  1. As lifetime Husky, I would welcome Texas et al to the Pac-16 or whatever they want to call it. At this point I realize that there is currently one super conference: The SEC. Yes, they have a good ratio on Nat'l Titles the last few years as well as ESPN all over them, but top to bottom, they aren't as competitive as the other major conferences. What they do have is massive mounts of TV revenue. The Big Ten has the most lucrative TV deal. The Pac-10 has been the stick in the mud of college athletics for over twenty years now and we've paid for it in abysmal nat'l exposure and a joke of TV network in FSN, so I welcome a change to make us more competitive (in all sports, not just fball and bball). Some fans in the PAC-10 are quaking in their boots at the thought of adding half the Big-12, but the top three football schools, USC, UCLA and Washington have the ways and means to compete and will step up to the challenge. Personally, as a closet Nebraska fan, I'd rather have Neb and Colorado in the PAC than Texas and A&M, but I'd also like to have Miami and Michigan instead of Washington State and Oregon so whatever. P.S. before any inquiries about 0-12 seasons pop up, forget about it. The days of woeful mismanagement are over and I'll see you on 09/18!
  2. RB Chris Polk Rushed for 1019 yds on 204 carries. The line returns 4 out of 5 starters who collectively have 85 starts among them, and we're bringing in the top OLman from the state of California. They aren't necessarily All-Americans, but "god awful"? I would stay skeptical until the clock reads zeros.
  3. You're right. The reasons why there no longer are dynasties in college football have been pretty much established. It's just too bad that a lot of ADs feel that it's necessary to pad their schedules with cupcakes (look at Florida's OOC schedule last year, ugh). And as for Locker, you will probably won't see an athlete like him at the qb spot for a very long time. If the Huskies had even mediocre coaching during the the first two years of his career, he'd be a Heisman frontrunner rather than a darkhorse.
  4. Thanks for keeping my team's geographical rivals together. That said, would you organize the conferences to honor traditional rivalries or let the individual schools sort it out?
  5. Yeah, it's a definite possibility. This the first year in a decade that Washington has more talent than USC at any position other quarterback: Running Backs, Receivers and possibly DBs. Also, it's way too early to tell for sure, but based on their respective work history, Sarkisian is a better coach than Kiffin. On Idaho: We play them every two or three years and last year was the first time I've ever seen them with NFL caliber talent. They definitely turned some heads with their passing attack and the OL's blocking schemes. Really disciplined hard nosed team. That said, I don't think Nebraska has to worry. Idaho has to play four quarters against you. They'll try to get in a shoot out with you and hope that your offense makes some mistakes.
  6. Husky fans are considered the most "SEC-ish" fans in the Pac-10, but we have some bandwagoneering jerks as well. They get their kicks trolling message boards. I'm not going to say that I'm confident about the Nebraska game, but despite how gawd awful we've been the last few years we still protect a home record close to .700. Fresh off an 0-12 2008 we got LSU for the season opener. I was pretty worried about the stadium being empty by the 2nd quarter, but the Dawgs marched down the field and scored on the opening possession in four plays. The place was rocking (finally). We ended up losing the game by 8 and went 5-2 at home on the year, but ever since then I haven't ruled us out in any game. The media attention will be on your marquee defense vs. our emerging offense, but our defense is on the rise. Based on what we have, it looks like an aggressive ball hawking defense that is prone to giving up a big play. The interior line is deep as is the secondary. The ends need to stay injury free as do our linebacker corp which is uncomfortably green after the first unit. I would be surprised if this one is decided anytime other than in the last three minutes. Heartbreaks await.
  7. There's nothing like going to a UW football game by boat! Hopefully it will be a nice weekend, our September games usually have great weather: Sunny, low 70s something like that. Definitely take a walk through campus and find Drumheller Fountain. You'll get a nice view of Mt. Rainier framed by campus and the autumn leaves. I'd also advise heading out to West Seattle. It's off the tourist path has got some great views and some decent fish and chips as well! If you want to go to a bar for some refreshments and to watch some highlights of the game avoid the Ram in U Village like the plague. Try the Big Time Brewery in the U district instead. The atmosphere isn't great, but school won't be in yet so the frat boys will be undetectable and the beer is unbelievable and hard to find elsewhere. If you want something a little more formal check out Ray's Boathouse. What sort of turn out do you expect from NU fans? We had Boise State and Ohio State here in 2007 and both schools traveled extremely well, I'd say 10,000 OSU fans and closer to 15,000 BSU fans. Prediction: UW -23 Nu -17 Welcome to the Board Muddy! Seattle is a beautiful city. I actually have family that lives around Seattle (Kent and Auburn) and my dad was raised in the area. I lived in the Seattle area until I was 10. Really looking forward to this game. My wife and I were in Seattle last year and my aunts, uncles and cousins were already giving me crap about being a Huskers fan. Should be a lot of fun! I'm from Tacoma originally, so I know that area all too well! And it's always fun to have a early season opponent like Nebraska. Creates a nice buzz around town. It saddens me that next year UW will be playing a 1-AA school for the first time. Seriously, why do I want to pay 60 bucks to a see 65-3 thrashing of Cupcake Technical College of the Nazareth?

  9. Ok, if you guys beat us and go on to win the NC I'll live with it. However, it's going to be a game with huge implications for UW. Last year we went 5-7 and were about four bonehead plays away from being 9-3. By the time Nebraska rolls into town, we'll be road tested at BYU and Syracuse at home will be the prep for you guys. It's actually a friendlier OOC schedule than we've had for a while. We return pretty much all the pieces on offense. Besides Locker, we have a depth at RB. Chris Polk is the every down back; he rushed for over 1,000 yards last year and pretty much all of those were after contact. The offensive line is mediocre but we have a bunch of pass catchers, including out of the backfield which will keep opponents on their heels. Jermaine Kearse is the clutch reciever and James Johnson is the playmaker. We are still recovering from the worst stretch of defensive football UW has seen since I've been alive. We lost our top two defenders to the NFL draft but the rest of the D is back and maturing. The Line looks a lot more physical in year two of the staff's new conditioning system. Senior Weakside LB Mason Foster is the leader. In 09 he was near the top of the Pac-10 in nearly every statistical category, and had that " " against Arizona last year. The Secondary is the strength of the defense, S Nate Williamns, CB Desmond Trufant and newcomer Will Shamburger are hard hitters. Converted reciever Anthony Boyles is still a little raw but gives us a 6'3" corner with a mean streak. Obviously I'm pretty excited for our chances this year, and look forward to hearing about the Huskers (so I can keep up with my Lincoln native cousin when he comes to visit in September). Go Huskies!
  10. Hello Husker fans. The best place for Husky news and discussion is actually the Seattle Times UW Football Blog. Here it is. Our resident reporter does an excellent job collecting links and relaying story lines and there is a forum there as well. It's slowing down a bit since Spring ball is over, but it's never too early to talk college football, right? I can honestly say Nebraska is my favorite opponent. My family always has a reunion when the Dawgs and the Huskers meet up and this year is no exception. It's been long enough that I've rid myself of the taste of that 55-7 debacle the last time we met. I think both our programs are on the rise, although you guys weren't driven into the dirt quite like we were. Still, it will be fun to see how we stack up. For me, it will feel a little like our 2000 home game against Miami. Both teams were thought to be pretty good but it was definitely a statement maker for the victor. Fortunately, the Huskies brought the house in the first half and held on for the win. I'd like to know a little about this Nebraska team and how you guys feel about your chances this year, so I'll check in from time to time. Bow Down To Washington!
