  1. I should hope that's the tenor of most fans. Anyone expecting us to vie for the MNC after what we saw from our offense last year is heavily into the kool-aid. We need massive improvements to be in contention. It's possible, but I'm guessing one or two losses, and that's without brain cramp games like ISU. The brain cramp game is the biggest wild card for NU. However, I would argue that 8 turnovers is a bigger fluke than NU putting up 33 in the Holiday Bowl. NU will be favored to win every game leading up to October 16. I think most would agree that game is a toss-up, but if they win that one, they would for sure be favored in all of their remaining games. Worse case scenario, IMO, is a 10-2 season (losing to Texas and to an opponent they "should" beat), which would still put NU in the Top Ten at the end of the season (depending on CCG and bowl game results). The ranking seems justified to me. Let's assume we do go 10-2. Texas is the toughest team we play, so it's reasonable we could stay in the top 10. However, Mizzou is likely the second best team we play. If we lose to them, chances are we don't even make the Big 12 Championship Game. If we don't make it to that game, I don't see how we could still be ranked anywhere close to the top 10 at the end of the season. I still think NU could finish in the top ten, even with losses to Texas and Missouri. Both Iowa and Penn State had two conference losses last year, and ended the season in the top ten. Even NU, with four losses, finished ranked 14th last season.

  3. That was a well written response by Mandel. I don't agree with his overall assessment, but he at least backed his opinions up. The only thing he didn't really address was the QB situation (he assumed that Lee would be the starter). From reading this board, it doesn't seem like it's a certainty that Lee will be the starter.
  4. I don't think it was a mistake to put "Beat Texas" in the video, but I do agree with your assessment that it was a mistake to remove it.
  5. If we are up with the game in hand, I wonder if Bo would call a timeout with :01 left on the clock? That would be effing hilarious. That would be one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a football game.
  6. Yep...this. History's your history, and while you can't always rest on your laurels, that doesn't diminish the greatness of the past. I picked from the beginning. Obviously, NU had down years in the 2000s, but that history and tradition is why they were coveted by the Big Ten. Nebraska is still recognized around the country for their history. There's a reason the Big Ten ADs voted unanimously.
  7. wait till you go to columbus and have AAA batteries thrown at you......then u will make them #1 edit: if your curious on what your trip to columbus will look like watch this I had no issues in Columbus last year. In fact, I haven't had issues while visiting any Big Ten stadiums, and I've been everywhere except PSU and Purdue.
  8. I honestly see this as the most likely scenario. Even if they are games that wouldn't have been part of the TV package in past years, I could see the Big 12 putting them on to withhold more money from NU. My understanding is that NU gets all of the profit from their PPV games, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 tried to stick it to NU, one last time.
  9. Well anyone who has Directv or Dishnetwork would get it already. I am sure TWC will be getting it soon. Are you certain? I had Dish until recently and don't remember having the BTN I know for certain Directv shows it nationwide. I am in Des Moines so I am considered Big10 country and I get it here on Dishnetwork. If you dont get it in your basic package outside the footprint you should be able to get it with the sports pack. Edit: this is from the BTN site The Big Ten Network is available to up to 73 million homes nationwide. The Big Ten Network is available across North America on satellite providers such as DIRECTV, DISH Network and Shaw Direct (Canada), telco companies such as Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse, and on cable in 22 of America's top 25 media markets. The network has cable distribution agreements with Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox (Cleveland), Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, RCN, Service Electric, Shaw (Canada) and more than 250 additional cable operators across North America. Customers of DIRECTV and DISH Network have access to the network regardless of where they live. Verizon FiOS and AT&T's U-Verse are rolling out the network across the country. Cable subscribers inside the eight Big Ten states receive the network on either an expanded basic or digital basic level of service. Outside the eight states, excluding St. Louis, Omaha and Louisville, cable operators who carry the network make it available on a variety of packages. Select markets where the network is available are listed below. If you do not see your city listed here, contact your local system office to see if there are plans to add the network. Texas Sucks So wait a second, I can't get the BTN in Omaha with Cox cable? It should be available on a sports tier, most likely only available with digital cable, but it specifies Cleveland, maybe it doesn't expand outside of there. Maybe it should read, Outside the eight states, cable operators who carry the network make it available on a variety of packages. Excluding St. Louis, Omaha and Louisville. Meaning these three cities dont carry it at all. That makes sense. Now that I reread that portion, I can see that being the correct interpretation.

Texas Sucks I believe Time Warner is the primary cable provider in Ohio. So, similarly to Dish Network, a contract with the BTN has already been established. For both providers the contract would allow the channel to be available on a sports tier outside of the Big Ten footprint, but require it to be on a basic tier inside the Big Ten footprint (which creates more revenue for the BTN). I don't know what would happen if NU was able to get a couple games on the BTN this year, but I would assume that once NU is an offical member of the Big Ten (7/1/11) the BTN would be required to be on a basic tier in Nebraska, on both Dish Network and Time Warner. Again, that is just an assumption.
  12. I like "The Challenger" the most. I like the name "The Cornbelt," but it would feel too much like pro wrestling.
  13. The only current Big Ten stadiums I have not been to are Purdue, PSU, and the new Minnesota stadium (I am making the trip this year). Even as an Iowa fan, I will say that if you are only able to make one road trip to a Big Ten stadium in your lifetime, it has to be The Horseshoe.
  14. Initially I thought it was a virtual lock for PSU to be in the "west" division, but the more I read, the more I think they will remain in the "east." I am starting to like the idea of Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa vs. Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan.
