  1. We are fans, we're not going to fix anything, and doc isn't making excuses. He himself has said he needs to get guys that can score better. Then why hasn't he? I'll cut Doc some slack ... for now. Next year will be different! Nobody has said a word about why they feel Doc is a "good coach". The reason he hasn't gotten that guy yet has been discussed over and over in other topics. Lack of tradition, support, facilities, etc. And yes, i'm frustrated he hasn't gotten that guy yet, also. Doc is a good coach because he game plans well and gets his players to give 110% night in and night out. He does some questionable things, sure, but what coach doesn't? If you ever listen to a big xii teleconference, tv announcers, or read national/regional writers' articles about doc, every single one of them praises doc for getting nobodies to compete with teams that have FAR more talent. People (including me) question doc's thinking behind playing time, clock management, etc. but the bottom line is he somehow gets trash players to compete against the likes of kansas, k-state, texas, etc. The only real knock you can have on doc at this point is recruiting, because if you watch the games it is obvious that the majority of the time if the talent level were equal he'd be winning.
  2. We are fans, we're not going to fix anything, and doc isn't making excuses. He himself has said he needs to get guys that can score better. In regards to the Lance Jeter conversation: Lance has had some bone-headed turnovers the last few games and he does not shoot some 3s that don't exactly make me happy, BUT other than b-rich who is going to handle the ball? I cringe when half the guys touch the ball. You can't have brandon as the point cause doc wants him scoring from the 2 or 3 rather than handling the ball. looking at the entire season as a whole, i'd say lance has done a pretty good job. 7 games or so into conference play he had one of the leading assist/to ratios in all the conference, and that was against some decent competition.
  3. not to mention an 80% free throw shooter to give the ball to in the final minute of a tight game - which is something that could have won NU a few different games over the last two years
  4. plays on a team that doesn't need him to be "that guy." he has a completely different role to fill there than he would have here. what you need to look at are his percentages and ability - i'd say 50% from 3 point line and 10 3s in a tourney game is decent ability
  5. i've haven't minded diaz not showing emotion - i've seen a lot of people that don't like it. however, tonight was disgusting watching him. no fire, and then in the second half when he missed that layup after his defender fell down, he hung his head and looked like he was moping around out there. terrible to see, hopefully he can bounce back and close the season with a couple good games for a little motivation in offseason workouts. he looked bad
  6. red zone was pathetic! as a student for four years i absolutely hated it when people ragged on the students, but this year as a non-student season ticket holder i see what people have been talking about. it's never full and tonight was pitiful. the crowd otherwise was great in the second half. first half was pretty dead but what do you expect with a team that had one conference win. glad to finally see sek and ubel step up - i've been doggin on them both all year, but will give them major props for what each of them did tonight. if richardson had been able to find his stroke he woulda had a career night, first half looked like he decided "screw this, i'm winning this freaking game with or without the other four cause i'm tired of this sh*t." if they can somehow close the season with another win or two and steal one in big xii tourney, that'd be huge for the offseason, much more optimism than if they had lost out. nice to have a celebration beer afterwards instead of drown-my-sorrows night
  7. so i don't know if anyone on huskerboard ever noticed, but the last four years or so there had been a kid in the redzone who danced to every single song. he had choreographed the pep band songs and was very entertaining to watch (he always wore the husker hard hat). i believe his name was noah. anyway, tonight on sports nation they showed a northwestern student dancing to the music and talked about him.... it was noah! the kid went on to get his masters at northwestern. pretty badass, glad he got some recognition, great for him (if you know who i'm talking about, you understand)
  8. i don't know if this is fair or not, but i've already made up my mind. it's not being talked about much, but doc is searching for a "go-to-guy" that he can bring in with almeida this year. it didn't get a whole lot of pub when that guard decommitted awhile back, but i'm going to watch and see who doc brings in. he has said multiple times this year we need a scoring threat that takes over the last five minutes of a game, and a week ago he sent two of his assistants out to hit the recruiting trail hard and find that guy. if he can bring a guy in this april that ends up being a difference maker, then i'll give him more time. if he swings and misses and gets no one, he's got next year to win me back and if things aren't good next year, i may start calling for a hot seat under doc with all these other guys What makes you think he can get that player when after 4 years he still doesn't have that player? first of all, who said i do think he can get that player? i never once said "i think doc can get that player." i said i will judge him on whether or not he gets that guy. second of all, i do think there is a chance he can. remember roburt sallie? yeah, i know he's not here. that ain't doc's fault, it's admissions fault. dude is a scorer and he wanted to be here.
  9. why would you go to the women's game and not the men's? i know they win, so f*cking what? i'm all for supporting the women, i think it's great what they are doing and they deserve the state's support, but why not go to the men's game? give me nebraska men vs. san jose padre las locos state midtown chicago j.v. over a women's game any day of the week. yes the women are good and play a great game of bball, but come on. a class a high school boys game is more entertaining. i've gone to a couple women's games this year and i've watched a couple on tv, but it's tough. support the men. them losing is even more reason to support them, give them some confidence, they need all the help they can get to steal another one
  10. 1. exactly like the ku football deal. hadn't thot of it that way, well put 2. mccray COULD help, but if doc keeps the same coaching mentality he won't play half the games. doc didn't come close to playing him as much as he could have last year cause the kid just doesn't seem to get it on the defensive side and doc has made it clear if your defense isn't damn-near perfect, you ain't gonna get the minutes. i hate to say having toney would have changed the season, cause i honestly don't know how much he would have played. he would have helped no doubt, but he may not have had enough minutes to change a loss to a win
  11. i'm not entirely sure because i've never been there, but i was thinking that there is a hookah lounge just a few minutes away from campus. i don't really know why, but for some reason i'm thinking there is one around the intersection of 27th and O - i have no reason to know that but it seems to me i noticed it one day driving by. maybe someone else here knows?
  12. i don't know if this is fair or not, but i've already made up my mind. it's not being talked about much, but doc is searching for a "go-to-guy" that he can bring in with almeida this year. it didn't get a whole lot of pub when that guard decommitted awhile back, but i'm going to watch and see who doc brings in. he has said multiple times this year we need a scoring threat that takes over the last five minutes of a game, and a week ago he sent two of his assistants out to hit the recruiting trail hard and find that guy. if he can bring a guy in this april that ends up being a difference maker, then i'll give him more time. if he swings and misses and gets no one, he's got next year to win me back and if things aren't good next year, i may start calling for a hot seat under doc with all these other guys
  13. money and politics (and i would guess some cheating or at least "bending" the rules but i have absolutely nothing to give you to support my claim). they brought in huggins. it was common knowledge that whoever hired huggins (he had been out of collegiate coaching the year before they hired him) would also get several good recruits to come with him. he also hired a community college coach who brought one of his players with him, which just happened to be a four star prospect. the biggest thing is they pay dalonte hill a half million a year as an ASSISTANT (absolutely ridiculous in college basketball). hill was an aau coach in dc and brought beasley in with him. i believe the ncaa has now made it illegal to hire aau coaches to your staff, because schools like ksu just threw ridiculous money at aau coaches to convince their players to go to that school. nebraska doesn't do things the "shady" way, which unfortunately doesn't cut it in basketball
  14. i completely, totally, 150% agree. the season is lost, you're not playing for anything. you've got a new season starting with the big xii tourney and if you lose, it's over. just turn 'em loose and let them play the game they love. who knows, maybe they surprise you with a really strong showing saturday, build some confidence and finish strong. all of a sudden they are that extremely scarey team in the tourney that is playing with reckless abandon and could come out and punch any of the other 11 right in the mouth. i realize that won't happen, but the game plan for the past 13 games hasn't exactly worked so why not cut 'em loose? also like the comment about jeter. his play has been a little shaky the last couple games (had a few bonehead turnovers lately, uncharacteristic), but i think if doc pulled him aside and said "they're yours, have fun, kick ass" he would respond. of course doc knows his players better than we, but from the outside it looks like he could be the guy
  15. i should also point out that i believe doc is a good coach. i know other people disagree, which is why i was using quotes whenever i talked about a 'good' coach
  16. if you read what i wrote, my one exception was IF TOM OPEN'S UP THE WALLET. but it won't happen, we're behind in football compared to other schools, he certainly won't dish it out for bball if he's not for football
  17. and who is this 'good' coach? where does he come from? what about nebraska attracts him? what would he be doing differently? how would he be able to pull it off? why would he decide to come here over a mid-major that can walk through their conference, make the tourney and then wait for a basketball school to come after him? you have as good of a coach as you are going to be able to get. end of story. unless tom opens up the wallet, but that ain't happening. nebraska basketball doesn't have football's tradition or support, it's going to take time. right now you have a coach willing to work his ass off and doesn't mind not getting the support he deserves. this year sucks balls, sure, i'll be the first to admit this is 110% unacceptable, but nebraska was lucky to even get doc sadler, let alone this 'good' coach you're talking about.
  18. their last legitimate chance is CU at home. as of early this season they were on something like a 0-20something skid in away conference games. however, as good of a chance as they have to win that one, they have an even better chance to lead for 39 minutes and then blow a 20 point lead in a matter of 59 seconds. i can't say enough how much i love nebrasketball and, yes, doc. however, right now if doc and i were to go hunting i'm not so sure i wouldn't find him wandering into my cross-hairs at least a couple times. at the same time, knowing how pissed i am, i can't imagine the way he is feeling right now. he has made some EXTREMELY poor coaching decisions, but at the same time watching all the games this year, it's clear to me that more often than not doc actually has figured out how to win the game, it's his players that blow it. either cause they're mentally retarded (sek henry) or they're young, undeveloped talent. i don't care what you say, nebraska is not in a position to bring in freshmen that don't need to be developed, not yet anyway. doc took over a program that was run into the ground, and honestly i think his first three years went better than could be expected, which is what's making this year even harder to take. NU has led in the second half in 9 of the 12 conference games they've lost. in two years (and maybe even next year) you can expect to win 5 or 6 of those. that puts you at 6-7 or 7-6 with 3 extremely winnable games left. i'd be happy with an 10-6 record, plus you figure that team would beat st. louis, you're looking at a chance at 22-9 or 23-8. I know, i know, a lot of hypotheticals there; but guess what, in danny nee's 4th year he went 10-18. the very next year he went 26-8. don't give me this bs "oh, but danny was getting better players" doc has plenty of promising freshmen that can develop. i'm not taking doc off the hook or giving him any excuses, as this is absolutely unacceptable, BUT the big xii will not be nearly as strong next year and NU is losing nothing (anderson has been clutch and on fire lately, but no one will miss him next year. we got plenty of shooters that are more athletic sitting on the bench). i should mention most of what is written above was an attempt to convince myself i should hold on the my season tickets for another year. if you don't like it or think i'm a moron, that's fine. i'm just trying to find some way to convince myself there's still a sliver of hope. it's not working real well, after reading through it, i don't believe half of it myself...
  19. After reading your post, two questions come to mind. 1. How do you really feel? 2. Did NU lose? Before you answer, put down the knife slowly, take two steps back, count to 12, then give me an answer. vince, you managed to put a smile on my face. i even chuckled slightly. one of my favorite lines is "how do you really feel?". oh wow, i feel i'm about to go to the looney bin. i spent a couple hours losing my mind watching the game, got online to vent on a message board, couldn't think of anything to write, am home alone so i had no one to vent to, and now i'm sitting here reading comments from Vince from ShamWow and beginning to laugh histerically. i've f*cking lost it, gone nuts, and it's all thanks to doc sadler and vince from shamwow. i'm going to bed, vince. Night all! p.s. - yes, NU did lose and it took counting to 25 before i could even loosen my grip on the knife
  20. the game tonight was a joke. up ten points in the second half against IOWA STATE and you still manage to piss it down your leg?!?! Really?!?! F*cking pathetic. I've never brought a sign to a game, but I believe I will saturday. It will simply say: F*CKING PATHETIC
  21. My thoughts exactly. Every time I saw the Jets play this season, I thought I was watching O'Hanlon. Underrated but completely essential. He's gonna make some NFL defense very happy. i thought the same thing, but i think it's mostly because they are both white
  22. I agree with your comment about sek. he may be a good kid, i dont know, but he just doesn't add anything to the team anymore. as far as recruiting, doc is trying to find a niche. if he can bring in decent foreigners for a few years, he may start winning a little more consistently. once that is established, THEN he can go after the home run guy. also, i'm sure he is talking to "home grown" kids, it's just that he can't get them to come yet. i know many people were frustrated with maric - as was i - but he was a foreigner and he was pretty damn solid, like it or not. i know he wasn't a doc recruit, just pointing out that some foreign guys are pretty good. iowa state did the same thing with staiger and he was pretty darn good also.
  23. how great is it to be reminded that a nebraska men's team CAN win. after all the losing that's gone on the past month or so, this feels pretty damn great
