Eureka linebacker Rey Maualuga is No. 3 in the country, according to rivals.com. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound senior led the Loggers to the NCS Redwood Empire 3A championship last season and has graded off the charts (4.72 in the 40, 33- inch vertical jump, 37 bench-press repetitions at 185 pounds). Maualuga is scheduled to visit Nebraska next week and Oklahoma two weeks after that. His nearest Bay Area regular-season appearance is at Napa on Oct. 9. "He's probably one of the two best players I've ever coached against," said eighth-year Casa Grande coach Rick O'Brien, whose team lost 20-12 to Eureka in the NCS title game last season. "He's just so big and strong and fast, plus he has a great understanding of the game. We had a lot of schemes to block him and a few times we did. Thats another main reason why I don't think we can run the west coast offense effectively. To run the West Coast you have to get the great west coast high school players over here. I gurantee you 8 out of 10 cali kids don't want to come play and stay in this weather. Why do you think Bill is trying to get all the recruits in here he can now??? Because it's somewhat nice here. Coaches use this offense all over the country (Minnesota, California, Wisconsin). Good players can come from anywhere. Quote Link to comment

Sure you can get them from all over the country however, there aren't many high school players from nebraska,iowa,kansas,colorado,michigan, etc that run a west coast offense. The main ones are california, florida, texas, washington, etc. IT's not easy to get those kids to come here especially when it gets cold. Quote Link to comment

Why do you think that Oklahoma got Adrian Peterson. Most kids want to win and they want to be the reason that the team wins. Nebraska might have a better chance at getting some of these kids because they want to come to a team that has tradition and they want to come in and play early and have a chance at a national championship. On a bad note Rey considered his Husker visit perfect that including the tradition, stadium and football. Nu's one downfall.......no social life. or "not much to do there."
