  1. Meant Brian Kelly, should have been more clear
  2. Are you saying the fans are required to be pleased with the substandard recruiting every year? And I somewhat disagree with the keep on winning part. Minnesota and Iowa say hi. Unless you meant something else by winning. I mean winning by winning. Some fans consistently complain that our recruiting isn't good enough, yet only a handful of teams have won more games than Bo since he's been here. Only if you have a huge hand. We're tied for 18th in winning percentage since Bo arrived. If you factor in SOS we're in the 20 to 25 range in terms of quality since 2008. That's about where we end up in the rankings every year under Bo. He's never broken the 4 loss barrier so let's not make his accomplishments into something they are not. To his credit, he's done just enough to not get fired. Probably not the place for an extended debate, but the only BCS level coaches with more wins than Bo since 2008 are named saban, stoops, gundy, miles, kelly and meyer. When you consider that all of their programs have a reputation for cheating except for Kelly and Bo, that's pretty good company.

I want shiny recruits and championships as much as anybody, but the culture of negativity that has formed around our program is ridiculous and self-defeating. It's a wonder our coaches can recruit anyone given the consistent attacks from the media and fans that Bo isn't good enough and should be on the hot seat year after year. All the while, he keeps winning games at a rate matched only by some of the greatest coaches in the game.
  4. Two guarantees when it comes to husker football - fans will whine about recruiting every year and Bo and his guys will keep on winning. Sucks to lose this kid, but we'll be fine without him. Mod Edit: Moved from Clinkscales thread. Carry on.
  5. Great that we're keeping this kid and better that Joseph did the right thing.
  6. Tough loss. Good prospect at a need position. The only positive is that we have time left to replace him.
  7. Dude looked good in the state championship game. Big without being fat and fairly agile. Should be a good one.
  8. Well that's nice to hear.
  9. Yup, the significant on field contributions and depth provided by walk-ons has been obvious. It's less obvious how the spirit of the local kids influences the attitudes and work ethic of the out of state kids, but judging by the high overall effort and character we see from this team, you'd have to think it's taking effect.
  10. Oh cool, another debate about the reliability and importance of a recruit's listed 40 time. There have been countless number of successful skill players in both college and pro that ran unimpressive 40 times.
  11. KC - Sterup showed that he was good enough to start this year as a sophomore. He just happened to have three seniors ahead of him (which is a good thing). Jake Cotton would have started as a sophomore if not for injury. A-Rod played well enough as a junior at RT. Sam Cotton struggled with injury, but played significant minutes, and did pretty well, as a freshman. Banderas played as a freshman. Davie was looking good by all accounts and should be able to recover from the knee. Even among the walk-ons, the long brothers, burtch, and janovich all made an impact as under-classmen. There are obviously some nebraska kids that get scholarships that don't pan out, and there's some that take a while to develop, particularly at a position like OL that naturally favors upper classmen. However, I don't see any reason to think it's endemic to nebraska kids or at a greater rate than out of state kids. It's a hard decision to make on offering local kids, and I think our staff has done pretty well in this area. You're never going to be perfect in predicting which will pan out. And, yes, I find it amusing that after all the belly-aching about the cottons they turned out to be good players worth every bit of their scholarships.
  12. The number of errors in his tweet about academics is hilarious.
  13. And all these winning seasons are getting tiresome, right? It would suck to lose such a needed recruit and it sucks that the lack of support our admin gives our coaching staff is coming back to bite us, but I hardly think hitting reset and taking our chances with a new coaching staff is preferable. Hopefully we'll get a new DB coach soon that can help us reconvince this kid to play in Lincoln.
  14. Ouch. Pretty bad time to lose the coach for our biggest need position. Bo's got a good record with DB's and DB coaches though.
  15. Last I heard, the were discrepancies in the witness statements about what happened. That was a few months ago, and I'm not sure where the case is headed now. Lewis apparently pled to a misdemeanor. Assuming he manages to avoid further problems, that should give us an experienced tackle for the next couple of seasons.
  16. Slot WR, I would imagine. Ideally he would be what a healthy Jamal Turner was - a quick as snot weapon out of the slot that can be used in different ways. Obviously we have a need for a difference maker on punt returns also if he has the right combination of hands and brains.
  17. Ha, touché. To his credit, he was splitting time with a guy that was a top recruit and supposedly had a lot of potential. I think that may have played a role in the coaches continuing to favor arod. And to arod's credit, I think he developed into a pretty decent right tackle over the last couple of years. I do take tenopir's statement with a grain of salt, but choi was a pretty decent player for us.
  18. I would guess that Texas has enough money to buy their way out of that if they really wanted to. I'm guessing they'll try to buy briles out of Waco first though.
  19. And by the way, milt tenopir said choi would have been a multi-year starter in the 90's.
  20. So walk-ons playing is only good if they're all-Americans. Got it.
  21. If peat is waiting that long, you need to have a third one in the bag and make room for peat if he comes. I like this staff, I like our recruiting and I think that we are overall doing fine with OL, but it needs to be stocked every year. We have a unique advantage in the number of young men willing to walk-on at that position, but you still need to keep the scholarship numbers up. And I disagree with the post above that the walk-ons playing was a sign of a recruiting problem. Those kids were recruited, first of all, and they beat out scholarship players to get on the field.
  22. Unless they have new quotes, I'd hardly consider a newspaper putting him on a commit list as breaking news.
  23. 2012 was a small class, but we definitely had room for at least one more lineman. The staff may have thought they had Peat in the bag, but there still should have been another.
