  1. What Carson originally ran and what he ran under Norm Chow is the same basic philosophy, except it was a very watered down version of it (your own words confirmed it was a simplified version). I remember watching the KSU/USC matchup and they only ran formations out of the 2 backs set and VERY RARELY used a I back set. Why did they do this? They wanted to get the passing game established. USC's passing game was the worst in the country. It ranked 94th in the nation in total offense in 2001 under him. (link). The result? A 6-6 season and a passing efficiency ranked 56th in the nation Insert Norm Chow: comes in and simplifies the plays and waters down the terminology and looks what happens in 2002 efficiency rating-5th in the nation and (total offense-8th in the nation). Dramatic improvement wouldn't you say? So you see, it has nothing to do with Carson thinking it was 2 different offenses and more to do with Norm Chow simplifying it for the team to better understand it. Once the terminology was understood, the began expanding it to what it was originally at and began incorporating a 2 back set which is one of the MAIN fundamentals of a WCO which like yourself said "Walsh ran effectively" and i quote So if USC isn't running a WCO, then why are they using a 2back set like Walsh did? Why did USC do it that way? Simple. It was like Nebraska. They were becoming more and more a rushing team then a passing team and that clogged up the running lanes. You put 2 backs in, it forces your opponent to stack the LOS and opens up the backfield. Something Nebraska did last year but because of the lack of talent, were not able to run a 2 back set effictively. Now that you have depth at the RB spot, look for more 2 back sets next year. You can quote me on it. You are correct in what you say about Chow watering everything down for Palmer. However, Chow became Offensive coordinator in 2001. http://usctrojans.collegesports.com/sports...how_norm00.html The point that Chow made everything simpler for Palmer as eluded to in that obscure article is moot because it took Carson Palmer about 16 games to finally get Chow's watered down system. Is Palmer a little thickheaded? I don't know, but what he said in that article of June of 2001 didn't reflect in his play that fall, that I do know. That was what i was implying. When Norn chow was hired and tried his offense in 2001, Carson Palmer struggled so bad with it that USC went from having a ranking of 28th in total offense in 2000, to 94th all of a sudden in 2001. Norm Chow simplifies it waters it down and Carson sky rockets up the passing efficiency rating and USC is 8th in total offense in 2002
  2. Loud mouth Fred Rouse, and his sidekick Cornelius Lewis have been kicked off the team for "conduct detremental to the team" This goes back to the FSU/Florida game and the comments Rouse made after the loss to the gators most likely.
  3. Yes. A.J Wallace, J.B Walton, and Evan Royster (although we stopped recruiting Royster recently).
  4. Justin Makovicka was offered a walkon status. He took a visit to ISU last weekend (greyshirt), visiting Ohio this weekend (no offer) and Kansas St on 1/27. He has one official offer from Air Force and likely to get an offer from Ohio.
  5. Confirmed source says he's going to commit to LSU
  6. We haven't heard from Slacker in a few days???
  7. Those guys are 2007 recruits, not 2006 targets. We will offer both of those guys most likely for next years class.

  9. The huge difference is, it wasnt "starting a company from scratch." A better parallel would be firing Bill Gates, breaking up Microsoft, and using their facilities and resources to manufacture watches. Actually it was starting from scratch. He was taking a run oritented option team to a more balanced attack which featured actual passing plays and actual 21st century football terminology and not "option left, option right, QB keeper".
  10. Couldn't get the link to work, so i just searched for it in todays news: Narbonne star's pick is a real scream in Nebraska Major Culbert will continue his football career with the Cornhuskers, probably as a defensive back. By Bob Holtzman Daily Breeze Major Culbert made a phone call Thursday morning that elicited a somewhat bizarre but obviously positive reaction. The Narbonne High senior told Nebraska assistant football coach Bill Busch that he planned to accept a scholarship offer to play football for the Cornhuskers He went outside to scream," Culbert said of Busch's reaction. Culbert, the 2005 Daily Breeze Player of the Year, visited Nebraska in September and then enjoyed a tremendous senior season for the Gauchos, rushing for 1,914 yards and 13 touchdowns on 244 carries. He had 62 tackles and six sacks on defense. College decisions are not final until student-athletes sign a national letter of intent. The official college football signing period does not begin until Feb. 1. The 6-foot, 195-pound running back and defensive back made the decision between visits to other programs. He visited Oregon last weekend, but Narbonne coach Manuel Douglas said the Ducks didn't extend an official offer while Culbert was on the trip. Culbert was supposed to visit Washington this weekend, but passed on the opportunity when he learned that Coach Ty Willingham would be in Hawaii, coaching the Hula Bowl, a college senior all-star game. Instead, Culbert said he would visit San Diego State. Culbert could change his mind but insisted it would be his final decision. "It's nothing big, I'm just visiting. I already scheduled it," said Culbert, who graded his commitment to Nebraska as "100 percent. I would never commit if I would not live up to it. I feel like that's a waste of my time and the coach's time." Douglas said that Culbert realized that Nebraska's devotion to him throughout the recruiting process was too good to pass up. "They were the first school to offer him and they offered him before the season started," Douglas said. "Their coach told me their attitude is that when you know who you want to take to the dance, you don't wait until the last minute to ask." Culbert said he wants to major in theater and that if he can't play football professionally, he would like to become an actor or a model. He also said that Nebraska coaches like him as a defensive back but would give him an opportunity to play running back. Greg Biggins, a recruiting analyst for Student Sports, said that Culbert is probably one of the top 10 safety prospects on the West Coast. "He's a heck of a safety, a physical kid who likes contact," Biggins said. "He's not a softy. He's a smash-mouth guy who should fit in well in the Big 12." link
  11. The official was already scheduled before he committed to Nebraska. Plus, he was going down there with his family to visit his aunt and cousins, and Chuck Long took advantage of that and asked him to visit, and Culbert told him he would swing by and check it out. It's free food and a chance to stay at a nice hotel during his visit to San Diego, so it's no big deal. It just goes to show you that even though he committed to NU, he is a man of his word and didn't just cancell his visit.
  12. Its like i said, Maryland had the upper hand. It's usually tough pulling kids from the East coast that are that highly rated. Case in point A.J. Wallace and J.B Walton
  13. My money is on N.C State, although he has a visit to Virginia lined up for this weekend.
  14. Great pickup for coach Oregron. Wish we could have gotton him and his brother in for a visit.
  15. Michigan seems to have told him they were done recruiting RB's for this class and with NU cancelling his visit after KW becoming a solid and Michigan shutting him out, he had nowhere else to go other then the hoetown school LA Tech or to Tulane.
  16. No, what it says is that we are already over our quota and that any other commits we get from here on out will push some guys to greyshirt. Also count in some guys that are expected to be non qualifiers

  18. With the commitment of Major Culbert, that gives Nebraska as of now 24 scholarships recruits (Spain will be getting a scholarship). Nebraska will also be giving a scholarship to Jacob Hickan from last year, putting Nebraska at the NCAA max 25. However, since Jacob Hickman is from last years recruiting class, he will take over Dyches scholarship, putting NU back at 24. Nebraska only had 22 available scholarships to hand out, so they are already over the limit. Most likely, Ben Martin will become a possible greyshirt candidate, Matt Slauson also will likely take over Corneilus Thomas's scholarship slot (i don't see the coaches pursuing a medical redshirt for him honestly). Nebraska currently has 68 players on scholarship, and only 17 actual scholarships to hand out for this recruiting class. Some Non-qualifiers in the eyes of the coaches? Where does that leave Deas and Lee who are visiting this weekend? Just some thing to think about since NU is tapped out on scholarships as of right now
  19. Is going to commit to Penn St from what it sounds like
  20. Well sounds like Deas is planning on being in Lincoln tommarow, but the question is, will he make it or will FSU push him to commit with an inhome visit tonight? I have been told he's visiting out of respect for Blake because he's been on him since the early spring last year so it's hard to guage how interested he is in Nebraska. With 12 days left untill signing day, anything is possible with him. At least if he doesn't make it because of grades, he could end up close to Lincoln or it may backfire and he may end up in a prep school in Virginia like FSU's 2 or 3 other recruits this season
  21. I believe the coaches backed off of Issac a while ago because of his grades.
