  1. I'm surprised Marcel Jones DID get an invite, but good for him....
  2. Good news for them! I think they all have something to gain from the NFL Combine, especially Lavonte David.... David could considerably enhance his draft stock with a good performance, and I fully expect him too do that.... Congratulations, Huskers!!
  3. I bet if they had any other name besides Cotton, they would definitely be in a more positive light. I agree, the Cotton scholarship offers were not popular from the beginning, but it does seem that they have worked out fine.... Jake seems to be a rising star on the OLine, and Ben Cotton is our best TE right now.... I thought it was noticable when he missed the last couple games. Ben is a great blocker, and makes a lot of timely catches for us.... I have no problem with the youngest Cotton getting an offer, it seems like I read on here that the youngest is the best athlete of them all. Anyone else remember that?
  4. I think it could be argued that Coach Devaney had as a great of an impact on the state of Nebraska as anyone. He created something that we could all relate too, and something that we all take great pride in.... I think I speak for all of us when I say that one of the things I live for are them Fall Saturdays in Nebraska. The joy that Nebraska football has brought us all in the past, well we can thank Coach Devaney for it.... And for the heartache?.... Thank Bill Callahan! Rest in Peace Coach Devaney....
  5. Things have seemed quiet with Mr. Cross lately.... With a final three of ECU, Virgina, and Nebraska I thought we would see a commitment soon........
  6. LINK So from the things that I was reading last night, it sounded like we should be getting a commitment from this kid in the next few days. This article is less than flattering. So can someone translate? Does Jon Nyatawa just like to attract all of the glass-half-empty guys to read and comment on his articles? Yes. He's an uninformed douche. So you dont think he is N...
  7. Almost. It's not fine and the receivers have to try and do better. At the same time, if they don't have that level of trust every time the ball is thrown, to know how it's coming in and where it'll be - if they don't have the rapport that is essential in the QB/WR connection - then you would expect more drops, communication errors, etc. There's enough to put on both parties, but let's not pretend Taylor is a consistent QB who throws an accurate ball, only to be let down by receivers at an elevated rate that is completely the fault of the WRs. It goes both ways. Besides, I think you'd agree, we have some outrageously talented young WRs. I'd gladly trade all that "outrageous talent" for a Swift, Peterson or Davison any day of the week. Give me a wr who... 1. can remember his routes 2. catches the ball ...anything else is pure gravy. Lastly, if we're going to shoot for the stars a wr who can and will actually block someone would be great also. Enunwa, and Kinnie are EXCELLENT downfield blockers.... I don't think they come much better then Enunwa. How many long games were busted with the help of an Enunwa block.... For his size, I even think Bell does a nice job.... Sure, I agree. That's why they're on the field. Now, if they could just catch the ball.... Aside from blocking Kinnie is awful....just awful.... quit tweeting, and catch a f'n pass!
  8. I think I'd disagree with that, actually. I haven't really seen anything to make me think our WRs are "outrageously talented"... It seems almost like you're holding the WRs to a lower standard than the QB. In my opinion, outrageously talented would be Alshon Jeffery, Justin Blackmon, etc. We've had some fairly talented guys here over the past 10 years, such as Niles Paul and Maurice Purify. Neither of those guys have even shown that they could succeed in the NFL, and none of our WRs are close to being at their level yet. I found that guy so overrated, I will never understand Huskernation's fascination with him.... Give me Swift, or Peterson over him anyday.... I agree with zoogie to a point, I think that Bell, and Enunwa have very nice futures, and Bell looks like he could be on pace to be the best WR we've had in a long, long time.... I am excited to see Tariq Allen play, there is a lot of hype there, but he sure looks the part....

  10. I won't argue much about the WR coach, I don't know too much about him and his qualifications seem slim. But our WRs are as promising as we have had in a long, long, *long* time. They are young and working at getting better. It's a bit tough on them though, when we don't throw much and have such an inconsistent QB. This isn't mentioned enough about the drops, but a big part of the equation is the trust and rapport that must exist between QB and WR. When it's not there, even talented players (at either position) will struggle. These receivers don't know what to expect from Taylor because let's face it, his throws are real inconsistent. Sometimes it'll be on the mark, sometimes it'll be really off. Jamal talked briefly about receivers not knowing what kind of ball to expect the week after the Minnesota game. We ride the WRs hard for the drops, but forget all the times they bailed their QB out by making a big-time adjustment and getting to the ball. There are a lot of times that the WRs have bailed out Martinez, but a lack of throws their way is no excuse for dropping the ball.... They get plenty of balls thrown their way in practice.... I thought the drops were an isolated situation for the most part, *cough* Brandon Kinnie *cough*
  11. Running in a straight line isn't an offense, so you can't expect beck to "roll" with that alone.... I agree with your assessment/description of Martinez's play, he is a QB who is lacking quite a bit in many areas.... If Martinez does not show significant improvement by the middle of next year, you would have to think that the staff would look at a different option right? I am hoping that Taylor can make the necessary improvements, but if he doesn't then he has to sit.... and this is coming from a guy who has been in full support of the Martinez project.... I would agree that Martinez needs to make strides or else be replaced. He's a 3 year starter and things need to really start coming together for him and if not Carnes deserves a shot. Also we need a wrs coach who can coach our receivers to actually catch the ball. I thought Fisher did a nice job this year, and there was definite improvement.... How do you coach a WR to catch the ball? I get teaching them technique, but to actually coach them to "catch" it would be difficult....In my opinion that is all on the receiver if the ball is catchable.... I haven't seen one other teams wrs drop as many catches as we have. I mean it's like 50/50 that they even catch it even when it hits them in the numbers. either recruit better wrs or find a better way to teach them to catch it. 50/50 is stretching it a bit, but I get your point.... I don't think it is the coaching, what about the drops shows lack of technique? Nothing, that I have seen, so therefore it falls on the wide receivers for the drops.... Players make plays....

I think at least he could concentrate on perfecting their read option game instead of trying to run him down the line in a traditional option so much. That's most of what I was getting at. Oregon stresses defenses with their spacing and speed. Nebraska has some personnel that could do the same type of thing. I agree that the read option was underutlized this year, but Martinez did get better that the traditional option....It makes no sense, because Martinez is one of the best I've seen at hiding the football in the RB's belly until the last second.... Hopefully we will incorporate it more into the offense next year....

  14. Florida went 7-6 this year, does "GatorNation" exist anymore.... Florida fans = FairWeather Fans....
  15. This comment is ruhhhhtarded Agree. We have to compete for the best kids and win some of these battles. I am more concerned that teams like OU, Texas, Florida, Miami, Cal, Auburn, Tenneseee, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M are having strong recruiting classes way ahead of us right now. Except for OU, none of the others even finished in the top 25 and I can argue OU had a very disappointing season as pre-season #1 and not even make a BCS game. We need to bring in kids like Fuller and other top recruits as I expect us to get in the top 25 in recruiting. And what do all of those schools have in common??? They are smack in the middle or near huge recruiting grounds. States that have so much talent that smaller schools get left overs that are ranked very high. Location also favors all those schools against NU to. Tenn is in the SEC, best conference. ND is right near Chicago. Cal has the hundreds of prospects from the state, is in a warm climate, and probably has a slight edge over NU in most academics. The other thing one could argue about MOST of those schools, is that they have all been more "mainstream" in college football than NU in the time that high school seniors can remember or since they have been following football. Yes, location obviously plays a part but Tuscaloosa, AL and Norman, OK aren't exactly Los Angeles and Miami. Those teams near large cities will obviously have that built in advantage. Oregon is unique because of the Nike connection but there are plenty of smaller regional towns that are having success. I don't think we should be losing recruiting battles to Tennessee and Auburn because well they are in the SEC. Our fanbase completely trumps a lot of these other teams. We need to use a different angle to land these kids. Going to Cal? They don't even fill their stadium and have never won a thing. Nebraska has the following like the Packers do in the NFL. Why do these kids want to go play for the Jaguars (equivalent to a Cal, Arizona State, Rutgers, and SEC-lites). WE (the fans) are one of Nebraska's best recruiting tools.... the following is greater then most NFL teams....
  16. our offense? explosive??.......i am still waiting for that. Hoping for an explosive offense, because all the tools are there. With the multiple sets, players like Abdullah, Martinez, Turner, there is plenty of explosive elements there. A steady force like Burkhead, as versatile as he is will not hurt. I may be drinking too much koolaid as I mentioned, but there are glimpses of explosiveness that back it up. i guess it really depends how many touches Abdullah and Turner get........ The elements of an explosive offense are there, but it would be a big mistake for Beck to get to caught up in all that, and get away from Burkhead, that guy needs touches.... It sounds ridiculous but you see OC's at every level go away from what works at times....
  17. Only in Nebraska will something like him not mentioning UNL would it make news (on a message board).... I don't blame the guy for wanting to give a shoutout to all of his schools, I think that we are all atleast somewhat proud of our high schools, etc.... It wasn't a big deal, but I would be lying if I said I didn't notice it last week....
  18. I knew his passing stats were better. But I had no idea he had stats like that. Pretty remarkable, considering it was against B1G defenses. Especially considering our WRs aren't exactly the greatest at going after the ball. And actually catching it. That is an impressive stat, but it's not like they have asked him to stretch the field with his passing.... The throws they are asking him to make are not all that challenging for a D-1 QB....

  20. What in the world are you talking about? Let's revisit a first-half interception Taylor made in the Ohio State game. Damn straight. That was simply bad coaching decisions. Nothing else. Tim Beck only called the play. He did not force Taylor to be cavalier with ball security and force him to make a throw that was at high risk to get picked off, deep in our own territory. Here is a question. I don't think Tim Beck called a lot of rollout passes this year for Taylor. Very few, I remember some earlier in the year, but we went away from that big time in the end. Now, you tell me: does Tim beck know that Taylor is not very good rolling out and throwing on the run, or is he too daft to realize that Taylor would kill defenses doing that? It could be beneficial to role Taylor out of the pocket some, but Taylor will never kill a defense with his arm.... I am a Martinez supporter, but the kid isn't going to be anything more then an mediocre passer.... I am not sure that I trust Taylor's decision making when roling out of the pocket either, with defenses sliding across the field, moving with him, I am not sure that he would consistently make the right decision and be able to correctly read the defense....
  21. His throwing motion is nothing like Martinez's.... When Martinez is at his release point his chest/thigh pads/everything is facing his target.... I like Taylor, but his throwing mechanics are as bad as I've ever seen... The worst thing I saw Armstrong do is throw off his back foot a couple times when he was about to get hit, and his pocket presence is already better then Taylor.... I would also argue that Beck helped Taylor make a decent amount of improvent this year.... Beck is gonna be a good OC....
  22. I have seen Dorial Green-Beckham play, and he is an amazing talent.... However, he has a rude awakening when he gets to the next level of football because his current competition is laughable (slow white kids)....
