together something special. can't really argue with these kids, going to a school on the rise and get a world class education. hard to compete against.

The advantage we have over ND is that they typically don't go for dual threat QBs. Watson has shown that running qbs can definately fit our system. I personally belive that he will be ours if we still pursue him. That would be an amazing QB squad on paper with Green, Spano, Gabbert, and Robinson.
