  1. I don't like gin. What's your poison, then? I'm sure we can accommodate you with a rhyme.... I'm a beer man. Thanks for asking!!!
  2. Sounds like LP got the other guy, before the other guy got him. It will be tough to prove self-defense, but there is a hope.
  3. I like Ozigbo too. I think he's a different back than Ozigbo, and there could be a place for both of them. Of course, we know all this depends on Langsdorf not wanting to throw the ball at least half the time on offense, so it may be pipe dream.
  4. One of the reasons they redshirted him is because he wasn't well conditioned enough after arriving late. They may also have anticipated far less struggle from the other group of RBs. They like Newby and have really tried to make him a feature back. When Stevenson came in out of shape, got injured, and had to miss some practice time, I said "get him in shape for conference play and see if he can contribute then". Well, it's now conference season. If he's ready to play, play the guy.
  5. I don't think JS was "ready" game 1, as he was working through some injury issues and getting in better shape. However, just because a guy doesn't contribute until game 6 of the season, doesn't mean it's wasted season.
  6. You guys hit the two key points in my opinion. If he "wants" to play, and you can use him, then you play him. BUT please for the love of all that is holy, you'd better USE him then. Don't waste a season of this guy's career. Like Saunders said, if he comes in to return kicks, then what's the harm in giving him a few carries in the backfield? Maybe Ozigbo and Stevenson carry this run game to new levels. That'd be freaking fun to watch in my opinion. If that happens, then I will be giving Riley some high-praises.
  7. There is a saying that gets used during "quarterback controversies" that if you have 2 starters, you don't have one. Maybe the same goes for 6 running backs. Just a thought. Is the same true for 8 Running Backs? I just find it odd is all. We have heard nothing about him in practice, now he might be playing? What are we supposed to hear about practice? The coaches closed the practice to the media once the games started. Yes, there might be guys who can watch practice who aren't involved with the program, but then those would be just internet rumors and people would want to see a link to the source.
  8. How convenient. That happens to exactly agree with what you've been saying for quite awhile now. Frankly, it's getting really f'ing old. This is a guy who played against Nebraska in college, so he has seen NU near the top of it's powers. He's just surprised that NU got a coach who was "average" at Oregon State. I'm just trying to relay some information and an opinion of a smart, successful guy who is a former Oregon State player and alum. I wasn't against the Riley hire. I have become tired of Riley's pretty poor coaching through the first 5 games though.
  9. I listened to the podcast on Tuesday evening. It was very interesting. Sam has some very heated words towards Bo, and is also sympathetic towards Bo in a matter of a few minutes. Sam doesn't absolve Riley and his staff on a number of things. There are a lot of issues going on around Lincoln. Riley needs to be a strong leader and get it cleaned up.
  10. So a guy who may not have great physical tools to be a great football player can't have great knowledge of the game and a team itself? If that were true then only the best football players of all time would make the best coaches. This guy's main point is "he has been okay for Oregon State, but I don't think he is the type of coach that would be a good fit for Nebraska, and Nebraska should be able to bring in a better coach."
  11. I didn't say we shouldn't want to beat them. I'm just saying, don't look into it, or be surprised if NU wins. Wisconsin just isn't good this year. That's it. Because a win over wisconsin people will start to believe that this team is something it's probably not. So you are basically downplaying the win in advance, just in case. That way you can continue to complain about Riley, win or lose. Got it. Good strategy. I think what Power T is saying that "a win over Wisconsin won't tell us much in the grand scheme of things". This is not a vintage Wisconsin team. I will take the win wholeheartedly, but it won't mean much if NU continues to struggle the rest of the way. The only way it's a meaningful win is if the team/coaches build on it, improve, and continue to win games this season.
  12. I would be happy that NU has another victory. Depending on how the game was played, it might give me more confidence on the coaching staff. But, if the season goes from 6-6 to 7-5 with this win, it would still be an uninspiring season by the team and coaching staff.
  13. Let's say that happened. I would have been glad that NU won 13-7, but I still would have been thinking "What the heck was Langsdorf doing passing the ball 31 times in that wind?". The Illinois game wouldn't have given me a lot of confidence even if NU won. That is a team that Nebraska should be blowing out, and not allowing to stick around until the final gun.
  14. Well, this guy is one of the most rational guys I know. He played for Oregon State in the 1980's when they were terrible, and he's not a crazy/irrational fan. He is a basic, level-headed alumni of Oregon State, who just shared with me some of his thoughts on Riley.
  15. In the long run of the season, a win over Wisconsin probably won't mean much, if NU finishes 6-6 or 7-5. Now, if a win this week gives the team a huge boost of confidence and enables the team to finish 8-4 or 9-3, then that would be great. I'm not holding my breath for that to happen, but I can still hope.
  16. I wasn't bashing Riley until the performance on the field has warranted the bashing. This former player also said he was shocked that NU hired Riley in the first place, this was a day after the hiring happened.
  17. in the 1980's. I was going to say something about Riley, but I thought better against it, because he's got bigger things on his mind. Unsolicited by me, he said to me "Hey, I am sorry that Riley isn't doing well for Nebraska. I didn't think it was a good hire at the time, and I don't understand why a program like Nebraska would hire him in the first place. Don't get me wrong, Riley is a nice guy, but he's not a great coach." We chatted for a couple minutes in the hallway, and then he ended it with "Banker is not a good defensive coordinator. We had been trying to get ride of him for a long time." I just replied "Yeah, I don't know what Banker is trying to do out there." I just thought this was an interesting perspective. I know this isn't the first time we have heard this chatter from Oregon State fans/alums. This was a guy who played football at Oregon State, so he knows his stuff. It's almost like he felt sorry for me, in that I (as a Husker fan) have to deal with Riley now. The most telling part to me was the way he interjected "He's a nice guy". When we keep on hearing that about Riley, it tells me that they struggle to find other positives about Riley, so they always fall back on "well, he's a nice guy".
  18. I like that Riley is looking for options at RB. If Stevenson can make an impact, then great, put him on the field and USE him.
  19. I think the fact that Stevenson is fully healthy, in 100% condition, and knows the playbook well enough to contribute to the offense. Some freshmen are able to contribute right away, while some freshmen are pushed back a few weeks due to some factors.
  20. These top recruits (which Stevenson was) aren't thinking 4-5 years down the road. They are thinking "Let me play 3 years, and get into the League". Smart programs are able to manage redshirting and playing true freshmen. Running backs are guys that are more typical to play early and leave early for the NFL, considering the lifespan for a RB is so short.
  21. "Burning a redshirt" is a lot different with 7 games left in the season, rather than like 3 or 4. If Stevenson is ready to play, and he can be a difference-maker out there, put him out there and give him a chance.
  22. I don't understand this sentiment. Stevenson wanted to go to Wisconsin and the coaches wanted him, too. He was forced to look elsewhere when the school wouldn't let him in. I doubt Jordan has any ill-feelings towards the Wisconsin football team.
  23. I don't mind it. Play the talent. 7 games is enough games to have an impact on the team. Maybe he gives the running game a spark.
