A disturbance at a Papillion bowling alley Sunday led to the arrest Wednesday of two former Nebraska football players and their brother, who had planned to walk on for the Huskers last fall.

Papillion Police Lt. Chris Whitted said DeAntae Grixby, 29, Cortney Grixby, 22, and Ronnell Grixby, 19, all turned themselves in Wednesday.

All three were arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats at Papio Bowl on Sunday afternoon. Whitted said the brothers went there when they learned the mother of DeAntae Grixby’s child was at the bowling alley.

Officers were called to the bowling alley after an alleged disturbance between the brothers and two women that involved shouting, pushing and knocking a cell phone out of one of the alleged victim’s hands while she attempted to call the police. By the time police arrived, Whitted said, the Grixby brothers were gone.

But independent witnesses, along with statements from the victims, led police to believe that the three brothers from Omaha were responsible.

Along with allegedly making terroristic threats, DeAntae Grixby was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault. Cortney Grixby was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and interfering with a public service — the emergency phone call. Ronnell Grixby was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and criminal mischief.

All three were jailed on $5,000 percentage bonds, and all three had bailed out by Wednesday night, Whitted said.

A woman involved in the altercation filed a protection order against DeAntae Grixby in Sarpy County District Court on Tuesday.

DeAntae Grixby was a running back at Nebraska from 2000 to 2003, later getting into coaching at Minnesota State-Mankato as an assistant for Jeff Jamrog, now Nebraska’s assistant athletic director for football.

Cortney Grixby lettered as a cornerback/return man at NU from 2004 to 2007. Despite his small size — 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds — Grixby won the respect of teammates and fans, earning the Tom Novak Award after his senior year. That award is given to the senior who best exemplifies courage and determination.

Ronnell Grixby was a standout football and basketball player at Omaha Central and planned to walk on at Nebraska for the 2008 season. But he sat out the year because of a high heart rate discovered during summer workouts.
