Would we still get a trophy, if KU beats MU?

That "trophy" in '06 was manufactured by Pedersen and Callahan so the players felt like they accomplished something. They don't give out trophies for division championships.

Eric the Red's daughter "manufactured" our trophy this year. She must not have seen Alex Henery's heroic effort coming.

NU Notes: Gator bid might come before Dec. 7

LINCOLN - Nebraska has never played in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day in Jacksonville, Fla.

"We'd like to rectify that," Gator Bowl President Rick Catlett said Friday.

Catlett feels strongly enough about getting NU that he wasn't ruling out a possible agreement before bowl bids are formally announced Dec. 7.

"Rick Baker at the Cotton Bowl and Bruce Binkowski at the Holiday Bowl and I are good friends, and we formed this relationship that we have with the Big 12 and we talk a lot," Catlett said. "If it appears that it's going to break out and we can get to a decision between the three of us of who we wanted, then we could go ahead and move."

As it stands, Catlett sees the trifecta of Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech filling two BCS spots and the Cotton Bowl - assuming the South Division representative beats Missouri in the Big 12 title game Dec. 6. As Catlett understands it, the Holiday likely takes Oklahoma State.

Nebraska wasn't prominent on the Gator radar when it was 3-3, but Catlett said the bowl would put a lot of stock in the Huskers winning five of their last six. Catlett said one positive to an early announcement would be allowing fans more time to make plans.

"Obviously we like teams that win at the end of the year," he said. "(Nebraska) started winning, and when they started winning you started sliding them up the pecking order and got them to the top."

Catlett said the Gator Bowl would like a Nebraska-Florida State matchup but will know more after the FSU-Florida and Georgia Tech-Georgia games today.

Former Nebraska graduate assistant Steve Foster was representing the Alamo Bowl on Friday. Foster said the Huskers "got enhanced, from our perspective" with the win, and would be strongly considered if available.
