    O-H

Hey Buckeyes, I've noticed a lot of you guys joining these boards in an effort to reach out to the Nebraskans. I think it this is a great opportunity to positively represent our team here. These Husker fans are great people and hopefully some of the Big Ten crazy drama will be tempered by their presence. We all know those Buckeye fans that could learn a lot from them, but it is hard keeping 50,000 eggs in order. Let's give Nebraska a warm welcome into the Big Ten, and I would definitely recommend looking up some of their traditions and history (there are videos around this site too). Know thy enemy, yes? Anyway, Carry On. O-H

    hey

Even on the East Coast where Big Ten Football is about as relevant as NASCAR, Penn State still has a reputation for being full of a$$hole$ and racists (Western PA + Snobby out-of-state Northeasterners). M*ch*gan doesn't even have this reputation... In fact, people in New York have a very positive view of the people at that school.
  3. You should look forward to seeing a program that M*ch*gan can actually beat visit the Big House. Like Appalachian State.
  4. Watching PTI right now. Wilbon thinks the Big Ten will get 14 or 15 teams (+ Nebraska, Missouri, Syracuse, Kansas) in order to get the football, the good schools, and compete with basketball. I think Syracuse is really out of the blue - unless I misheard him - but it makes great sense for basketball. I don't care how many teams the conferences get, I just hope this really does signal the end of the bowl system. It would also be very cool to see my Buckeyes play the Cornhuskers every other year or so.
  5. By all means, I would love to be educated on the subject. It just appears that there is clearly a product here that people are willing to pay a lot of money for that we are willing to let slip through our fingers. If alcohol were illegal and there were one billion dollars of it seized, it would seem silly to us today that it would have to be destroyed - I mean, prohibition was done away with because we realized how silly this was, right? People who are tired of the "nanny state" mentality of the government don't see the contradiction in this... Someone who has explosives can go do harm to many people, but someone who has cocaine can only hurt themselves - willingly - short of throwing bricks at people. Then if you say "oh, it destroys families", well so does alcohol. So does adultery. So does money. No good reasons.
  6. I hope there is an evangelical collapse. As much as a conservative as I am, I am curious to see how conservative this country really is without religion in the picture, and whether they believe what they believe because they feel compelled to because of their religion or because they reached a logical or rational conclusion on their political beliefs. I am of the opinion that most conservatives in this country aren't - they just want a big government that does everything they want and coddles them just as much as they complain the Democrats do. It is still a mystery to me how conservatives in "Red" states complain about things like welfare when "Blue" states like New York get like $.80 back on every federal tax dollar and the "Red" states get closer to $1.50... Everyone seems to want big government (show me a time when federal government didn't expand...), but some people are honest about it and some people say the opposite purely as a political maneuver played on people's emotions and religious convictions. I would like to know where people like me - Libertarians I guess - honestly stand without these people.
  7. Surely you're not advocating we sell it and use the proceeds? Three years ago I would be flat out against such an idea, but now that I really think of it: - The only people who would suffer would be people buying drugs (if they do all "suffer" as opposed to having fun once in awhile). This is how we bring back natural selection is a society where "natural" selectors don't affect us as much. - There would be a lot of money in the economy that could also be taxed. - Jobs would be created for the distribution of the product. - Drug related crime would decrease as they would have to compete with legal business, as did alcohol related crime did at the end of prohibition. Basically, there is no good reason besides "morality" for why we are letting a huge source of income go untaxed. People are going to get what they want anyway. I doubt this shipment seizure makes any dent at all in the drug trade.
  8. I think it is ironically absurd, that in these economic times, we are going to destroy something worth ONE BILLION DOLLARS: BBC ARTICLE LINK You know the guy jacked up that operation is probably dead now.
  9. If he wasn't so iconic, I would say that Brutus is pretty freaking weird mascot as well: Brutus Buckeye on Wikipedia
  10. Rescue Me, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos are the best shows I have seen on television.
  11. I'm doing a quick survey among different people I know to see if myself and other managers should accept a bid from a whiskey producer for a market research project or refer it to another office (I work in market research). I work in New York, so I want to see if you Nebraskans would have different tastes/opinions than New Yorkers. Please help me by answering the following questions: Age range: 21-30/31-40/41-50/50+ Gender: Male/Female Without tax, how much do you typically spend on a 1-Litre bottle of whiskey? <$10 $10-$18 $19-$28 $29-$45 $46+ On how many occasions do you purchase whiskey in a month (any volume, including at bars/restaurants)? Never Less than once a month (infrequently) Once 2-5 Times 6-10 Times 10+ Times How much do you agree or disagree with the following statements, on a scale of 1-5, where 1 means strongly disagree, 3 is neutral, and 5 is strongly agree? 1. I prefer to drink whiskey clean or with a tap of water and/or ice than to combine it with other beverages, mixers, etc. 2. I prefer to drink whiskey that is produced in the USA (with the exception of Scotch). 3. I have a strong preference for specific varieties of whiskey (i.e., Bourbon, Scotch, Tennessee Whiskey, etc) 4. I prefer whiskey over other kinds of hard liquor. 5. I associate whiskey with success or class. 6. I associate whiskey with family or tradition. 7. What I choose to drink is heavily influenced by what my friends and family members drink. 8. I am able to detect the differences between high and low quality liquors easily. Do you have a strong preference for a particular brand of whiskey? If so, what it is? The last question is an articulation question. I would like to know what kinds of qualities you look for when selecting a particular brand of whiskey (not necessarily what makes the best whiskey, but what you like in whiskey). Thanks in advance, guys! You would be doing me a humongous favor. Also, an interesting discussion could come of this.
  12. So, A. McDonald's has "700 complaints" and the other places don't because people who eat at McDonald's are either: 1) Retarded, or 2) Trying to navigate a vehicle around a parking lot while drinking coffee, Meaning there was in fact nothing wrong with McDonald's Coffee and the company was just a victim of morons, or B. McDonald's should have had a warning that their coffee could cause severe burns, and because they didn't, they were negligent (even though everywhere else serves it nearly as hot, or by some methods, even hotter) for not pointing out this common sense concept. ... I'm going with A.
  13. Very unusual experience. Maybe the police officers were just lazy and figured that he wasn't that big of a deal.
  14. "Wolf Pack" At San Antonio Schools We need a massive generational do-over. I'm up for re-rolling the gene pool.
  15. Ann Coulter looks like Marylin Manson.
  16. That is actually a very good point. Never thought of it like that. It is just really hard for me to believe that anyone actually looks at this situation like that, from either side of the debate. I feel like most people resort to making every situation a racially hostile stand off instead of actually taking a more sensible approach.
  17. I'm divided on the issue because two different things are really at the heart of this. The first is that we clearly have some racist teenagers who want to stir things up for shock value. If you think those kids wear those cheesy shirts on any other day of the year, including Independence Day, you must be dense. I think any sensible American would be ashamed at these kids. Not ashamed because they wore an American flag to school - that is never something to be ashamed about - but clearly they organized an event to make the Hispanic people at the school feel uncomfortable. If I went to work out of the blue with an American flag for a tie on such a day, my Hispanic co-workers would probably feel antagonized by such a display. It's common sense. Now, if it were my habit to wear flamboyant ties all year round, so that it seemed purely coincidental that I showed up with an American-flag tie on Cinco de Mayo, then that is clearly fine. But only doing it with the intent of antagonizing Hispanics, that's just wrong. The issue is not that they were wearing American flag shirts. Nobody cares. It is that the kids clearly did it with the intent on making others feel uncomfortable in a learning environment. That is wrong and their parents should be ashamed. If they're not, they're probably racists too. Now, I don't think these kids should have been suspended. I support their first amendment rights. As pointed out before, there have been far worse things allowed to carry on in schools than someone wearing a flag as a counter-political statement, and at the end of the day, no crime was committed and they didn't do anything wrong. If Hispanic children were offended, I would say too bad. Honestly, people are too easily offended these days and they should realize that there are antagonistic people out there who are just ignorant. What it boils down to this is this: The kids wearing the shirts and the people who support then: You are right, but for the wrong reasons. This is not an us-vs.-them, this is about common social decency and respect. For a group of people so concerned about the disappearance of morals in our society, it seems to be perfectly acceptable to organize with your friends to make a political/social statement on a day that nobody would otherwise care about just to make other people feel uncomfortable. It just reeks of white trash. The reason you should support them is because of their constitutional rights, not because you have this ridiculous sense of outrage at this clearly racially charged (and motivated) situation, which you fail to identify as such.
  18. Up there with the organic food morons are the bottled water morons and more recently, the "anti-oxidant" and "super-fruit" morons. I swear, there are some people who buy pizza and an anti-oxidant juice drink because they think it just magically "cleans out their system". Some time ago, Coca Cola and Pepsi figured out that they could make their cola, but take out all of the ingredients except for water, but then sell it for twice as much... We have Dasani and Aquafina. Just because people think bottled water is healthier (in fact, it is more likely to be in violation of federal standards than tap water and therefore, less safe) they pay absurd prices for these nonsense products. That's why one day I want to be a great capitalist. I will rip off a great amount of people and they will thank me for it.
  19. ... What would you do? Funny Guide On How To Prepare (LINK)
  20. Yes. It is weird how 1969 brought out the best and absolute worst of the 1960s, almost in chronological order of the year - from best to worst. The early '70s were still very '60s though, like the early '60s were very '50s.
  21. Well that's a buzz kill. Thanks for the insight guys. I'm looking into doing this in the summer. The Catskills would be very convenient, but I think a little too close to home. I'm thinking of going West.
  22. KSU has one of the oddest mascots. Could they not afford a whole suit or something? A cat head on a human football player body is really weird.
  23. So I've finished reading a massive two-part biography of Teddy Roosevelt. In it, he falls in love with the Badlands of South Dakota, and often went on long expeditions out there to clear his mind. I am really interested in doing something similar and experiencing a trek out in nature for a few days. I've never done anything like it before and I was wondering if things like that are still possible, what with all the development in this country and land ownership and what not. I would also like to purchase a small-bore rifle (.22 LR / .17 HMR ?) and snag me some rabbits to cook if I were on such a trek. I haven't touched a rifle since boot camp. Again, I don't know if you can just bring a rifle out into "The Wild" these days, since I live in NYC and nothing is open land for even like fifty miles in any direction. Any thoughts on such a trek or parts of the country where such a thing would be possible?
  24. I bought a Sony Vaio last year. It is horrible. Windows 7 isn't causing me any problems - It is this ridiculously shoddy computer. It is a well-known error that sometimes you can't right-click. It is crazy how bad this thing is. Worst computer I have ever bought.
  25. If you were in Missouri, it would be "hurt that tooth" No offense Fro You mean, "hurt dat toof"
