Not all players warm up

A kearney news station tonight said they talk to a parent of a player and they were very upset because not every player gets to warm up before the game, just the good ones. If your not on the depth chart you don't go out there until the tunnel walk. This seems very odd. I heard davision say the players on the sidelines are not into at all, well no wonder. The players just sit in a room until the game. I guess alot are very upset about this.

I really don't have a problem with this. The players that know that they are going to play need to get loose and need to go through as many drills and get as many reps as possible before a game. I really don't see the need for the fifth string quarterback to be throwing balls to the sixth team recievers on part of the field that could be used for the actual players that are going to play in the game. Remember, we only get half of the field before the game to warmup, and with all of the positions (O-line, D-line, Linebackers, secondary, quarterbacks & recievers, running backs, tight ends, and specialists). That is not a lot of room and we need the starters and top reserves to be using the area that we have to their full advantage, not wasting it on people that not going to play.

I dunno, I guess alot of parents and players are down because of this. It's as if they aren't a part of the team. They work their ass off on scout team to make the team better and they don't get to be out there and experience it all. It sounds like if you aren't on the 2 or 3 deep then you aren't out there.

I see their point on not feeling like part of the team, but maybe they could use it as incentives to work harder and move up the depth chart.

Sounds to me like it is working the opposite way. He is going to ask about it in callahans press conference, so I will be interested to see what he says.

It probally isn't going to work the same way for every player. I just hope that this doesn't become too big of an ordeal because we need everyone to stay focused on the K-State game this weekend. Not on something as foolish on who Callahan lets warm up before the game.

I wouldn't call it to foolish. You piss enough players off and enough parents off and things aren't good. Like I say, I don't know about this because I didn't hear it and I haven't seen a home game but we will find out more tomorrow.

The players that we are pissing off are not the one that I would be worried about. If they are that pissed off that they don't get to warm up before the game that they probally are not going to play in, then they are probally not going to contribute anything to our team in practice so let them leave or sit out or whatever they are threatening to do.

If I were one of these players I might be a little upset that I can't go out there to warm up on game day, but at the same time I would understand that there is no use. Like gamecocks said. I am sure the parents are pissed off, because well, many times parents and sports don't get along together.

I heard Davidson say that the players weren't really into it on the sidelines too. At the same time I don't ever remember someone saying that the players were really into it, ever.

I don't think warming up is the problem. Who knows what the problem is or if there even is a problem.

I think the same thing goes for in practice, they just stand their and don't do much. To them it seems like a waste of time. Having bad team chemistry and kids upset isn't a good thing.

These players need to realize that it is an honor to play for the Huskers. They have no rights to come in here and just think that they are going to play right away. They need to earn their reps and need to earn their spots on the depth chart. Complaining at the midway point of the season is not going to help them or the team. If they were true team players then they would suck it up and work harder every opportunity that they have to impress the coaches. Parents also need to realize that this is not elementary ball any more, not every is going to get an equal shake. That is life, deal with it.

Thats bull crap, I'm sorry. If this story is true which im pretty sure it is, it is plain hogwash. People wonder why raider players hated, we are seeing why.

You think? Do you know? What would be the point in having a scout team if they don't do anything? Callahan is one for trimming fat, evident in the cutting down of the walk on program, so I don't think he would have a whole squad of kids put the pads on every day just to sit there.

It comes down to roles for me. You have to know your role on the team. If you don't like your role, work to change it or don't be a part of the team. I have been on teams in various sports over the years and have had at least a couple different roles. At least one of which was more of a support role. Did I complain that I didn't get to get out on the field every game? No because I understood my role. Would I have taken the opportunity to get out on the field? HELL YES.

This is college football, not a little league where one of the rules is that everyone plays and feels warm and fuzzy inside.

This is not a good way to unify a team. One of the things that set NU apart in the past was good team unity(most years) and the respect for the walkon.

Bottom line is, it's a WARM-UP. The players who will be playing (or have a good chance of playing) in the game, should be warming up.. There is absolutely no reason for any other players to warm up, except for their parents to say "Oooh there's my boy out there", pointless. Let them work heard and earn their position in the depth chart.. then the parents have someting to "Ooooh, and Aaah" about.

As for players not being in to it on the sidelines, I've never really paid attention to how the players were behaving on the sidelines. They probably are just not going to be that excited until we see the WCO paying off, but if it's a result of them not being able to warm up, or not getting enough attention at practice.. they need to grow up and work harder and prove themselves.

Anyway, all just my humble opinions.
