  1. can you discuss further, with some specifics? Do you think that it doesn't cost NU more to charter busses or fly to Dallas as opposed to KC? Again, with the TV revenue, TU and A&M are going to get more TV time then ISU or KSt. due to their market share earning them more money.
  2. But when conferences are formed, isn't there some give and take? I mean, wouldn't it be natural for the most powerful at the table tend to pursue their interests? I mean, isn't that a bit of human nature? What is the Prop 48 program by the way? How was NU damaged? Maybe there is some negotiation, but when a school is invited to a league because THEIR league went belly up due to it being corrupt, and that point you live by the rules of the league that is successful. Besides, there was no give and take. None. TU dictated what it want, and it got it. EVERYTHING NU voted against was voted in by the rest of the league. If you don't know what Prop 48 is, this is really a dead issue, and you really need to research what happened when the league was formed. Was NU damaged????? WFT, you tell me. Is it an coincidence that NU went from the most feared, bad-assed, ass-kicking program of the mid 90's to a team struggling to regain national prominance. Getting rid of the Prop 48 rule was meant to SPECIFICALLY hurt NU's football program, and it did.
  3. Is your beef with Texas as in the state? Or Texas as in UT? Last I checked, Austin is not a suburb of Dallas. It's a 3 hour trip to Austin from Dallas. 90 minutes to Baylor. 2.5 hours to A&M. 3 hours to Norman. 4 hours to Stillwater. 6 hours to Tech. Hopefully you get the point: The University of Texas IS NOT in Dallas. DFW has direct, non-stop flights to most of these markets. Kansas City DOES NOT. DFW is the home of MANY headquarters - not just the Big 12. Get over it. The championship game being in Arlington is NOT a slight against Nebraska any more than it would be against any other team in the conference. NOTE: The University of Texas IS NOT in Arlington. This is a WONDERFUL venue and if we are fortunate to get their most years, it will be HUGE for our Texas fan base, and HUGE for Texas and Oklahoma area recruiting. I don't know much about all the TV revenue talk, but I'll take your word for it on that one. That's about the only sensible beef I've actually heard. I am aware UT is not in Dallas, but its about the same as saying NU is not located in Omaha or Grand Island, still a home game. UT is the big game down there. I guarantee Texas was the major player in getting things moved to the state. Sure its close to all the Texas schools, and farther for all the north schools. Makes it cheaper for all the south and cost more for the north for travel expenses. Its all part of the mess where everything in this conference gets stacked for the south teams and stacked against for the north. Where the money goes so will the success, and right now with the lone exception of NU, its all going south. Yeah, but you have to realize the central location of DFW to the vast majority of the conference. The fact that it is "in" the actual state of Texas doesn't rile me particularly. I'd like to hear more about how the conference tilts toward the south. Specifics? DFW is NOT the central location of the conference, OKC or Tulsa would be more centalized. There have been other reasons listed, why don't you disuss those?
  4. Because a TV commercial on a big board isn't legit. Right, why would propaganda for only 1 of the teams be any kind of advantage If that were the only issue, then I would agree. Its like putting the frog in a pot of water and turning the heat up ever so slightly. At this point, even the little things that TU gets favored for are getting on my nerves. Roll Tide!

I don't know much about all the TV revenue talk, but I'll take your word for it on that one. That's about the only sensible beef I've actually heard. The biggest problem I see is that the Big 8 ASKED 4 schools from a corrupt conference to join US. TU said that if they didn't get their way, they were going to go to the Pac-10. So the conference as a whole cow-towed to TU and the rest is history. If you want to talk about placing championship tournaments/games in a place that is centrally located and easily accessible to everyone, KC or OKC would be the best locations. The Big 12 basketball tournament was moved but never, EVER should have been. It was great in KC for as long as it was held there. Like you said, its only 3 hrs from Austin or Norman to Arlington, but its 10-11 hrs from Columbia, Lincoln or Omaha, 8 hrs from Lawrence or Manhattan, and 12 hours from Ames. Of course Arlington is not a suburb of Austin but have you ever been there? Its like NU playing in Omaha and saying that its not a home game for them. The fan support in DWF for TU is staggering. Are you really saying that there are not many direct flights to KC Intl? Really? Well, if games were held there, most of the people could DRIVE instead of fly. Wouldn't that make sense? I know that there are many headquarters of other companies in DFW, but there are in KC, St. Louis, Des Moines, Omaha, and OKC as well. Just like the basketball tournament, there was NO REASON to move the hdqtrs to Dallas. None. Also, another huge factor is football recruiting and the rules imposed. Teams can no longer accept non qualifiers and can only take 1 partial, where as before, NU was able to take a limited amount of non/partial qualifiers. Guys like C. Peter, Tomich, Jamel Williams, and Tyrone Williams were guys that would not be allowed in the Big 12. Texas has alot of Jr. Colleges that non-qualifiers go to, and then TU can have their pick of that talent, as well as the pick of pretty much any Texas high school kid. These rules just made recruiting that much harder for NU, ISU, KSt, etc, and is one of the main reason why Osborne retired when he did. I'm of the opinion that we shouldnt joing the Big 10 conference, well, because it sucks. We should take the rest of the North, get teams like Arkansas, TCU, Houston, maybe a Utah, BYU, or Boise St. and make our own Great MidWest Conference. Run it the way it should be run. If OU and OSU want to come along, great. But I'm tired of letting TU get its way. It sucks, its harming the conference, and it could lead to its demise.
  6. And yet we had (I should clarify: some) people going gaga over the idea of a well-connected juco HC coming here to be our OC... OC? I thought it was a lesser role if he came? I'm only going to address the Mizzou game, because again, TBH, that's all I read and am gonna bother to read. We rushed for 105 total yards in the Mizzou game. That is on 33 total carries. A total of 3.2 YPC. If not for Helu's 41 yard rush in the 4th quarter, you can imagine. Even in the 4th, we rushed for 65 of our total 105. Up until that point we had 23 carries for 40 yards. So we were running the ball? What? Yeah, selective memory makes you forget that downpour that let Mizzou put 8-9 in the box almost every play to force us to pass. Hate to tell you, but you cannot run on that type of front. Even Texas' 8-9 man front in the CCG agrees. Of course you didn't. You wanted a top 15 offensive mind to leave last year and you didn't care. But then admitting that would prove your hypocrisy, but naturally I would never expect you to admit that. In any case, haters gon' hate. Agree to disagree in this situation. How about reading the entire post before answering then, instead of being so all-knowing and condescending. Acting in such a fashion confirms that your argument really doesn't have a leg to stand on. I know that 2.3 yards per rush isn't great, but it's much, much better than 0 yards on each pass. If he wants to sling the ball around in such conditions, why not try high percentage passes like short slants, hooks, or in patterns (not that crappy bubble screen to a WR that has never worked), or are those plays not part of his vautned offense? Since you have the game broken down into segements, why don't you break down Lee's stats 1st-3rd qtrs vs. 4th qtr. Besides, if you keep running you might get lucky and break one for 8 or 10 yards here or there, wear down the defense, and really open the game up in the 4th qtr., but hey I would never expect you to admit that. I admit, if Watson left for Bama, I wouldn't have lost any sleep. If one good year makes him a "top 15 offensive mind" then what does this year make him? Is he now a bottom 20 offensive mind, or are only using that defense when it suits your needs. Watson's offenses had a couple of good years, a couple of bad years, but mostly have been middle of the pack. It seems that in most seasons, he is a top 60 or 80 offensive mind. I don't understand why you won't admit this. The results don't lie, and in this case, you are wrong, my friend.
  7. You think people suddenly forget coaching or something? Look at Bill Snyder and how much he was able to do with KSU, even with his time off. Teachers never lose their touch. Think of it this way, when your offense is struggling and you have tried multiple ways to fix it, would you not consult with a great offensive mind like Osborne? But hey, guess what - after consulting with Osborne it STILL didn't work. Even someone like Osborne couldn't help this offense. Coaches everywhere consult others to get ideas. Hell, a BCS team came to Bo last year before their game to get advice. If this offense was crapping the bed and Watson WAS NOT asking for help, then I'd be right beside you saying there is a problem here. I never said that TO has forgot anything about football, its pretty obvious that he knows more about the game then all of us combined, and consulting said person is to be commended. My point is that it shouldn't take Watson half a seaon to figure out what his personnel can and can't do, and I have NEVER heard (not that it hasn't happened) of an OC of a major college football team performing such a consultation mid-season. Normally, that is something that is done between seasons, to tweak the offense/defense.
  8. I guess you should have watched the MissU game before commenting on it. Since apparently you did not watch the game, I'll let you know what happened: NU tried to run a little early, with a little success. Even though MissU is weak against the run, Watson kept calling short out patterns to the far side of the field (30-40 yard passes) in hurricane conditions that were rarely, if ever completed. Even if the were completed, they would have only been for 4-5 yards, max. Fast forward to the 4th qtr., after the O put NU in a nice little hole, they finally dedicated to "pounding the rock" (puke!), picked up chunks of yardage and even scored a rushing touchdown. If they would have just pounded MissU all day, they likely would not have been down as much as they were. If you want to totally disregard that game, how about some of these brilliant gameplans: Against T Tech, throwing that stupid lateral pass to a guy with bad hands (the same one that never works) which ended up being a fumbled returned for a TD, totally shifting the momentum. Then, after being down by 3 td's, instead of trying to get some quick scores, he continually called zone reads for most of the 2nd half with Zach, pretty much running most of the time off of the clock. The 1 yr. TD pass agains OU on 1st and goal when a QB sneak or two likely would have worked just as well and would have been a higher percentage play. Calling option plays/zone reads with Zach Lee, while not doing so in the same frequency with Cody Green. Against Va Tech and Texass, repeatedly calling running plays when NU has first and goal from the 9 or 10 instead of trying a pass, which lead to FGs and us losing those games. (This has to be one of the most frustrating and poor game calling I have ever seen. In the next NU game, watch his play calling in these situations: when NU has first and goal from about 3 yards and closer, he calls more passes, and when they have first and goal from about 7 yards and out, he calls more runs.) We don't even have to get into how little his players (qb's/wr's) have progressed in his system. Really, we just have to look at how historically mediocre to poor his offensives have fared. I'm sorry my friend you can defend the guy all you want, but the results don't lie. Even if you want to ignore them.
  9. Lets put this into context. IF Watson is that good of an OC, why does the AD (as great of a coach as he was/is) who has not coached for 12 years need to give a tape of some of his own most effective plays (from over 10 years ago) to a guy who is supposed to be a top OC and a head coach candidate? Is embarrassing that of one of the top 10 all-time college football programs has an OC that needs to get hand-fed plays from a guy who hasn't wore a headset for over a decade.
  10. Did you miss the previous post on how "wonderful" his offenses are? In 9 years of being an OC, he has had 2 years in which his offenses finished in the top 25. That is not "wonderful" IMO.
  11. Um, Watson did. We opened the season being more open with our offense. Before Zac got benched, we were averaging over 28 pass attempts a game. We were being that hybrid "Spread Coast Offense" that Watson wanted us to be. Unfortunately when Zac began to crap the bed against better competition and our WRs showed an inability to get open or hold onto the ball, things had to change. Even when he got Cody in, he tries to let the kid run the read-option, the only thing he really is capable of doing right now. Guy could not do it because our offensive line was so awful. As I've said before, Cody was not a quick move type of guy. He's the type of runner who builds up steam and once he gets going, he can fly. But with our offensive line opening no holes, he had no hope. That idea was canned and Cody was put back on the bench since he had no chance at running OR passing. When Zac came back, we relied heavily on the run. Although a bad idea since Burkhead was out and Helu wasn't healthy, we did it and were able to defeat Oklahoma. Even after that victory we showed we needed to at least get teams out of the box. So for the Kansas game, we showed that we would get Zac outside the pocket to give him easier throws so his confidence wouldn't be in the crapper. Zac had back-to-back solid games (not outstanding) versus Kansas and KSU. Against Colorado, admittedly our offense did not have a good game. Our ST and defense got us a nice lead, so Watson played it safe considering our offense was crapping the bed. It was safe and he did not want our offense to cost our defense. Not a sexy plan, but once the game got going it WAS the smartest thing no matter how much it wasn't pretty. And finally against Texas, we attempted to use PA and those bootleg passes outside the pocket to get Lee his confidence. You watched the game, we all watched the game. Lee was running for his life. He had absolutely zero chance. And with Zac having MAJOR confidence issues, his game was over in a hurry. So again, we go back to the safe gameplan hoping Zac doesn't do anything stupid to cost us. Unfortunately he did make mistakes, which is why he was benched halfway through. But as Cody proved, his confidence doesn't match his passing abilities - AT ALL. Zac was the only QB we had, sadly. Our running game was going to need to spring a run, but our offensive line couldn't block for squat. Look at it this way .. QB - Witt transfers because he doesn't want to compete. Spano blows out his knee. We move a LINEBACKER to QB. We have a super stud practice play who gave us hope, but craps the bed once he got int he game. Who could have expected that? RB - We kick a player off the team in Castille because he fries one too many brain cells. Helu busts his shoulder. Burkhead breaks a foot. Then we have to start a RB in Tray that was set to RS the entire season and was basically our 5th string RB. Meaning, unless some major ish happens, no way he was burning his RS. That ish happened. WR - We graduate our top two WRs. Our backups had horrid hands and ran horrid routes. The rest were completely inexperienced and were not even given major practice reps until Gilmore had no choice but to bench guys like Curenski and Meno. TE - McNeill has been banged up for a long time, but has manned up for a while. Young is a JAG and Cotton is still inexperienced. OL - Aside from being a horrible coached technical group, we lost our best OL in Burkes. The rest of the guys were banged up throughout the season. Also guys like Marcel and Hickman had down years from what was expected of them. It's like, what are you supposed to do in this situation? In all honesty, this year was absolute worst case scenario when you think of all the things that could go wrong. It all went wrong, and NO ONE could expect it. Absolutely no one. To say Watson didn't try to adapt to his situation is flat out wrong. And for him to shoulder the blame in this is wrong as well which always leaves me shaking my head. Watson is the absolute LAST of our worries on the offensive staff, but he is shouldering all of the blame. Sad thing is, one day he will be gone. Then when the likely replacement comes in, we will all be doing LOL, that was f^cking hilarious. Yeah, our offense is just absolutely going to tank once Shawn Watson gets a D1 HC offer. O, wait, no D1 schools are interested in Shawn Watson? O wait, our offense already tanked? just f^cking lol, that last part of ur post is just f^cking hilarious dup

O, wait, no D1 schools are interested in Shawn Watson? O wait, our offense already tanked? just f^cking lol, that last part of ur post is just f^cking hilarious HA! I agree with Willie in that Watson DID try to change our offense. From my vantage point, Watson's "multiple offense" really means "I have no idea what to do, lets just throw some crap out there and see what happens." Really, look at what he has done. When he DOES find something that works (running against MissU or completely under-utilizing our tight ends) he goes away from it, and when NU was down by 3 TDs to T Tech, he shows no sense of urgency in his play calling and runs zone read, after zone read, after zone read, after freaking zone read with Zach Lee. His play calling is quizzical at best. Willie, seeing how Watson's offenses have fared at CU and here, what make you think that he is the "least of our offenses problems?" I think that are woes start with him. Like I said, Brown and Beck are the only 2 O-coaches who haven't proven to be at the very least questionable. As far as Cotton, the jury is still out on him, but I don't remember our offensive lines being any better than average when Wagner and Callahan were here. Even though the O-line has been pretty bad, maybe the injuries and re-programming these guys into tough-nosed players isn't gonna happen overnight. Remember, he didn't recruit these guys to be the type of OLs he wanted. Just seeing the history of Waston as an OC, if he goes, I for one will not be face-palming, I'll be doing cart-wheels.
  13. I think this shows exactly why Watson should be gone. I know everyone wants to give credence to last years offense, but it took him half of the year last year (remember MissU and Va Tech?) to figure out what his offense could do, and he never did this year. Also, there was a previous post showing how mediocre to bad his offenses have been in his years as an OC. If his offense needs 5 yr. SRs at all the skill positions to be effective, then you will get what you have always got (the definition of insanity??) with Watson – typically poor offense, with a one-year wonder every 6 or seven years. I’m tired of hearing about Watson getting “his recruits” these kids were recruited to run the WCO. His play calling is horrible most of the time (calling pass plays on first and goal from the 1 yard line while calling run plays on first and goal from the 10, only to kick a FG, to running the option with a qb who doesn’t do it well, to not running the qb with Green). He should have been blown out with Gilmore 2 years ago. If the O-line can’t get it together next couple of years, Cotton should be sent packing, too. I think that with all of the injuries on the O-line, Barney should have another year or two to make improvements. IMO, the only 2 offensive coaches that should not be on the hot seat are Brown and Beck. The WRs have been pitiful since Gilmore has been here, the offense as a whole has been average at best, the qb’s (with the exception of Ganz’s 16 or whatever games started) have not progressed, even with Lee’s 3rd year in the system. Even kids being recruited can see that the O has no identity, no leadership, no direction.
  14. Thats the funniest hypocritical thing I have seen posted by a horn fan so far. We all know who won by human error in that game. Except it wasn't human error, it was an intentional move to save Texas's undefeated season. I have no pity for hypocritical whining. We always do. I think you should focus on your own team not embarrassing the conference, from my vantage with the team you are getting ready to play you are in a much liklier position to embarass the conference then Nebraska ever has been. I suggest you follow your own advice Jack! I CAN"T Effing wait! I wouldn't be so anxious if I were a Longhorn fan. You're reception might not be so hospitible as in years past. I have always said I believe Nebraska fans as a whole are the best in college football, weather or not arrogant Texas fans think that anymore since they got the BIG XII title handed to them and saw the wrath of a team scorned multiple times over, I don't give a sh*t. Nebraska fans are most hospitable, kindest, and have the best sportsmanship in the country. I just don't happen to be one of those that fits the status quo. I personally think we are to effing nice and maybe a little bad blood into the mix would make things a little more intense and more worth watching. I get tired of the sh*t talking from the other side and think we ought to do some shoving back. You are free to disagree with me and tell me why I'm wrong and let your heart bleed about how we should kiss butt and be nice nice but it certainly won't change my point of view. I agree with everything you have said, but in response to HBud, ever since the Big 12 was formed, EVERYTHING has been done to give advantages to Texass and its schools, from changing recruiting rules to favor Texass schools, to moving championship series/games from well-established, historical locations in Big 8 territory to the land of Texass, to moving Big 12 offices to Dallas, etc. The most "egregious" rule change was in response to TU not being able to play in the Big 12 championship game last year so the conference cow-towed (again) to Texass and changed the rule. All of this has been done to give Texass schools (and more importantly TU) the upper hand. So to think that a fix was in for this game is not out of the realm of possibility. NU had 8 sacks and not one, again NOT ONE holding penalty was called on TU even though their O-line was getting bitch-slapped all game. So the phantom one second put back on the clock, a decision made by a TU grad none-the-less, (a call that was not reviewable and a call that has no precedence of being called) is at the very least questionable and should be scrutinized to its fullest extent. The saddest part is the SWC was a corrupt conference, with a bunch of corrupt schools, and now those schools are being allowed to dictate the direction of the entire Big 12. I hate the Big 10, but the only school that I hate as much as the Big 10 schools is Texass. Anytime they get screwed, it puts a smile on my face. I really wish that Texass would have gone to the Pac-10 like they threatened to do.
  15. I disagree. Watson (with a few exceptions) ran a very similar offense to the one BC ran, and most of these players were recruited for that offense. It has only changed in the past 3 or 4 games because it took an inept OC half of a season to figure out what he had (same as last year). Also, if this offense can only flourish with 5 yr. SRs at QB and WR, then it is NOT a good offense for the college game. Players come and go rarely do you have that luxury. It's his 3rd year in the system, Lee should have a better grasp of the offense. I wanted to give Cotton the benefit of the doubt, but he is not the answer. Shawn, Barney, and Ted could all leave, and I wouldn't lose a minute of sleep.
  16. You're slapping your self-righteous brush around pretty wide, like you normally do. I would be surprised if any of us here are talking about standing all game outside the student section or not taking anyone else into consideration. But let me tell you what you can do with that self-righteous brush of yours... Elby, I have done as you suggested. I have quit going to the games I love because I am so old that I can't see over the standers. To everyone involved, if you can't stand for a few minutes during the game, how did you walk up to your seat? If you are in that bad of shape, either go to the handicap section, or stay home. I don't care how long you've been a fan. I know that if I couldn't stand, I surely wouldn't want to have to try to walk all that way to the stadium, walk up the stairs, then wait and stand to get out. That excuse holds no water. I was at the T. Tech game and a blue-hair behind us told us to sit down AFTER THE OPENING KICKOFF!!! She complained about how bad her back was, how she couldn't stand, how she'd been going to games for 40 years, blah, blah, blah. My friend told her, "I paid for my ticket just like you, and it didn't say that I couldn't stand up from time to time!!" The guys next to him stood for 80% of the game just to make her mad. I don't condone the punch, but if you can't handle a little standing at a football game, watch it on your couch.
  17. And he can take Gilmore with him! This is my first post, but watching this game and the stupid lateral passes that he calls just piss me off!!!!! I was about to throw my chair through the TV with all the dink and dunk passing that his system calls for. Thankfully, they went downfield late in the half, but this is ridiculous. Lee is playing decent (with the exception of that last drive) but I get more nervous when he throws then I used to durning the option years. Even if the ball gets there on time, the freaking receivers drop very catchable balls. And its not just one guy, Holt, Paul, Gillelyn (sp?). Maybe they should use those drills that Leach uses for his recievers. Its obvious that this offense works pretty well against defenses that have no athletes, but once they go up against a team with decent division 1 talent, it is pathetic. I hope that CU fires Hawkins and hires Watson. Hopefully, he will take Gilmore with him.
