  1. I would be very happy with an offense similar to Oregon's. I think that POB and Gebbia would thrive in an offense similar to that, and the offense could be further tailored if a guy who was more of a running threat was brought in. I think Beck's offense was more similar to Oregon's, but with Martinez, he was such a running threat that he was used more as a runner. I think that we were misunderstanding each other on some of our comments. I was never recommending going to a Crouch or Frazier type offense (although they weren't all that similar). I don't think you will see a coach that would make that drastic of a change.
  2. I think Green and Rimington both made it pretty clear that this is a 2-month deal. Rimington is still working with Boomer at the Esiason Foundation. Now, Rimington could just kill it as the Interim AD and get offered the full-time gig, but it sounds like Dave doesn't want it. Boomer is basically Dave's best friend. Dave wouldn't want to ruin that long relationship by turning his back on the Esiason Foundation. Sounded like Barfknecht
  3. It's tough to have long-term goals to accomplish in 2 months. However, he did say he would like to have influence on the hiring of the next AD, so that would impact the long-term.
  4. Press conference didn't last long. Here are the highlights. --He loves Nebraska, and will do anything he can do to help --He's here for interim only. Not interested in full time AD job. --He's not here to fire anybody, he is here to calm things down --Dave wants to improve the walk-on program and bettering relationships with former players --Would like to have a "small influence" at least on who the permanent AD is going to be --Rimington has 2 years left with the Esiason Foundation before he wants to retire from there. May be interested in coming back to NU to help out in some capacity --Green called Dave on Thursday morning approaching him with the idea of being interim AD. Worked out the details in a meeting over the weekend. --Green looked to Dave because Green wanted an outside influence/observer
  5. Rimington was brought up the afternoon Eichorst was fired, so Green and Bounds probably came up with the agreement last week, and allowed Dave to get all the ducks in a row for 2 months at his current gig. There are probably some big Esiason Foundatoin fundraisers that he will miss, but he had a few days to get things set up with his #2 guy there before flying to Nebraska yesterday and working out the final details with NU last night/this morning.
  6. I agree that recruiting at QB is the most important position for a football team. We have seen that be true, regardless of offensive style run. However, I think whatever offensive style is run by the new coach (if Riley is fired), the new coach will be able to utilize the existing roster, while then looking at what type of player they want to recruit going forward. The new coach has to recruit the type of player that is the best fit for their system. I understood why Riley was recruiting the best passers he could, even if they weren't the most mobile. That's they type of QB he likes for his system. I was encouraged when Riley was looking at recruiting dual-threat QB's for NU. The coach has to run his system. He can't worry about the system the previous coach had, or what system the next coach may have.
  7. Langsahan was supposed to be a great QB coach, after all he worked with Eli Manning at the New York Giants.
  8. Look at the big brain on Brad!!! Nice job!!!
  9. Rimington should go into Cavanaugh's office and tell him "Coach, I played for Milt Tenopir, I knew Milt Tenopir, Milt Tenopir was a friend of mine. Coach, you are no Milt Tenopir." Bonus points for understanding my reference and where that infamous quote took place.
  10. He needs to go into the training room and ask "Where are all the steroids that we took when I was here?"
  11. Listening to Severe yesterday, he described POB as "effectively mobile". He described it as a guy (like you say above) who isn't going to run all over the place, but he's able to take off and run on 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 6 and get a first down. I think a guy who can be just mobile enough would be effective in a zone read scheme or a scheme that utilizes roll outs our bootlegs to keep the defense honest. I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and now that Dak Prescott is the clear #1 QB and Romo is gone, they aren't running him nearly as much as they did last year. But, last night they had him keep the ball a couple times on a zone read option, one scored a TD. They also had him roll out of the pocket a number of times and connected on big plays. A smart college coach would be able to utilize POB and Gebbia in a similar manner.
  12. So, the next coach will need to run a pro-style offense with a pocket passer? That's limiting your available candidates. Honestly, I think you are worrying too much about "recruiting philosophy", other than QB style, most coaches are going to recruit the same types of players. It usually doesn't need to be a complete overhaul in the types of athletes you are recruiting.
  13. I am with you on this. He really likes to travel, and his current job allows him to do that. He can manage the Boomer Esiason Foundation, live in NYC, and travel the world. That would be difficult to do as AD for any college, let alone one in Lincoln, Nebraska.
  14. I understand that, but I don't know if Rimington wants the full time job. I think the 60-day time period is the important piece in today's announcement.
  15. So you are saying the "national search guy" has to have Nebraska ties? As much as I like "Nebraska guys", it shouldn't be a pre-requisite for the new AD, it would be the cherry on top.
  16. I think he will be a great "temporary face" of the Athletic Department. The best thing he can do in these two months of service is to meet with the coaches and student-athletes to get their honest opinions of the athletic department and get recommendations for improvements. The coaches and athletes should feel free to be honest with Rimington, because he won't be their "permanent boss".
  17. I like it. Gives a Green and Bounds an outside observer, while he is also an insider to the University of Nebraska. He will be able to get along well with the coaches and student-athletes.
  18. John Bishop‏ @JohnBishop71 19s19 seconds ago More Now official. Dave Rimington is Interim AD. #Huskers Has the post for 60 days, taking a leave of absence from the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
  19. Rimington named Interim AD
