  1. West very well could be a natural at safety, where he will more often then not be "looking" at the qb towards the wr. At corner his biggest problem was not playing the ball.....not that he wasn't always in position (or other boneheaded things like knocking the wr off his route in v-tech game on big play). Somebody questioned his athleticism, that won't be a problem, in fact he is one of the more athletic guys on the team....has been more mental and technique problems with him in the past. Should be an interesting battle down the stretch.
  2. The whole notion of using so and so as examples of 2 or 3*'s to succeed is an annoying mythical approach set by many nebraska fans when our recruiting is going bad. Everybody uses examples of West Virginia and V-tech, but even then neither of those teams have had national champion squads. While USC, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma have (while also being much more consistent). While we have some 3* that will play this year that are very good (prince being a perfect example), a lot of times this can be a simple flaw to the system. Prince didn't go to many camps to get his exposure, his talent was always top notch, but the exposure was not. Same might result in Brent Qvale of North Dakota. I believe the key is those consistent top 15 classes, thrown in with some under the radar "true athletes". You can't take an under the radar guy that just has huge stats, he needs to have athletic ability. A great year might happen here and there, but to be consistently in the top 10 you need top 15 classes. Factually it hits you directly in the face time after time with statistics. If you had 10 grand and said you have a 30% chance of doubling it at this casino, and a 5% at this one nobody in their right minds would go to the 5% casino. While every once in a while that 5% will win and the 30% will not. This still does not mean your going to take that chance. Same applies with recruiting....not every 4-5 star is going to pan out....but if you have 5 highly ranked guys and 5 under the radar guys chances are 2-3 of the highly ranked ones will do something while probably 1 will of the other 5.
  3. It's not hard to say. I've been to most of the states, just not the actual campuses. Sorry to bash UNL but it's just not a great campus. KU vs. UNL (in my impartial opinion since i'm not an alumni)...KU wins in nearly every category (except gameday during football season, and they make up for it during basketball). I'd take 4-5 FL schools over Nebraska any day, mainly because the cities they are in. Same way with Cali schools, and a few Washington schools. The city is as much a part of the campus as the couple hundred acres it sits on. The city contributes to the campus culture. Culture is certainly something that UNL is extremly lacking. I grew up in Nebraska. Going to visit friends at UNL was no different than my life growing up. Plain, mundane, and the whole place was beef eating, republicans. (which I'm one of but still...). Arizona State, amazing. Duke, NC, NC State, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Virginia Tech - all awesome campuses. Notre Dame - nuff said. Even the Ivy league schools all have campuses that put Nebraskas to shame. How about Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, etc in the Big10? Head and shoulders above UNL. UNL's campus lacks the architecture that makes numerous other campuses unique. (-1) It lacks the city. (-1) O st. bar scene is nothing to be impressed by, and everything else within 3 miles of the campus is borderline industrial-ghetto. It lacks beauty. (-1) There are more weeds in the grass than lawn. Arizona St. almost has more trees than UNL's campus. The party scene is fairly week in comparison to a campus like Columbia. (-1) History (-1) Weather (-1) Public transportation (-1) Diversity (-1) local jobs post-graduation (-1) Although Omaha is helping with this. Outdoor life (-1)...you could go on an on. There are many great things about the school like some of the facilities for athletes...but since I'm about 75 pounds and 5 inches shy of ever being an football player, me personally...I'd pick another campus to spend my 4 years at. And I could name 50-100...regardless of every seeing them I'm glad you and SkerChicago don't recruit for the Big Red. Your sales pitches suck. I personally disagree with much of what both of you say, but I'll leave it at that. Don't get your panties in a bunch just cause someone disagrees with you. I've been to campuses all over and UNL is very average. I love UNL, but honestly your post hits the nail on the head. Players will come to Nebraska because of the football and the fact as an academic school we are vastly improving....but not because of the town or the architecture or anything else. In fact I got my first degree from UNO because I didn't have any idea what I wanted to do and UNO's campus was just as nice and that part of Omaha was much more attractive (in fact the whole city of omaha>>>>>>>>>lincoln (besides game days)). I am now getting a degree from Lincoln as well, but that is mainly because of in-state cost and the fact I am going into broadcast/media and UNL's journalism college is one of the best in the country. But I am not going because of the town or campus....in fact if tuition out of state wasn't so much I would have probably been headed to KU (Lawrence is an awesome town).
  4. Didn't pull the offer, it was conditional. He was suppose to "at least" maintain weight and improve. He came in 15-20 pounds lighter and did not have a good showing. Him decommitting was a good way to save face and jump on another offer. Good for him, good for us (doesn't make us look shady, when in reality there was nothing shady about it......just the national perception thingy)
  5. Welcome to the board. With that being said, I disagree. The best thing for Nebraska would have been for him to wait to decide until December or so. This would have given our coaches the chance to see if he has fully recovered from surgery and offer him if they were so inclined. This is all assuming that the coaches didn't flat out tell him that we weren't taking any more high school linebackers (again, assuming Santos is 'N'). Even if Santos isn't in, we still have several other lbers much much higher on our board then Cole. Cole would have been a nice walk-on (a real nice walk on) but sometimes our coaches get to a point and reach on prospects. I like the idea of not giving them the chance to reach on a prospect and having to work (which for the first time, they are working completely through the year) for what are better prospects.
  6. First post on this board, but this is good for Nebraska. I like the Fisher family, but from all accounts we have much much higher players on our board and unless he absolutely blows up his senior year, was not going to receive an offer from Nebraska. Good for him that he is going to a good d-1 school, good for us we don't have to hear "will he or won't he get an offer" all through the year.
