  1. Broken left wrist, he can still play right? Would this mean Darlington is up?
  2. Keep in mind that Newby is an outside zone/stretch/zone read back and Zig is an inside power/power back. I liked the downhill runs out of the I-formation, but its nice to have both to switch it up on teams. It makes your running game more versatile.
  3. Sometime, the season doesn't always go the way you planned. Yes, a single play can take the wind out of your sail, especially when you are a team in transition with a new coach. I hate when fans "throw the baby out with the bath water". Its a knee jerk reaction. You want to complain about being 6-7, go ahead. I dont like it either, but it could have been much much worse. Anyone who has been around football knows how hard it is to keep a locker room focused on winning and getting the ship going in the right direction. Yes there were ugly loses (Purdue & Illinois), yes we turned the ball over, but the kids never gave up. I am excited about what this seasoned staff can do with this team in the off-season. I think with better QB play (whoever that may be), we will have a chance to contend for the Big 10 title. Its not what you do, its how you do it.
  4. Why are we not setting up a return. We cannot go "Punt safe" every time. Thank you for providing the video. I would love to see the cut ups for evey punt return last year (I know this is not possible). If we went punt safe on 25 of 25 punts last year, the special teams coaching staff is in question. Any kind of punt return should always have spotters to make sure the ball is punted.
  5. Offensive Coordinator has to take some heat here. This is bad. It has been bad. We need to become a more balanced attack to keep defenses on their heels. We need better schemes against top strong opponents.
  6. Being a punt return has far more to do with heart and desire rather than scheme. I dont see us coming after a bunch of punts, so we should have a return set up. Its one or the other.
  7. I had defense on the mind. Lol, yes Terrell Newby. He had 1 retunr for 10yards last year. Westerkamp had 4 or 5 muffed punts last year. Not sure about the hands comment. I take explosive play making ability over handds in my opinion. Especially when the guy you put out there for "hands" doesnt catch the ball. We need all the short fields we can get.
  8. 2013 Jordan Westerkamp 19 returns 51 total yards 2.68 yds per return 2012 Ameer Abdullah 16 returns 209 total yards 13.06 yds per return What will the coaching staff do to address this? Is this a personnel issue? Are Terrell Newby or De'Mornay Pierson-El the answer? I feel like that is 10 yards that we will need per return.
  9. The thing that worries me the most is I do not think Minnesota can beat any of those teams on our remaining schedule.
  10. Northwestern @ Michigan Michigan St. @Penn St. Iowa How many of the remaining games must Pelini when to keep his job? Where do those wins come from? Can he do it? Here is my take: W (55/45 chance)-Northwestern L-@ Michigan L-Michigan St. W-@Penn St. L-Iowa Would this be enough to keep his job?
  11. I really dont make much of this interview. Has nothing to do with whats going on on the field. And Pelini makes a great point. What do Nebraska fans want from him exactly as far as his behavior is concerned. Not a huge Bo fan but I feel like he was spot on.
  12. It doesnt matter what the coaches know, it only matters what the players know.
  13. Flashes of greatness is not greatness. this is why he should be a package and not a starting QB.
  14. In 2012 Taylor Martinez had 7 TD and 6 INTs against Ranked Opponents. He had 17 TDS and 7 INTs against non ranked opponents.
  15. please notice decline in October through December. The games get tougher and he gets worse.
  16. Experience is a factor but when your Senior QB cannot keep a bad defense off the field and maintain drives because his inability to throw the ball for first downs or scan the field for open receivers it makes a difference. All this talk about what defense we did it against is non sense. Yes, they are an FCS school that is not very good on defense but they are a top ten FCS school. TA did exactly what he was supposed to do. You throw out statistics, those are great. but what about the stufff that doesnt show up in the stat column. Moxie, leadership, g amesmanship, and footwork. (i.e. The pitch that TA made near the goal line. WOW! I havent seen that since eric crouch when I was a ball boy for the k state games!) I have never....NEVER seen T mart with a sense of urgency. Yes his stats look great at the end of the year. He pads them against FCS schools. If you look at them against quality opponents they are HORRIBLE!!! 59% comp % versus BCS Winning teams. http://www.cfbstats....ense/split.html
  17. It's like conceding a whole yard before the ball is snapped. Who else runs a 2 gap? First and 7 considering they do it for 3 plays. It is done primarily when the defense is expecting a pass play when the extra yard gives some momentum to a DT pass rush to help collapse the pocket. The one yard is to give time for the defensive lineman to read the steps of the o-lineman. Its a read step. The 1 yard allows for the time to read it.
  18. we are playing a defense with personnel we dont have. We play a 2 gap with 4 d linemen (it does not have to be a 3-4). The 2 gap technique offers better drops from LBs, frees up the backside backer for pass drops, and they shuffle instead of running through runfits. HOWEVER, it creates small gaps the RBs can run through because DL cannot get off their even blocks. This also slows down pass rush. Rushing a whole man as opposed to half man leaves you with bullrush or kleko moves. I have not seen anyone Kleko. Rushing half a man is when you see gregory in a speed stance and speed rush. Right now him and Moss are the only ones they allow to do that. Every now and then you will see them let the inside guys do it. For the most part they are lined up in 2's (head up on the guards) and play 2 gap.
  19. Ok, you make a great point. But lets figure out this quality opponent thing. I think that SDSU would beat Wyoming. And if they are not a quality opponent then why is our defense giving up 465 yards in total offense to them? As far is offense is concerend, TA and RK3 did exactly what they were supposed to with a non quality opponent. Everything was fluid. Smooth. TA has moxy. Intangibles are hard to find. If Martinez has turf toe then and a bad throwing mchanics then what good is he really? Is a healthy Martinex better than either one of the guys who played on Saturday? TA picked up 3 3rd and +8s. We stayed on scheule. When we do go back to Martinez in the bye week YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE. I think this is the reason we havent see much of either of them this year.....Bo wants to avoid controversey.
