  1. Maybe he is starting to grasp reality a little bit. I donno if I would call him a bad fan for predicting NU to lose. I think that is starting to become more and more of a safe bet.
  2. That's true. Not a top job. What about Joe Glenn. Bring in a Nebraska native and bring back some of the tradition.
  3. but maybe the only way to get a change made is to hope the team loses its next 2 games and finishes with a losing record again. Bring in a good coach with some young talent to work with and start to build the program up again.
  4. 2 years doesn't seem very instant too me.
  5. They mentioned on ABC that BC was in the hot seat also. They said it was time to make a change in Huskerland. They said the Husker program was going downhill.
  6. I was referring to the comparison of a full season last year to this partial season as nitpicking. I am all about the facts as well, so props for pointing it out. I agree with you to an extent of the reason that Taylor gets sacked more is because he is less mobile. Joe D's happy feet last season may have covered up some inadequacies in the line. However, Dailey would take off and run when he was scared that he would get hit, Taylor takes off when he sees daylight. Dailey was a more talented runner, but lacked toughness. I won't disagree with ya. I don't want to turn this thread into a qb discussion about who is better. I was just stating a possibility.
  7. I agree, If bc keeps having episodes like hillbillies, throat slashings, we take what we want, one game one season, and combines them with 5-6, 6-5 records his days will be numbered. As so should be the AD's.
  8. 10 Wins means a bowl game. It means beating an OSU team, ISU team, Penn St. team and CU team that beat you the year before. It means they lost to a KSU team that finished the year 11-4, a MU team that was 8-5, and a Texas team that was 10-3. 03 was not the greatest of years, but it was definately improvement over the previous year. They lost to some good teams minus MU which would only be considered a decent team. If you don't count McNeese St then how can you count Maine. A win is a win. You can't fire the staff this year, if they win their last 2 or 3 games then it is significant improvment over last year. But if they go 0-3 or 1-2 there will be a hot seat next year and Billy C will be expected to produce. They signed a contract with BC for 5 years I think. That is a lot of money to payout if they fire him already. I think they are still paying for soliches staff who had some time left on their contracts when they were canned. The Athletic Department can't just keep pumping money into coaches and then firing the coaches, but still having to fulfill the contract. While it is true that 10 wins is not easy to do, I think it matters to win the games that count. Yes, we were 10-3 but if we were truly good in 2003 we would have never let Mizzou beat us 41-24. KSU beat us to badly also. I say the only credible loss that year was to Texas. If we had plaed those same teams in 2001 we would have gone undefeated. I think we were a good team. Definately not a National Championship team but an improvement over the debacle from the previous year. The MU game was one we shouldn't have lost. The KSU game has been a struggle for the last 10 years and especially lately. That one is kind of a toss up. The texas game we were undermatched. I think that team overachieved that year because the weren't the most talented team and had a young secondary but they pulled out 10 wins.
  9. I would guess that is probably true. Taylor has been effective when he does tuck it and run. But he has also lost more yardage. ZT has lost 194 yds through 8 games and JD only lost 136 yds through the whole season. Like I said earlier it can be attributed to lack of qb mobility, poor oline play or a combo of both.

  11. I'm not saying JD was a good qb. He had some major problems with vision, decision making etc. But he is definately a better athlete than taylor. When JD left the pocket to scramble he would make a horrible decision to throw the ball and it would be intercepted. If I recall right BC didn't want his QB's to scramble so they could be protected. I disagreed with that. JD was a good athlete, and not a good passer. Anytime he had the opportunity to tuck it and run he should have. Taylor looks just aweful slow when he runs, but I love it. That is almost always a positive gain and sometimes for a good chunk of yardage. I have never understood the philosophy of not wanting your qb to take off. If there is open yardage out there to take then take it, slide, or get out of bounds. That is better than forcing the ball into coverage and taking an incomplete. Pinkle tried to keem Brad Smith in the pocket last year. That didn't work. QB's like Smith and Vince Young should be running the ball at least as many times as they throw. There is just too much athleticism to waste.
  12. That is not nitpicking that is correcting false information. I just like to see accurate stats posted on this board for the integrity of the board. I really can't argue that Fluellen's hards are softer, he has only caught 4 balls. Le Kevin Smith is playing well, the whole D-line is playing well. That can be attributed to depth and more experience. The LB core started off great, but have lost some of their luster sinse around the pitt, Iowa st. game. Bowman is starting to play better. To big of expectations were placed on him when he had never played a down of D1 football. It looks like he has overtaken Green for the starting spot. I agree ZT is an upgrade from JD. He makes better decisions, and is more accurate. I think part of the increased number of sacks this year can be attributed to the lack of mobility at qb. And of course the poor play of the oline. Swift and Peterson are definately a pleasant surprise, though Peterson didn't show anything until the last 2 games. Hope he continues to be productive and has the ball thrown his way. I love watching ross play and he has great potential. He doesn't receive enough toughes and some of the running plays he receives don't suite his ability. He need to get the ball more in open space. Congdon is definately better, never thought DeAngelis should have been playing last year. I would like to see if he can make the 40-50 yarders. That is a major weapon when you can put points on the board when your drive stalls at the 30. Muhammed played well at the beginning of the year, but has been fairly non-existant since. He hasn't had a sack since the Pitt game. Turner is going to be awesome, very impressive for a freshman. This team lacks consistency and dicipline and at times motivation. Even Frost elluded to the motivation factor in his Always a Husker segment. Im not there so I don't know but that is what I see. There has to be some reason for the slow starts of the last 4 weeks.
  13. Ross is the boss, most definitely. I wish we could move the ball more as well. Some stats from statfox: Points for: 2004: 23.7 2005: 24.0 Points Against: 2004: 27.1 2005: 19.5 Turnovers per game: 2004: 3.0 2005: 2.2 Passing Completion percentage: 2004: 48% 2005: 54% Field Goal Percentage: 2004: 50% 2005: 81% Above the stats, this is what I have seen this season so far: LeKevin Smith is starting to back up some of his smack and has had a good season so far(minus that fumble ). Bo Ruud looked lost when he was in the game last year, this season he looks more comfortable and has made some plays. Stew Bradley has come into his own, last season he was clearly feeling things out. Carricker and Moore have stepped up their pass rush. They are playing very well. An upgrade over Crunk Juice. Corey McKeon came, seemingly, out of nowhere and solidified a position that was a big question mark coming into the season. I like the way he plays ball. Zack Bowman was expected to be an instant savior, but it has taken him time to adjust. He is now playing pretty well and improving each game. Nate Swift has benefitted from a redshirt season and has become what the offense needs; a go to guy. Zac Taylor is a tremendous upgrade over Dailey. I cannot stress that enough. Joe D. was afraid to take a hit and ran scared eventhough he was recruited as a running QB. Taylor doesn't shy away from contact and is tough as nails. Completion percentage has steadily gone up since the receivers started catching the ball more. Cory Ross, what can you say, the guy is amazing when given the chance to make plays. I am a big fan of #4. Fluellen's hands seem to be softer this season. Todd Peterson came out of nowhere and is playing well. Josh Mueller has played well as a pass blocker when given the opportunity. Congdon is a huge upgrade over DeAngelis. The kid looks better and better every week. Barry Turner is gonna be awesome! Wali Muhammad is a great rush specialist. Ola Dagundaro has provided quality depth. About the only thing I see as worse from last season to this is the offensive line and the tight end play. Not having Herian has hurt the team. The many improvements that I have listed above are the basis for my belief that Callahan is not a loser. Some choose to see the bad, I choose to look at the positives and everything that is improving here. I realize that last year at this point last season the team was 5-3 just the same as this team, but I have confidence that this team won't fold up like a card table like last year. We shall see, but the heart that was lacking last season is there this year. Except your stats are wrong and biased. You can't compare a full season to 8/11ths of a season. Last years team averaged 25 ppg 56 17 24 14 10 59 21 24 27 3 20 equals 275 / 11 = 25 ppg not 23.7 so this year isn't an improvement yet.
  14. Improvement? It hasn't shown up on the scoreboard yet? 2004 through 8 games Points for 225 Points Against 208 2005 through 8 games Points for 192 Points Against 156 The D has shown improvement only because they didn't drop a 70 point bomb. The O looks very similar if not slightly worse.
  15. I wish my world was as happy and sugar-coated as yours.
  16. nothing like a slap on the wrist. Hopefully it will be over now. I am sick of hearing about it.
  17. And it could very well be disastrous If we have to put another QB in.
  18. The option offense as a pure offense is dead, plain and simple. I don't care what anyone says. Any team that tries to run just simply an option offense these days will be lucky to get 5 wins, let alone 6. There's a reason why FSU, Miami, Florida, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio St, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Iowa, Colorado, UCLA, Cal, Washington, Texas Tech, which have all been succesful in the last 10 years only used a option pitch MAYBE here and there to keep defenses honest. You will never see those teams running option play after option play or even see them run 10-15 option right, option left plays in a game. Some of you are stubborn and are still stuck in a damn timewarp called the 1990's and believe the option still works as a full time offense. Keep telling yourselves it will work, maybe you will buy what you are trying to sell. I stand by what i said. The option as a full time offense is dead, period. A offense that has a couple (that doesn't mean 10-15, just 2,3 plays) of option plays in its playbook, isn't though. If Callahan ran an option play once or twice in a game (and trust me he will the way he is working with beck this year), then i wouldn't mind it. I had enough of the option the moment Crouch graduated. There's a reason why Frank Solich will never get more then 6 wins in the Mac conference with his stubborn option offense still. Mark my words and quote me on them. Solich will never win more then 6 games at Ohio because of the option The reason Air Force isn't very good is because they, along w/ all of the other acadamies, don't get the talent most D1 programs get. Your the one that routinely says talent makes the difference.
  19. I agree, I would like to see us build some kind of lead so we can play ganz just to see how he is. Like you said, ZT is one play away from getting hurt. It would be nice to see if we had a capable backup.
  20. Why waste a whole year of playing time for 3 games. We are virtually out of the north race (not completely but its close). Keep him on the sidelines taking mental reps and let him compete against ZT for the spot next year. If he doesn't win the spot, throw him in for a series or 2 each game plus mop-up duty. I might agree with playing Beck if it was 3 or 4 games ago, but not w/ 3 games left.
