The Nebraska football program recently had 61 football players named to the 2008 Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes those student-athletes who earned a 3.0 grade-point average or better during the fall semester.

The impressive total by Coach Bo Pelini’s football team was part of 324 Nebraska student-athletes who were named to the honor roll during the fall semester.

Leading the way among the football honorees were eight players who had a perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the fall semester. Those student-athletes included Austin Cassidy (undeclared), Sean Fisher (undeclared), Aaron Gillaspie (management), Dan Glassman (biological sciences), Victory Haines (mathematics), Sam Meginnis (undeclared), Todd Peterson (nutrition, exercise and health science) and Patrick Witt (finance).

The list of football honorees includes several players who have made multiple appearances on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll throughout their careers. Thirteen players were named to the squad for at least the fourth time in their careers. Heading that list are nine-time honorees Peterson, Dan Titchener (accounting) and Tyler Wortman (mechanical engineering). Peterson and Wortman were both second-team Academic All-Americans last fall, while Titchener was an academic all-district selection.

Eight-time members of the Commissioner’s Honor Roll include 2007 senior linebacker Lance Brandenburgh (business administration) and Andy Christensen (construction management). Junior receiver Wes Cammack (agricultural engineering) was honored for the seventh time, Zach Potter (communication studies) earned his sixth honor roll selection, while Justin Makovicka (nutrition science), Matt O’Hanlon (history) and Nate Swift (construction management) are five-time honorees. Witt, Clayton Sievers (communication studies), and Ty Steinkuhler (criminal justice) picked up honors for the fourth time, while another 15 Huskers were honored for a third time.

Nebraska’s freshman class also fared well during its first semester on campus as 22 true freshmen were included on the Big 12 Honor Roll.

Congratulations to the players that made the Honor Roll, and for remembering why they are at the University in the first place. Football will only last you for so long, a degree will last you forever. Good job, guys!! :clap
