NU recruiting class could gain 1 or 2 yet

Lincoln Journal Star

The Nebraska football team has 20 commitments heading into the stretch run of the recruiting season.

That number could possibly grow by one or two before national signing day Wednesday.

The Huskers are thought to be very much in the running for linebacker Eric Martin, who's from Moreno Valley, Calif. He is believed to be high on Nebraska but is visiting Arizona State this weekend before making a decision.

Martin, who visited Nebraska last weekend, is rated 26th by Rivals.com among inside linebackers in this recruiting class.

Wide receiver L'Damian Washington (Shreveport, La.) is also worth watching. Though he's committed to Louisiana Tech, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound Washington visited Lincoln last week and is checking out Missouri this weekend.

Though he plays for a high school program that often falls under the radar, he had 53 catches for 1,064 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior season.

The Huskers currently have just one receiver in this class — Brandon Kinnie of Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.

No longer on Nebraska's commitment list is Shawn Bodtmann, a linebacker from Scranton, Pa. He committed to NU in April but he and the Huskers are now moving in different directions.

Bodtmann has offers from Western Carolina, coached by former Husker assistant Dennis Wagner, and Maine, where he's scheduled to visit this weekend.

Because of NCAA rules, Husker coach Bo Pelini can't make any specific comments regarding a prospect until he's signed a letter of intent.

Nebraska will hold its signing day press conference Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
