  1. I saw this on the subscriber board over at TechSideline, and I wanted to share with our Husker friends ... http://web.me.com/rock.roszak/Virginia_Tec...ss_of_2001.html In Memoriam -- Captain David Seth Mitchell, Class of 2001 The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets is profoundly saddened by the loss of Marine Captain David Seth Mitchell, Class of 2001. Captain Mitchell died on October 26th while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He is the fourth member of the Cadet Class of 2001 we have lost since graduation. Captain Mitchell began his time at Virginia Tech in Echo Company, rising to become the Executive Officer to Golf Company during his senior year. He was a member of the German Club and was the male member-at-large to the 2001 Ring Design Committee. The regiment conducted a moment of silence for Captain Mitchell at our Tuesday morning formation. Later that day, the Marine Raiders Company conducted an Honor Detail to place a memorial wreath at the Cenotaph on the Virginia Tech War Memorial in Captain Mitchell’s honor (photos below). A Pylon Dedication Ceremony is tentatively scheduled for April 9th of next year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Captain Mitchell’s family. Ut Prosim.
  2. Haha ... Is he actually watching this OU/Texas game? Y'all look like the best team in the Big 12 compared to what I'm watching.
  3. Hokie Nation are Sooner fans today, because if we keep winning, we need Texas to slip up. But I'm wondering who y'all are pulling for. Do you have any big interest in either team winning or losing? Or are you generally indifferent?
  4. Dude is an absolute beast - definitely the best D-lineman I've seen this year.
  5. That is indeed true - at FedEx Field (where the Redskins play). Syracuse wanted out of the contract we had with them, so this is an improvement to the 2010 schedule.
  6. I think there is a vocal minority who is overconfident. I can tell you that the vast majority of Hokies don't feel super comfortable about this game. Yeah, I'm definitely not expecting a blow out either.
  7. I am truly bi-polar about this game. It's a huge game for Georgia Tech, it's a home game for them, and they've added a number of wrinkles in their offense (which, IMO, we were able to shutdown last year). On the flip side, their defense is dreadful, and I think Bud Foster is one of the best X's & O's guys when it comes to game planning AND in-game adjustments. It's going to be a chess match of adjustments between Paul Johnson & Bud Foster. I like what I'm hearing from our coaching staff, tho. They've changed up their preparations this week to spend more time against the scout team at full speed to get better prepared for GT's offensive speed. Also, even though we're a fast defense, we're not a wrecklessly fast defense (ie: a FSU defense ... which isn't even that fast this year). Foster's scheme is all about discipline, so I think we're as good a match-up as any against Georgia Tech's offense. I'll take Foster as an gameday coach (ie: he knows how to adjust to the opponent in-game) any day, so I think the first 10 minutes of the game is going to set the tone of this one. If we can get out of the first quarter with a lead, or a close ball game, I'll feel pretty good about it. If we go into the 2nd quarter down by 10 or more ... I'm going to be sweating bullets.
  8. Jebus, if you listen to those Jacket fans you'd think we raped their sisters. There is some serious hate from some of their fans. Anywho, just wanted to stop by ... y'all are way more fun. Go Huskers, beat them Red Raiders!
  9. Thanks for the props guys. It's been awhile where we completely and utterly dominated an opponent like that. (BC had 3 total yards in the 1st half.) It made for a fun afternoon in the stands.
  10. Wow, y'all really ripped the hearts out of Mizzou fans last night. Did the offense finally eat their Wheaties between the 3rd & 4th quarters?! Great win, tho - I'm really happy for you guys. And, I just wanted to say this ... your defense is dirty good. Good luck next Saturday against the Red Raiders. At least you have a few extra days to prepare for them.
  11. Can someone point me in the direction of your future schedules? After missing last year's VT game in Lincoln, I'm determined to go to Lincoln to see a game in the next few years.
  12. I saw the scores on Saturday and smiled when I saw Nebraska 55, Louisiana-Lafayette 0. Great way to bounce back from the tough loss last weekend. I hope y'all build on that and roll over Mizzou & Texas Tech. It looks like we might have a replay of 2007 with the craziness in the top 10, so it should be a fun year of college football. I'm hoping we can build on our win over Miami, because I think we got our 3 toughest opponents out of the way. Btw, I noticed that many of you enjoyed our dismantling of Miami, so I thought you'd chuckle at this:
  13. I'm really kicking myself for not making the trip out to Lincoln last year. I'm tempted to just make a trip out there at some point.
  14. Hey Huskers, I know exactly how you felt on Saturday at the end of that game. Two years ago we had Boston College (who was #2 at the time) beat on a cool, rainy Thursday night in Blacksburg. We were winning late, we dominated the line of scrimmage - it seemed like it was all coming together. Then Matt Ryan brought them back from the dead. It was a horrible way to lose a game. For us, we exorcised some of those demons on Saturday, but I honestly felt a little bit guilty stealing from you. I really enjoyed meeting some of your fans over the weekend, and I've heard nothing but good things about the Nebraska fans that made the trip. Truly a classy bunch. Putting the end of the game aside, I hope your fans enjoyed Blacksburg. I'm curious to hear what some of them thought of their trip. I'll be following your Huskers the rest of the season. I hope y'all make some noise in the Big 12 this year!
  15. I'll be leaving work in a few hours and making the 2 hour drive to Blacksburg shortly thereafter. Doubt I'll be on here much between now and Sunday (I'm planning on stopping back here, win or lose). I'm looking forward to hanging with your husker faithful that make the trip. I hope we treat 'em well and that they enjoy trip (with the exception of the outcome the game). Have enjoyed hanging out here this week. Y'all got some real cool cats. B) PS: My prediction - 38-27 VT. I think we're going to see more offense than most people think.
  16. I dunno. 99% of people on that Facebook page are prolly college students, so I dunno what they're thinking. We pride ourselves on having a very loud stadium for only having ~66k seats. I guess any perceived dismissal of that has their panties in a bunch. Personally, I didn't read anything into Bo's comments. I'm going to go and scream my head off just cuz it's a big game, not because of anything Bo said.
  17. And I have chills thinking about our running backs running outside, making your young linebackers whiff, and screaming down the sideline into the endzone. ... all in good fun ... I can't wait until Saturday.
  18. Just a little extra motivation for us to be loud, although I think most of our fans don't read too much into that. He's right, we don't play the game, but we think we do. "Man, I just hate losing here," Anderson said. "I don't like losing to these fans. They think they play, too. That's what's good about playing for Virginia Tech... (Syracuse QB RJ Anderson, 2003)
  19. What he said: Seriously, y'all stop our running game and you'll have us by our ..... However, I think that's easier said than done.
  20. I think you mean Jayron Hosley (our punt returner).
