Huskers Sign Westside's Williams

Recommended Posts

Lincoln – University of Nebraska baseball coach Mike Anderson announced Thursday that Chris Williams (Omaha, Neb./Westside HS) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play baseball at the University of Nebraska next season.

“Chris is someone who we’ve followed closely for the last three years, and we are thrilled to have him in our program,” Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson said. “We are going to start him as a pitcher, but also give him the opportunity to hit as well. He is a very competitive kid and that shows on the diamond. He comes from one of the best high school programs in the state and that will help him make the transition to the college game.”

Williams, a 6-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher/utility player, has led Omaha Westside to a 24-2 record and No. 1 ranking in the state this season. On the year, he is 6-0 with 0.66 ERA, as he paces Class A in both wins and ERA. In addition to his pitching prowess, he is also hitting .479-2-29 for Head Coach Bob Greco’s Warriors this spring.

The Nebraska baseball team returns to action Friday, as the Huskers begin a three-game series with the Missouri Tigers. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. at Hawks Field.

Hard throwing kid.. haven't seen him pitch in person but i've heard he throws hard with a filthy slider and good control... may see time next year.. will be interesting...

He took his first loss of the season yesterday vs Creighton Prep. "It wasn't our day," Westside coach Bob Greco said. "I didn't think Chris threw particularly well for us in the first four innings, but we made other mistakes out there, too."

But he's a solid arm and with what's on the staff right now, he'll have a chance to compete for innings next year, like all incoming pitchers.
