  1. One reason Huskers might not be relevant is that their fans bring up the topic of how they are still relevant.
  2. You can ask Texas A&M & Missouri too. Glad we are leaving the BIG12, but will miss the tournament games in KC.
  3. I think we could hang 70 on KU just as easily without Pinkel. He didn't even seem drunk in the arrest vid posted on youtube. Mu is graduating 20+ seniors this year and Pinkel won't be on the sidelines with them on Senior day. That and 300K in penalties is more than enough punishment IMO.
  4. I recall debating this same issue when MU was a B10 hopeful. I think this was a bigger deal for us because MU is probably more dependent on Texas recruits than any other Non-Texas school. Most thought MU's relationship with HS coaching staffs in Texas trumped conference affiliation. The same is true for Nebraska. Win on the field and your relationships you've already established in Texas will continue to bear fruit. I'll also mention though that while MU was flirting with the B10 it was never discussed that the B12 would change to a round-robin schedule after the realignment. I'm not saying the schedule change hurts other teams outside the B12 much, but playing a minimum of four Texas teams a year certain helps MU a little with recruiting.
  5. I can't speak for all fan bases but I haven't seen a single thread or statement from a MU fan regarding this particular dilemma. Tiger fans are more concerned as to who is going to replace Nebraska as the most anticipated football matchup. Nebraska will do well this year. The Wisconsin game is going to be one of the highlights of the 2011 CFB season. Martinez will be a lot more fun to watch now that he is in a different conference.
  6. We have it too though! Some dude named Ed Stewart presented the trophy to Gary Pinkle during the half of last night's MU basketball game. Can you believe Beebe didn't even show!?
  7. I'm not sure why Nebraska got picked over but I'm glad it happened. The MU fanbase is pumped and will most likely sell out their allotment. If I was the one picking bowl games I would have switched aTm and NE, but kept MU where they are. I think that would have made for much better games.
  8. I'm positive the Lamar Hunt trophy goes to the AFC Champions. The winner of the border war receives the indian war drum. They get the Indian War Druma and the Lamar Hunt Trophy (obviously a different one). The LHT is a more recent trophy designed after the death of Lamar Hunt, whose idea it was for MU/KU to be played in Arrowhead.
  9. It's always been this way. Even in the BIG 8. It's not a good thing. I know MU wasn't happy about sharing the championship with Nebraska in 69'. But we had the tie breaker and went to the Orange Bowl that year.
  10. If you were to sort this list by least to most, you'll notice that NORTH teams are all on top (least amount of help from the Refs). I'm not sure what this means, if anything, but it is interesting.
  11. I can't say I understand why Pinkle would send the video for review. 1. There is nothing clear cut about it. 2. Gabbert is fine. 3. He won't be facing the Huskers again anytime soon. It's over with.....move on.
  12. I still had a really good experience in Lincoln and I loved the stadium/atmosphere. When a game starts off that poorly there really isn't much to hope for the rest of the game. So that was a dissapointment. Our defense seemed to revert back to it's old self. Nebraska played really well on both sides of the ball. To top it off they nearly completely dominated special teams. In fact I think if Helu hadn't had such a huge day the story of the game would have been how Nebraska won because they consistently had better field position. Congrats Nebraksa and good luck the rest of the season.
  13. Gabbert had a poor game but his effort was the best I've seen. Those corner blitzes were devastating. Much credit goes to the blackshirts. Gabberts will be in the ice tube all week, but he never gave up.
  14. I haven't heard a stadium that loud since Chiefs/Indy Playoff game in 2003. It was a great atmosphere.
  15. You are the second person on this thread to say that Husker and Tigers fans will disolve all relations after this game. Are you from some really small town in Nebraska? I live in Shawnee, KS. I know a dozen NE fans personally. Co-workers, neighbors, my wife's best friend. I'm not going to talk to them about CFB anymore? Well, I guess that could be the case if MU loses. My next door neighbor is a Hawkeye, I talk to him about CFB all the time even though our teams are in different conferences.
  16. ...So? No offense, but I have yet to meet a Nebraska fan that really cares what others think of why we are leaving the conference or what those in the Big XII will say after. You seem to think we care when we really don't. If we lose (which is definitely a possibility, MU is looking good), Missouri will have bragging rights. Yay...who cares besides Missouri? Nobody. Texas already has bragging rights...who cares beyond Texas? Nobody. You won't let us forget by, what, coming to a message board for a team that is no longer even in your conference? Or you'll randomly drive up to Nebraska just to gloat? If the second is the case, thanks for the influx of money into our state's economy. I'm genuinely curious how you're never going to let us forget. We are going to flood your mailboxes with letters every Halloween. Obviously if you never speak to a MU fan about football again it wouldn't be an issue. After everything Knapp has had to say I wouldn't doubt if that was the case; since most CB fans don't consider us a program yet. It's too depressing to think about actually. I'm out.
  17. It has never been more clear what MUs place is then right now. We just knocked off a number one, set a Gameday attendance record, huge TV ratings in STL/KC and are the number 2 team according Jeff Saragin's ratings. Still we are 7+ pt dogs this Saturday and only a handful of the respectable media think we can win. Is that because Nebraska really is that much more impressive this year or because of your history? What does MU have to do to be relevant in your opinion? Win a MNC and get a Heisman winner? If they did both in the next five years would you consider them worthy of the marquee? Or would their pitifull performance in the 70s, 80s and 90s still taint them? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a win tomorrow wouldn't change a thing.
  18. I'm not really sure I got my point across as well as I'd liked with this thread. I thought of an analogy that may help. If a book were to be written about all the craziness of the conference realignment of 2010, I don't think a MU loss to NE would even be mentioned. I believe a MU win over NE would dominate most of the final chapter. Really Nebraska fans should take it as a compliment (just as DJR313 expressed). Nebraska beating Missouri really isn't news at a national level. Missouri handing NE a final loss on their way out will open up so many questions.
  19. Nobody cares about CU in Missouri. Honestly I had forgotten they were even leaving. I think I recall a post or two containing a sentiment that it was nice we shut them out for the last time. In general though no one really took notice. If they were a Pre-Season Top 10 it would have been different. Actually it was the Gov of Missouri that first started headlines by bascially pimping MU to the BIG Ten in a press conference. After that it got out of control.
  20. I suspect, win or lose, we (the Husker fans) will be here. But only in one of those scenarios will Mizzou fans show up (and probably a lot more than are here now) except for the honored few that we see here all year. I suspect Mizzou will lose about 75% of its support after the loss tomorrow, at least until next fall. Honored or not, I'll be here Sunday to give my analysis of the game....regardless of the outcome.
  21. I'm no Nostradamus, I'm just taking my best guess about what will be said. My next guess is that after MU wins tomorrow you all are going to be thanking me for letting you prepare your defenses in advance.
  22. If Nebraska wins tomorrow I believe this game becomes somewhat forgettable. Nebraska will have bragging rights over MU, which they have always had anyway. Nebraska almost certainly goes to the CCG which will be a great transition statement. However, overtime I don't think people will remember beating MU as the key that got NE into the CCG. If Nebraska loses, this game will be remembered forever. MU will not let you forget. The BIG12 will not let you forget. Nebraska's entire motivation for leaving the BIG12 will be put in doubt. People will say you left because you couldn't win the conference anymore. Missouri had won the North 3 of last 4 years. Nebraska had only been to the CCG twice in the last decade and had lost both times. It was becoming increasingly obvious that NE was MU's b*tch. Etc, etc. Of course that is all hyperbole.....but it will be said and it will be said often. Just some food for thought. No pressure tomorrow guys.
  23. Can NU keep Aldon out of the backfield? No you can't. But I don't expect to see him back there too much. It doesn't do Aldon any good to get back there by himself because T-Mart is too athletic. They'd risk T-Mart exploding past the rusher for a huge gain. Aldon and the rest of the D-line will be staying in their lanes to keep T-Mart in front and making him beat them with his arm.
  24. I cannot wait for our Missouri friends to vilify Smith for this statement, in much the same way they have vilified Martin for his hit. He wasn't even talking about football. He was talking about listening to Bob Marley with his friends. JK. The statement is so oddly worded that I don't even know what to make of it. If he is saying he loves the sound of hitting the QB....well what defender wouldn't? If he is saying he likes the sound they make after causing an injury then that's twisted. BTW - I don't know if Aldon has ever injured a player (other than their pride).
  25. 2nd row behind the MU bench. I'm sure the Husker faithful are not going to be too pleased about me and my gold clad brother sitting there.
