  1. Now I will admit that I have been out of the loop lately... I have been awfully busy. but from what I have read Bo he put out every fire rather quickly as far as other jobs are concerned..... someone please correct me if I am wrong Miami he let dangle out there for a reason. Michigan he killed instantly. LSU never made it that far. We'll see what happens if Sherman ends up in Cleveland. I would guess that dollar bill would probably come looking since he likes to steal his coaches from Nebraska. You actually think Bo would take a job in the Big 12 AGAIN??!!! Especially one that has Texass in their division?? That might be the only place he'd consider in the B12. Pretty much unlimited money. Good facilities. Great game day atmosphere. Good recruiting ground. And in two years they'll be in the SEC. I'm more scared of it than lots of places. However. . .its not open yet and if it does I think we have a nice little something for Bo to keep him here. But I'd watch that one closely and be more afraid of it than I was of LSU. I just honestly thought Sherman was toxic after in the NFL after Denver didn't contact him, so I figured it wasn't a possibility.

  3. I'll bet ya $100 that is a lot bigger deal than you think it is. In fact, that's the main reason he's even listening to anyone else and why he's trying to use these other jobs to get what he wants. Its his leverage to stick it to Perlman. Believe me had this been handled with a private conversation and Bo being able to have a press conference on Monday that went about like it did, but making it look like he realised it was a mistake and was embarrassed it would have been a completely different feeling. Its too bad that Perlamn's ego in the B10 circles got the best of him and he didn't think things through when that media call came. This was Bo's dream job,but now his wet dream has a 400lb 95 year old woman in the middle of it.
  4. I agree about the stability part however, I don't think Bo is going to leave Nebraska. He waited too long to get this job so why would he give it up after 3 seasons? He's got unfinished business to take care of-a conference title and a national championship. After he achieves those two things he might get the itch to go elsewhere but I doubt it. People forget that he is also a husband and a dad. To up root his family once again would not make Mrs. Pelini or the kids very happy. Nebraska is a great place to raise your kids. I think they will stay put. IMHO Bottom line is Bo needs to act like a head coach. I agree no one will probably go anywhere, but he and Wats need to have a heart to heart and Bo needs to give the offense the same attention he gives the defense. This defense speciality stuff has been played enough. He was hired to be a head coach and run the whole team, not just the defense. Coach the whole team damn it! Yeah. I remember TO making a lot of the defensive calls back in his day.
  5. Lots of rumors as to why he was asked to leave. The one I've heard most and probably makes as much sense has to do with the fact that he walked a very fine line on recruiting ethics. I caught one blip on a board that was there for about 5 minutes stating an assistant coach could land NU in hot water and a high profile recruit might not be eligible but it was yanked down quick. I think it also had a booster involvement because UNL issued a reminder about recruiting again. Here was the email that was sent. NU Boosters, Alumni and Athletic Representatives Recruiting Guidelines What Defines Recruiting? Recruiting is any solicitation of a prospect or a prospect’s family member (or legal guardian) by a University of Nebraska staff member or athletic booster, for the purpose of securing the prospect’s enrollment and ultimate participation in the University of Nebraska intercollegiate athletic programs. Who is a Prospective Student-Athlete? A prospective student-athlete is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade or above, including students in prep schools and junior colleges as well as students who have officially withdrawn from a four-year institution and plan to transfer to another collegiate institution. In addition, a student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a prospective student-athlete if the institution or a booster provides the individual or the individual's relatives or friends with any financial assistance or benefits that the institution does not provide to prospective students in general. A good rule of thumb is to treat ALL STUDENTS as prospects. General Recruiting Guidelines for Boosters/Alumni/Representatives of Athletics Interests • Boosters are not allowed to contact a prospect in an attempt to recruit or encourage attendance at the University of Nebraska. o Types of prohibited contacts include, but are not limited to: On-campus or Off-campus face-to-face conversation with prospect or the prospect’s relatives Any form of written correspondence; and/or Telephone calls to a prospect, the prospect’s relatives or coaches • Boosters are not allowed to invite a prospect or the prospect’s relatives to any booster function or alumni event. • Boosters are not allowed to provide a prospect or the prospect’s relatives with free or reduced rate transportation, meals, lodging, gifts, entertainment or expenses for any type of service. • Boosters may send information (e.g., news articles, game programs, etc.) concerning a prospective student-athlete to the appropriate coaching staff. • Boosters may attend high school and community college events, provided they do not contact prospective student-athletes, their families, coaches, counselors or high school administrators in an attempt to recruit the prospect. • Boosters may continue pre-established friendships with prospects, their parents and relatives provided that the contact with these individuals is not arranged by a Nebraska coaching staff member, nor is the contact an attempt to recruit the prospect. • Boosters may attend public events (e.g., banquet, fundraising event, or dinner) at which prospects are in attendance. However, NO contact or attempt should be made to recruit the prospect, including contact with the prospect’s parents, relatives or coaches. • Boosters may not e-mail or post messages on a prospective student-athlete’s MySpace, Facebook or similar website encouraging attendance at the University of Nebraska. • Boosters may not obtain film/videotape or transcripts from a prospective student-athlete’s educational institution in an effort to evaluate the prospect’s academic eligibility or athletics ability. The guidelines above are not exhaustive. Any questions or concerns related to recruiting or any other topic should be directed to the Athletic Compliance Office at (402)472-2042. ASK BEFORE YOU ACT! I actually heard that Ekeler was leaving back in September after a certain LB broke his leg and it was out in the media before his parents were told by Bo. I heard that Ek was the leak and that Bo told him that he was to find himself employment following the season or he would be asked to leave. My source also said the same would be true of Watson, but I am starting to believe he was wrong on the Watson part. I never said anything because I knew how this board hated rumors. And that has become even more apparent in the last month (and I happen to hate rumors as well). That leak wasn't Ek. It was from a spectator that was there watching the practice as a guest. He couldn't wait to tell everyone first and be a big shot. Thats why practice was shut down to all people who weren't a player or coach. Well....everyone except a couple big check writers that weren't talking to anyone. I do remember hearing he might have been a guest of Eks that day but it was someone that all the coaches knew and had access to the program up intil that point. Ek was actually in the dog house last year for something else.
  6. Why does everyone think Bo is LSU's first choice? I just don't get it.... He's supposedly their 3rd choice behind Jimbo Fisher and Dan Mullen. I don't know if they can get Jimbo or not. That's the big "splash" and I think pipe dream. I think Dan Mullen holds out for something better. When you get to the third guy you have to get a yes or else you look like Steve Pederson. I'm not going to lose a bunch of sleep over it, but I'd rather lose zero sleep over it. MU is running that risk right now of looking like a joke. JH said no, Les is on the fence. If he says no they go to Hoke who reportedly is begging for the job right now to save some face. It was rumored today they're looking for other back up plans but everyone is turning them down.
  7. Sounds like there is a hitch in the giddy up between Miles and LSU. Damn. . .seemed like everything was going smooth and allowing us Husker fans not to have to worry about a Bo to LSU week. MU might just luck out and get their guy for what he's only making now. That would be huge for them. I guess we'll know by Wednesday. Of course I think the only way LSU lets this happen is if they already have someone ready to come. I would hope they don't pull a Miami and have it blow up in their face because if they do their 2 or 3 choice would be Bo and by then they'd have to come at him hard. If that happens I think Harvey needs to give his 2 year notice and a big fat learjet to Pelini to keep him.
  8. I think I'd also like us to dumb down the play book and make the terminology simple. I think it might be a bit much trying to run a zone read offense with west coast concepts. Some of the best offenses have a dozen plays but they run them in different formations. In the event that Wats stays we need to make the blocking schemes similar for both systems (the west coast and zone read) which I understand the techniques are very different. Some guys have one down pretty good and others the other schemes.Right now we're kind of trying to make apple butter with oranges. Ok . .we got some orange marmalade out of it but it wasn't what we were looking for. My educated guess would be that we see very few west coast schemes being taught this spring and we'll see the wide splits (that seemed to vanish as the year went on mostly because our linemen were so banged up they couldn't move fast)come back that work well in the zone reads.
  9. I think they need to bring the refs back in for practice to throw flags.
  10. Peterson would be an awesome get... But I doubt we could compete for him. I'd imagine that he'll stay at Boise until a position at at top place opens up and offers him. NU is not... at least not anymore... a top program and Peterson gets far more national exposure at BSU then he would at NU --- BSU is more often nationally televised than is NU and is a bigger national draw than is NU. He would likely leave only for a bigger draw.... but who knows, maybe he would be drawn to the challenge. Any thoughts on Tom Rathman? Can you elaborate as to what makes Boise a bigger national draw then NU? It isn't. Pull up the ratings and look at TV audiences. NU is huge which is why we rated higher than Missouri on the B10 wish list. I agree Peterson gets the advantage of the "will Boise get its shot" from ESPN but that story is going to fade a touch now as they look at TCU more and more. Boise State is the Gonzaga of football. For a few years ESPN fell all over itself to talk about them. Now they're off the radar a bit again and there is a new team. I think the reason we'd not see a Peterson come here is because his recruiting is pretty much west coast. Its tough to recruit nationally like NU has to. Surprisingly Bo actually does a pretty damn good job at it.
  11. Nope. I think people in hell have a better chance of getting ice water. I thought there was a good chance for him to go to Minnesota when they supposedly talked to him but it never seemed to panned out. I could see him easily in a conference USA kind of place. Maybe someplace like Tulsa but I'm sure he won't be considered there. Who knows. . .maybe Wats will have a shot at that job. I'm sure he'll be on the list of candidates as Bo and TO are calling everyone to get him interviews.
  12. Very interesting candidate da skers, here is another one that I have been pumping for awhile: Greg Studrawa Yeah I could see that too. I remember him being a name that was out there as someone to come with Bo when he was hired along with the running backs coach from LSU at the time. Wish he would have. That is the kind of OC that I want. One with an OL background. Ohio boy as well. Don't you dare say that Barney Cotton fits that mold as well! =) The only mold Cotton is like is toxic mold. It slowly kills you over time.
  13. Sounds like MU is meeting with Les tomorrow and plan to offer him about what he's currently making. I have a hard time believing he'll take the same money and go to a new gig that's currently in the and harder to recruit to. But crazy things can happen. Personally I'd be surprised if the meeting even happens. I think it could easily get called off as Les is getting the additional things he wants for his program. A little of that is too bad because I think Bo would have used LSU leverage to get some additional things for his program that we need to simply offer him as good faith. I think its being worked on but I don't know if the urgency is there like it would have been if Miles bolted to MU.

  15. I was told that he would not make Osborne's short list. really? people have inside sources for a job search that doesn't even exist? Was told that if the NU job were to come open, which I don't believe that it will, that Osborne would not call him. Reason being that was given to me is that Osborne was not fond of the way that he handled the Buffalo situation for some reason or another. Osborne called him a few years ago - Turner was one of the finalists for the job along with Pelini. That was after his second year at Buffalo. I know that Osborne called him back then. The list went basically like this: 1a. Bo Pelini 1b. Turner Gill All I am saying is that I have heard that Turner Gill would not make TO's shortlist, which IMO is a good thing. Like I said, I don't think we will be looking for a head coach anytime in the near future, but if we were I am glad that it would not be Turner Gill. Rumor was it had to do with the Jimmy Williams and Turner thing at Buffalo. But I wouldn't be 100% sure about that. Its a bunch of BS. I think it comes more from Turner saying it would be too soon to leave KU and what he has set out to do there. But either way I think Turner is a bad choice.
  16. Not sure how I'd like the people on the list but I think it could realistically look like this Chris Ault - HC Nevada Tony Samuel - HC North West Missiouri State/Nation Coach of the Year for his division Mark Helfrich -Oregon Ducks OC
  17. I'd like to keep a eye on this guy. Heard his name pop up the other day and it kind of took me by surprise. http://www.uwwsports.com/coaches.aspx?rc=86

  19. There are only two more people being encouraged to look elsewhere for employment. Gilmore might follow Wats if he got a head coaching job somewhere but that's not looking likely. I could see Wats taking his NFL offer and the other person being "reassigned" or an announcement they are going to do something outside of football. I wouldn't expect too much till after signing day unless they do land a gig somewhere.
  20. I know someone pretty connected with Michigan football. He says Miles isn't in the mix. He's also pretty pissed RR is gone at the moment. It was supposed to be a JH deal or keep RR for another year and see what happens. The AD pulled a Steve Peterson and fired the coach without knowing if he could get his guy. Hoke is like plan C.
  21. Heard still hasn't been cleared yet or at least that was the case earlier this week. The only thing that's been said is that he thought he had the score needed to enroll and be eligible. I don't think UNL has him OKed yet. I could be off on this but that was my impression. I think we are looking for a Juco RB.
  22. Besides. . .Bo remembers what its like to lose a job when you're not doing a piss poor job. Sure the guy could be better but its not like he's the Cosgrove of offense and killing every program he goes to. My knock on Wats is that it always takes too long to identify what his teams strengths are and how they're going to win. At CU he always sputtered in the early season against people they should beat and then about game 5 figured out what they could do well and plan the rest of the year around that. That's part of the reason they were usually pretty tough against NU and the big dogs at the end of the season. But it just took too long to get there in my opinion and most of your season was for nothing because had already lost your games early. He just wasn't quick to adjust and identify things. And Hell ... he even admitted it took 2 years of planning to beat us in their "life time achievement game" at CU when they kept us out of the B12 Championship game. NU fans aren't willing to do that because we want a coach who can see things now, this week and during the game. Just like our defensive coaches.
  23. Poor choice of words on my part saying nobody wants it that way. What I should have said is that no one wants it to drag out till may if its going to happen. Bo likes Wats and thinks he's a good coach and has respect for his offensive mind. He's fine with having him on staff as long as he works towards the new offense. Wats just isn't a fan of the new offense and doesn't really care to run it as his first choice of offense. It would be like having a good manager at a business you just bought. He's experienced and pretty well thought of. A good dependable sort that really isn't ever going to do you any damage and will probably have you breaking even or slowly increasing profits most every year. He just doesn't know if he likes 100% of the direction the company is now going because its different that what he was trained to do. He'll do whats asked but doesn't believe it's right for him 100% because his expertise was moving the company the direction it had been going before. He knows he can be good at it but he'll never be as good as he could have been under the old business plan. He's so loyal to the company he doesn't want to do it damage because he's not sure his talents are what the company needs to go the direction it wants. He knows if he stays he's going to have to give it 100% and he's probably not going to hurt the company but he's certainly going to hold it back some. He's at a cross roads. Thats Wats. That's life. It happens all the time.
  24. From what information I can gather he hasn't been given a deadline and won't be. If Wats leaves its by his choice. It was even thought it might be after spring ball but I think everyone wants it sooner than later so Spring Ball wouldn't be wasted if they went a whole new direction with coaches. Thats why beck worked with the QB's. He was a back up plan in case things take a while. If Wats is still here in May he will be for another year. But I don't think anyone wants it that way. Some people have suggested co-oc's next year but I haven't heard that from anyone close to the program. Its just been people guessing.
