  1. It can't be that undervalued Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, OSU, PSU and MSU all are land grants. Few people know this, but MSU was the first college in country opened to teaching scientifc agriculture(PSU was the second), it predates the Morrill Act by seven years. A large amount of our campus is dedicated to farm land (and if you ever visit a very cool place IMO to take a tour)http://www.ans.msu.edu/community/facilities/farms.html so AAU does have instituions that are heavily involved in ag research. What ever UNL's issues are with AAU I just hope they're resolved soon.
  2. Advantage? How about more time to tailgate and/or sleep off the night before? I didn't like noon starts when I was in school and would've loved that extra hour. Hell, even now though I'm not really out the night before like I use to, I'd much rather have a later start. The best tailgates were always the 330 or laters starts so I'll glady take that extra hour of tailgating
  3. Lil Red? Top of Big Ten? I'm not sure whether it's a blowup doll or a mascot. Really what does a slow kid have to do with husking corn? Herbie OTOH is pretty decent my advice for the move ditch other guy. Put him up for adoption, bury him an endzone at Memorial Stadium(the Jimmy Hoffa) do what you have to do get to rid of him
  4. Doesn't M*ch*gan have the highest unemployment rate in the United States? Columbus is not a rust belt city; it is very modern, home to many large fashion, communications, and finance companies and has a vibrant cultural scene (especially our German town) and great places to eat. People in Columbus are great. OSU has a reputation for rowdy fans, but obviously, as scUM, you would be on the worst of the receiving end of everything - and I've experienced the same by M*ch*gan fans even as far away in New York. On the whole, OSU fans are very involved with their teams compared with other schools and very passionate about the sport. It is a religion in central Ohio for many people. The thing that irks me about so many M*ch*gan fans is that most never attended UM, but unlike fans in Ohio, are incredibly arrogant about being more intelligent or more academically inclined because they're UM. It's one of the snobbiest trends in sports. People live vicariously through UM even if they never went there. If true, this is ridiculous... It happens all the time. Standard response is to just ask them what year they graduated from UM, and watch them flounder looking for a comeback. The worst example was the Mexican guy cleaning the floor in my apartment building. Barely spoke English, but was able to call me a stupid Buckeye, and ask me how I liked working at McDonald's. At Michigan State, such people are known as "Walmart Wolverines." You can't help but laugh about it. Awwwww. I love when the Sparties try and talk trash. Sooooo cute. You have internet access in your trailer home?
  5. In a word: yes. Nothing ticks off MSU fans as much as the Walmart Wolverine crowd you haven't lived until some minimum wage worker cracks jokes about you going to "Moo U" only to find they could get into State if they tried. Thanks they shut pretty quickly when ask where they went, but still it gets annoying. To make matters worse they're fair weather, don't try bringing up basketball, because they'll just tell you "I don't follow basketball"(with a Fab Five stuff in their dressers). Some example from the wild http://walmartwolverines.com/page/1 The pleather jacket pretty much standard issue for WW crowd
  6. Once in a while we will have someone, as far as the last one I can think of--only tOSU, would be Nick Swisher. We just don't have the facilities to keep up with the Southern schools, we have some very nice stadiums that I'm sure Nebraska will enjoy winning in, but we can't use them until late April. I think because the schools realize that we just won't be able to compete with the baseball powers they don't put a lot into it. From what I can remember when I was still in school tOSU had one of the better teams in the league, but I never heard a thing about it. tOSU had a shot at the CWS a few years back, and got beat by SW Mizzou St in the super regional (the same SWMS) that beat NU in the Lincoln Regional. It has been said that some NU baseball players/recruits are not particularly happy about the move to the Big 10. Also, I guess that baseball recruiting is more difficult as teams cannot "oversign" recruits. FYI, NU's wrestling program is very good. For years it was one of the tops in the nation, but has fallen off a little in the past couple of years. Now we need to swipe UNO's hockey team From some of the articles I have read, some of the hockey fans in the Big Ten are hoping something like that would come to fruition. Nebraska getting a team would allow us to have a conference league instead of the deal we do now. Hockey is big for the schools that participate in it and if we can actually get a Big Ten league going I think those schools that don't currently field a team, would do so. One of the things I like about hockey is that we see some different teams and in Michigan alone there 7 D-I programs, 6 of them who play in our conference, so nice getting to play all these teams in the state. A Big Ten only leauge would likely kill off some programs.
  7. Next to MSU the OSUMB aka The Best Damn Band in the Land is my fav and it's not just because we share a hatred of certain school OSU pregame The famous Script Ohio
  8. What would gameday be without the bands and the Big Ten has some amazing ones and so here some vids from around conference. First up of course are my Spartans Spartan Marching Band on it's way to the stadium during the CMU game. One of our band traditions is to carry flags to represent conference members so in 2011 the Big Ten Flag Corp will be adding another member for NU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnvr_MCbgFs Some of the pregame game show with the SMB performing the kickstep entrance and spinning the S
  9. I've been games in Columbus, Madison and Ann Arbor. UW definately rivals MSU run in terms of campus beauty and Madison is an awesome. Ann Arbor is nice city, but they're athmphere is kinda boring. East Lansing isn't good a C-bus or Madison , but if you're 25ish EL is a blast just about ever bar in town geared to students. Campus during fall with including of the spartan statue and the Beaumont Tower playing the alma mater The tennis courts is where students tailgate if you're a NU student or recent grad(or just young a heart) is the place to be. If you don't have a drink the trust me the MSU crowd will gladly provide you one. During last year's MSU/UM game it had been raining earlier and the area pretty muddy, people mud doing slides and wrestling in the mud pit that had formed. I only wish video of when these hot girls did a UM vs MSU mud wrestling match
  10. Eff that, the Big Ten lobbied for years to get a championship game with less than 12 teams. If the NCAA gives them a game Jim Delany needs to going on an ass kicking rampage at the NCAA offices
  11. i am thoroughly enjoying this, and what is even better (ok, not better, but a close second) is that the Pac 10 is stuck with colorado, only taking them thinking it would cause the downfall (along with the assumed departure of NU) of the big 12 and they could get whoever they wanted. edit: i don't understand why they are blaming the aggies? for staying? UT could still leave? and they are blaming Dan Beebe? for what? finally doing his job? Actually they the Pac 10 did fine CU isn't best football program, but it did give them the Denver market. More importantly they didn't let UT come in and ruin the conference with BS like this: In the 11th hour, after months of telling us they understand the TV rights, they're trying to pull a fast one on the verge of sealing the deal in the regents meeting," the source said. "They want a better revenue sharing deal and their own network. Those were points of principle. (The Pac-10) wants to treat everyone fairly. It's been that way for months of discussions http://www.denverpost.com/commented/ci_15295447?source=commented-
  12. College football -- and college athletics in general -- will get the full attention of the higher education committee of the state's House of Representatives on Wednesday morning. That meeting, thanks to a five-day public-notice law, will come a day after the Texas and Texas Tech boards of regents meet to discuss whether their respective schools should stay in the Big 12 or leave for the Pac-10. While some believe the regents will vote on moves Tuesday, Branch, the chair of the higher education committee, believes the schools will wait until after Wednesday's hearing. "To make a final decision before Wednesday," Branch said, "would not be wise." Branch said the chief executives of Texas (Bill Powers), Texas A&M (R. Bowen Loftin) and Texas Tech (Guy Bailey) already have accepted their invitations to testify before the committee. Branch also hopes to have representatives from Baylor, Rice, Southern Methodist, TCU, Houston, North Texas and UTEP. Branch also has invited several economists as well as the commissioners of the Pac-10, SEC, Big 12, Mountain West and Conference USA. 13. It's not about academics while ND is comparable to B10 schools at the undergrad level they aren't in terms grad level research. I think money and history are the drivers here sure they haven't been relavent recently, but they are still a big TV draw. Then there are such deep historic ties to ND with so many schools in the Big Ten. Even if OU wasn't good wouldn't want them to join becuase of your shared history? Just a bit random info ND was actually very critical to MSU getting into the Big Ten. In late 1940's we wanted to upgrad our schedule as way to show we were worthy of being admitted ND agreed to do a home and home series with us which was huge given our program stature at time and ND insisted that the gate be split 50/50 even though MSU was offering 80%.
  14. How much of a factor is trying keep the big 3 Texas schools together? UT and A&M could get into the B10 if they wanted, but the conference doesn't want Tech or any other of schools that could be headed to the Pac-10.
  15. I also want to send a welcome to the Huskers from Spartan Country. Looking foward to seeing you guys play in EL.
