  1. Huh? If anything gun rights are increasing since the mid-90s. Really, do tell? There are more and more shall issue concealed carry states. Sunset of the Brady Bill (the so called assault weapons bill). The Supreme Court specifically said that the 2nd amendment is a personal right and NOT just applicable to the National Guard. The Supreme Court will likely soon issue an opinion that will state that the 2nd amendment is also applicable to state gun restrictions and not just to federal legislation. Shall I go on or is that sufficient for you? I just know that I have fill out long purchase orders when buying guns, even to this day, and that there are firearms that I may or may not like to purchase that I am not able to. IF gun restrictions are loosening, it isn't enough for me.
  2. By the way, I wasn't kidding about this. I'd like to have an honest discussion with whomever has voted my posts in this thread down. I'm not going to do anything to you, I just want to know your reasoning. Remember that the Reputation feature is still on probation. Random votes up or down without valid reasons will get the whole system axed. Feel free to PM me, without fear of vengeance, if you'd rather not discuss it here. Thanks. It may have been me(I can't remember) simply because I disagree with some of what you said. I guess I don't know much about the reputation deal, what is it, can it get someone banned or something? Banned? NO!!!! Absolutely not. Please don't even think about that. People are safe from any retribution with this system. The absolute worst that can happen is that if people are using it as a tool to "get back at" each other we'll just turn it off. The most likely thing that'll happen is that we'll change it so you can only give positive feedback to people. Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hijack. Sorry, I just used it when I disagreed with a post. Maybe I'm doing that incorrectly/

  5. Like they tell you that you have to wear a motorcycle helmet or that you have to buy a building permit to add on to your house? How is this different than any other government mandated rule or requirement? Which part of the bill requires this? Which part of the bill gives the government the right to your medical records? This sounds like the bar owners telling us they'd all go out of business when Lincoln passed the smoking ban a few years back. All the major bars downtown are still in business, near as I can recollect. I can't quote exacts at this time, some of this is looking at worse case scenarios. I have a great distrust for government, and anything it puts its hands on. Some of them have not been presented yet, but all you have to do is look at gun control and how it becomes more intrusive every day (frog in the pot of water). The major problem is that this bill does not make health care more affordable, and it COULD (likely will if you look at government's track record) lead to some pretty bad happenings. I think that the national health record database is something that Obama has done even prior to this bill, but don't quote me on it.
  6. The problem is, people choose not to have health insurance, but that doesn't prevent them from needing health care. When they inevitably need it and they can't afford it, who pays? So, Big Brother needs to make the responsible people pay for those who are irresponsible, by enacting this bill?
  7. Lest we forget that the whole reconciliation process the Dems used is quite possibly unconstitutional.
  8. Simply because now the government tells me that I HAVE to have health insurance, regardless of whether I want it or not, regardless of who will pay for it. It take that choice away from me. Just wait until you have to have a procedure okayed by a government panel instead of a doctor before you can have it done. Oh, and now ALL of your medical records will be in the GOVERNMENT'S database (can you say invasion of privacy). If that isn't good enough, just wait for doctors to quit practicing because they won't be able to deal with the government red tape. There is a reason why Canadians USED to come to the USA for healthcare, even though they have a government-run health care system.
  9. By shifting financial responsibility from the national level to the state. This from the same entity that ADMITS that there is $500 million annually worth of waste in Medicare. The next government controlled plan that works better AND saves money will be the first, and this isnt it. Exactly. I would trust our government a lot more if they had any sort positive track record with any major program they've tried to install. Good call. We have Medicare and Social Security that will likely become insolvent in the near future, and instead of working on fixing those 2 abominations, Congress wastes more money in a time of recession. And this does NOTHING to make HEALTH CARE more AFFORDABLE. This is not about healthcare, its about government controlling our lives. I firmly believe that the socialists running the country want to make us subservient to the government.

  11. It certainly seems to support the notion that NU will be looking to run more of a spread offense this year. Both good questions, maybe it will help the run game, maybe the coaches decided that they needed someone who could actually run decent routes, get open, AND catch the ball. It was painful to watch this offense at times last year. I just hope that he'll be as effective as he was at tight end, or be able to produce number like a Todd Peterson.
  12. I disagree to a certain extent. Embarrassing losses to FSU, Miami, UCLA, and Ga Tech showed Dr. Tom that even though his teams could beat up and win the Big 8, it could not do the same to the southern teams that had great speed. So he did what any smart coach would do, emulate the best in the business at the time. He slowly changed from the read and react 5-2 to an attacking 4-3, but it took TO and McBride a few years to get the proper players and to get the schemes figured out. Yes, TO and Bobby were pretty good friends and consulted each other regularly, but it's not as if Bobby Bowden drew up a whole new play book for NU's defense, and should be given credit for the 90's succcess.
  13. Didn't the 3rd district give Dr. Tom about 90% of the popular vote when he was running for congress? I think that him losing in his run for governor was due to the fact that he was running against a very popular, very successful incumbant, who happened to be more conservative than Dr. Tom. IMHO
  14. Obviously you don't lose a player like this and NOT feel it, to some degree, but look back to 93-94. We lost another all-time great player in Trev Alberts, but ended up with another great defense and a National Championship in 94. I think that losing Suh, along with the others "up the defensive middle" will hurt. The defense really seemed to come together once Dillard was put into the starting lineup, and Asante and O'Hanlan were solid to spectacular most of the season. But such goes the business of college football, hopefully we will be able to reload.
  15. Very true, and being here for the Spring practice will help trememdously, which Farley did not do. I wish that David would have been able to make it here for Spring practice and winter conditioning. It really, really helps those guys get acclimated to the team, campus, conditioning, etc, and seems to get them a leg up.
  16. Jay Norvell???? You're joking, right? For DC's I could see a 3 way fight between Bo, Monte, and Charlie McBride (he was okay, too, ya know). John Blake as recruiting coordinator? I'm not so sure about that. While the guy could probably sell ice to an Eskimo, the "talent" brought in while he was here never turned out to be much. Dr. Tom was a much, much, MUCH better evaluator of talent than John Blake ever was. But he would be the best OC we could have, so he might have to wear 2 hats. What can I say? I think the guy is a good coach and I liked the offenses he put on the field. In 2006 Norvell had NU’s offense ranked 14th nationally. I don’t know if you remember the Callahan years, but our offense wasn’t the problem. Norvell even had OU ranked 23rd in total offense last season—--with RS freshman Landry Jones at QB, a committee of RBs, and a whole new set of WRs from the year before. Who would you choose instead? You’ve said who you don’t like. Are there any NU coaches who you do like? Unfortunately, I remember that Callahan was the coach here, but I don't remember alot of specifics. I do remember that the offense pretty well sucked most of the time. Just briefly looking through his 3 years here as "OC," NU averaged under 30 points per game (maybe someone can help me here?), but I remember games where the offense struggled mightily against powerhouses like Maine and ISU. Or games against OU or USC where the offense never did anything. Norvell is the WR coach and I guess the co-OC at OU. Besides, he was OC in name only here, Callahan called the plays. I'm not sure if you remember, but the West Coast Offense at Nebraska never worked well and WAS a problem. Yes, there were a few games sprinkled in here and there that were gems (usually against Div-1 AA opponents), but for the most part, it was junk, no matter who the coach was: Callahan, Norvell, or Watson. Go back and look at the stats and scores from 04-07, less than impressive. Dr. Tom is the best OC NU has ever had. I would bet the farm that he could put together a offense that would score 40 points per game, easily. That’s the thing. A lot of folks don’t remember that we had a pretty good offense under Callahan. At least, during his final two years. The first two years pretty much sucked, both on offense, and to a lesser extent defense (2005 defense wasn’t too bad). But by 2006-2007 our offenses were pretty good. But our defenses sucked. Big time. The 2007 Blackshorts defense may have been the worst defense ever for NU—but the offense was pretty good. In 2007 we scored 31 on #1 ranked USC and scored 39 on #8 ranked KU, but got beat soundly both times. Look at the CU game: We hung a half a hundert on CU in Boulder—And they beat us! (51-65). Not the offenses fault in any of those three losses. Consider the overall offense and defensive ranking for our last two years of Callahan: 2006 total offense: 14 2006 total defense: 56 2007 total offense: 9 2007 total defense: 112 Our defense sucked. Our offense was pretty good. As for TO being the offensive coordinator, I wouldn’t say that’s a bad choice at all. Dr. Osborne built one of the most potent offenses in the history of college football—The 1983 Scoring Explosion. His offenses from the middle 90’s were very good, but maybe not great. The great Blackshirt defenses 92-95 helped out our offenses considerably. But I would prefer an offense that can pass as well as run. That’s why I gave Norvell the nod. I think we'll agree to disagree on that, but 2 points I must make: 1) Watson was the "OC" (in name only) in 2007, (I believe that Norvell was at UCLA) and many of those points did come in junk time, 2) the offenses NU had back in the mid 90's were much better than very good, they were flat out dominant from the first stringers to the fourth stringers. I believe that the 95 team actually had better overall numbers against better competition than the 83 offense, and probably would have had even better numbers if they didn't play the reserves for 2/3rd's of most games.

  19. Seriously? You think our two-conference-win basketball team would perform better in the Big 10 than the Big 12? (Don't get me wrong, I agree with you on all other counts. But no way our basketball team would do better in the Big 10.) Don't get me wrong, I know that our men's b-ball team is a disaster and NO win will come easy, but I think that the Big 12 is a stronger basketball conference than the Big 10. That's all I was saying. I did overlook the fact that fotball recruiting would be more difficult in the Big 10. My bad.
  20. Good, screw the Texas 12! As much as I can't stand the Big 10, economically, it makes much more sense to go to the Big 10. It would be a much easier conference to win in for: 1) football 2) basketball (at least this year) 3) baseball 4) volleyball (except for Penn State). The only problems I can see are travel, baseball exposure, and the football style played in the Big 10 is not conducive to winning National Championships, and we may have to change coaching/recruiting philosophies. If people think that Tom Osborne is asleep at the wheel, they'd better think again. The man is sneaky, sneaky smart, and he has not liked the Texas 12 since its inception.
  21. I'm afraid that Matt has kindof maxed out his potential, and his shot at having an NFL career is long. Perfect example of really good coaches getting the most out of a player. I wish him the best and hope he can, but it's gonna be tough.
  22. I remember back when NU was dominating the 90's, I read an article where TO mentioned that they moved from distance running, to running "gassers," which essentially were running as fast and as far as they could in a few seconds, for conditioning. It made sense to me, as football plays are going for 6 or 7 seconds as hard as you can, and they have 40 seconds in between for rest. Duplicating that in conditioning only makes sense. Just another epic fail of the previous regime.
  23. Is anyonelse concerned that about 8 of the 21 recruits are slotted to play on the DL? Kindof heavy IMO.
  24. I caught some of the Tobi Okuyemi call on 1620 yesterday and I agree with this, at least on his part. He sounded very mature, sounded like he knew what he wanted and how to work to get it, and that he'll have a chance to earn PT with hard work. If all the kids in this class are like that, we've signed a group of guys that no star system can measure. I did listen, and the kids did sound good and mature. But they also committed weeks or months ago, and as far as I know, they didnt have their faces splayed all over ESPN.
