  1. I thought there had to be an info post on him already but the search (for "Hayo Carpenter") only turned up one thread that barely mentioned him. Thanks for finding this again, guys
  2. According to Scout he has an offer and has Nebraska high on his list. of course the only other offer on his list is... Fresno State?! http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=8&c=1&nid=1980280 According to Rivals he's a 3* without an NU offer and only medium interest. Red? Nameless? have any reports/info on Hayo?
  3. In the first post i alluded to my own amazement that Nu was really barely mentioned in the article and not overmentioned as some news sources tend to do with Phillips stories. but... DING DING DING DING DING- WE HAVE A WINNER FOLKS! The news has apparently hit the AP wire, and here's the first sentence most newspaper readers probably saw: "Police are seeking former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips in connection with a domestic-violence case." but the The San Francisco Chronicle altered the sentence just a tad: "Police are seeking former Husker running back Lawrence Phillips in connection with a domestic-violence case." And a headline to match: Former Huskers RB Phillips wanted in domestic-violence case on Google news it looks like quite a few picked it up. but others apparently had no problem leaving it the way the AP wrote it. Of course the home of the 49ers wouldn't want to put a more home based headline like "Former 49er...". that would just make too much sense. (ok, rant over, thanks)
  4. i don't think i've ever really noticed the socks... i will now though. speaking of pant colors... weren'te the all-white (pre-2002) uniforms a bit unlucky for NU? ISU in 92; GTech in '91. i don't know of any others though. 2 games doesn't exactly constitue a curse. unless you do factor in 2002 then maybe you have some unlucky charms. I've always thought it was just the white-on-white that made the '02 away unis look so bad. but the old all-whites actually looked ok: http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/se...=50729607&cdi=0 Tennessee has all-whites in away games and they look ok too. The '02 design just had a special ugliness. well apparently a majority of the 2002 Huskers thought so...
  5. i don't know about beating Tech but i agree that it certainly won't be the drumming it was last year. The defense gets all the blame but most of the points were a direct result of an inept offense and innefective QBs providing plenty of gifts to TTU. hopefully that won't happen this year. it will still be tough for our thin secondary to control that offense though. The individual players in our secondary aren't as good as last year but if they play as a cohesive unit (unlike last year), they may actually be a touch better overall. i'm not making any predictions on Pitt but they are one of the most overrated teams this year and fully underserving of a BCS invite. the fact that they made it purely out of Big East ties just showed that the current BCS is hardly any different than the old bowl system.
  6. "their" being Miami or NU? at last check that's Nike and adidas respectively. though didn't Reebok get bought out by Adidas BTW?? "Traditional" unis to me means anything old school or reserved. as opposed to the outlandish Nike look. A few NFL teams subscribe to this: Colts, Raiders, Packers, Bears, etc. OU has the old school look, as do a number of Big 10 teams. the untraditional on the other hand... the Broncos- two super bowl wins=great. but IMO those unis are STILL ugly. Miami Hurricanes- ugly unis is almost a "tradition" for them. Oregon- bad colors for any uniform style but Nike makes it even worse. BYU- the infamous "Bib" uniforms. so ugly the NCAA had to outlaw them. Nebraska 2002- ugh sure, uniforms change constantly but an overall feel or style still remains. The "NEBRASKA" under the collar was added in 1996? or so. the double stripes were initially removed for the 1995 season. those were changes but nothing as drastic as 02. some use the Old school/reserved uniforms, some like the the faddish Nike creations, others are not exactly traditional but are also not as far out there as some of Nikes more infamous creations. to each his own. I for one will take the reserved look we have now over the Nike wannabe rags from 2002 any day.
  7. b/c of Butler getting hurt Groce has the best shot at starting. and Martz has been very complimentary of Groce's performance in training camp. DJ's right, Groce fumbled twice, i believe in preseason a couple years ago? only this year was Martz even giving him another look as a return man. though I haven't seen much on that lately, and Groce didn't get any touches in their last preseason game. maybe the Rams don't want to risk more injuries to an already thin secondary...? as for RI. good lineman. but probably looked better b/c he was next to guys that weren't exactly on par with our typical '90s Pipelines. besides, what was the guy really worth to the team when his classless BS on the field cost us field position from his occasional personal foul penalties? anyone recall his brilliant drive-stopping penalty in the 2002 CU game? I wish him well in the NFL but that CU game and his embarrassing antics against Michigan State (though they had their share of jackasses too) is how i will remember Richie's time as a Husker, no matter what he does from here on out.
  8. people seem to forget this (because it is kind of unbelievable IMO) but LP actually did well in NFL Europe. NFLE - Good on and OFF the field! who could've imagined? CFL - good on the field, typical jerk off the field. NFL - sucked on both counts. AFL - Incomplete. skipped out on the team after a few days- if that. IMO though, he could get on-field redemtion in the California Penal League!
  9. are these the same people that say TO only suspended LP for "one game". i've actually heard that one. from CU fans mind you, but they actually said that and believed it. and then went on to put Kellen Huston in the same category as Phillips. but what would be the hardest discipline TO could have done to LP? kicking him off the team. right? no temporary suspension, just cut all ties. so then LP is free with nothing else do between September 1995 until the april 1996 draft, but roam the streets of Lincoln,NE or go back to LA when he would have likely just committed another thugish act. if kicking a guy off the team would have better helped the guy then why this pattern?: He was kicked off the St. Louis Rams, and kicked off the 49ers, the latter having put him on a very short leash. the ultimate legal discipline from a football team: YOU'RE GONE. did that help him? apparently no. The Allouettes were short with him when he started acting up and told him to hit the road, that didn't help him either. see a pattern? tough discipline (as much as a team can do) or easy discipline. no matter what the guy just goes back to what comes natural to him: being a thug. sorry but the only discipline this guy needs is one that would be illegal coming from a football coach. maybe stick a ball & chain around the guy's ankle and put him on a road crew fixing pot holes or something and wearing a sign that says "DANGER to Society : Keep Back 150 ft"
  10. http://huskerpedia.com/games/1996/arizonastate96.html ASU - Poole 25 pass from Plummer (Nycz kick) ASU - Safety, Green fumbled out of end zone ASU - FG Nycz 27 ASU - Safety, ball snapped out of end zone ASU - FG Nycz 44 ASU - Safety, Frost tackled in end zone not to take anything away from the ASU offensive defense, but as i recall, those safeties were absolute GIFTS. Please correct me if anyone remembers these differently: "Green fumble"- wasn't that actually a bad option pitch by Frost? And on the "ball snapped out of end zone", bad communication-- Frost was in shotgun formation and wasn't looking when the center (Treu?) snapped and the ball flew right past him. you can't put all blame on one guy but Frost, whether he was nervous or unprepared or overwhelmed, was horrible in that game. -10 yards rushing?? in fairness, the usually good O-line didn't do much to help him out in that one though. That game is also a credit to Frost, he could have packed it in the rest of the season or have never recovered his confidence. but instead, the scapegoat of the ASU game eventually turned out to be one heck of a Husker QB. It could've been very different. by contrast, Daily had a horrible game vs SoMiss and never really recovered from it.
  11. we just couldn't let a year go by without some kind of LP's-in-trouble-again bit of news now could we? http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/2...bn18wanted.html Former NFL running back sought by S.D. police surprisingly, Nebraska is not even mentioned until the 4th paragraph of a 7-paragraph article. that may be some kind of record for US media (Canadian articles on LP either never mention or barely mention NU). One would think that women would have learned to avoid this loser by now: "Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips is wanted for questioning by San Diego police in connection with a domestic violence case that police said occurred here earlier this month. Phillips also has an outstanding felony warrant from Los Angeles for an unrelated domestic violence case, San Diego police said." here's the kicker though: "Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information on Phillip's whereabouts. Police said he is in excellent physical condition and should be considered dangerous."
  12. we can recruit astronauts then! and a few space cadets from Juco ranks. the same HI post said it would be larger than what the Ravens have but as i said over on that board- ya don't want anything too huge. The Ravens one looked pretty damn big, i think even that might be pushing it. from the webcam site though, it looks like it will be half scoreboard/ half screen. plus ad space. so maybe, the screen won't necessarily be as large as what the Ravens' have but the scoreboard/video thing as a whole will be that big. i guess we'll know for sure by 2006 or 07? an East stadium expansion would be a reasonable *next* stadium project. (what else could they do?!) anybody call pedey on it yet?
  13. I for one, don't mind at least having the exits in the North Stadium updated. anyone that doesn't sit in that end ever notice how long it takes to clear out? NO! because most people are already back in Omaha by the time its cleared! ok, slight exageration, but only a slight one. maybe that end worked better with the rest of the project. don't forget this isn't JUST adding on seats, its the whole Osborne Complex project too. also part of the project is a huge video screen/scoreboard on that end as well. on HI a poster said it was going to be along the lines of what the Baltimore Ravens have. i checked out the Ravens site to see what they had, here ya go: http://baltimoreravens.com/images/stadium/Sec_140.jpg An addition to the East end would be nice but this is MUCH MUCH more than just adding seats. actually that seems to be the least of whats being done! take the project drawings for example, the added seats didn't even get its own little picture: http://www.huskers.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml?DMC...=100&PALBID=525 it did on the webcam drawing though- and there's the screen too. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SP...00&ATCLID=78142 sure the added seats will be crappy, but i'll take this project now over anything else, this is also good for recruit bait!
  14. I was going to bring up LP as well. LP, Crouch, and now Incognito to one team-- OUCH. at least Demorrio Williams seems to be patching things up in Atlanta after the Pickens and Booker disasters. then of course, Wistrom is now gone, as is Weigert. Toby was great but only for a short few years. it looks like Groce may start some of this year. though Martz apparently still hasn't really figured out what a great return man Groce can be (may give him another crack at it this year though?) i don't believe i've ever defended RI before but it does suck that the Rams are offering 4th round $$ to a 3rd rounder. but what will waiting till 2006 help?!? He's dreaming if he thinks he'll be picked in the 3rd round again. if even the 4th. its either 4th round $$ now or less $$ in a lower round next year. and that's if anyone is even willing to waste another draft pick on him. yeah its below the market, but suck it up RI, its gonna be a lot more money than you'll get if you wait.
  15. Does anyone else see this list as being quite similar to the celebrations on EA's NCAA 2006? they also made the game-makers remove Rivals recruiting. extra benedits? steroids? real issues? no, there's not problem with anything like that. the NCAA must take care of offending lawyers pretending to be represent Native Americans and (gasp!) video game celebrations! though, a couple that i would agree with: when your team is down by 35 points in the 4th quarter, don't celebrate like a jackass when you just sacked the opponents' 3rd string QB. and the Gramatica-rule: its an extra point- not the game winning field goal in the Super Bowl. go back your bench and sit-down. Screw the NCAA and Throw up the Bones Blackshirts! (but maybe only when its, like, 3rd and 17 or so...? anyone else remember when they laid down heavier celebration penalties in 1995. I think NU may have been the first team to get that penalty that year when Reggie Baul pointed a #1 finger skyward on his way to the end zone against OSU and was flagged for it!
  16. some people like to wonder over to rival message boards to lurk or talk smack- but once in a rare while i like to wonder over to NFL message boards to see what they think of some of our former (though i do hate that word in this case) Huskers. sometimes you just get a better reflection of how there doing than you might get from the ol' every day news article. turns out, the Jaguar fans are still excited about Benard Thomas. most project that he'll make the practice squad. or maybe just hoping that he at least makes the PS: http://www.jaguars.com/mb/default.aspx?f=6...=6&p=2&m=482062 "JagBoi03" seems to be one of the few that is actually in touch with reality when it comes to BT. Maybe i have selective memory but does anyone recall Husker fans going this gaga over Benard before we found out that he was basically hot air with big mouth? and a scary thought, might we have any benards on this year's squad? i don't mean press conference highlighting trash talkers but i mean guys that seem to be great in practice and then disapear in real games? even after reading some of the happy articles coming out of camp i guess there's always that little paranoid pessimist in me.
  17. I didn't mean it to sound like i was dissing UNC, I do apologize if it was taken that way! I just meant that UNC is, as you pointed out, DII, less schollies, etc. Ive just never thought of UNC as a school that might possibly play the likes of a D1 team. so when i saw them listed on the page, i was actually surprised to see a team we scheduled on the same level as UNC. it made it even more rediculous that a guy at that level would compare the stadium of a prominant D1 program to one at their own level. To those attending the game, you have an added motivation (if you needed one): make sure mr. knox gets his mind blown by the Sea of Red.
  18. wow, its kind of embarrassing on two ends. embarrassing for Maine that a LB is bragging on... Montana?! and embarrassing for us that we're playing a team that has never played in a stadium louder than one in... yes- Montana. I had to check the Montana Grizzlies website to check out this LOUD stadium that left such a mark on a Maine player.. Washington-Grizzly Stadium- Capacity: 19,005; Max ~23,000 http://www.montanagrizzlies.com/content/fa...s/wgs.htm#about I realize that Maine is a really small-time football opponent (though they would absolutely kick our a$$es in hockey!). but until i looked at the page link above i guess it didn't fully dawn on me just how small-time. Montana plays teams like Northern Colorado?! I hate to bash UNC b/c i have a few friends that go there but come on, they barely even get mention on local Colorado sports news.
  19. ...but most of the article is about Jay Foreman playing with the second team. http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story...-14240102c.html Former Houston starter bides time on 2nd team a few other articles today http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports...ts/12364609.htm Buckhalter knee becomes more of a concern http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/s...ts/12365375.htm First-round pick struggles to get on field -- Fabian Washington http://www.cowboysplus.com/topstorync/stor...e.6534ec6e.html Shanle could see more time on the field also, apparently Aaron Golliday will START for the Card's when they play Dallas on Saturday. just last year he was on KC's practice squad.
  20. Top 5?!? did he even break the top 105? or 205? i wouldn't be surprised if we've had a few cornerbacks or safeties that had more sacks than he did.
  21. He's loud, he's proud, and the Jacksonville media has noticed. this is the second article on Benard since training camp began- at least that i've seen. needless to say, such attention is rare for an undrafted rookie. but, as we know, if Benard is anything, he's noticable (unless its during a game). Undrafted rookie makes no apologies for his lofty goals http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stor..._19472613.shtml Telling people "how it is" would mean that you actually play ON THE FIELD, like you SAY you do, right. hey, "the truth hurts". ok ok, backhand comments aside, here's hopin' Crunk Juice can back up his mouth in the Big League. even if his own history is against him.
  22. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c...SPG9OE5BOP1.DTL A'S REPORT Johnson has great respect for fellow Cornhusker Erstad Susan Slusser Thursday, August 11, 2005 When Dan Johnson was playing baseball at the University of Nebraska, there was a large photo of Darin Erstad, a former Cornhusker, hanging in the clubhouse. The two Huskers are now opposing first baseman, but Johnson still looks up to Erstad. "He's an absolute gamer, look at him,'' said the rookie, who turned 26 on Wednesday. "He plays the game at 100 percent all the time. He's a good guy to model myself after. That is what I want to be - to be as good a first baseman. He's a guy I'd love to be.'' Erstad remembered chatting with Johnson last season when Erstad was on a rehab assignment in the minors, and he has followed Johnson's career since he was with Nebraska. "I watched Johnson carry Nebraska to the College World Series,'' Erstad said with a smile. "He's already a good hitter - I wish I could hit like him. It stinks he's in our division because it's tough to cheer for him.'' side note- LA Angels of Anaheim take on the Oakland As at 3:35pm ET
  23. maybe you didnt use enough "liquid panty remover" well these girls were on a beach... so you'd have to consider a sun tanning lotion factor. aka "liquid panty remover" these were smallish bacinis too, which can be much easier to remove/put-on than some of the full body counterparts.
  24. and believe it or not the 'skers got a mention AGAIN tonight. a minor mention mind you but still, what are the chances? i caught in on the middle of it but apparently they were having a beach competition and one of the contests was between two girls who had to change their swimsuits- on air- but they had change underneath a huge sweat shirt. The first girl was from Denmark and the second was from (drum roll) Nebraska. Jay asked his band leader Kevin who he thought would win and Kevin replied "I'll go with the Cornhusker!" (to which the audience cheers). and to top it off the Cornchick won the contest before her opponent even had her panties back on. It may be a good omen.
  25. LJackson maybe?? on Houndin the Huskers Bowman said he was concentrating on defensive back for now- that would certainly be where we need him most. would Tomerlin at TE and DE be too much of a stretch?
