A scare in South Bend caused the cancellation of the Irish's afternoon practice on Tuesday, forcing Weiss's squad to remain indoors and an emergency response from the South Bend Fire Department HAZMAT squad.

 

On Tuesday afternoon prior to the start of Tuesday's practice, Charlie Weiss and his assistant coaches noticed a white powder at each end of the stadium field, and feared it was a terrorist threat. Keeping the players inside while the HAZMAT team was called and tests on the unknown white powder was conducted. Tests concluded that the white powder was a limestone based Field Chalk that had been used for years to mark the goal lines at each endzone.

 

Tuesdays practice was still cancelled
