  11. this article is very good advice to Bo and his team from Fox Sports link http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/1046484...a-to-beat-Texas "Pelini, Nebraska have the formula to beat Texasby Jeff Martin, Special to FOXSports.com add this RSS email print Updated: December 3, 2009, 12:17 PM EST 55 comments Bo Pelini is a proud man, some might say too proud. He hails from Youngstown, Ohio, a former Rust Belt steel mecca that fell on hard times beginning in the '70s, and its recovery has been gradual. The city's blue-collar ethos shaped Pelini, who, some would suggest, against all odds made it out via football, not only surviving but thriving. So don't even bother telling the Nebraska coach his No. 21 Cornhuskers are underdogs in this weekend's Big 12 Championship at The House Jerry Built against No. 2 Texas — because the concept is foreign. Ndamukong Suh headlines a formidable Nebraska defense. (Nati Harnik / Associated Press) "I don't pay attention," Pelini said. "I don't even know what that means. That's for the bookies in Vegas." Since he mentioned it, the Longhorns are 14-point favorites. Pelini isn't naïve — he understands UT is undefeated and on track for a berth in the BCS Championship game. But it's still football, and because there is still strategy involved and, you know, the actual game has to be played, he likes his team's chances. "Trust me — we're not playing this game to lose," Pelini said. "You can ask our guys in the locker room. That's up to you guys to say what you're going to say, and build it up how you want to build it up. We just want to take the challenge, line up and play, and let it all hang out." His stubbornness is well-documented, but that trait will only serve the second-year coach well this weekend. Don't deviate from anything you've done this season, Bo, because, really, the only way to find success and beat Texas is to maintain the status quo. It's a simple formula: be tough, run the ball and let the defense, a unit ranked 11th in the country led by dominant senior defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, do the rest. "They're probably the most physical team we've played," Brown said, a comment that likely will raise a few eyebrows in Norman, Okla. "Their offensive line's unbelievable. They line up and they're going to run the ball right down your throat and if you don't stop it, you won't see a pass." That's because Zac Lee, Nebraska's junior quarterback, is the consummate caretaker. His sole responsibilities are to not turn the ball over and hand the ball off to the Cornhuskers' stable of backs. The 'Huskers are led by junior Roy Helu Jr. (1,057 yards, 10 touchdowns) and bolstered by freshman Rex Burkhead, who was injured earlier in the season but ran for 100 yards and the winning touchdown in a 28-20 win against Colorado. "Texas has a high-powered offense and a great defense as well," Burkhead said. "... You want to try to control the pace of the game and hopefully move the ball up and down the field. That way, you can kind of keep their opportunities as low as possible." If so, the defense should be up for the rest. It should be fascinating — the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Year, Colt McCoy, on one side of the line of scrimmage, and Suh, the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year, on the other. "Ndamukong Suh is just an amazing player," Brown said. "Someone was asking about the Heisman, and he might be in that mix if they had a defensive player that could do it. He's huge and just dominates games ... When it's a defensive tackle and you're going into the game knowing that he changes the game, every play that you run you have to be aware of where he is and what he does." That, too, isn't any different for the Cornhuskers than the rest of the season. Take another look at Nebraska's schedule and the results. The Cornhuskers dominated Virginia Tech in Blacksburg before slipping up late in a 16-15 loss Sept. 19. They were inexplicably spanked at home, 31-10, by Texas Tech on Oct. 17, and then again at home a week later, doomed by eight turnovers in a 9-7 loss to Iowa State. Just think — if Hokies quarterback Tyrod Taylor fails to hook up with Danny Coale on a miraculous 81-yard pass to set up the winning touchdown, and if the Cornhuskers hold on to the ball one of the two possessions they were inside the 5 vs. the Cyclones, Nebraska is likely 11-1 heading into this showdown. "We have to put it together as a team and we have to play our best football all year to beat those guys." — Nebraska safety Larry Asante Sure, those are silly hypothetical scenarios, but the outcome of both games was fluky in nature. The Cornhuskers admit they were encouraged by what Texas A&M accomplished against Texas last week, extending the Longhorns before fading late in a 49-39 final. But it would be a mistake to mimic what the Aggies did because the personnel is entirely different. A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson made plays with his legs and right arm and nearly won the game doing so — no chance Pelini places Lee in a position to do the same. Instead, Nebraska should reflect upon this year's Red River Shootout, a low-scoring, violent affair that was ultimately claimed by McCoy and the Longhorns, 16-13. Texas had 42 rushing yards, and McCoy threw for just 127 yards and was intercepted twice. To most, it was ugly. But Pelini would be able to find the beauty in a similar effort. "I believe we have to play mistake-free defense, and we have to play mistake-free offense, too," senior safety Larry Asante said. "Special teams, too. We have to put it together as a team and we have to play our best football all year to beat those guys." In other words, don't change a thing. Remain stubborn. Stay proud, Bo. 12. Does McCoy look little to you? Can he take Suh and Crick falling on his leg? Will a gimpy McCoy be the key to beating Texas. I like to see these little QBS limping around after Suh falls on them a few times! just sayin lookout Colt!
  13. I hope to see the holding penalty reinstated for the game since both Suh and Crick have been double teamed and held on almost every play with no flags
  14. check Sunday for details http://www.huskeralum.org/travel/bowltravel/index.shtml
  15. I would start with the NU Alumni pkg travel with team cheerleaders and pep rally AAA I would leave from Lincoln airport if possible free parking less congested

  17. the fans are lead by a man that oozes class TO Osborne issues statement on retiring Bowden « Blog - Sports Writers Digg Newsvine del.icio.us Reddit Facebook Twitter Filed by Mitch Sherman at 2:36 p.m. Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne released a statement today about longtime friend Bobby Bowden, who announced his retirement today as Florida State football coach. "I've been in communication with Bobby Bowden over the last few weeks and realize that this has been a difficult situation for him," Osborne said. " Football has lost a great representative, but at the same time Bobby, and all of us who know him and care about him, can reflect with admiration on his remarkable career. "Bobby accomplished a standard of excellence that is unparalleled in major college football. Having played his teams on several occasions, I can attest to the excellence of his coaching and his preparation. On top of his outstanding won-loss record, Bobby has always been an excellent role model and has stood for the highest standards in athletic competition. I wish Bobby and his family well." Osborne, 72, and Bowden, 80, matched coaching wits eight times, including bowl games after the 1987, 1989, 1992 and 1993 seasons. FSU won all four bowl games and split four regular-season games in Lincoln with NU in 1980, 1981, 1985 and 1986.
  18. Impressive no doubt! But i think wew should show up and play the game and hope that the Huskers and Texas read this article!
  19. Mack brown will say how great we are and we should be a real problem and Suh is a football god and they intend to hold Crick and Suh and double team theam them both just like CU did and he will thank the Big 12 for suspending all holding calls
  20. the Big 12 refs are not going to let Texas lose!
  21. can this actually be true? Published Sunday November 29, 2009 NU ranked 20th, 21st « Blog - Sports Writers Digg Newsvine del.icio.us Reddit Facebook Twitter Filed by Mitch Sherman at 1:17 p.m. The polls are out and, as expected, Nebraska has returned to the Associated Press rankings, perhaps even a spot or two higher than expected. NU is 21st, jumping six spots over weekend losers Mississippi, Utah, North Carolina, Clemson and Oklahoma State. NU also vaulted Stanford, which beat Notre Dame Saturday night. Shows what the voters think of the Irish, considering that the Huskers' victory came against 3-9 Colorado. The Huskers moved up three spots to No. 20 in the USA Today coaches' poll. Texas remains ranked third by the AP and second by the coaches. Here's an interesting fact about the Big 12 championship game (we'll provide a new one every 24 hours or so on the blog until kickoff Saturday night): Mack Brown of Texas, in 25 years as a head coach at Appalachian State (1983), Tulane (1985-87), North Carolina (1998-97) and UT (1998-present), has won one conference title. That, of course, came with the Longhorns in 2005, when Texas advanced to beat Southern Cal for the national title in Pasadena, Calif, site of the title game this year
  22. I very much like Watson and the power heavy formations. They are very fortunate to have Coach Brown. Our tight ends remind me of the road gaders who used to clear a path. With TO dropping off cookies, this could really evolve iinto a an unstoppable force. And, with Bo's defense, if that happens it makes one droll with glee and anticipation! order restored
  23. I will go with you on that one. If they can get to McCoy a few times it is over! He is not big enough to tak a few Suh hits
  24. I have watched every Texas and Husker game that was on TV this season. I also watched every Big 12 televised game. We have a lot to give thanks for as fans. I think it is time we were thankful for where we are today! It is time to forget about the micro analysis and get behind our Huskers. It is payback time and we have a real chance. Bo wins games like this. He is a money player! After watching KU throw for 500 yards and get beat I have concluded that we are yes that good to play with anyone. So, hey, let us all give thanks for being less than a week away from playing for the Big 12 Championship. It is a dream come true this Thanksgiving. And the turkey lefovers work so well with a husker victory! Thanks Bo, the players and staff! You have worked hard and you do deserve this game.
